[Q] S4 Memory problem, Need help.. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all, hello to everyone, I've been a big fan of this site since the very start I found it out and it sure helped me alot in my android experiences and adventures. So.. Thank You All, for these great efforts and information you'll are providing in order to help people and make phones more pleasant to use.
'This is the first time I'm posting on XDA bc I need help with something:
I have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S 4 (i9505 model). I'm from Netherland btw and also bought my S4 here.
Before my S4 I was using a HTC DHD, which I screwed around alot with, like installing custom ROM's provided here and other stuff. I don't know if some options on Android phones are phone specific or not. But on my DHD i always could move apps from internal memory to my SD Card and otherwise, which i can't on my S4. This is like the last thing I need to do on my S4, bc I got a 16 GB model (9 or so useable) and I got only 3 GB left while I have a Ext. SD Card of 32 GB (30 useable) and only used 1,5 GB of it.
'This feels like having a beautifull hot girlfriend, but not being able to do anything nice with it, if you know what I mean..
I don't know where, but I once read it's possible to merge internal and external to 1 storage, like combining 2 partitions to 1 or making a RAID partition out of 2 different storages on phones. Is there anyone who can help me exactly with what I need please?
Thanks in advance.

The new software update thats allready rolling out will allow apps 2 sd card feature, it has arrived to some countries already maybe you should check your OTA or kies update. Or else you can flash it yourself manually .

what is your build number? is it like XXUBMEA?
Anyway what i do is go to settings, app manager, swipe to the right to find 'all' where all your apps is located, then click on an app and find "move to SD card"

Update to XXUBMEA. It provides App2sd support but I think you can only move the app, not its data.

[Q] Install CUstom rom without external SD

Hi Guys its been a long time since I visited the forum since Xperia X1 came out basicly! ok my question is quite simple since I didnt seem to find it in the forum I figured I should ask! Is it possible to install a custom rom on Ideos X5 without and actual external SD card? since I just got my hands on the phone and havent yet bought one!
Thanks in Advance
Regards,
It is possible, the partition table must be changed and it should work.
I actually wanted to add this option to my recovery, but I am trying to fix a bug first.
Sent from my U8800 using Tapatalk
buy an sd
i would suggest you to go out and buy an sd card its not that expensive anyway 15 euros 8gb because you should really make a backup of your current rom because if anything goes wrong you are gonna really need it has saved me many times, trust me dont hurry things.
CLICK THANKS if you find this useful.

NAND vs. SD method

Hi
A friend of mine asked me if I could put Android on his HD2 as he bought one with German language and he doesn't understand anything at all. Now we wan't to completely remove Windows Mobile 6.5.x from the phone and install Android. ICS with HTC sense is prefered but and older version will also do.
I have found multiple tutorials, but I wonder which method is the best. NAND or SD?
At this point in time we don't have any SD-card in the phone, so I asume the Sd method isn't usable. But which method and ROM is the best to use if we want to be able to switch language and want Android experience as close to the HTC android phones as possible.
Are there any bugs with the HD2 in Android? I've heard that there should be problems with the sound when calling people, and the data-connection should be unstable as well. Are these rumors still current or have they been solved?

Ok. First of all, Nand is the better of the two. As your friend want to COMPLETELY remove winmo6.5 its better to use NAND. Currently there is no ICS sense rom but the sense gingerbread roms work very smoothly with all features working. So you may want to try that. And dont worry you can change language from german to english. You basically select english at the startup setup.
One more thing. Even when installing the NAND version of android you will need a sd-card. The rom is a .zip file which must be copied to the sd card and this rom will be installed on the phones internal memory hence: NAND.
Hope it helps
Feel free to ask but i suggest you search it first and read more, because clearly you are lacking information

Thanks for the quick reply. I will read further on how to install using NAND method. But how big should the SD-card be. As said he doesn't have a SD-card in his phone. I have one but it's only 128MB, so not a whole lot. If the phone was using the MiniSD cards instead of microSD I had a 1GB card. But isn't it possible to get a Gingerbread HTC Sense ROM and then extract and repack it on the PC so it can fit the 128MB card. Or are the packed ROM's small enough to fit on a 128MB card?
Tell your friend to invest in about 4GB or more, once you've got a few apps, video video clips, music files and recovery backups then the 4GB will be eaten fairly fast imo. If you grab a class 6 card you can get one for less then $1/GB (aud).

Dont forget the thanks button
Anyways, basically the sd card is used to put the rom in and all music, pics, apps etc. will be stored on the sd card. plus, the 128 mb card will not hold the rom. Some files of the rom are installed on the sd card as well(some) so yeah, like the above user said, invest in a class 4 sd card with a fairly high amount of memory.
try the link below, it could give you an idea
You will need an SD card anyhow as mentioned before. Not only for flashing it to Nand, also some ROMs needs an ext(2 or 3) partition on the SD card. Specially when it's an EU device as yours might seems.
F.e.: I got an EU model and the great Energy ROM running - this needs a 1Gb ext(2 or 3) partition on the SD card!
-> It depends on the ROM of your choice.
Right now, I guess there is now ICS ROM with sense out there - or an I wrong?
I can definetly recommend the NRG ROM as this one runs really great. There is also a very good lashing instruction in its thread.
Good luck :good:
Ooh, ooh, me too!!

I also want to completely remove winmo6.5 from my wife's stock UK HTC HD2 and put some form of Android OS on it so I can then get her Ovivo Mobile mobile connection to work (I'm not bothered about dual boot functionality). Could you quickly link to a guide you would recommend to do this ("Thanks" will always be given :good: ).
(Note: I had an HD2 once, and bricked it after 9 months of ownership with a dodgy radio, so I'm a bit once-bitten-twice-shy about doing it).

Here is my favourite guide. It's incredibly simple. You should really search before posting though, it isn't difficult to find.
Thanks

Going to read some thread and ask your question in the Galaxy S2 section would be a better option than in general Omni section no ?

Thanks for this Information, but i think that's not the real problem. He asked why App2SD doesn't work. There are only a lot of apps filling the internal Memory, no big data that should or could moved to a sd card.
That's the same Problem on my phone (Galaxy Note N7000). I see the Option "Move to SD" in the application menu, but if i want to move the app, i got an error message that's not possible to move the app.

The fix has been merged yesterday and it will be in today's Nightly for n7000, i9100 and any other device using galaxys2-common tree.

To avoid any myths starting, this has nothing whatsoever to do with 4.4.2 - the commit just happened to be made the same night as 4.4.2 was merged in. Pure coincidence, nothing more.

[Q] i9505 CM12 storage problem

Hi all,
Actually this is a 2 part question.
I just updated my i9505 to CM12 lollipop.
1. This is a minor problem out of the 2. The internal storage bar shows a wrong proportion. As you can see, I have 1.81GB available but it's taking up half the meter bar for some reason.
2. From the photos you can see I have 13.31GB available on my external SD card, yet when I tried to move some apps from internal storage to SD, lollipop is giving me an error saying "Couldn't move app. Not enough storage space." Which is obviously not true. I also tried using Link2SD but it gave me an message saying "INSTALL_FAILED_CONTAINER_ERROR".
If anyone could give me some advice on how to fix the mentioned problems I will be very grateful.
Thank you in advance,
Nelson

ok thanks. I assume it's a problem with CM. I guess all we can do is wait for updates!
May not be a CM problem...

Hello All,
I am a long time user of custom ROMs for my devices, as I'm sure most here are. I have had my Shield tablet (wifi only 16gb version) since January, and in that time I have tried many ROMs. The only one that has allowed app to be installed onto the SD was the rooted stock Lollipop. I have tried, PAC (KK and LP beta), CM12, and ASOP 5.0. All fresh installs of these ROMs have lead to the infamous 'Couldn't Move app. Not enough Storage Space.'.... Therefore, I am waiting patiently for a solid ROM that allows App2SD. Keep up the good work!

How To: Switch back to Android KitKat to get awesome storage space again.

Hi Friends,
I was extremely annoyed with Lollipop Upgrade as I didnt had enough storage space after the upgrade.. Removing system apps also didn't help. I was looking for some KitKat Roms and I found this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816/development/26-nov-svhd-v1-0-0-t2953661
This is one of the best KitKat Roms available and works amazing on my Device. (Dual Sim Version)
FYI: This is NOT MY CREATION and I would like to give 100% Credit to the Author.
Hope this Helps

I just had 8 gigs memory card. So, the better alternative was to get 3.5 gigs free space on phone rather than buying a new memory card :highfive:
