[Q] How can I disable the shutter sound - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to call out the menu "shutter sound" and switch it off. I don't want to change the audio file.
I can't find that xml file.
Anyone knows how to deal with this?
Thanks

For now, to disable camera shutter sounds, you pretty much have turn off all sounds, media, notification and system sounds which is stupid since all my old phones has the ability to turn off shutter sound.

If you have root you can go to root >system >media >audio>ui and delete shutter.ogg (and any other . ogg files you don't want) . They're all pretty obviously named.

Its not really stupid... its just a political bandaid.
It is a legal matter where in many aisan markets it is illegal to sell a device pre provided with the ability to turn off the camera sound.
This law is there to discourage upskirt and down blouse photos... as well as other forms of privacy invasion. Video cams makr no sound however... so the technology beats the law again... but they keep the shutter sound law just please the politicians.

That option is not available to everyone, which is why the question keeps coming back. If the option is not there, you'll need root and a text editor. Go to system - csc - others.xml and change the line with Camera_ShutterSoundMenu from false to true.

Flashed the MEA update today and the solution above is not applicable anymore. Can't find another text file with the mentioned line. Anybody with a solution?

I've used Tasker. Just create a profile that mutes the phone when the camera starts and re-enables it when you leave it. Works perfectly fine for people who don't want to root.

this is worked, thanks!

some custom rom has quiet shutter sound support just mega.

Just remove shuttersound.ogg and other sound files with camera in when going to system . media. Ui (I think). This if your rooted.
Skickat från min GT-I9505 via Tapatalk 2

I am also on MEA firmware and can confirm that the shutter sound line in the others.xml no longer works. The option to turn the shutter sound off does appear in the app, but you can't actually change its settings.
I have already tried renaming the shutter.ogg files to no avail. From what I've read, the sounds are cooked into the APK itself, thus overriding the sounds in /system/media/audio/ui/.

I deleted some camera ogg's, forgot what they were called and shutter ogg, maybe another shutter ogg also, forgot what those were called and it worked fine for me. I deleted them, because I don't care. If you want to keep ur files, jus rename them shutter.ogg.bak or something like that.

Nevermind, just tried the modded camera APK here and it works a treat! Just renamed the existing APK, moved the modded one in its place, and rebooted. Didn't need to wipe Dalvik cache or anything!

Camera shutter sound

Hi everyone.
I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to disable the camera shutter sound when the phone is not on silent
Thanks

I can't seem to find the option to switch off the camera shutter sound too
The camera setting don't seem to be permanently set all the time, for eg. when I switch on auto contrast, it went back to "off" again when I use the camera for the second time.

Shutter sound can't be disabled by default. If you are rooted, you can rename the ogg file and it won't play.
File is in /system/media/audio/ui
It seems the SGS2 has gone backwards as even with SGS1, the camera sound can be turned off in the settings menu.
Don't take this as absolute truth, but I'm pretty sure it's the law in some countries that you're not able to turn off the camera-shutter sound.
"Blade buddy" allows you to turn it off. It's free on the market.

This is true in a number of locations.
I've managed to stop the shutter sound and the video recording start/stop sounds by renaming all the camera-related ogg files in the /system/media/audio/ui folder, but I can't seem to find the ogg file for the camera 'autofocus' sound.
Does anyone know which file this is?

The focus sounds are stored inside the camera app itself and because of that a little harder to get rid of. Because it is app-related you could use another camera app and not have the problem... or you can try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074628

Root explorer (or other proper apps) should ask for root permission, allow that. After that you'll need to mount the system partition with write access. Root Explorer has a little button at the top for this, no experience with other apps.

[Q]How to change the camera shutter sound?
no need for me to open a new topic, since i got a similar question, how can we change that horrible camera shutter sound?
the default sound from the sgs1 is what I'm looking for, i found out that this specific sound is played by the system in sgs2 when you take a screenshot (by pressing Home + Power buttons), but i can't figure out where to find it and how can i set it as the default shutter sound for the camera app
so, i don't want to disable the sound, i already found some topics explain that, i just want to replace it
any help is appreciated

OK found it, but how can i replace the files with an silent one.
I cannot cut or rename those original .ogg files, probably because it is situated in the apk file.
what to do?
also the solution for 'maranello69': copy the beloved shutter1.ogg file from the sgs and just replace it in your sgs2.
Just put the phone in vibrating mode and the sound is gone

The 2.3.4 update also does this (its the first one I've bothered updating my SGSII for). I'll just set Tasker to set silent on when the camera is on, and revert when the camera app closes, job done.

[Q] Note 3 Shutter sound set off Focus can't

Hi guys.
Need to say I looked 2 days to clarify that problem through topics but could not.
I have samsung galaxy note 3 unlocked international . SM-N9005
I rooted the phone I am able to access system folders.
So i see camera sounds stuff is located under
/system/media/audio/ui
the files I believe related to my problem are (at least I opened all others and did not find any more focus/shutter sounds) :
Auto_focus.ogg
camera_click.ogg
Camera_click_short.ogg
camera_focus.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
I changed their filenames. And -
I was able to mute shutter sound. BUT focus sound is still on !!
I tried to move that darn sound files to other folder - all in vain.
Yes I restarted and shut down the phone.
Also the app that does mute system sounds when camera is on does not work for me. When my phone is on mute that freaking camera still produces noise.
So to recap. Shutter sound turned off by changing media filenames. Focus still on.
Any ideas??

nope. so I read some more info and looks like camera sounds are hardcoded in camera.apk
Hence you may rename delete whatever you want but on this version sound still be on.
Other camera applications I have installed do not produce any sounds.
Add this to your others.xml in system/csc
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Reboot and there will be a sound option in camera settings where you can just silent all sounds.

All these problems are coming from the CSC you are using. ie XEF (France). It's a build feature in the camera APK itself to match the laws. Try changing your CSC(ie CHINA for me) if you want to be able to disable camera sound without rooting and/or changing system files. It worked for me.

HOW TO: Disable Camera Shutter Sound (Root)

I don't believe this was posted in an actual step-by-step guide, so here it is! This worked to successfully stop the camera shutter sound from going off when snapping photos with the volume up on my VS986. I hope this is the same as other G4 variants, so let me know if this works for you as well and which model you have.
Before you get started, you need to be rooted for this method.
Step 1:
Use a root-capable file browser of your choice (I prefer SolidExplorer) and navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Step 2:
Locate cam_snap_0.ogg and camera.click.ogg and rename the file extensions to .OLD, as seen below.
Step 3:
Reboot, then test
Or just mute the sound before taking a picture if you really don't want be heard.

There's many reasons people don't want the shutter sound. Such as taking photos of a sleeping baby, animals without scaring them, in quiet restaurant or function, etc. Plus third party programs don't utilize LG's great camera software.

Did you know some Country Variants etc: Korea Variants like what I have, even you mute the sound of your device, the camera shutter still as loud as it is. I believe it is the policy of the country

Right but it would seem all the G4 variants do not allow to disable sound. I find that strange since samsungs provide that setting for non-korean variants.
So it should not require root to be able to do this...but whatever...

I edited and wrote the fix underneath my original question lol
Here's something I don't get...
cam_snap_0 and camera_click don't actually seem to make the sound we hear in the camera app, right?
The closest I found was shuter_mirror_up/down, but that didn't actually take away the shutter sound like the two outlined above.
Why is that?
All shutter and focus sounds disabled! Thanks!

Just rename doesnt work for me (H815), but what worked: edited audio files with audacity. now the cam is silent, always while AF and taking a picture.
No flashable zip. Extract and replace files manually in /system/media/audio/ui/
Edit: one day there was sound again. Fixed it with setting permissions to -rw-r--r-- on every replaced file. Reboot and there was silence.
Edit: heres a flashable zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68225350&postcount=21

Disable shutter sound..impossible on Note 4 5.1.1?

Hi guys
I have a rooted phone and tried many ways to disable the camera sounds.
The Korean SM-N910K has restrictions where there is no option to disable it.
Vol. down etc. does nothing
I tried apps and also es explorer and renaming the camera files but there is still sound
Has anyone successfully disabled sounds on a Korean Note 4?
Thanks
Doesn't editing the csc file do the job on a Korean N4? You could try with CSC Manager from Play Store

Disable camera shutter sound

Hi, I have rooted my phone and used a File explorer (Root Explorer) and proceeded to rename all the camera related audio files located at /system/media/audio/ui to .old
After a reboot I tried to see if the sound is gone but it is still there.
Following some old guide I found here I tried to find system/csc/feature.xml but it does not exist at all (nor the file nor the folder CSC)
I know a work around is to use a bixby routine to enable DND as long as the camera is open but considering that I am rooted I wanted to find a solution (not a work around)
I tried using Magisk Modules but they don't work either.
I am using Android 10

But nobody knows if the option is hidden or removed by default because of the obvious people trying to take inappropriate or illegal photos without consent. Just like recording phone calls, the option isn't available by system only 3rd party apps. Even though in my State its legal to record without consent any phone call in which i am a party to. Under the surveillance and devices act 1999. Yet Google decided to just kill the option globally.
I'm using an app from GG Play store to mute the camera app. It works just fine
