Anyone else having terrible T-Mobile signal, NYC Metro area? - Networking

On the main floor of this house I can normally achieve full HSPA+ service. Today I can only get 1-2 bars on my Nexus 4. In the basement (where I usually am) I'm normally able to get 2-3 bars of HSPA+ service. Today I'm getting absolutely NO service at all down here. My whole family (whom also has T-Mobile) across a variety of phones are experiencing the same issues. I even flashed a new radio and that didn't help either which means it's probably a T-Mobile issue today. Anyone else experiencing this in the NY metropolitan area? (I'm on Long Island currently)

I know right.. Seems to be getting better by trying different kernel and radio combinations. Also resetting APN and such.

Near Orlando and I just got 4kbps down, 60kbps up and a ping of 791ms with speedtest's Tampa server. I've also been messing around with my phone trying to get my PRI updated all day so it could be caused by that.
Just a few minutes ago I had to restore a nandroid because I was getting the error 67 / invalid login messages.
Edit: Just tried again and the speedtest app said my download speed was -0kbps, somehow I doubt that is accurate
Sounds like you are having some of the same problems I'm seeing in AZ. Sprint seems to be having issues.
Have had trouble with my 3G for about ten days now. Sarasota/Bradenton area. Sometimes it functions normally, sometimes I can't get a bare bones map from Google to download. I'm on Sprint's network and I suspect the slow 3G speeds may have to do with 4G testing going on around the state. I know Tampa just went hot and the 3G speeds up there were horrendous for about 2 weeks prior to the roll-out. Whatever problems they were having seem to have been sorted out. I was driving in Tampa on Monday with no trouble on 3G.
I spoke with a Sprint rep today who indicated 4G should be live in this area by the end of next week.(Hope, hope.)
Nope, mine is running good today. Last night I went back to stock group deodexed whatever the update letter was. It's running good. Eating battery a bit more than cyanogen rc1, but I got tired of poor reception so I'm trying something different.
I'm over in Melbourne and it has been terrible all day. I'm glad it isn't just me.
Tampa here. Its been hit and miss. When 4G first hit, I could pull 5-6Mbps on 4g and 1Mbps on 3G. Now I can't even pick up 4G where I used to at work, 4G at Busch Gardens is about 2Mbps and 3G is running around 500kbps.
Definitely something screw the last 4 or 5 days.

Seems like its been slow here all week. Its not as bad as it was earlier but around eau gallie and hwy 1 it's still running at a third the speed it was before.

I'm usually home using wifi near US1 and babcock but I was up in Viera tonight and got better speeds while roaming 2g on verizon than 3g on sprint. I'm glad cyanogenmod has the "affiliated networks" option.
I live around the Tampa area but have traveled to north Florida for the weekend and the trip this afternoon was horrible for data. No data coverage from Tampa to ocala at all on I75 using my evo or the data card so I know its not a phone problem. It's the network.

I am near Orlando and it has been ****ty 3g. I thought it was my rom. I called sprint and told them i couldn't connect over 3g so they gave me my MSL number and did a restore. Now i have an updated PRI and am getting about a 1meg down. This is double compared to what i was getting before considering where i live.
Yeah, there were times yesterday I couldn't even connect. It was making my Word Feud playing and Pandora listening extremely unenjoyable.
I'm in Miami. Near the airport. About a week ago I was riding to work and when I got to work I saw that it had picked up a 4g connection somewhere along the way. Haven't been able to find it again though

4g seemd to be working ok yesterday in tampa, just the 3g was crap.....Today is a brand new day, hopefully the system has repaired itself...Lets see....

How did you update your PRI?
I don't know if he was referring to the thread about connecting you a different tower regardless of the towers provider..... But if you look around its in the site somewhere...

My phone has been awful in Ohio the last few days. I don't know if it has anything to do with the holiday weekend or what, but I have had virtually no 3g, and my phone has been roaming in places I normally have full bars and 4g coverage.
it was driving me nuts for the last couple of days... today seems a bit better now in the afternoon... but i also did a lot of stuff to it...switch from to miui, change to amon ra, prl, radios you name it lol. Now im trying to get used to Miui
same here in NW Indiana. usually have 1meg down in my house over 3g. now can't hardly ever get 3g since Friday. speed test when i did get 3g said I was getting 4k down. and I am roaming half the time when I usually never roam in my house
Its really started to piss me off. I've changed to a Verizon prl for the time being so i can use my phone. I might use this as am excuse to have them switch out my phone.
im in deltona fl and im only getting 200 kbp its slow not even worth using internet on the phone i dont know what i pay for
Nw indiana here too im getting 220k 30 miles from chicago a 4G hotspot wtf is going on? Im usually pushing 1.9mbs-2.5mbs hmm it must be a conspiracy it actually started to happen when that damn GB came out damn you GINGERBREAD!!! lol

Seems to be a Network problem. I'm in NJ and had same problem yesterday. Today all seems to be back on par.
Several weeks of bad reception in western Philadelphia suburbs. Especially in the 422 corridor (Pottstown to King of Prussia).
It's getting to the point where I am almost roaming all day (without data). Yet, according to Sprint's map, I should have good 3G and 4G service (even indoors). What a crock!
Central nj too. I have two evos and both have horrible service. But my other sprint phones don't have a problem. One evo is rooted and the other isn't.

i have had slow internet for 6 months now with my evo and evo 3d i go to other areas its good but im also in the middle of no where where no one lives
Mine has been dropping from 3G to 1X all day, then it goes back to 3G for a few minutes...their network is just completely OVER CAPACITY...and they're not fixing the tower by my house until SEPTEMBER... supposedly!

Network problems or phone?

Just left the sprint store. phone has been flakey since I got a replacement. Rep claimed sprint is having network problems in Indiana for sure and 2 other states at least. Im pretty sure he said Kentucky was one of the other states. Anyway problems have supposedly been going on for 3 weeks. For real, or was he just trying to get rid of me?

I have had issues as well. The network has become oversaturated with users in a few areas bringing the network to a crawl. You could try someone else's phone to see if they also have that issue. If they don't then you can request a new phone.
I have really slow data in my area. I'm hoping it gets fixed soon.
Soon isn't in Sprints vocabulary. Our data has been unsable since July 2010...yes 2010. Estimated fix from Sprint? December 2011!
Make sure your prl is 60680

he is not lying. Ever since the national sms outage the networks had trouble catching up. In fact, we even went so far as posting a sign on our store's door stating the issue

As the network guy told me...don't expect much done to the network until network vision hits your area. Some areas could be waiting a couple of years.
Sprint was already behind from their last network update freeze. They did a few upgrades but all the new phones ate through it. Now they are further behind than before. Network vision needs to hurry.
No kidding. At home (suburb MN) I got decent 3G speed, but at work (downtown Minneapolis) 3G is basically unusable. I am just glad I am on SERO so I don't feel as ripped off by the slow speed..
So...is it normal that sometimes my 3g will drop to 1x?

Yes. Mine does that when the 3g becomes so unusable it falls back to 1X

[Q] Bad T-Mobile Signal, Anything I can do?

So, I have a Nexus 4, and T-Mobile ($30/month prepaid). I live in the south-western part of PA. I'm in my house currently, and have full bars, no problems there.
I was at work earlier (inside), and had no signal at all. Outside I have like 1-2 bars, sometimes. I'm in the same town too, and the area seems to be in a more elevated area as well.
When I tried searching for mobile networks, I did notice AT&T showed in the list, but not T-Mobile. Perhaps this means AT&T has better coverage in my area than T-Mobile? Is there anything I can do to improve signal on my-end, like flashing different basebands? I was on the latest (.48 I think) earlier when I experienced this, but I flashed down to .33 now. Still full bars in my house, but I'll have to wait till tomorrow to verify if it actually changes anything.
I like T-Mobile, so I would prefer to keep using their service, but I do need some kind of cellular at work :/ I don't think AT&T offers anything like T-Mobile's $30/month prepaid plan either, for that cheap anyway.
Edit: T-Mobile's Coverage map shows green for my entire town and neighboring towns, for 2G/Voice.

If that don't work then call T-Mobile and ***** them out for poor signal coverage
Modem flash to .33 nor the APN settings helped; still a pretty bad/no signal :/
Under About Device, I think my signal is like -80 or something; I've seen it go higher and lower, and I still had a connection though. Any ideas?
Did you contact T-Mobile yet? Maybe they can get you a signal booster.

3G Network constantly disappearing??!?

I live in the (North Jersey) area and I notice that my phone is constantly losing 3G Data (The 3G Network Icon Disappears). It is really annoying and I never really noticed it when I had my Galaxy S3. Does anyone else have the same issue? I'm trying to determine if the problem is specific to my phone or the sprint network. Or is it a common defect with the S4. The constant dropping of the Data network makes me really dislike this phone at times.
Call Sprint first, they maybe doing network upgrades in your area
Then try disabling lte

thats what you get for living in jersey........as an ex sprint employee you guys on the east coast are nothing but a big ball of problems. i would say that 95% of the calls i took at sprint were from the east coast......

my point exactly lmao.....thats not what i meant haha but i guess it does kinda read that way lmao. what i was trying to convey is that the east coast has alot of issue with sprint and vice versa.for some reason sprint just does not work well in that area (im assuming its a population thing) but when i was at sprint it seemed like every day towers in NJ and NY were contsantly going down. sprint just has bad juju in that area i guess. dosent help with your issue at all just something i noticed in my time there.
I'm in North Jersey myself and go to NYC often. I always joke that only sprint can manage to lose data 3G or 4G in the middle of Manhattan. And yes, poor 3G sevice in Jersey as well. But it's not your phone, my old S3 did the same thing. Sprint blows, its the price you pay for cheaper service. Im currently in Philadelphia, and it is actually far worse here.
I have the same issue in Brooklyn and Queens NY. It's also bad when I come out of the subway and I can't get a data connection in some areas for 5 minutes. Plus the jumping between 3 and 4g is annoying as hell. I wish there was a toggle to turn 4g off like there was on my s2.

There is, it's just not a toggle. Settings -> connections -> more networks -> mobile networks -> network mode: change to CDMA
And yes, your issue with taking a while to get data service is very familiar to me unfortunately. It's not the phone because usually it's instant. But when I lose data, it's at the worst possible time, like when I really need to get directions in the car. What sometimes works is toggling airplane mode.
