[Q] No touch response. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! First, sorry for my english, im from Argentina.
I have a huge problem here. I have installed CM 10.1 and works perfects, but, I was not using the Nexus 7 for several days.
Today I unlock the tablet and now, I have no answer for the touch response.
I can do anything, unlock, volume up, down, go to recovery, but still no response of the touch panel.
I can't check the USB Debugging because I can't get it! so I can't use the Wug Nexus root Toolkit.
What can I do?
Thanks.
and again, Im sorry. ^_^

Sounds like a loose flex cable...

Yes, it's very easy.
Here's a step by step on how to open it up. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+Teardown/9623/1
And here are the display cables you should check. Steps 6-9 here http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+Nexus+7+Display+Assembly/9945/1
You could also get an OTG cable and then plug in a USB mouse to navigate the system.

I had open it and reconnect all the wires, but... Still not working.
The USB Mouse works fine, but I can't do nothing. I had Wipe and nothing again.
The custom touch recovery works fine, but the touch's still not working so... I can't navigate between the Recovery.
Can I do something? Inside I don't see any problem .
Thanks anyways...
and again, sry for my english.

The digitizer sounds like a bad egg... Replacing the whole screen/digitizer assembly will be the easiest way to fix.

Here in Argentina we don't have a ASUS repair or something else like that :'(
Rly thanks for the reply.

Amazon, ebay, etradesupply. On amazon and ebay, make sure you search for OEM parts. You can and will end up with a counterfeit part if you are not careful.

It sounds like software problem to me.
I've an extreme idea which I think you should do. We could try to look for the source of the problem, that would be time consuming and not worth it, IMHO. Here's what you want to do. To do or not to do is entirely up to you. Reflash the stock rom. Do not wipe data or cache. All your apps and data should still be in tact. That should fix any problem with hardware recognition.
Checked theres no detritus in the connector? Could be something, dust or whatever that's causing this issue.

Android is different than windows. Android is decided up into 12 partitions. The data partition is different than the os.
I had the exact same problem. Here is what i did to fix it:
Code:
Disconnected keyboard (not sure if it was necessary)
Held the power button in (1-2 seconds) to shut it down
Started the tablet up again.
Re-attached the keyboard
Thanked my stars I didn't do anything more drastic
Hope this helps

Help! Nexus 7 won't turn on

I sent my nexus 7 in to Asus because it wouldnt turn on and they said the mother board had water damage. Tried to charge me $150 so i declined and they sent me back my tablet. I brought a new mother board and installed it myself. It was real easy but the tablet just charges but won't come on still. Wondering if anyone else experienced this and if anyone can help me with this. Thanks for any help in advance

@Elsworth
Ummm ... I'm pretty sure you need a booted OS running on the tablet for any adb command to function. As for fastboot, it needs the bootloader to be running in a specific mode before it will do anything.
@OP
If you have the tablet plugged in to a PC when you try turning it on, do you hear any noise indicating device detection by the PC? If so, does any device show up in the device manager? BTW, where were you able to purchase a mobo from?

Interesting. If it were used, it should have factory software on it somehow. If it were brand-spanking-new, though, it might be completely unprogrammed - only capable of doing APX mode, which to date nobody but Asus knows how to use.
I'm interested to hear what you find out trying to start it up attached to a PC. APX mode only would not be good news.

Reflashing Stock Images on Dead Phone

OK guys, woke up the other day to find the Nexus 4 with a solid (not flashing) red light and couldn't get it to boot or fastboot or anything, whether plugged into PC or not. Phoned google (they didn't ask about root or bootloader or anything) and they have sent a replacement. I will be sending my broken one back to them soon, but is there any chance I'll be able to relock it first? Does anyone have experience of this kind of situation before?

Don`t think they will be able to see or take the trouble to check if the phone`s unlocked. No, you cannot flash a image to a dead phone, if you could do that it wouldn`t be bricked

Well I hope you're right - would be frustrating to be punished for what is clearly a hardware issue!
And of course you can't flash a dead phone, I was wondering if there was some magical key combination that might reach fastboot that I haven't already tried or something like that :laugh:long shot I know...

Absolutely nothing, although I'd not heard that one before so thanks - with any luck it will just be checked for powering up and then wiped at Google once they can't get it on. I'm sure people must have sent phones to them in this condition before?
Usually by opening the phone and disconnecting the battery you can fix your red light issue, google it, it's pretty common.
yes but that also voids the warranty.

Follow iFixit guide or one similar. You won't void your warranty by taking off the back cover and unscrewing the screws that holding the battery connector.
Then remove and replace battery connector and undo all previous steps.

No, no response at all from it whatever I do - might leave it a couple of days to see if the battery fully discharges, seen that in a couple of places as potentially helping. Wouldn't be too keen on taking it apart, seems like tempting fate regarding the warranty to be honest.
No just RMA it

Hard bricked Nexus 7 Screen not working,

Device : Nexus 7
Running : Android 4.1.2 Rooted
Problem : I was trying to unroot it and flash a 4.2.2 ROM to the device and i ended up bricking it somehow. I looked around a lot on here and youtube. I found one solution i had not tried which was to get into recovery mod. But the device was stuck on the boot loaded. So i hard shut it down, and pressed the key combination to load the boot loader. And, the screen wasn't loading. I heard the little chimes my computer makes when ever a USB device is active, so i heard the thing load into the boot loader. But its not showing on the screen!
Please help i really shouldn't have done this. But i am literally about to cry.
I tried using Wugfresh's Nexus toolkit to flash the ROM, and it would stop on sending system.
I dont know if i did something wrong, if the kernel was messed up, if the kit wasnt right, please as the video said there is 4 million members here. someone has to know what to do...
-Sean
That is not the bootloader. You need to have your device disconnected from your pc. Then go to your bootloader.

Nope. Not working. And its not the battery. its plugged into the wall.
Just a noob guess, Is it possible the device isnt even using the display? Like its so messed up that its per say not even realizing it has a screen?
Try volume down and power. It is possible that the screens flex cable came loose. Pop the back off and check. You should be getting some visual queue. If all else fails hold the power button for awhile. Like around 15 to 20 seconds. I have had to do that a few times. That should fix it.

Have you dropped the device at all or sat on it? If you are getting no visual queues, either you have a loos flex cable, or the lcd is cracked or just non functional all together. The best way to check that is to shine a flashlight at an angle into your screen. Look for any odd lines that have a slight or significant curve to them.

Assuming i found the right cable which was under a copper shielding that was running up from the metal frame under the battery. It was yellow.
It was tucked all the way in.
I didnt see any cracks or lines. I did sit on my pillow was under it.
That could possibly break the device. I just recently broke mine the other day in similar circumstances. The cable is right by the battery on the right. Should be almost centered by the batt.

Oh. But it was working the other day. Does it just do that?
and Yes i got the right cable. So what can i do now? It was rooted so i cant send it back, Is there anything i could do?
You technically could send it back... They can't confirm it is rooted unless you unlock the bootloader and the little lock thing shows up on the splash screen. And since your screen doesn't work, they can't see it unless they test the device after replacing the screen assuming they don't replace the whole unit. But I don't know their procedures. Most companies just replace the whole thing. The screen shouldn't just go out. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it shouldn't.

Well good luck. Never thought one could fully brick a Nexus 7. From my understanding, it is damn near impossible. Tell them that you were updating to 4.2.2 and it won't boot up at all now. That should avoid them replacing the screen and checking everything ultimately getting you a whole new device. I know you said it's not the battery, but try charging it overnight and the try to boot it up. I have seen so many people think they bricked, but discovered later on down the line 'up to 6 months later' that their battery was just dead.

OK if the screen is consistently OK on some apps and not on others it must be a software problem. Try to get into recovery and do factory reset if that doesn't fix it then flash a new factory image. There are instructions in the stickies

That is a possibly how much do you know about the person who sold you it? I would try to reproduce the fault open one of the apps that doesn't flicker and shake the tablet about. If he has damaged the connection on the motherboard then that will make it flicker. Recovered motherboards for the n7 are not expensive the other possibility is a faulty LCD. I bought a mb for £30 and I think in USA they are even cheaper about $20

I tried applying pressure on various regio s shaking it about etc etc but nothing changed it. Once whe I snapped the back cover on it went normal for a split second but didnt stay. The guy I bought it from was my bud he had recently brome it on a trip to chicago that we were on and didnt want to try and fix it. So here I am....... all cables have bee replaced so im not sureee what to do now I dont believe its a faulty lcd but maybe. Sorry for all the spelling errors
@gears177 OK well that rules out him ripping you off at least my guess would be the connection between the ribbon and the motherboard try contact cleaner on it if that doesn't work then a new motherboard is the next step. Perhaps it was damaged when the screen was broken. It could also be damage to the GPU but that's unlikely as the motherboard is well designed to withstand or absorb shocks
