Maybe check the stickies in the development section. Also if you don't know the basics of getting around the command line, adb, or shell scripting, you may want to take baby steps, rather than just try to cook up some roms.

Did you search for "how to build android rom from source" or something like that with Google before asking here... I think not because there are many guides about that. I think learn start by searching by yourself.
Yes I searched. Not many guides or videos. And no need to be a sarcastic asshole..oh wait.. this is xda.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm not sarcastic, which ROM do you want to build ?
Sorry. Just really trying to find a good tut. I do a lot better with videos but OK not picky. I just want to learn. I would like to use cm 10.1 as a base. And maybe learn to cherry pick features from other ROMs.

What tools and references do you all use to develop mods, apps, and custom rooms? I already know developers learn Java and use the eclipse development environment. I hear developers take the service.jar file and make changes to it, but what tools and references do I need to use?

Because you asked your question in entirely the wrong section.
There is a whole Q&A section specifically for asking questions and even if there weren't, the Dev section is absolutely the wrong place to do so.
OK sorry. I didn't think of the Q/A section.

I think cornerstone is the most important feature in tablet that distinguish tablet from our smartphones
So, could anyone can build cornerstone into a customed rom
And the code is opened for everybody

Not really a helpful response is it? It would have been better just to ignore.
You could try the Android Development forum.
Cornerstone roms are typically done by Team EOS, but I don't know that they've done one for the nexus.
It's not really all that helpful though when I've tried it. I prefer just using the recent apps button.

Huh? It was a comment on how many people ignore the rules of this forum and how its getting a little out of hand..
Anyways now that this is in the right section, I believe cornerstone is a dying effort since it doesn't seem to be very well optimized, i think it needs to be restarted from the ground up, also noting that the original team seems to have abandoned jt
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So cornerstone has to be abandoned.
Does anyone know that is it possible to work like the multi screen function of Note 10.1?
It should be helpful that tablet can have a real multitasking function.

Ok buddy.. All I'm saying is if he took the time he used to make this thread to read stickies, root guides and the q&a section he would be more prepared to mess around with his device with less risk of breaking it.

Welcome to the n7 forum, and boy what a welcome...... Unless you are comfortable with sending commands via adb use one of the root kits, they offer more than just rooting.
Not to many roms or mods to choose from, but everybody has that there on taste.
Like offers have said search and read, then ask in those threads if unsure.

wow, what a messed up welcome. this IS the Q&A section. We all have been new, most of us has messed up, even following directions.
So, Did your N7 arrive yet?
CleanRom is one of my favorites when I feel like running a custom ROM. Im back to 4.2.1 at the moment.
I think WUG's toolkit is pretty easy for a beginner.
If you really want to play though, learn how to use adb. It may be a learning curve for some, but its really easy and fast.
Of course, search is always your friend, but most of us will still be here to help out if you need it!
Enjoy the Nexus, its a blast!
Patience people .he is a virgin !!!!
Welcome to xda Nexus 7 forum and (i guess ) Newbie Target practice Zone.
I think the biggest advice anyone can give you. Is something people do not often say. Before you flash unlock root or change one app on your device. Learn the STEPS TO GO BACK. Make all the necessary backups. Follow all instructions. But only after you understand what they are doing to your device. Read The forums about the different roms . Especially user responses and comments on the different roms.
Most of all Learn your device . Learn recoverys and basic fast-boot and adb..
Backup Backup and know how to use your backup...
NOT TO MENTION BACKUP
again welcome to the fourm and please Backup read re read.. then think before you flash.

He's right. What's good for some may not be good for others. I'll suggest a few things. Keep in mind these are what I prefer:
Mskips Toolkit. I love it. User friendly and easy to navigate even if you're not familiar with rooting. Offers an all in one option (option 8) that unlocks the bootloader, roots, installs busy box, installs your choice of custom recovery, and will recommend the 3.34 boot loader instead of using the built in supplied by Google. 3.34 keeps root more reliably than others for some. Its compatible with all versions, it will buy you dinner, and kiss you goodnight.
Again, my preference but I've had nothing but success with Mskips work.

People keep thinking it's possible to port a non-released, non-leaked OS onto any phone they have, this is no different, no matter how many times you say it in the other threads in this Sailfish section, no one will read it and make another pointless thread again and again.

Released? After a long time/never.
There is no tutorial post for i9300.
Now... Can we just let this thread die? I'm sure the ROM will get to i9300 section if/when its released.

We can have so many useless threads that ....tricked yuh, made you think something new happened.

Don't go around saying what u don't know.Yes now Omni has nothing too special apart from multi window and a special performance control centre. But the rom was created as a rom and project. You think @Chainfire @XpLoDWilD @maxwen and many others will just get up and stupidly start doing sth? Those devs are some of the top and best devs on xda with both alot of experience and software knowledge any of us may never get.You want to know what is special, learn to read before posting shear ignorance.Watch videos, read blogs!Omni was launched to create and gear dev ideas into this rom.If sth new is added and works well they would then open source it for anyone to continue dev't.If they take an idea they can make it better and after publish their methods and tools for others to pick up and make it even better. If they create sth, same thing they'll publish it for others to use. They also aim at ending half baked features by using user feedback to choose what features are more relevant and what not. It's all about ideas coming to one place, becoming pulished and leaving stronger all with a user having great input. It's bare now but every rom started there even CM or your AOKP.Btw if @maxwen stops Find 5 AOKP dev't I'll see how you'll brag about AOKP for this device. He drives AOKP for the find 5 and now Omni.Do you even know the meaning of AOKP?Show respect for that!
