USB mass storage - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Is there any way to enable usb mass storage mode instead of connecting as a media device? Will the usb switcher app in the play store work? I used to run that on the S2 or tdunham used to bake it into the all in one mod.
Thanks in advance.

Are you using the stock touchwiz launcher? If you are using something like launcherpro switch to tw and connect again in Kies mode.

are you using the USB ports on the case?
for some reason this phone doesn't play nice with them try using a port directly attached to the motherboard.
Attaching the phone directly to the usb port on the motherboard is the only way i got mine and my wife's phone to connect on either of our computers
Yes she is using ADW! Man I didn't even think of that! Ill try it when I get off work and let you know. thanks for the suggestion!
Also I am using the MoBo ports

Nexus 4 as USB drive rather den MTP

Hi,
Is there a way to make nexus 4 as a usb drive rather den a MTP in windows? cos i think that the transfer is way slower via MTP.
Thanks..
Well no solution yet, but I've found something from another LG device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800935
Has anyone tried this command?
Would be great if this will work with our device though :fingers-crossed:
Maybe that will work!!!! But not sure will it cause other problems.....

Ok i just tried the command. All it's it does is unchecks MTP. If you go into storage USB connection you'll see MTP is not ticked..
I'm using paranoid Rom which is based on stock Rom and i have usb mass storage when connecting to computer. I had to uncheck usb debugging.

Nice!! Did you execute the command or is it a feature from paranoid?

When usb debugging is off and i plug the usb cable to my laptop, the pop up with options to open folder appears on the laptop like if i was using a usb sick. I don't have to do anything from the phone.

Well, I tried the command I posted above. I am running CM10.1
I wasn't able to get any kind of usb communication at all after setting the prop.
Hopefully there's a solution coming soon. MTP is quite nice, but it sucks copying media files from different folders. You have to confirm every dialog

The kindle's motherboard has usb host mode but amazon disabled it, I think it might be enabled in a future kernel.

Mount as USB storage

Hi guys. I'm trying to mount via USB instead of mtp so I can plug my phone directly into my TV and play media via USB cable.
I've tried StickMount and a few other mass storage apps however haven't found one that works for me.
Anyone know of a way to mount via USB mass storage?

did you find a solution? this is major piece of the jigsaw missing for me with the s5.
Unfortunately not, however I have a WIFI TV connected to my router as is my phone.
For now I have just been sharing my media via Wifi direct to the TV. Not sure if it actually supports 1080p but it's the best I got just now.
Google removed MTP in Android 4.1.2. It can only mount as a network drive now.
Did you try turning on USB Debugging? It might work.
Use Drivedroid app, works like a charm

USB question

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a way to hook my nexus 4 up to my CD deck in my car via usb and have it work is this possible ?

I'm afraid it won't work. The N4 only has MTP and PTP modes and a usual car radio can't handle those protocols. It would have been possible using mass storage mode, but unfortunately it doesn't support it
