yep i have 8gb class 4 sd card and htc explorer so i created a partition ext4 of 512mb and then i installed a sense 5 ex rom but when it opens i only have 5 mb free internal storage.
whats the problem?
is the rom not installing on sd-ext?
or any phone problem?
i have followed all the steps

Better option is that you must install the ROMs from your SD-Card. So use yoou your phones sd card and not the external one..

Hello all,
I just replaced the stock 2GB external SD card with a 16GB and transferred the movie over to the new 16GB card.
I thought all the apps that I'm downloading would be saving to the external 2GB SD card, but surprisingly that's not the case? I thought by default it would save to the external storage card first.
How do I manage where I want my apps and future downloads to be saved? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
All I see under settings -> SD card and phone storage -> (it shows all the info, but only gives me the option to unmount the storage on both internal and external cards.
Also on the very bottom of that screen it shows: "Application storage...Available space...1.50GB"
Is this a partition within the internal storage on the phone where all the apps have been getting saved to?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Basically the Vibrant gives u 16GB or space, 2GBs of this is for Applications an such, while the 14GB partition is for media (music, movies etc).
When you install applications currently they will install onto your 2GB partition. Once Froyo (android 2.2) hits you'll be able to select if you want the apps to install onto your SDCard.
Once the modding scene picks up a bit more I'm sure A2SD will be available and also a 2.2 port prior to the official one.
Hope this helps!

So basically right now we can't change the default settings of it saving to the partition space on the device itself? In my mind, "...hhmm there has to be a way around this...maybe?" LOL
I can't get the phone to mount on my PC or MAC. On the phone it shows as USB storage device connected and it also displays a window for me to mount or unmount....Nothing shows on the computer for me to be able to access it...hhmm
This is all so odd because my buddy has the old Galaxy i7500 and I'm able to plug his phone in and it mounts in seconds.
The only way for me to access the card is for me to use the SD adapter card and physically take it out of the phone every time..

If i replace the 2 gig sd card with avatar on with my 16 gig class 4 should i part it with a ext 4 or just format it all fat 32 ??? I was thinking just fat 32 the whole card since the apps default to the internal mem ..
Really? Not to be a downer guys, but why is this in the Development forum? Can we move this over to General or Q&A please. Once the Development forum starts getting flooded there's no going back.

I just reformatted it FAT32 all the way. Then I transferred both movie files of Avatar and it works perfectly.

Perfecto. Thank you!
Thanks for the quick responce iunlock im formatting now ...
Also, it's best to keep as much apps on the system memory as you can. Accessing data on the SD card is slower than from the internal memory.

No reason in creating an ext partition at this time since there is not much support currently for this kind of mod on the SGS. In the future i'm sure ppl will get this mod out there, but for the time being you should be good with Fat32.
Plus installing the apps on the internal mem is the best option for speed an such.

Hi all!
I have a Legend recently rooted and running CyanogenMod. Great experience. Just starting play with and see how works.
My first problem is I put in to much rubbish during the process and just playing with new rom now want to optimize. I already have a 8 gb sd card.
how I should proced to made a clean instalation to be able to optimize as much as better and wich order shoud be done.
I gess to format the sd card and also ram from legend but...
wich is next step?
how many partitions and how bigger?
i would like to run the apks from sd insted of phone.
thanks a lot!
1Gb ext3 should be enough for moving apps too, since alot of apps won't even move, you'd have to install hundreds on the SD card to even get near filling it up.
You could always use Blayo's B.02 rom and use the data2ext to have ALL your /data on the SD card, this supposedly increases performance too.

I think you need a pretty fast SD card if your using data2ext as well for it to increase speed. Want to try, but I'm using the 2 Gb card that came with the phone

you can shrink the fat partition and add an ext2 in front using a partition manager.
I have a 500 Mb partition on a 4 Gb card and have about 300 apps installed.
with still a lot of space free.

Yes I know(you told me) What I meant was that there is a shortcut in Rom Manager to partition SD card. Don't know if that's the best procedure, but it worked for me.

Can some one tell me what happened? I've installed android to nand memory and now my sd card only shows 200 mg of space, I took some pictures and now is full, where did my 16gb go? Can someone help me find a solution? Thank you for your help.
No one knows, since you provide 0 information. You can also just check it yourself by examining your sd card in your pc.

thanks for nothing....here is the information, installed android on HD2 on nand memory like the instructions here now it shows 200mb, can someone really help me find out where the rest of the gb went?
can you link the instructions you followed to install nand? also did you partition your sd card correctly? you can double check to see how your sd card is partitioned by using this free program. if i had to take a guess it would seem you have partitioned your sd card backwards but there is little info to go by so its really a stab in the dark.
had wp7 installed before? wp7 formats all your sd card to some weird wp7 only format, leaving just 200gb as normal, readable space.

Do you know how to fix it?
format your sd card with panasonic sd formatter in your pc.'cause i had the same thing before, and solved this way.
i would backup your sd card to your computer and then once you have backed it up format it with what ever partition manager you like. i personally use minitool 6 which i posted on post 4. then place a fresh copy of android on your sd and flash as normal. dont forget to wipe date/cache/delvic. i cant say for sure if this would fix the problem but i have noticed this simple process fix some of the problems i've had in the past.

Just to expand on what this user said. Use minitool partition wizard or go into recovery mode and make an partition. I'd say a 1024MB partition and a 256 MB Linux swap will be more than enough unless you want loads of apps which will in turn slow your phone down.

Hello,
I am facing a really bad situation i have my 4Gb mem card with class 6 which happened to work like a charm on the HD2 with Sense ROM. But i happened to purchase the 16Gb class to the the ROM will not even boot up though i have tried all the processes of backup and restore new ROM install still no hope if I happen to replace the 4Gb Sdcard with the 16Gb card it does show me 14.8 GB installed with 1Gb if SD-Ext but there on the phone reboots.
Do you think i should buy another 16 Gb Card with Class 6 or some other inputs to get the 16Gb class 2 to get working. I wish not to settle down with 4 Gb when i have 16Gb doing nothing ...
I use a 16gb class 2 with a 1gb ext3 and it works fine.
You might want to reformat it and repartition it, maybe something went wrong.

It depends on the rom that you are using. I would think that a 1024mb partition with 0mb swap would work for you. Yeah you can partition it with 3.0.2.5.
