Just got my Nexus 10 back from RMA for the constant buzzing sound, but now my Mac address keeps changing after every reboot -_-
I use a WiFi Mac filter.
Anyone ?
That sounds nuts, and kinda cool - can you post a couple screen shots?

I did more research on the matter, and some people said it was the kernel which could be fixed by placing a code somewhere. I don't know how lol.
Also the guy I did research on was saying that his MAC address started with 00:90:4c then random string every reboot!
I tried the factory wipe, and the same thing keeps happening.
How do I do a re-install of the OS? I think that will do it.
This actually should not be possible, given the MAC address is a physical attribute (although ofc you could use software to mask it). Guess your kernel must be reading it wrong. To my knowledge, it's not like 2.4GHz/5GHz have separate MACs.

Depends. Nothing stock should be acting up like that, so you could try a backup/factory reset, or if you're en route to root, then flashing a different kernel would probably help.

Yeah I did a back/factory reset already. I don't really like rooting because I don't know how to maximize the benefits.
Send back to RMA? lol
OR maybe root and unroot back to stock?

The first link in that post really is just saying to make sure you have the most recent updates to the drivers and SDK, as these are the tools with which to perform the task. Some people had old versions already installed, so its also a reminder to make sure they are updated. Some aspects of the SDK prompt people to update, but running the SDK manager to force the update check is the best bet.
Then yeah, the second link has most of the true steps/content to do the re-install.

A little confusion - the SDK is the software development kit, so its just the software you have on your PC. (Not related to the firmware or anything on your tablet its self.)
For example, if you never had it on your PC you'd get it at http://developer.android.com/sdk/
But then people don't realize you should still run the updater for that title, because it can have very recent updates.
You have to use a Windows executable in the process called fastboot.exe
Some old versions of fastboot.exe don't have all the features that the newer fastboot.exe's do...

Yeah I'm not that good when it comes to these things. I know this is kind of asking a lot, but could you make a step by step to what I need to do? For example, 1. download SDK tool, 2. update tool, 3. stop being a noob lol
Thanks

I'm looking at the 2nd steps from styckx, and I don't know where the tool comes into play

Friends,
Playing around with our HP TouchPad,
i came across the efficient build, ideally for our TP..
Its CM7.1 alpha3.5 based custom ROM, with tweaked UI..
This way i get arround 6 & 1/2 hours of battery backup with wifi..
Steps :-
1) Download the ZIP
2) Extract content to 'SD/clockworkmod/Tablet_Optimized'*
3) Boot in ClockWorkMod Recovery
4) Goto 'Backup & Restore'
5) Select 'Restore'
6) Select 'Tablet_Optimized'
7) Reboot in Android..
*Detailed Readme is attached in the ZIP file too.

Discontinued, seems some of my friends dont like my work..
Whatever, i am loving to use it..
Sorry for any trouble mates..
screenshots?
I did a clockwork recovery, then wipe data factory restore, wipe cache and dalvik cache, 3 times.
Installed the rom with cwm, but when trying to turn wifi on, it would kick me out to the boot screen. After trying a couple of times, I reinstalled the backup. I'm back to Xron B2. 2.
When I turn on Wifi my tablet reboots. I've never had a ROM do that. Other than that, it looks just like stock CM7 to me.
wifi reboot, due to removed Phone process..
will soon fix that..

Idk, I'm running xron and I removed phone, and I haven't had any issues. Your concept is good though. I stripped a bunch out of xron. When I look at running services, there's only about 3 things, lol. Helps battery life and performance.
I also removed telephonyprovider and voicedialer with no ill effects.

I've been dodging installing the PJ1 update for a while. I went and checked, and it has the same line: "remaining updates: 0" I don't think we can assume that Samsung is going to stop updating our Note 4s. Whether they'll give us Nougat, well, that's another question. But I'll bet they keep giving us the security updates a while longer.
remaining updates have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the device is still being supported. it is an indication of how many updates remain before you're "up to date." for example, if you were to flash PH4, then update, you'd have that number go from 0 to however many updates will get you to PL1

Short answer: No
I guess anything is possible, but because Grace is not a specific thing. It's the whole look and feel of the rom. So you'd have to rewrite and edit every aspect of the rom, because I assume samsung builds their rom around grace.
So this would be too much work for anyone.
So really only viable way to get Grace, is you just port a Grace rom. Hence the Note 7 ports.
Hope that answers you question. Best way i can explain it and understand it myself.

can someone upload the zip?
Well, ****. My dumbass updated to PL1, then wiped the hell out of everything and now it won't let me revert to PK1....and there's no PL1 stock out there yet haha.
Does anyone know which samsung software we're supposed to use on these? i've tried kies 2.6, 3 and smart switch....none are working.....multiple PCs with fresh drivers, still nothing :/ I'm afraid i'm screwed until someone uploads a copy of PL1....and even then, who knows lol

So, relentlessly, I kept attempting....different USB ports, different cables, etc, and finally it worked 100%. Had to install TWRP, and reboot a few times cuz it got stuck, but....IT WORKED

I can't count how many installs I've had fail due to crappy USB cords. You fight with it thinking it's software and then it dawns on you, wait maybe it's this cable that's only a few months old! I'm no IPhone fan, but they did it right with their phone cable port.
Also I thought I had read somewhere that you need to use your USB 2.0 port as sometimes that is an issue as well.

I know USB 2.0 was a common recommendation a while back but recently read that USB 3.1 is backward compatible. Perhaps 3.0 is too but I was looking for latest.
Recently built a modular PC and got an USB adapter, if needed, but didn't need it. Last Odin session was Windows 10, did not run as administrator, used original Note 4 USB cable, USB 3.1 and USB driver downloaded from Samsung support for Note 4 which passed without issue. Flashed PJ1 stock tar (verified md5 from AFH upload by @LMMT from stock thread in general forum) using Odin 3.12.3 with Odin defaults.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
TWRP flash was with auto reboot option unchecked.
https://dl.twrp.me/trltespr/twrp-3.0.2-0-trltespr.img.tar
Motherboard is Gigabyte if that makes any difference.
Yeah, I get the frustration you're facing, I've dealt with it too. But my PC was 2009 era, not modular for component swapping and seriously needed replacing. Good news is Note 4 is compatible with updated PC and Windows 10.

I'm thinking maybe nothing's wrong with PL1....this phone I have is apparently a victim of the widespread Note 4 eMMC error :/
In other words, flashing back to PK1 didn't fix it for me. random reboots, and frequent boot failures requiring extended battery pulls.
Still not convinced it's a hardware failure.... but that's probably due to my ignorance and optimism lol. No one seems to have truly found a fix-all for this :/

thats not only changing the letter. thats a FULL phone version. KDZs are restore files. they overwrite EVERYTHING on the phone with what you update it to. so not only will it say v10d but itll also now say sea instead of twn. it will overwrite your modem, apns, pretty much EVERYTHING on the phone. my previous statement still stands. best case nothing. worst case brick.

Then by all means, if you feel you know your device better than the person who exploited the holes needed to bootloader' unlock and root your device, have at it.
Quite frankly, I'm curious too.
I just think I know better than to intentionally flash software that has no business being on my phone.

nope, that's the way you want to read into my words.
all I meant to say was: you don't need to reply all annoyed to someone asking for some information. it wasn't even one of those questions you see asked over and over again. but from the first post you guys had to act all tough and douche.
you think it's something dangerous to do? just say careful, I would advise against doing it. you don't care to help? just shush.

Will it disable OTA updates after that ?
Will it affect radio signaling ?

Thanks in advance for answers

Here are the basics...the Nexus part doesn't matter, it's the same commands.
https://www.howtogeek.com/255311/how-to-manually-upgrade-your-nexus-device-with-adb-sideload/
I use minimal adb (Google it). You can also download the file on your SD card and apply it within recovery. Remember, it will wipe your data!
Thanks
Thank you very much, I did it with the recovery

Was just going to do this, but now I think I'll wait for your report back! I assume that includes everything the international model just got in QEB, plus whatever else they modified after that. Wondering if QEB will be released for the AT&T model as well and QEF is the beginning build of the next release, or if AT&T had issues in QEB and QEF is an iteration on getting to a releasable update. It'd be nice to know which (if either) they'll release, in order to be able to stay on the OTA path in the future!

I would really like to know how to modify the updater_script file to not wipe data. I looked at the code and can't find the command. On the nexus/pixel it was easy (remove -w command) but I can't find anything in the OTA.

Yeah I can't find any place where it might be doing it either. Nothing in the update itself appears to be touching /data. I'm wondering if it's part of the stock recovery, something like "always wipe user data if an update is sideloaded".

Doesn't work - give us information like where you downloaded it from. Are you sure you were not on Fire OS 5.3.1?
I dunno then. I probably am on 5.3.1
This might explain why kingroot has been telling me for nearly a day I have root. I've forced stopped it, cleared cache and data, uninstalled and sometimes it still tells me I have root. However, I haven't connected to the PC to try that way since the new release. BTW no I don't have root...yet.
EDIT: Just tried. No root via PC. Did they do another update in the last 12 or so hours?
See...this is what I have been seeing for pretty much the last 24 hours or so:

"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

No worries though. I am not root yet
tried latest kingroot 5.20 but it doesnt work for me on fire os 5.3.3.0

Right. Let's just assume everyone is a troll. He very well could've rooted an older version. Maybe not. Everyone here had 4 posts at one point.

well the topic states he found root for FireOs 5.3.3.0 but he did not deliver any proof, also serveral people tested (me including) and cant confirm. so in this instance its probably safe to say OP is a troll.

Really? OP got a little excited and posted what he believed to be a 'win'. A day later he acknowledged the error (kinda). The following sums it up nicely:

well i used the wrong wording by calling op a troll. that was not my intention. although in the end it doesnt really matter if it was intentional or just a mistake by op.

Question...does anyone know what signatures the bootloader accepts on Amazon tablets? I know they are supposed to be official. But what is defined as such...example: Would it accept a signature from Google?

Modify an APK. Run an exploit that way. Trick the CPU into installing an app it still thinks is 'official.' not sure how to gain root that way, but maybe we could modify an APK to be able to reinstall on /sdcard/ so it can uninstall itself. It's not root, but would at least get rid of the apps for a period.

You can't modify the apk without it modifying Amazon's signature. You can't reinstall system apps either in Fire OS 5.3.3 and above. Although you might be able to for one app, but I am not holding my breath.

I might have a way, but it isn't pretty. And I learned recently that some think it to be even more unethical than what we are already doing. So I won't post here.

Sure, what's your way? I might be able to help you out.
If we can read the signature from a stock rom and apply it to SuperSU.zip we could flash it through stock recovery
