What's a good 2G/3G/4G toggle app - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I just want to know if there's an app that will change your data to 2G when you're screen is off or when there's no data. Or at least something similar to that. The only time the phone toggles to 3G, 4G or HSPA+ is when you receive an email, browser, etc. Thanks for the help.

App? I just use the QuickSetting panel (note screenshots, I don't have network button on there currently, but its a tile you can add)

PS: far as an app to do it based on behavior (ie: when screen is off). Look at Tasker in the play store. (though *when* you receive an email doesn't make much sense cuz it would already be downloading it before it'd switch modes, and emails don't need 3G speed).
Or if you're using a custom rom, check to see if Profiles will do it (common in CM based roms).

"MyModes"-like functionality on Vibrant

Is there a way to make my Vibrant change "modes" based on location and time like the MyTouch 3G Slide? I mostly just want to be able to change the ringer mode, for example to make it silent when I'm at school.
Please post questions in the general section.
There is an app called locale in the market.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
locale is based on you GPS and or Network location and depending on how you set it, it will mute vibrate or ring... Its great program.
I recently got a Vibrant, I'm coming from Mytouch 3G slide. The one thing I need is the mymodes feature.
I looked at the locale suggested above from the market but its $10, can anyone suggest anything else?
There used to be a free locale. There's also tasker, cheaper and more versatile. I don't know of any fee ones, but tasker has a trial version you can download from their web site.
PhoneWeaver does exactly what you want, and more. I have been using it for quite a while, and I used the MyTouch Slide for a while, and the features and abilities of PhoneWeaver are superior to those of MyModes feature in the MyTouch. $7, but worth it.

Profile changer....free and works great....

Tasker is by far the best I've seen, it also adjusts for many many more scenarios

+1 for Tasker, although it has a learning curve to it (unlike Phone Weaver and Locale), but its functionality is far superior.
thank for the info guys, downloaded tasker & ya has a lot of options to choose from.
Going to play with a few of these & see what happens
I just need something to change my ring tone while at work then at 5pm switch it back

NS4G we need a 4g toggle

Can someone get a toggle going for the ns4g. Please this is driving me crazy having to go into settings every time I want to turn it off or on.

According to Gismodo the OS toggles 4G
"Plusses
Unlike other 4G Android phones, the Nexus S 4G has a nifty trick up its sleeve: When you're not actively using WiMax, the radio idles, conserving your battery life. When you call upon it to deliver super-speedy 4G internet, it kicks back on in a matter of seconds."

I've noticed this and it's pretty cool. As soon as you need the data it lights up immediately. Pretty nifty trick indeed.

The toggles were all made for the Evo, that's why they don't work. But, as said here, 4G isn't on unless you're using a data connection.

This makes a big difference but I can still notice a greater drop in battery life than 3g only.

Here is a temp fix, scroll down to where the creator mentions minimalistic text app. You can create a 4G icon and it will take you straight to the settings. Works good

It's not a forum specific download.
The poster (supercluver) downloaded Minimailstic Text Widget:
https://market.android.com/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext
And created a link from there that takes him to the 4G settings to save a few steps in turning 4G on and off. It's the best I've seen until Samsung releases the API for the 4G settings.

Launcher Pro has a really cool feature that lets you add custom shortcuts on your dock bar menu. Works perfect for 4G. Just create a custom shortcut that takes you directly to the 4G on/off screen inside your settings menu. Very easy.

Another nice thing about launcher pro free is it unlocks the activities options when you longress the home screen and select shortcuts. In there you will find 4g settings and doing it this way you can have the same shortcut on another launcher if you wish. As long as launcher pro is installed you have access to these activities for shortcuts even if you use another launcher

Oh I like that better.
Here's something quick and easy for now - a widget that will work with any launcher. I'll have to poke around and see if it can actually be changed via the system settings or this is something that's locked down to Google signed packages (like GPS). Everything I have found so far relies on vendor libraries (Samsung / HTC) to programmatically toggle 4G.

Pull down notification bar in every situation

Hey there,
I'm used to pull down the notification bar from any possible app (even games) on the sgs3.
I noticed it isn't possible on the nexus... Is there any mod or something for that? :/
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
its sdk functionality. if an app requests the statusbar should be hidden the framework has to do that in order to not get in the way of gestures and swipes on which the app relies. if touchwizz ignores that it would be a pretty evil abuse, something that should get them in legal trouble. i dont think it would be hard to realize but i know of no mod or rom who's got that.
Oh I see thank you very much for the explanation.
I got pretty used to it as it was really convenient checking my notification bar without minimizing my current app. (Change music, brightness , GPS etc....)
Oh well will have to get used to it then.
Thanks for the reply again

Miui allows this. I expect we'll get a miui rom eventually.
For the time being you could use this app:

[REQ][BOUNTY] Quiet Hours or Motorola Assist (Sleeping)

Looking for the simple UX, minimal UI and 100% functionality that Quiet Hours (CM10+) or Motorola Assist (4.2+ on MotoX) provide where there are no notifications, no LED, no vibration and only phone calls allowed during set hours. Both seem seem to be integrated at the system level to provide the user with minimal interruption for the set hours.
Not sure if this is as simple as pulling something out of CM/AOSP or looking at the Motorola Assist .apk or what.
I got $20 on this for anyone who can do it. If anyone else is interested, please add your pledge.
Why don't you just get an app like Llama (can be found on the Play Store) and set specific hours or locations, whatever you choose, to enable a silent profile with only calls coming thru. This isn't that difficult... simple free apk called Llama has done this for me every night since ICS.

LOTS of settings in there. Uninstalled.
If you haven't used either "Quiet hours" or Motorola "Assist", the screen shots attached show how easy it can be.
The first picture is of CM/AOSP "Quiet Hours" settings found in Settings>Sounds. As you can see, minimal in settings and it works.
The second/third pictures is of Motorola "Assist" on the MotoX. The third picture is the first screen you are given, where the second screen allows you to pick how calls are handled. Again, minimal and it works.
I appreciate the suggestions, but these two examples of what I would like to see are what I would like to see.
Before I fell in love with Tasker, I used Timeriffic, which has a super easy layout. I've also run CM, so I'm familiar with those settings, but really Timeriffic is more powerful (without being confusing)

The single biggest function I am looking for is something that allows only for calls (whether the first call or second) to come through during set hours 11pm-6am. Timeriffic doesn't recognize my XPosed framework and thinks that my phone and notification volumes are linked, where I have separated them. Unless Timeriffic can recognize this separation, I won't be able to get it to do what I want, which is to have no notifications between 11pm-6am, except for phone calls.

Here, try this. I made a Tasker app that you install and click the icon and it will set the volumes to the presets shown in the screenshot. Lemme know if you need anything changed, or want another app to revert to your normal volume settings. You dont need the actual Tasker app installed to use this, either.
