Received a new one in the mail today, can't wait to get it going.
I'm trying to fix a hand-me-down that keeps force closing on everything. I can't even delete apps off it(I assume the NAND is bad).
I have a thread started if you have time. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41863429#post41863429
Anyway I just use the phone as a Wi-Fi mini tablet, internet, camera, notepad, everything except talking on it.
Right now I'm charging the battery and will search for a video on bypassing activation, as I don't need a data plan.
I really do appreciate your video(s) (and the quality) on doing the S-off as I am having problems with step #32 and yours worked as described, it was so nice to actually SEE somebody making it work. :good:
I noticed when typing adb shell
I get ~#
And you get #
I think that's the problem as to why I can't flash the /data/flash_image I need too move forward.
Again Thanks for Quality Videos

My wife has it as a backup phone (a prepaid account is attached to it) that mostly stays in the car and my son plays with it during the car ride. Don't know whether due to the Infected ROM or not, this device runs smoother than my HTC One (CM10.1 as well) device
Excellent device even after so many years (although it collected dust for more than a year).

Mod can you please sticky this thread thanks

Is my incredible bricked?
Over a year ago, I came to alabama for a job, the boss added me to his contract and I got the HTC incredible with verizon for free. After a month I met somebody, the boss saw the bill (he was looking for more than being a good boss) and he had the service turned off in my name. For a few days I was able to use the phone through my internet wifi, than one day the phone froze, shut down and I have never been able to turn it on since. The battery was fully charged when this happened.
I believe the phone was somehow deactivated, it never had gotten wet, I even bought a fancy waterproof cover for it, so I believe the guy called and said the phone was stolen or something. I was wondering if it was now useless or could it be saved?

Thanks

busybox install fails
Thank you for the videos. Walked me right through it until I get to installing busybox, where it just hangs. I've tried three different su.zip and three different busybox installers, so I'm guessing that I'm not really rooted even through busybox installer says that i am on the main screen. I'm sure i'm just doing something stupid or missed a step and would greatly appreciate any further help.

You also need to wait. Before you know it we are going to have roms flowing out our ears. I am working as hard as I can to learn how to make kickass roms so hopefully I can release something good soon
Actually, after doing all the above, I was kinda looking for other things to do I am loving the tethering though. Thought there would be a place for apps that are not in the market.
im having the same problem. i dont know what to do with my phone while waiting for everyne makes awesome custom roms. im just waiting to figure out how to get it fully optimized with everything thats already ready for it

Get a development environment setup and write some apps! Download the GSM Kernel and learn how to compile and tune it (use Teknologic's changelog as a guide perhaps) and prepare for the eventual release of the CDMA Kernel (or even the 2.0 Kernel...what? I can dream!)! It's fun to prepare for such things and test!
Thanks Much!

Chuckhriczko, please keep up your 'good' work!
I used your instructions for rooting my hero, a little confusing but helped me to better understand linux procedures.
jjjjayd13,
Lets try to get Google maps with nav on the hero. They got it working in the Dream forum with some directions. Let me get my backup ready......
Where can i find more themes? I did the clear one and its ok, but not much to it. Also what is so special about modaco rom other than u can save apps to sd
go try out droid explorer and desktop sms...you can get desktop sms stand alone, or it comes as part of droid explorer...both took about 5 seconds to get working and work perfectly.
This is the thread I started about it

if you don't have the market, you probably forgot to/need to re-flash the google apps zip.
aside from that...you should be hanging out here -> Evo Forum
Start by looking at the [noob guide] and these FAQs.
Any other problems/questions search around in the Evo Q&A or General sub-topics and you should find what you need

I have the BlueAnt S4 and it cannot voice dial, says it needs Andriod 2.2 . Looks like the Hero will not get that from Sprint/Google, so will a rooted phone with 2.2 be able to make blutooth voice dial ? Thanks, Ted O.
Yeah a rooted 2.2 should work just fine with ur headset. I don't see why your headset isn't working fine now to be honest.
sent from my hero aosp2.2 cause aospcm7 2.3 was not as fast or stable for me.

BlueAnt states that, for the S4, andriod 2.2 is required to do voice dialing.

Yep. For four weeks.
People would write in and tell them that they were ending up with unrootable phones, and would get helpful comments back from the Unlockr that they "must be doing something wrong.".
After they were told explicitly what was going on, they never even owned up to their mistake.
I guess they didn't know what a MD5 checksum is.

[Q]Testers wanted

Ok so I know you guys here in the G2 forums already have some pretty nice recoveries but I thought I would offer mine as well
I don't have a G2 device so there's really no way for me to test out anything so I need some testers before I post working versions of the recoveries on rom manager. If your interested in testing post here or pm me and we'll go from there. I will be checking back on this thread and pm's.
Recovery features:
- These recoveries are based on Clockworkmod recovery meaning it will work with rom manager if you like to use rom manager to download various things and receive OTA notifications.
- If these recoveries are good I will be posting roms on rom manager for vision.
- These recoveries support EXT4 partitioning, meaning if you format or wipe any partitions they will be EXT4 and not EXT3 like the normal Clockworkmod recoveries.
- The UI of these recoveries are heavily modified and themed. Currently I have three versions, Green, Blue, and Red. I will be taking request on more themes.
Once this is confirmed working or not I will build and allow testing of more themed versions

oh yeah accually I wasn't compiling my own kernels back then like I am now I was just using pershoot's kernel lol. So far everything seems to be working but it's only been tested by one person so far. I'll send you a pm.
Alright I'm building the last blue version now then I should be ready to release these. Thanks to both testers I'll make sure and give you guys credit for taking your time to test these.
Thought I posted this yesterday but cant find it - so reposting
I flashed green hat recovery on Sat night and exhausted everything in the recovery menu except for sdcard partitioning -- could not find a bug anywhere. Everything worked at par for the course.
I especially liked how when the phone is off - and charging -- green hat recovery turns on -- so when Im done charging I can start off in recovery... (this was a "bug" with the older Clockwork Recoveries (beginning of v4-5) but I never saw it as a bug -- but as a feature. I hope you dont fix this!)
used all tools in reboot, confirmed this works directly from ROM Manager, did nandroid backup and restore to older build made last year, did advanced restore, bla bla - everything. No issues.
Well, let me know if you need more testing.
Awsome thanks IDK why the versions on my device still use charging while off like the newer recoveries do. Oh well I think I noticed koush mention a bug about this for G2 and how HTC charging while off is already a method that is not not compatible with the newer recoveries. Like you said the phone will still charge in recovery and reboot options are there but just kinda sucks if the led light doesn't show to tell you how charged it is.
Doesnt matter -- dont fixit please! Im trying to figure out how to make this happen on my Kindle Fire as well --- everyone calls it a bug... but its not a bug!
WOW I cant wait for this to be out! Great job! I have been following your work for a while now and am all excited! I like the idea of being able to wipe cache/data/sd ext.

Aw ok, well I guess I'll go ahead and release with the info that htc charging does not work anymore but this will still work great with rom manager. Thanks for the feedback I'll work on uploading later on today on rom manager.

Newbie wants to try and CM11 DroidX
Howdy
I've begun researching the possibility of taking my clunky old Verizon DroidX that's been disconnected from a phone# and applying a custom Rom in the hopes of improving its performance.
After receiving considerable help from @sd_shadow with getting OtterX working beautifully on my KF, I'm feeling brave enough to try something similar now.
The 1st step I've taken was to use "Android Device Drivers Install" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_KPGUMzrjU (VERY informative) youtube video by Rootjunky.com
I successfully used "How to Root Droid X & Droid 2 on Android V2.3.4" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w543XNIExWo to get it rooted - YAY.
Next is getting a nandroid backup done. I was just about to purchase "Droid X Recovery Bootstrap" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.droidx.bootstrap from the Play Store for $3 but then I noticed a wise man said "if Droid X bootstrap works for you great, but don't be surprised if it causes a bootloop"
I know that the next logical step is to be able to restore the device before going any further. I'm thinking CWM is a good way to go.
I need advice as far as which specific goal I should be shooting for as far as the best recommended final ROM based on your successes with my configuration. I really do like CM11/4.4.4 a whole lot.
Any Suggestions please?
System version = 45.621.10.MB810.Verizon.en.US
Android version = 2.3.4
Kernel Version - 2.6.32.9-g3e80c7a
Build number = 4.5.1_57_DX9-10
ERI = 5
PRL = 52826
Thanks in advance for reading this and possibly even considering to point me in the right direction.

Do not use the droid x bootstrap from play store, it was designed for froyo not gingerbread. If you would like to buy one pick droid 2 or 3, but the modified one in the op is best.

I used the modified droid x one not the modified droid 2 lol it worked but if left on stock it made it to where every time device was powered on it went to cwm and had to select reboot to get into stock system. Once I flashed a ROM that stopped happening tho.

Booting to cwm error, is common using any of the bootstraps, with the dx, d2, and d2g

I've only ever owned the droid x and used modified DX bsr but I never stayed stock for long the reboot to cwm I was talking about was on my sister's DX and I noticed it briefly on mine when I was on stock (one of those rare occasions)

Shield Tablet Open Source Factory Preinstalled

This is compiled from Nvidia's source using instructions found on this page Link
You need to have an unlocked bootloader and adb/fastboot.
Be aware this does not include any of nvidia's apps or google's frameworks/play store and is just plain android with no extras. (If someone can pull from their /system it may be helpful). I will try to add more later, but this should at least get any bricked tablets going until nvidia released a factory image.

Run flash.bat while unlocked/ screen on(if your computer hasn't been approved for adb yet), or while in bootloader.
Or flash each file in fastboot, instructions are in the nvidia link if you need more.

You'll have to root and push a gapps package into your root directory. We don't have a recovery unfortunately.
precisely...
yeah I normally just slap it in the sd card then boot into twrp and flash away but it's kinda hard at the moment. and even stock recovery is upside down and wont get past the android icon no matter the button combo. lol im SOL.
Pretty sure I received a Lemon Tablet though out of the box. Wifi Was really choppy, but then I factory reset it and wifi was just completely gone. but this reenabled the wifi...thank god. but no playstore/google account is a huge bummer! lmao
I appreciate the fast response though man! I'm not stupid with android, but dummy stock makes me scratch my head. I can throw adb commands all day but I just cant push install them for some reason...maybe im just rtarded
I had some issues just pushing too, try using these commands.
Code:
adb root
adb remount
(from inside the extracted gapps folder)
adb push system /system
WORKED!
Thanks man! Went perfectly smooth! I forogot about pushing the full folder like that. Havent had to do it inna while but yeah man it went smooth as day! Thanks! now to just wait for the factory img...lol
BTW do you know what I have to rename the tablet under about device to make it look as the shield tablet to the playstore? I was using grid when the wifi crapped but I cant use grid as it says my device isnt supported.

I'm not sure exactly what it needs to be changed to, if someone could get a dump of the stock rom it would help. I tried to see if someone could get me a dump, but I've had no luck yet.
I hear yuh. Yeah I'm no help onna dump at the moment. If somebody could post even a screen shot of their about tablet I can rename the stuff directly. I use ROM Toolbox Pro and use the build prop editor. You just rename the builds to the stock nvidia one and you should be golden as the play store reads it as stock nvidia android...I think...I had to do it with the kindle fire back in the day to make it look like a Nexus 7.

Yes, you should be able to change a few things to make it work. I think most of what you can se is cosmetic and you'll have to change the ro.build.fingerprint too if I'm not mistaken.
shield tabletiers
Hopefully someone who is rooted/stock is willing to send us some screen shots. I actually kinda prefer this build over the stock nvidia one...its a lot faster. Theres absolutely no lag...granted I use sd maid/unlocker, fstrim, and nova. But so far this rom has been great. And you cant beat that barebone feel of android! Although the nvidia optimizer is there its unavailable through the settings menu. You can tell how stuff is like in there but hidden. Theres pros and cons to both. I just need to get the right build props to make the playstore see this as the shield tablet. Youve been a great help bub btw I appreciate it.
It just sucks that my first experience with the shield tablet was a bad install of android out of the box? Thats the first time ive ever had a software related wifi failure. The only other time was eith my droid 2 back in the day. LOL
Btw Other Shield Tablet owners, this is the screenshot I need from YOU so i know what to change my props too. Im using rom toolbox pro, but the lite version allows adjustments too. All I need is the screenshot! Much appreciated!

I noticed what was wrong, after changing like 20 lines, including the fingerprint which SUCKED! The one that I needed to change was the ro.product.build!
I had it, just by guessing at SHIELD TABLET, and while my gf and I were lookingat it I randomnly noticed that it was SHIELD Tablet, and not SHIELD TABLET! I REBOOTED AND IT WORKED!! YOU SIR, ARE AWESOME!! I appreciate the help!! And Keith, when you built the img's I noticed you put your name in them? You should just change that one line to SHIELD Tablet, and you'll basically have you're own rom with the playstaore recognizing your tablet as the Shield Tablet! Thanks guys, a million!

It automatically uses the user name @ PC name when you build from source. Good to know

Oh! No big deal! Your name is still all in it. Its just the one line, I assume, thats seperating the playstore from recgonizing it as the shield tablet! Lol
This build has external sdcard issues. My 128 GB SD card shows as damaged, every other ROM with sdcard support (including stock) works fine. I'd love to be able to use a pure android build on the tab, any chance of making another build?
EDIT: seems to have issues with exfat formatted cards, works fine with sdcards formatted as fat32 ?
