US T-Mobile S4 (SGH-M919) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, thinking about signing up for a new family plan and getting either a Nexus 4 or the Samsung Galaxy S4. From my understanding, no one has ported ASOP onto the T-Mobile version yet (SGH-M919). I absolutely HATE touchwiz, I'd want to put Jellybean 4.2.2 on from day one. If this isn't possible, I'll settle for the Nexus 4.
I'm really digging the hardware specs on the S4, and the memory expansion slot/larger battery is really catching my attention.
What do you guys think?
EDIT : got the HTC One!

[Q] Worth returning S2X for Nexus 4?

Hey guys, glad to finally be on the forum (I've spent a loooong time reading but never posting ).
Here's my issue: Recently I bought a Galaxy S2X with Koodo on a tab plan, and so far I am loving the phone. However, recent news of the Nexus 4 has gotten my attention. Koodo has a 14-day money back guarantee on all their phones, and I bought the phone on Sunday past (the 28th) so I still have some time to return it. My question is, is the Nexus 4 a better phone? Because I can buy the S2X outright from Koodo for $300, and the Nexus is similarly priced. Is it worth returning the Galaxy, being phoneless for two weeks, and then getting the Nexus? I know nobody has had hands on experience, so it's gonna be hard to tell. I wish I could wait for some reviews to pop up about the Nexus 4, but I can't wait that long, a phone is essential (obviously).
What do you guys think?
Cheers, Tristan.
You can watch reviews of the optimus g, as they have the same screen, without the buttons, and spec sheet.
If your into androud development, have a phone to use during the 2 week wait, liker being on the latest android version, and don't like the touchwiz overlay do it because it is a beast.
If you're happy using your s2x, and like the way it is keep it, its a good phone too, and the 2 weeks without a phone would be horrible. If you want the $299 one it will have 8gb of storage, so if your used to the 16gb and expandable storage in the s2x don't.
I also own S II X from Telus myself. I am getting Nexus 4 for one of my family members to replace HD2 I guess it all depends your need and price you pay for it. No doubt Nexus 4 ' s price is very attractive. However I think S II X for 300 is also a good price.
If you do not mind the none-removable battery and no sd slot then you will love Nexus 4 no doubt. I currently have 2 spare batteries that I use in rotation for my S II X because android phones do drain quite fast and I want to save time connecting charger to my phone directly because phone has to be connected while charging. I am on the move alot. I also like having large collection of videos and music on my phone even though I can take advatange of true unlimited data plan to use cloud storage. ( I used over 10 gb last month, no throtlling and no cap).
I just gotta have battery option and sd card slot but its just me. It may not matter for you.
So I guess it's all up to your preference.
Thanks guys. I think I'll probably return the S2x and wait for the nexus, it looks snazzy and also Jelly bean looks good too.
I recently bought a HTC One X quad. am i'm returning it and waiting for the Nexus 4. I wondered why Google don't make micro sd slot and/or add 32 GB? I would certainly pay more for it.

My only possible thought is maybe it was an agreement with LG. After all, the Nexus 4, for the price, is superior in many ways, so there has to be SOME incentive to get the optimus G. That's my two cents!

Nexus 4 or galaxy 3?

Hello, this is my first post as I have just sold my ip5 and moving over to android. The poor performing maps and siri were the straw that broke this camels back. I don't have the time and confidence that apple may get it up to googles standard, especially not on a device that costs over £500.
I have never owned an android before but would love some advice as to whether my first one should be a nexus 4 or samsung galaxy S3.
I intend to use it for games and photos etc. so performance is a huge factor for me.
Thanks for all advice in advance.
I am selling my galaxy s3 for the nexus. The nexus is faster, smoother, will have better updates and also will have build quality closer to the iPhone.

Um well the Galaxy 3 is an old low end device. Not good at all. The Galaxy S3 however is a different story.
Both are quad core phones. So both should be plenty fast. We can't say the exact performance of the Nexus yet as it hasn't been released and the software is still in beta. The Nexus does cost only half the S3 so that's worth keeping in mind
*samsung Galaxy S3!
Haha Galaxy 3 is a very old android
Get The Nexus.
Wait until the N4 is in shops and then go and see both in person - the issue with posting here is that people are likely to tell you to go for the N4...Personally, I don't like the S3's design - the buttons are too low to be comfortable to use with one hand

The s3 has all the (potential) downsides of he N⁴ covered; removable battery, sd card, bigger storage and LTE. If (one/some of) these are important/crucial to you get the galaxy s3. If not, I'd say go for the N⁴.
P.S. AFAIK the s3 will take better pics, but IMHO the difference isn't big enough to warrant choosing it over the N⁴. This is based off of my memory of reviews, not personal experience.

Seconded, especially if we're talking off-contract.
Like others I am buying the N4 (currently have S3) and will likely be selling my S3 shortly after.
The S3 is a VERY nice phone, I almost have no complaints about the phone itself. For me the problem is myself, I get bored and want a new phone. Add in the amount of dev for a Nexus device compared to an AT&T locked phone, and getting updates first, I'm sold. Then tell me its only $350 vs the $550 I paid for the S3... well gee
I am actually taking a detour in between to try out the Note II or maybe even a Lumia 920 this Friday when they hit AT&T stores, but again just out of boredom / I'll make a little money on it (buying @ upgrade price and sell) and possibly to try out WP8 just for something different.
Nexus 4 IMHO :good:
Dude, we can't tell you what to buy. It's your choice.
If you don't mind Samsung's touch wiz and you want/need micro SD, removable battery, bigger screen, or 4g, by all means, go with Galaxy
If you want stock Android, up to date software and hardware, and you want that "nexus" experience, nexus 4 will suit you very well

Worth switching from Note II?

If there already was a giant thread on this I do apologize but I couldn't find it.
Anyway I currently have a Note II but don't use any of the S-Pen features and actually came to dislike the size of the phone. So if there is anyone out there that did make the switch: is it worth selling this Note and buying the S4 outright?

There are some people that swear the Note 2 is better. I have both in my home. Used both side by side for days. Just the size of the Note 2 alone makes me gag. I love my S4. No comparison in my OPINION. That's just me. Just the fluidity and functions alone are so much better. The screen is absolutely brilliant. Once custom roms come along it'll be nuff said.

I Upgraded to the S4 from the Note 2. The issues i had with the note were that even with its size i still could not use it as an e-reader/tablet like i wanted too, i also did not use the spen nearly as much as it was made for. With that said i had no reason to stay with a larger device. On top of the screen and camera on the S4 i am able to carry it much more comfortable in my pocket because of the lightweight slim frame.
Thanks guys, the unfortunate thing is I'm on Verizon and I'm probably going to be looking at a couple months before they can crack the bootloader and custom ROMs are actually available.

Bootloader is already cracked. We're all patiently waiting for you Verizon guys so all of us can get some custom roms.

I have a brand new note 2 barely used interested in a trade?
I sold my 7 month old Note 2 & bought this AT&T I337. I love the S4, but I wish I'd got one that doesn't have the locked bootloader.
I switched from the note 2. The only reason i really did it was because someone offered me $400 for my note 2. I had an upgrade so I pocketed $200. Other than that.. I don't think the upgrade is really significant. Especially when the note 2 gets most of the S4 functions.

HTC EVO 4G my new toy

Hi
Just purchased an EVO 4G on e bay for a song just to play around with, one of the reasons was this was the first commercially available 4G handset available on the market correct me if I'm wrong. I was in the States when they released it back in 2010 and did cue to get one sim free and was prepared to pay over the odds sim free but couldn't get my hands on one. Anyway to the point it's pretty prehistoric in comparison to my note 3 and HTC one and i'm wondering how stable jelly bean 4.3 maybe on it. Has anybody tried it?
Thanks
Yeah. I'm here because I sold my GS4 and wanted an interim before getting the Note 3.
They have their qerks. Right now I'm going through them all and the list is pretty long for an archaic device. Right now I'm on MIU and I like it so far. Camera is not using all 8mb but it works. Right now I'm downloadin Omega and it looks promising.

Razr HD to Note 3?

Hey everyone, I am seriously considering switching from my razr HD to a note 3, just wondering though, whats the big differences with touchwiz? I am used to motorola's near stock OS but want the pen and other features along with better specs of the note. I am planning on buying the unlocked version and getting a ATT sim from strait talk and using it that way.
Just want to have some advice going towards samsung as my last experience with the galaxy prevail was poor but that was a budget phone.
