So, i was googling about htc one sim unlocking, and i came across a youtube video with a link to a program which generates unlock codes. Normally, i would consider this fake, but it has an overwhelming amount of thumbs up and even all the user comments are good.
On a side note, I thought that these comments would be from fake accounts, but i checked a few of them out and saw that they had recent activity from the past few days.
So i decided to download this program, and it came in a .rar, locked, with a text file stating that the developer put alot of work into the program, and in order to get the password for the rar you would need to complete a survey. The thing is, i can never get past those survey things, i complete 1, 2 or 3 and it still tells me to complete another survey. I dont know if its just bs but ive heard of people actually getting past the survey and downloading the file.
This is why i decided to post here, if people are willing to download this package and attempt to answer the survey and get the password..and you should know the rest. It could be entirely fake, but honestly i would need to hear it first hand from someone that successfully tried to use the program.
Heres a link:mod edit: removed
this prolly goes without saying, if someone does get the password, please post it here

Or you could just contact the carrier whom the device is locked to and request the unlock code....takes anywhere up to a week (mine took 3 days), no faffing around with websites, and 1,000,000,000% guaranteed....mine was locked to O2 UK and I now have a Vodafone UK SIM in it.

That would cost me 150€ and thats a hell lot of money. The Websites cant find a code for me so I would be rather happy if something like this would work.
If your carrier won't unlock it whilst in contract, they suck, if they also changed the code, they suck more; you're out if luck.

Ok, after frustrating calls to O2 who finally deceided to tell me they didnt know hen they would have the HD2 in stock I cancelled and went in store and got one today! LOVE IT!
Whats the benefit of that unlocking link?
As soon as its unlocked you can , obviously, use any sim card in it...
Silly noob comments removed
Seriously suggest you take the advice to read as theres just so much stuff to try out you'll probably end up duplicating your efforts as most of the cooked ROM's will already include any of the tweaks you're likely to try and going crazy with the mods can have an adverse impact on stability. As a first port of call for a must have grab a file explorer and a back up utility (if you haven't already)...
doesnt need to be unlocked to flash roms. sim lock and rom lock aren't connected.

The benefit is that it's free and allows any sim from other providers.
Most HD2 owners need to pay around £20 for this. It may not directly benefit you at this time but it will some day.

Count the digits. the IMEI only needs to be 16 digits, but several people (myself included) have found that the hd2 displays a 17 (or 18 one person said) digit imei. KNock off the last digit and try again.

I don't know, but I just submitted about 20 made up ones, all with a temporary email address.
It would be a shame if other people did the same
What they do is to use your real IMEI in a Phone, probably a knock off of apple, htc, nokia and so go on. Fake mobile phones ; )
Any luck? if true it would be great. I don't know why though I think it is some sort of scam.
So?
So what's the big deal if they use your imei in some fake phone? Are there any ramifications for the owner of the imei

Other than the system will not let duplicate IMEI's work at the same time, so if someone clones your phone, you could end up with a non working phone ...
OR the worst case , it does let them on and they get your calls and vice versa ...
So legally I don't think it would hurt the original owner, but could end up hurting in other ways ....
May be they need personal emails, not imei nubers.
For fishing, hacking and ...... etc.

hi. could you please tell us, how one can do the same, without having an actual t-mobile number (without signing in to their site)?
Will appreciate.
Doesn't T-mobile have a web chat on their support page, and I think you can just get an unlock code that way, provided you've been a customer for a year or something like that.
I read they will actually request the unlock code from HTC. I did it 3 weeks ago and I got the unlock code in the next 24h so I believe it is reliable although not instant if you're a TMO customer. you might as well try to contact HTC if they have a customer service in your country.
My problem was then that my phone never asked for the unlock code so it happened to be useless. I don't know if it's because I have a custom rom on my phone or what but it never prompted me for the unlock code although I followed the steps they recommend (shut down, insert different sim, turn on...)
These "pattern lockout please help" threads are the worst attempt at recovering stolen phones. Its obvious thw thieves create multiple accounts on xda, Then reply with things like "this is happening to me too" It supposed to build their credibility by creating small layers of trust. Its to make you think "Oh, well if multiple people are having an issue, maybe this is just another failure in the long list of problems."
I wouldnt be suprised if they start pm'ing people who attempt to help.
The bottom line is, this is a weak attempt to socially engineer you to break the law by helping them break the law. We all know that if you forget your pattern its easy enough to recover from it. My son locks my phone once a week from incorrect pattern entry. With my G1 it was married to one google account so i was forced to recover via gmail. Therefore if they are the true owners they will have no problem recovering.

Bump. Sticky this.
I agree with the OP, theres alot of phones on ebay and craigslist of the locked android phones. I sent a message to an ebay seller and his response was the phone was as is, but fully working. Would not go into detail when I asked him was it user error or stolen. My initial Vibrant I bought was stolen and I had no security installed. That mistake wont happen again but Please dont help the theives.
what if the person is being honest, and they are really pattern locked out, and they don't know anything about android? LOL that would suck, but I agree, lets not help thieves.
Yeah pretty much a big f you. I am a legit owner who was locked out the day I got my phone. Gmail did not unlock it so I called tmo. They walked me through a master unlock which made things worse, as now all my gmail info was deleted. Thank goodness there were people willing to help and I was able to get my phone back up and running. Its people like you who really make it hard for someone to get the help they need here on xda.

it happens, but tough ****, we can't determine the real idiots from the thieves so it's best to help no one get past the unlock screen.
(although on stock vibrant there is a known issue that the pattern unlock does not go away even if you do the right thing)
While I do agree we shouldn't help thieves, we shouldn't make such a blanket statement. Just because you get locked out of your phone doesn't mean you stole it. I've had customers whose friends tried to unlock their phone and locked them out.
But I can see it now all the unhelpful vultures on here as soon as someone asks about being locked out of their phone. "ZOMG THIEVE CALL THE POLICE, TELL THE MODS, TRACK THEIR IP, THEIR WORSE THAN HITLER!!!!"

i am not saying that if a customer brings their phone into my store i am not going to help then(i would get reprimanded for that) but online i have no way of knowing if they are telling the truth or not. when people bring their phone into the store you can usually tell if they are telling the truth or not, or you have a hundred tools at your disposal as a rep that will tell you whether or not they bought the phone and/or it is theirs
I am not suggesting there are not circumstances where everything goes wrong and you are unable to sign in using your gmail account to unlock. Wait... yes i am. If you are in this situation it is 100% your fault.
Take ownership of your phone and whats on it.
If it were so easy to circumvent 2 layers of secuirty on a locked android device... then why even have it on there.
Most if not all people looking to get around the pattern unlock are in possesion of a phone they dont own.

or they are completely retarded like 90% of my customers, there are thousands of people out there that have an android device and have no clue what their gmail password is because the sales rep set all that up for them and made sure that when they walked out the door they would have no problems. at least once a week i get customers that come in and tell me that they locked themselves out of their phone and i know they did because A) i sold it to them and set it up B) a co-worker sold it to them and i set it up C) they are old. most people don't bother to remember passwords just like they don't remember phone numbers, because technology has the ability to remember stuff for us then why the hell should we have to use our brain at all?
i am not saying that we should walk people through how to get past it, i am just stating that some people really are that stupid and can't remember unlock patterns or passwords, or phone numbers or whatever else. frankly i think even i have locked myself out of my old G1 because i changed my pattern and then forgot what is was(i changed mine once a week) just because i changed the pattern doesn't mean i stole it, it means i'm an idiot
i have also seen phones that will not let you use the gmail credentials even though you can use those same credentials to log in via computer. just because someone is stupid does not make them a thief, although being a thief makes them stupid

Overall you are correct. I deal with people all the time that dont know tech at all. The only thing I see wrong with your logic is that those type of people would not be on this forum. If the people bought the phone through a legit source they can go back to that store and get it unlocked or replaced.

Listen, there is a flaw with the fail safe of the patern lock. Its supposed to verify your google account info. It completely failed for me. First I was told I had to do it using 3G and not wi-fi. But neither worked. T mo actually replaced my phone because I got licked out
locked. They saw the error when I showed them I could log on with a computer but not with the phone which I had a receipt for.
Try it for yourself. Enter the wrong code until it asks for google verification.
Before you get your panties in a wad, why not see if there's a bug here after all.

Sorry to tell you this, tmo will not give out the code unless the phone have been used on the account for 90 days for the person that is calling in.

I saw many people doing it before, as long as they have a Vibrant that's 90 days or older, T-Mobile will give them the code.
And have we tried the SGS_unlock program from the market yet ?
Why yes, it does work, thank you for asking.
Actually, it doesn't work for me. I also tried the PC program. All failed.
I actually even called T-Mobile as stated in my first post, but they gave me a bunch of BS codes.
Last option.
There is two unlock programs from the market. Only the Galaxy S unlock by Helroz worked for me and not the SGS unlock.
Dattack what ROM are you running?
I am using the Bionix v1.2 right now. I have using a telcel sim when I go to baja mexico and the unlocking by Helroz has always worked for me. I think there is an xda thread on the unlocking started by helroz. good luck.

Not sure how they did it back then, but when I called in to unlock a phone that I have not used, they wouldn't give me the unlock code because I didn't use it with my number for 90 days. Go to one of the stores and call them for the unlock code from there. Then, if it doesn't work you can get the store manager to intervene or better yet get them to exchange the phone.

lol the store manger can't do anything about a subsidy unlock. Beyond that, OP seems to be ignorant about unlocking the phone, instead blaming faulty codes on someone else.
When an official subsidy is filed, it goes to an unlock team who contacts the manufacturer, and is specific to the IMEI of the device. Chances are, if the OPs code didn't work, they weren't following instructions on entering it in, or never provided accurate info for the unlock.

** UPDATE 8: April 1st ** Looks like it's all over folks! No one has successfully unlocked in the past 5 days or so. I've received a number of private messages from folks getting refunds (and some were unprompted) with notes saying "the service is over".
** UPDATE 7: March 31 *** If you look at pages 60+, there are now reports of people having trouble doing the unlock process. Please wait until we see more successful unlocks that were initiated from March 30th onward before sending any money!!
** UPDATE 6: March 25 *** Lots of people continue to have great success unlocking their bootloaders. I've seen another method used by many, which is to send an paypal money order directly to an email address found on page 10 in this thread along with your IMEI number. A number of folks have had success in less than 24 hours getting their codes.
Also, a huge thanks to KidJoe on page 40 for this great of FAQ answers. If you have questions about what this will or won't do to your phone, etc, check out that Guide and drop him a "Thanks".
*** UPDATE 5: March 17th 5pm *** A big special thank to asuhoops8628 who provided these instructions on his successful unlocking which occurred over the last day or two.
These are the current best set of instructions:
1. USE GOOGLE CHROME. it is absolutely necessary for translations. When loading a page, ensure the page loads 100% before clicking Translate. If you do not wait, it will miss things.
2. Use the link to taobao.com found in this thread. The URL will look like item.taobao.com. I don't want to post it exactly, but it can be found on page 4 or 5 of this thread.
3. Translate the page and register for an account on Taobao. When registering, the orange buttons generally mean proceed throughout Taobao. You also want to use your real phone number, since they send you a text to verify your account. You do not need a real email address. Considering the state of security on the web today, use a unique disposable password that isn't used elsewhere.
4. Once you are registered, go to the main item listing, and click the untranslated orange button. It will popup in chinese for your user name and password. Enter them, click orange button
5. It will then add your item to your cart. You are going to have to enter your mailing address, I forget how exactly it prompted me, but its fairly easy to figure out with a combination of Translate and remembering the orange button means proceed.
6. Once the item is in your cart, just simply click the big orange button beneath the total price
THIS IS THE HARD PART, PAYMENT.
1. After the page is fully loaded, translate it. At the top next to the website logo, you will see a dropdown labeled "Chinese mainland version" Click this and change it to "other areas overseas edition"
2. enter your CC#, click orange button. (Consider using a pre-paid credit card, like one you can buy at the checkout counter at a drug store).
3. Let it load, finish adding your CC. Before you submit and finalize payment, it will give you the option to add a memo. In here, specify an email address and your IMEI number. After that click orange button to submit payment.
4. After it is complete, go back to the listing page, and send the seller a message. He always responded to me within a few minutes. Tell him you have paid, your TaoBao user name, and ensure he got the IMEI. He will tell you 24-48 hours. (I got my code less than 24 hours later).
5. Once you receive the code and unlock, go back to TaoBao, and click your username in upper right corner. You will see a section called "buy baby" and it should show the link to the listing. Click on that, and follow through on completing payment. Also make sure you scroll down, there is an area with 3 lines of 5 stars. I rated 5 stars for each because the great service that was provided. You do not need to enter a message. Click orange button to finalize.
6. Congrats, you are done! Enjoy your unlocked X/Maxx/Mini/Ultra
*** UPDATE 4 : March 17th: Lots of people are reporting success with purchasing unlocks after March 14th. Click to page 10, and you can read about people's success stories. Also, it appears there are 2 sellers, one of which is slightly cheaper and more responsive. However, there is no good set of instructions for using the second seller. If someone has a complete list of steps, URLs, email addresses, etc, please post a nice guide and shoot me a link. I'll give you a nice prominent "Thank You" and link. Happy unlocking!
*** UPDATE 3 : March 14 11am *** Sounds like the issues for Mr Middle-Man are financial, rather than technical. This would be good news (rather than his unlock methodology being shut down): See this post for more.
*** UPDATE 2: March 14 10am *** According to MattCropley, the dude in China said he might have more codes in a few days(?). Again, please post any successes you've had after March 13th or 14. The amount of disparate information floating around is crazy.
*** UPDATE 1 *** According to a few folks, the unlock codes for Verizon phones are no longer available.
What's a summary of this thread? A number of folks have been able to pay money to someone in China. In return they provide an unlock code that can unlock your Moto Maker X's bootloader (providing many of the same benefits of a Dev Edition device). This allows you to more easily attain root, flash a recovery, flash ROMs, install GravityBox or XPosed, etc.
**** ORIGINAL THREAD ****
I wanted to start this separate thread, as I've seen lots of information floating around on various threads. It seems like there is an unlock available (that you use with "fastboot oem unlock") that will effectively turn your Moto Maker X into a Dev Edition.
The process seems to involve sending approximately $45 to a Chinese middle-man via eBay and another website, along with your IMEI and cell phone number, and you will receive an unlock code.
The best instructions I've seen are in this post and this post . Some of these instructions were based on this earlier set of instructions.
These instructions below are from trimax84:
1. Went to the Verizon Bootloader Unlock China site: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=...id=37333625825
2. Enable Google Translate (I'm using Chrome)
3. Click on the orange button mid-way down the page (mouse-over tooltip reads: "Click this button to confirm the purchase")
4. The next page basically asks for your phone number and will send you a text message with a confirmation code. I scrolled down within the first drop-down box until the country code changed to "+1" for USA
5. Enter phone number, click the button, check your text message
6. Enter the code (numbers in the middle of a bunch of Chinese letters in the text message); click the box next to that
7. Sign up for a TaoBao account (left-hand side; looks like the right was for current members to log in - I did not yet have an account). There should be an Overseas option in here which some seem to be missing
8. I included my IMEI number in the Comments to Seller box, though you can send it to the seller later
9. Payment information - I used a virtual credit card number (Citi bank) with a fixed dollar limit and expiration date (TaoBao accepts Visa and Mastercard)
10. A successful payment leads to the confirmation page
(I used babelxl.com to translate some of these random things that Google Translate wouldn't)
That's it. Done.

Once you get your code, you can execute "fastboot oem unlock <code from China>". This post has the complete instructions:
I've counted about 20 different posts that claim this has worked successfully. I haven't tried it myself just yet.
Some people are paying via an eBay middle at this link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171131992860?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649. Here is one person's instructions on how they did this via eBay.
It seems like this is all one guy handling this process. Turnaround time seems to be 24-48 hours beginning to end. Some folks have had issues with their credit cards flagging these transactions as fraud, and have had to contact their credit card company to allow it.
Maybe others that have completed this can post their instructions and experiences with how well the process worked?
NOTE: Unlocking your bootloader will erase your data. Reboot your device and you should see "an ugly unlock icon" to confirm that your device is unlocked.
if you guys are new to bootloader unlocking you can follow my guide here:

Nice, thanks for the link. You mentioned the most important part: This will wipe your data, so backup first. If you're like me (Moto Maker X, locked, 4.4.2 OTA no root) then you can use Helium to do backups.

I also recommend pulling any files you want saved off onto a computer or push to the cloud (music, pictures, etc etc etc)
Idk of anyone has checked but the Verizon one is gone. I'm pissed I missed my opportunity. I just bought the visa gift card today haha.

Damn, it seemed to be too good to last. I'm hoping that the guy from China who was offering this was able to reverse engineer the unlock coding system, and eventually that knowledge will make its way out to the rest of us.
If people find the codes start working again, please let us know!
The at&t one still works. So maybe we have a little hope.

I don't think it matters who you buy it from. They all have to use the imei of the device to get the code.
Idk if I'll take that chance haha. One says at&t and the other says Verizon. But I see where you are coming from.. I bought the ebay one and I'm just waiting to get the bank number. I'll let you guys know how this works out.

Hmmm. I get the feeling if we can't get the Verizon one then the att is probably done too. I'm waiting to hear back from silk.. They said 48 hours yesterday. Hopefully I got my request in on time

I used this guy for my Droid Maxx....I think since its the weekend over there already they are taking a break. I dont think he is waiting to get more codes per say but probably airing on the side of caution. I had talked to him through chat and tried to ask him his method and offer to help him more and get him more business. He then responded a while later saying he should rest. Weird response but who knows....

i hope this is the case. crossing my fingers, blah blah. this guy is collecting a pretty penny on these orders considering the work involved. probably more so than any root method/bootloader bounty has ever collected.
(I posted the following early this morning on another feed. I am reposting here.)
I purchased without middleman directly from Chinese website on Wednesday at 2AM CT... I was able to chat online with seller... I received my unlock code Thursday 10PM CT. The unlock was successful on my Droid Maxx.
I wanted to purchase again for my wife's phone but the listings now say "NO SELL!!!PLEASE DON'T TAKE ORDER!!Please wait 2 days." So I waited for seller to be back online for chat.... I just asked him about the 2 day wait...
Seller: "You must wait 2 days"
Me: "OK Thanks"
Seller: "I have to deal my troubles"
Me: "I understand"
Seller: "My Alipay was frozen"
Me: "Ah, OK Good Luck"
My chat with him was at 1:45AM CT this morning (Friday). I am sure Alipay will accept your money for now, but he may not be able to accept or withdraw your money until he gets things straightened out with Alipay. If the listing still says "NO SELL!!!PLEASE DON'T TAKE ORDER!!Please wait 2 days." then I can only assume his Alipay account is still frozen.
Great writeup, thanks for posting this. What's good about this update is that it seems to be financial, rather than problems getting/sending unlock codes.
