[Q] [q] aborted installs - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Why some ROMs work and some fail to install and abort ? I've redownloaded several times and still get the aborted install . I've searched and did all the trouble shooting that the threads I've found had but without any luck .
Any advice would be great thanks .

What is the fail message? Are the failed rom installs stock roms, aosp or both?

Both type , it says installation failed , aborting install and shows the dead android in cwm . some ROMs just install with no problem.
So far , shostock didn't , bean stalk, revolt, clean, and a couple others .
Ones that work is cm10 nightly, slim, task, mint, PAC, and maybe another one or two .

Check the md5 of the downloaded file to make sure it was a good download

Will do , but how do I check the md5 ? I'm Google n it now, didn't know I could check a download md5 .

Did you have these same issues in twrp? It appears you're having problems flashing stock roms.

Yeah it was doing it too , I'm trying to check some of the files but I'm not sure what I'm doing yet still going at it now , I also just re downloaded the clean rom and still fails

I actually also experience a rather shaky flashing experience, both with CWM and the TeamWin openrecovery. What I find tends to work is to format /system (it seems that the system partition fails to format or something), possibly also rebooting afterwords. There is nothing wrong with the file, but on occasion it just fails to flash, often with a reference to "could not mount /system" or something of that sort.
Using a PC to sideload the rom has also been very helpful if it fails multiple times, but don't ask me why.

You can check md5 with a file explore like ES File Explorer:
Find rom on your phone and longpress on it and go to properties. Usually it will say something like Show Checksum, then select md5
You can also use adb:
cd to your adb folder and type md5, then a space
drag your rom from your pc download folder or where ever it is to the space to right of md5. hit enter

What carrier are you with? It would matter, because if you are trying to flash, a loki'ed rom on a unlocked bootloader, I have seen that message also.

HELP! Getting an error trying to flash 2.5.1.4!

Same thing happend to me this morning. it was weird cause before that i was flashing it fine in order to use CM7. I tried reboots but still nothing. I then just flashed ICE and used the rom manager from the ice Rom and it worked. I was able to flash 2.5.1.4. Try that.
I'll give that a shot, thanks!

Same thing happened to me yesterday.
Check the clockwork/download/mirror1.kanged.net/recoveries folder on your SD card. Is there a .img file in there called recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.4-glacier.img? If it's not in there that's why you can't flash it, because it can't find the file.
Not sure why the file was missing from the folder.. but thats what it turned out to be.
You should be able to download the image from: http://phones.crackflashers.com/glacier/recoveries/glacier-cwm3src-2.img
Or you can get the file already named correctly out of this zip: http://goo.gl/nZJ7U
But you'll have to dig for it to find it.
then rename it to exactly "recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.4-glacier.img" and put it in the folder. It should work then.
shortskoolbus it makes no diff. Now if you were missing the file then it would give you this error message "No legacy recoveries found, Are you connected to the internet?" and if you do have the file then it gives you this error message "An error occurred while flashing your recovery."
I was trying to install new OC kernel and came across this as I originally thought it maybe linked to ClockworkMod as some folks in thread reported installing kernel without wipe cache/davlik. So I try to update it to 3.0.0.5 and it was successful but without result so I had to manually install 3.0.0.0 via console.
As I posted it originally on Q&A section when it happened none had issue and now everyone is having issue, POS I can't even access Dev thread as its says I need 10 posts when I have more I can't post it.

its not just you, everyone is getting this error. Youll need to flash cwm 3 through fastboot or terminal emulator if you want to go to CM7 or MIUI until TrueBlue_Drew gets it fixed and releases an update.

Actually I am not sure what you are talking about OptLynx. What shortsloolbus said is 100% correct. If you are missing the image or it is in the wrong place it does not give you the "no legacy recoveries found" error. It will just say "error flashing recovery". And the reason it worked when people switched to a old Ice glacier rom is because IG isnt running the latest Rom Manager that has now changed the location of where it keeps the recovery images.
See my thread here for the new zip that places everything in the correct place. http://goo.gl/O5SlI

How to get ri of CWM 3.0 without odin???

At work and cannot download Odin to my machine. Rom Mangager automatically updated me to CWM Orange and now I cannot flash any zips as I get the "Please switch to edify scripting" error message.
Any idea how to resolve this without using a computer?
FYI - Running SC 2.6
Thanks!!

Just scroll down to the bottom of ROM Manager and look in All ClockworkMod Recoveries for an older version. Personally I don't use ROM Manager right now but I think that should do the trick.

I have the same issue and I tried doing this, but when I do, I get an error saying
"error downloading ...."
+1 thanks to anyone posting the answer to getting the 'error downloading...' message to go away.
Not gonna lie, using Odin was easier for me in this case.
Fixed my own issue by using Odin; I know that doesn't solve the OP's issue.
You do need to do the deletions that iwasaperson suggested.
Ensure that you use the zip file located here.
I don't know how you would install this though; might be able to rename the extenzion *.zip to *.apk
If the above works for you - you're in the clear; if the rename doesn't work, it shouldn't do anything. Remember if you're in samsung recovery, the only option is to install update.zip - so the rename may work that way.
In case you didnt already figure it out, or for anyone coming across this thread, i had the same issue and found post #55 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021&page=6 worked for me.
Never could get RM to download an older version of CWM.
ignore post
Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with rom manager anymore. He obviously doesn't care about his Fascinate customers so I just uninstalled it. I suggest you Odin JT's red CWM. That's what I did, it's easy enough to use and you can install anything you want through it. You don't need rom manager.

Possisbly bricked Defy?

Yesterday I flashed Wajks latest WIUI and I noticed that CWM didn't work properly when I was going to flash jellyx kernel.
I got an error message saying something like this: "E: recovery can't mount /cache/recovery", when trying to perform any actions in CWM.
So I thought my SD card was the problem. But the error remained after I formatted my SD Card. So I got kind of stuck. My rom didn't work any good and I couldn't flash/wipe anything. So I flashed the sbf for my phone (Nordic) and now my phone is in a bootloop. I've tried to reflash sbf but I'm still getting the bootloop.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
EDIT: Managed to fix it.

So what did you do to actually fix it? I've been trying to figure out how to get out of a bootloop for 2 days now and haven't found any concise info to help yet. Most responses are with using Odin but I'm on mac so have been trying to use Heimdall but every time I try to load the .tar.md5 file it gives me and error "Tar header contained invalid file size". I've downloaded the fil multiple times thinking it may have gotten corrupt but still the same thing. Tried other files just to make sure and same thing too. :crying:

My friend this is Motorola Defy forum.
Please post your question in your device forum as you may not get any help in here.

I had the same problem. before you do anything in cwm, try to mount the data and sdcard first.

willai was right. Some older cwm does the automatic mount but recent cwm does not, and you need to manually mount it..

CM10.1 Installation: Status 7 Error

Hi all, I just got my Nexus 4 & Im trying to install CM10.1 on it.
I rooted it using this guide: http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-4-rooting-roms-hacks/224861-guide-nexus-4-unlock-root.html
After that I did this exactly:
1. Downloaded CM10.1 & Gapps from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020859
2. Copied both to the /sdcard directory
(3. Downloaded ROM Manager when doing the CWM Method)
3. Downloaded TWRP Recovery 2.3.3.2 (Or CWM Recovery 6.0.2.3. CWM didnt work so I tried with TWRP)
4. Booted with TWRP (Or CWM) through fastboot: fastboot boot recovery.img
5. Wiped Cache + Dalvik Cache + Factory Reset
6. Loaded .zip file (CM10.1)
When it starts both TWRP & CWM say
Code:
set_perm: some changes failed
E: Error in /sdcard/cm-10.1-20121227-NIGHTLY-mako.zip
(Status 7)
A quick search told me that the "Status 7"error means that the ROM is not compatible with my phone, But I have a Nexus 4 so it should work?
Havent seen anybody else with this problem so Im posting it her, Hopefully you guys can help out?
PS: USB Debugging was on, I tried wiping ALL the data & Pushing the CM10.1 through ADB.
I installed CM10 on an LG p506 Thrive some weeks ago, That worked.
I bought the phone 2nd hand when it had CM10.1 installed already, Then I returned to stock using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Everything worked but I decided to install CM10.1 again (Liked it more) but I keep getting that error. Reinstalling Stock JB always works fine.
Might be a bad download? Did you try downloading again and using that?

Downloaded it over 5 times... After hours of trying I just deleted everything & Started over, Redownloading everything.
Got the same results.
Im thinking of jut wiping EVERYTHING with TWRP right now, Reinstalling Stock JB (For the 10th time) & Restarting the whole process, But I fear the same thing is going to happen...
Been trying this all day & Its always just giving the same result.

Did you verify it's MD5 Hash? Download HashTab (google it) and verify it with the website.
Bootloader is unlocked correct? (Verify it.... bootloader mode should say its unlocked, and "Google" splash on bottom should have a lock)
Try flashing JellyBro (found in Android Dev forums) same thing as CM10.1 but with cherry picks.
when you mean "load" you are flashing right? (install)

Looks like all the 6 downloads had a different MD5 hash... Decided to download again for no reason, Compared it with the site hash & Bam, Perfect match.
I dont know whether to be happy about it matching or be pissed about the 6 others that dont. Honestly Im just frustrated by now...
Im still in the TWRP menu right now, Can I simply push the CM10.1 through ADB to the sdcard & Then install it?
That way I dont have to restart EVERYTHING again...
EDIT: OH MY GOD! It worked!
I love you Mr.Sir, I love you so much! Im so relieved now, Ive been trying this for 6+ hours!
Im not used to downloading a file & Getting another so I didnt consider any checks, Seems like I will do so for every "sensitive" file like this now.
Thank you alot, YOURE AMAZING!

No you're amazing for working your butt off trying to resolve it and then when you weren't able to resolve it you finally posted. Unlike most users, they ask for help right away PLUS you didn't use the toolkit. Huge kudos to you sir. Plus you're a new member, welcome to XDA as well. Off to a great start
Very awkward that you redownloaded and all of a sudden MD5 hash matches lol, HashTab only checks hash. It's weird how your computer had different MD5 hashes, mines are always identical so I stop checking. At least the recovery didn't flash it, otherwise your phone would of been in a messy spot. Only things I check for MD5 are if im updating radio or bootloader.
What browser are you downloading it on? Try downloading from other browsers if it doesn't match after two redownloads. Did you download the same file or did you try the Jellybro alternative I suggested?

[Q] Error "unable to open zip"?

Hey guys,
Every time I try flashing a different rom via TWRP, I keep getting an error that says "unable to open zip". I've tried 3 different roms and I am getting the same error. I've even tried using CWR and it's the same deal. Can anyone lend a hand?
Checksum
Start with the basics. Download the app md5 checker and verify that your download is %100 perfect.

Couple questions......are you downloading the zips via phone or computer? Also, are you trying to flash these from the internal storage or ext sd card? If you are trying to flash via internal storage move them to ext sd card and try flashing.

Have you renamed the file? I found that renaming the file can break the md5 checksum. If that is the case try renaming the file to something simple with NO spaces in the name. This has fixed a few backups that were not working for me. Good luck. Don't know if this will help.
