I'm currently using a class 10 Ultra 32Gig sdhc card with my S4. Its the very same card I had in my S3. So once I upgraded to the S4 I just inserted it in to the slot and for a while it was working fine up until 3 weeks ago. My S4 started saying I had no SD mounted. After removing the SD card a few times and restarting the device the S4 wouldn't recognize it or it would mount it. So what I did at that point I factory restored my device. For 3 weeks no problems with it. Now tonight after taking a few pics which I have my camera photos set to save to the SD card the S4 didn't recognize the SD card and as a result unmounted it but its still in the slot unrecognized. I have music and pictures saved on card so I'm not sure at this point if its an issue with the card itself or perhaps the device. I really don't want to factory restore the device again I hate having to do it again a second time for the same issue. Any help is most appreciated.

I have the SD card content backed up luckly my PC recognized it when i connected it. I was thinking of switching to samsung sdhc but i have seen on other forums people having issues with that brand also. I switched from the Sandisk Utra 32gig to to Regular Sandisk 16gig no issues to report. But im buying another SD card not sure which one to buy. I dont want to have this issue repeat itself.

Both me and my son use the 64gb Samsung card. Just took them out of package, popped them in and no issues. Got on Amazon and came in Samsung packaging

Did you have the phone format it before you started using the SD card?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
I thought about it, but we just put them in phone and started using them
Using an app like Quick System Info confirmed it is there and working
Have well over half of it filled as well as half of internal
All good--
I bought a 64 gb card and all I had to do was format it when I put it in my phone. It worked in my Droid Bionic and works in my S4 now with no problems.

Hello, I just recieved my 16 gig memory card and was very happy to see it compatible with my phone. So I can't comment on the 32 gig but feel free to enjoy the 16 gig.
When I got my wing, the Tmobile rep said not to use anything higher than a 4gb card. He was quite dramatic when he leaned over the counter and said it.
Sandisk 4 GB SDHC here. No problems.

He's an idiot.
I'm using 16 gig
16 gig Kingston with no changes in access time. looking forward to getting a 32 gig.
The Wing supports SDHC Cards (All SDHC Cards use the same Technology to store information)
Any Card 4GB+ is considered SDHC
Therefore, any card that is SDHC, would be supported, as long as the technology doesn't change as the sizes get bigger and bigger.
And BTW, if anyone spends the $$ on a 32GB, maybe they should be donating to our Cooks instead... haha
i use a 16gig microcenter memory card.

AND... like many sales reps, they are totally full of crap... I use an 8g MicroSD card, and it works fine, perfectly.
And, for those who don't want to pay SanDisk's unnecessarily high prices, use the "new player in the market", TRANSCEND microSD cards:

LMAO i couldnt stop laughing when i read this.
SD CARD LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!
rofl i lol'd too. im sure it was an oversight or something. anyway im still curious if the device can even use the whole transfer rate offered by a class six. Can anyone confirm that this phone can utilize a class 6 to its full potential?
*so i read up that wiki. according to that then there is no point in getting anything over a class two since the top speed it hits with a class 6 is .5 MB/s and the class 2 bandwidth limit is 2Mb/s*
sooooo any thoughts on this?
sandisk does have a 32gb microsd.... but it's class 2 and $200
http://sandisk.com/products/mobile-memory-products/sandisk-microsdhc
not in stock now though.... it was a bit back....
neato, but if it was in stock wouldn't it have the same performance on our phone as a class 6? From what i wrote earlier, i believe our speed is capped by a hardware limitation so 4+ class speeds wont help?.
id really like an expert to confirm this.
I would also like an experts advice on this matter... I am stuck with a 2g micro card and am looking to buy the biggest one I can stick in my phone.

Depends on how soon you want it. Also, I presume you are using a similar device to the TP... I was in a BestBuy recently and they had an 8gb microsd in-stock! The only place I was able to get a 16gb microsd(class 2), was online unfortunately. Of course, I did see a few 32GB usb sticks for under $100 and grabbed one up, several months ago...
Also, as physical proof that a 16gb card will work/be recognized:

Does the class count?! This week i would like to buy a 16GB class 10 card?! will it work? i'm not interested in the speed. im just interested in it to work in the phone 4 downloading movies over the internet & such...
save money, get a slower class. 16 gb works.
Let's bring this thread up to date now in 2016 I can confirm 128gb and 200gb micro sd cards work in my T7272.
I know what the different class ratings mean as far as write/read speeds go for a phone, but as a first time buyer of one, I was looking for recommendations as far as what class would best suit an S4, as I'm looking to purchase a 64 gig card where the prices can vary by a fairly large margin. Also, brand recommendations would be appreciated as well with anyone with real knowledge on the matter! Thanks!

As mentioned, "class 10", but be very careful there is a huge problem with cards that are being sold as class 10 cards that don't preform nearly to the specs that a class 10 card should. This is a problem that all card manufacturers are facing. It is due to many reasons, counterfeit cards, mismarked cards, substandard production, re-marked cards, etc... Even cards with packaging that looks legit, so, good luck.
I have a 64GB SanDisk UHS1 MicroSDXC card. It should work fine with the s4,right?

I would hope so, but with all of the problems I wouldn't count on it. I've bought many miro-SD cards in the past several months. I've bought Sandisk 32 GIG class 10 cards (or so they were represented) from Radio Shack, Amazon, and Best Buys. None of them benchmarked as class 10 when it came to Write speeds. They were all between 6 and 8 times write speed. I also bought a PNY 32 GIG class 10 card. It benchmarked at over 10X write speed and worked very well, however, it lasted about 2 weeks and crapped out. I've used Amazon basics and Samsung cards before, but they were 16 GIG cards and seemed to work well (I didn't benchmark them). If you do searches on Google about the issue or look at reviews for cards available on Amazon you can see how big of an issue it is.
When companies say like "up to 64GB", is that simply because that's the max that's available right now or is it a physical limit? When 128GB microSD cards come out, wouldn't they be compatible too since they'll still be SDXC?

Yes, that is why they say that. I can say that having been amongst the first to purchase 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64GB cards at times when manufacturers said they did not work - they all did.
Today I noticed the sd card area of my phone was heating up. Checked fauxclock and all cores were steady at 1.2ghz. Unmounted card, and everything was fine. I thought it may have been a kernel issue as this happened once before with my old 16gb card, but a reboot solved it that time.
I'm on mint jelly v2.1, faux 005m and using SanDisk 64gb class 10 uhs1 formatted to fat32 using a program from download.com I found in another thread on xda (yes I did my research on this before posting).
Is anyone else noticing stuff like this? If not how did you format your card, what settings did you use to format it?
I've read that Samsung's tend to reject SanDisk cards, but this seems like more of a bad format or maybe corrupt file on the card. I pulled a log, and when the card is mounted the log becomes inundated with hits from facial recognition(face unlock perhaps?)
Here's the log:

So I reformatted, loaded stuff back up, and got the same issue. I did learn it only happens when there are pictures on the SD card though. If I take the pics off, and just leave data like backups, the cores peg for a few seconds then shut down like normal. WTF is going on here. Is face unlock trying to scan all 8 gigs of pictures for faces? lost...
One or more of your picture files is probably corrupted.

Copy your data off the card, reformat it, and see if it reoccurs. If it doesn't, then try putting your data back on one folder at a time with Camera photos last and see what happens.
If there are _A_LOT_ of photos Gallery could be creating and saving thumbnails in the background.
Let me guess, you have a Sandisk 64gb card
I did a full format using the gui formatter last night. Loaded it back up, same thing. Took all the pics off, and it's all better. So I took my old 16gb card and put it in, which I haven't touched and it worked fine when I took it out, and the cores pegged again. So I said maybe it's the rom... Even though both cards worked fine with pics up until I made the op. I factory reset it, still the same! Everywhere I go with my troubleshooting I hit a brick wall.
I'm entertaining the gallery thumbnail idea, but that to me doesn't explain the overflow of facial recognition in the log.

I have a 64gb Sandsik UDA-1 in mine. Been almost a month now fine. Althought I've reformatted it myself willingly a few times. (exFat > ext4 > exFat > Fat32) depending on the ROM i was using and whether they support exFat or EXT4.
It seems they are very hit and miss. This is very frustrating. But my 16gb card is a transcend, and like I said I had the same problem with it...

SO.... I unfroze the gallery, stuck my old sd card back in chock full of pics and videos. It warmed up quite nicely. Cores stated steady at 1.242 for a good 20 minutes and burnt 15 percent of my battery. Then all the sudden... Nothing. Core 1 idling at 384. Maybe I made a big deal about nothing, sort of. I've never encountered such an issue... Maybe someone who knows more than I can explain why the phone feels the need to scan every file with reckless abandon when a card is inserted.
I'll transfer everything back to my SanDisk 64gb and report back if anyone gives a crap

Hi everybody, next week my C6903 arrives and I'm buying everything necessary to make the most from it; so about the microSD card, Is the Z1 fast enough to make good use of such a fast card? It's about 64 US Dollars (tax included) http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13239498&filterName=Brand&filterValue=SanDisk#
There are benefit from a fast card like loading a video or forwarding it with minimum to no lag, faster picture loading from album and faster write speed while downloading via LTE. But I won't recommend this SanDisk Ultra Micro SDXC. Mine spoiled after 3 months even with utmost careful usage. I can't write to the card anymore neither can it be formatted. It's behaving like a DvD now. Better get a Lexar card.

I myself never liked Sandisk product, since they dont make their own memory covering SD.
The only card I trust is Sony Product SD cards, works as advertised.
But I see no Difference running UHS1 in my Z1.

if you want to have a 64GB card then it has to be a class 10. This card is slower than the extreme. The Z1 can handle the extreme.
See @hasona's post for more
His tests show the Z1 has an avg read/write speed of 40MB/s with the sandisk extreme.
Whereas the ultra can only manage 10/12MB/s
I got Samsung 64GB UHS-1 Pro with 70mb in reading and 20 in Writing and working like a charm. Of curse due to hardware limited bandwidth of the microSD slot I got 41mb/s in reading only, good enough to not have lags in view anything. BTW, I don't like Sandisk.
I have 1 extreme 64G rated as 45MB w and 45MB r.
Normal usage does not seem to have any difference. But it helps a lot when I move stuff in and out of the card. I can achieve 27+MB w only though; but 41MB r
I have this exact type of microSD and I love it. I think this is exactly what Z1 also loves.
