Nexus LTE hack- compatible with UK? perhaps EE4G? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is the Nexus 4 able to run on any UK frequencies? Has anyone tried it with either EE or the O2 LTE limited beta program?
Cheers

There's a massive LTE thread on here that can probably look at (and usually you're going to need an LTE sim card too).

it needs band 4 lte. if its not band 4, it wont work on the n4.

Unfortunatley the Nexus 4 LTE won't work on any carrier in the UK, even the ones that have yet to release LTE as none of them use band 4.

Ah I see, well hspda+ is more than fast enough

+ on the LTE thread, but the Nexus 4 DOES NOT need an LTE sim card. Just a regular sim card and you need to have high speed data accounted for on your phone account!

I wonder if that's where the sim card confusion came in, as you would normally show up to have it 'enabled' and maybe someone down the grapevine assumed they were getting a special sim card for it.

is possible to buy xoom in the Usa and use it in Italy

Hi, tomorrow I will be in NY for a couple of days and I want to buy a Motorola Xoom, is possible to use it outside of the Us? And if it's possible could I use my sim for the 3g connection?
Thanks you in advance for your kind reply
If you buy it here, you will only be able to use it with WiFi. It doesn't support 3G sim cards.
Sorry for the dumb question, it's a wifi only model the one sold in Usa?

No, its Wi-Fi and 3G, but it is Verizon only which has the Verizon 3G "Sim Card" built in.

no theres no Verizon sim card in it. There is a placeholder for where the LTE sim card will go once the upgrade happens, however at the moment its just an embedded CDMA radio

I don't understand very well...It has a slot for SIM but only for Verizon's SIMs...?
No. It uses CDMA. No SIM card. CDMA is different from GSM and it doesn't exist in Europe.
Basically you can use it in Italy over wifi as your data connection.

In the US there are basically 2 systems:
1- CDMA which is used by Verizon (xoom). There is not chip to be attached by the user. However the Xoom has an slot for the upgrade to 4g and that is the slot that you see in the tablet.
2- GMS used by other carriers and the standard in the EU.
You can use the xoom in Italy as a wifi only.
i want to change the system software in Italian of my xoom buyed in US on amazon...how can do it ?
Were the heck did this thread come from?? XDA members have people so afraid to start new threads this guy piggybacked this one.

[Q] 3G/HSPA card in LTE device?

I have a slightly stupid question that i could not find a definite answer...so here goes
if I have a 3g sim card (HSPA bands..850/1900)...can i pop it into an LTE device and i would just get HSPA speeds?
Specifically, for any canucks reading this post, *if* i bought a RAZR from rogers (assuming that i cave in and can't wait for confirmation of when and what price the galaxy nexus will be released here in Canada) which is LTE enabled, can i just take my sim card from my milestone and put it into the RAZR after it's unlocked and i will get the same speeds as i did with my milestone and everything else will work the same?
thanks...
I highly doubt it.
The Bird is the Word
The SIM card has nothing to do with the network speeds. Your device must have the correct bands to use a different network service. It depends on whether the RAZR has the radio hardware to use your network's "fauxG" service.

I'm using an AT&T sim card on an unlocked Motorola Milestone since I have unlimited data plan for $15/mth. Can I transfer the 3g sim card to say an unlocked GS2 Skyrocket and get LTE speed (provided I'm in LTE territory)?

As mentioned, the SIM does nothing to limit your network selection. The only thing the SIM does is perform a handshake with the cell tower. Your device and carrier plan determine what speeds you get. If the Skyrocket supports 3G and fauxG on AT&T, then that's what you'll get. If the device doesn't support it, then popping in a SIM card isn't going to change the radio hardware.
please help me
hi i have bought a rogers unlocked htc raider and now i m trying to use for bell lte sim but it shows only hspda on network it is not connecting to lte plz if someone can help me i will really appreciate .thanks in advance

Do you have LTE menu option on your One? (not EE customers)

I am on Three UK, and although LTE is not rolled out yet, I was surprised that the LTE menu options do not appear at all. For example, why wouldn't I have this option in case I roamed to a foreign country that provides LTE to roamers.
In the network options I only have
WCDMA only
GSM/WCDMA auto
I know those on EE have another option for LTE.
Supposedly LTE and 3G SIMs are the same. In fact Three will provide free LTE access later this year automatically and without any administrative changes.
Could others confirm, if they are not on an LTE network, whether they see the LTE option on the phones network settings?
I think the phone only shows the option to turn LTE on or off if it detects LTE on your network so it should appear automatically once Three launch LTE
I agree! I decompiled Settings.apk of the HTC One and the network selection option uses RadioInfo class to determine what should be shown on the menu. In fact I can even see CDMA & EV-DO there.
Excellent. Perfect answers. Thank you. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that it was based on the SIM provisioning. I should have realised that it is based on the capabilities of the network you are currently connected to rather than a provisioning option.
I have LTE option on mine, got it on vodafone contract from p4u though the phone is sim free/unlocked.

No. LTE bands in the US are way different compared to the LTE bands all around the world. I'm not sure about LTE Cat 3 though.

In reviews I keep seeing HSPA and LTE versions, which led me to believe there are models without the chip needed for 4G.
There is no answer on this though so I'm not going to rush to buy one until I know.

Do you have any other sim(Must not have LTE on it's network) you could try inserting?
GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto
SIM-free from p4u using Vodafone Italy SIM, in an area not LTE covered
Oh crap Now that looks like a sign that it should have LTE option nomatter what sim you insert.
By the way could you tell me what's your baseband version?

It´s not depend on the SIM/Provider i think

Purpose of Sprint SIM card??

What exactly is the purpose of the Sprint sim card? I went to Russia and got the phone unlocked by Sprint, put in a Megafon gsm sim when I got there and accidentally allowed my Sprint sim to get destroyed in the washing machine. So when I got home I expected my phone to not work, but I figured I would switch it over to CDMA just to see what would happen and it works perfect! So I am confused as to why the Sprint sim is even there, is it just a dummy card with no real purpose?
The SIM is for LTE service. CDMA will work without it.

Dang! Is it really that much? Not only is $50 many, many times what it costs Sprint to procure the SIM card (which I would guesstimate at less than 50 cents a piece), it is also a lot more than what the other US carriers charge for a SIM.

I thought the purpose of the Sprint SIM card was to enable Sprint's Worldwide services. Where does it show you need a sim for LTE?

You can ask Sprint (I wouldn't count on the clear answer though) or just get to the LTE coverage area, Sprint stores have LTE 4G and pull the SIM out to verify that you cannot get 4G without it.

The primary purpose of the SIM card in recent Sprint phones is to provision LTE. While previous Sprint LTE Android handsets did not have a SIM slot, they still had a SIM, it's just that it was an embedded/soldered/non-removable type of SIM card.
If you take the SIM out you will not be able to register on Sprint's LTE network.
dont need sim

Are you sure about this? When running a Verizon ROM on sprint without the proper tweaks, you will get am error about LTE not being able yo connect because it doesn't detect a Verizon sim card. 3G works though.

i will when in a 4g area. i am not sure how to show the sim status at the same time as it is not displayed. Since you dont believe, you can contact radio shack in the twelve oaks mall in novi Michigan. They do not have sprint sims and I was in shock when they actually activated the phone because I was thinking I would need to go get a sim card, but it is not needed.

using AT&T phone with T-mobile SIM card

Would it be a problem using the AT&T branded SGH-I337 sim-unlocked phone with the T-Mobile SIM card here in the States?
I was told at T-Mobile store today that the voice calls and SMSs should be no problem, but mobile internet would be a big issue.
I don't know whether it's worth or even possible to reflash the phone with T-Moblie firmware.
The reason being I have 1 bar or signal at home (or even less when it rains), regular phone with international SIM card does not even pick up ATT - T-M only...
They gave me free ATT 3G MicroCell - got the full bar but in the weak areas other party still hears mostly distortion.
no,it be a problem, i bought my GF a T-Mobile unlocked S4 model M919 and she uses it on LTE here in canada all the time. Rogers and ATT have very similar networks so NO, it would def not be a problem

What are the things you need to do? Thanks. Trying to do this now.
It will work regardless. But if you want to make it pick up all of tmobiles bands you need to unlock aws.. I did it yesterday. Worked fine without it but works way better with it... Didn't take long and was easy. Just follow the steps
FYI you Dont need tmobiles firmware. You just need your phones frequency's unlocked so its more compatible to T-Mobile. Att uses 1900 frequency and T-Mobile uses 1700, 1900 and 2200 I believe. Atts phone dont have the other frequencies unlocked without you doing it
