New HDR Video. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I noticed many people (including myself) trying to figure out HDR video in the new MEA base. This thread is for that discussion. Hopefully someone will be able to give a clear answer on it and it will help everyone. So what magic must be done to enable HDR video? Is it on by default or is there some hidden setting?

thus far havent been able to do it with stock or ktoonsez kernels. how it works is pretty simple and should work ok, but should show some artifacting with heavy jello. basically it underexposes and overexposes every other scan line (not sure if it oversamples, averages, and combines from higher than 1080P res or just does so at regular 1080P resolution (most likely) in which case best quality would be found at 720P settings, as this would allow full blending.

What about faux123s new kernel? Interesting that we can't do it on the stock kernel.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app

i havent seen anyone find it yet; im interested to compare quality of 720P vs 1080P and see if my theory on transsampled scan lines is correct; its a dirty way to do it, but would work decently. HDR photo mode should work the same but it doesnt; instead any movement translates to blur (eg leaves, bugs, cars, etc).

Are you people stupid or just lazy? How bout going into the camera app hitting mode then scroll to HDR then hit the video button.

That only works for photo mode, which works totally different from video mode. i work in television and film; i took several sample clips in controlled lighting environments; photo mode does not alter video mode, in this update or 4.2.2 original, AOSP/CM, TW UCUAMDB/UCUAMDL or any kernels thus far.
watch who you call lazy and stupid; might come off a bit rude, to say the least.

Well according to this HDR video is included and there is only 1 HDR setting in the camera so unless there is another setting buried within the camera... That's it

Droid X video quality is terrible. check these videos

here is a few video clips i have taken on the DX. i am not too pleased with them. seems there is a lot of video noise going on. i have not messed with any settings. running Fission 2.2.2 and the DX Camera installed. settings are on High. seems to be the same on Youtube High but only difference is that it is limited on length.. right?
thanks for any advice. be sure to click the 720 setting......
edit... go to my youtube channel.. "tha5150" since i cant post links yet.. since im a newb
and you're expecting 1080p HD quality on the Droid X? I don't get it. What are you comparing the video quality to?
not expecting 1080 by any means.. and not really comparing it to anything i guess. just seems like there is a LOT of video noise in here. especially the one of my dumb friend trying to dance. that one has lower light but looks terrible to me. maybe i am expecting more than what i have?
is this me or not?
Im pretty sure you can change the settings for which mic will turn on when capturing a video, if not all of the mics will be turned on...I may be wrong but I feel like I remember something like when I was watching some reviews on youtube

not audio noise but video noise.. thanks for the tip though.
I looked on my phone, try changing the scenes... that may help

It was probably the poor lighting that caused all the noise. Check out my sample clip (once it's rendered in 720p)

I'm not sure what you're asking. That was on Fission 2.2.1 using the stock Motorola Camcorder app though.
Do a search on you tube for vids taken with the dx there is one of someone at a trans Siberian orchestra concert and it sealed the deal for me on buying the Dx. The video and sound looked great. You just need to play with the settings.

Huawei u8800 Video and Camera Settings

Hello,
I'm using the latest aurora ics by dzo update 4.1.1a, and when i try to configure the video and camera settings i see a lot new features and settings.
Can anyone tell me the best configuration to record [email protected](if possible) videos with the best audio/video quality and also the best configuration for the camera in order to take good photos?
Thank you in advance
I tend to use a third party app on this phone, because I haven't been happy with the results of the stock camera. There is a kick to processing time though. I think the camera is generally pretty lousy though, so don't expect great quality.

Do you recommend any app?

I like Pudding Camera for free and Vignette (paid). These only do stills though, to be honest, I don't often use the video camera. When I do I just make sure it is set to 720p.

Yes! Its got slow motion video :)

Just incase anyone was wondering it has a great slow motion video feature allowing you to film in 1/2 1/4 or 1/8 speed (I believe its actually recording in high speed and playing back in slow speed) but its smooth and decent quality and great fun to play with. It also has a fast motion setting.
Im sure you probably knew already but I just found the settings and was chuffed and thought id share it with ya.

I guess it's understandable that the Slo-Mo is at a lower resolution (gotta sample more per second) but I don't understand the fast-mo being lower resolution... just take 1080p 30fps and then play it back at 30 fps while dropping every other frame...
I'll post mine when I'm allowed (after 5 more posts, I think)
Stay tuned.

Benefist on the new Camera/Gallery app

So I just installed the New Camera/Gallery of 4.2 JB and ........... I found somthing funny and interest, when I make a recording with the original app of CM10 if I play the video on MX Payer and look in propeties it tell me that the video is 1280x720p at 11.6 kb/s and 27 fps , (sometimes 18fps) ......But with the new app my videos are recorded at 59.6 fps in 720p and 26 fps in 1080p (24fps on the cm10 app)
I´m on Sombody´s CM10 with those libs
Cheers
Sorrry for my bad english xD
upload a 720p video to mediafire rapidshare etc
i want to see if this is actually true.
10 second clip of motion should be enough

i think stock camera app is having video problems with autofocus on cm10.
Camera ICS/JB free version records at 29fps which the new camera app apparently does also
Your Stock is recording at 14fps at 720p surprisingly which is way less that usual 23-25fps
Can you do a recording at 1080p with new app im hoping we may actually have smooth recording for once at this resolution.

The links are to the sample videos... But if you type a simple query such "android 4.2 camera" into Google, what you want is right at the top.
The "Read the OP and posts" sentence was due to the fact that those sample videos were actually taken from a device running "Somebody's CM10", and that I asked previously if this thread's author was able to use Photo Sphere and in his answer it is clear that Photo Sphere does not work, but some other functions do, since he was able to shoot the videos...
Just a little bit of effort... Come on, it won't hurt... Oh, screw it. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966606

[CAMERA] Slow Motion [Q]

I managed to get some hands experience on the note 3 at work the other day but I forgot to check if slow motion play back was available. Has anyone heard of this is a feature? Or will an app or rom have to enable it?
Ps. The 2k stream via HDMI was really smooth as crystal.

This also interests me. Having 120 fps at 720p means good opportunity for slow motion videos - like on the iPhone 5s.
Is there a good video editor app in Play store that can make multi parts slow motions?

If it does, I hope it's got a better resolution than what my Note 2 has for slow mo, great featur but, looks crap on the big screen IMO.

Yeah. It's 720p at 120 fps.
I with the Note 3 could do 250 FPS at 720p. Since the Note 2 does 250fps at some low res. I guess we'll need more hp.
Thanks for the input, I'm just confused to why this wasn't mentioned or any camera features from the outset tbh. I guess the pessimist in me reckons there won't be any slow motion by default.
I would love to be proved wrong however.

The same problem
Heres a question.
Can you toggle 720 video in 120fps to be on all the time by default?
Heres my reasoning for this.
Something is going on, its ALWAYS good to be able to go back later on and play it back in slow-motion.
an accident about to happen, someone about to step on a Bananna peel, etc..
if you need to access the video camera very quickly, it would stink to have to navigate to turn on 120fps
and miss that important shot.
How do you enable the 120 fps feature?

- Load up the camera
- Cog icon top left will expand the list of options
- Icon of a videocamera (3rd from right)
- Slow motion
- Another videocamera icon appears with something like 1/4, 1/8 in the corner
- Tap and choose what you want, i prefer 1/4 as it records at 120fps and plays back at 30. The 1/8 still records at 120 but plays back at 15 i think
Thanks
