Hi, I have a problem on my AT&T S4 where even if I manually turn off WiFi it keeps turning ON whenever i try to use an application that requires data. This is very disconcerting and any help will be greatly appreciated!!
P.S. I have looked at disabling Wifi power saving via *#0011# and even though it does seem to help but does not stick through a reboot.
Do you have a battery management app installed? They often take control of your wifi

Freeze AT&T Smart WiFi. I had the same problem and never touched that app until I noticed that WiFi had a mind of its own.
Basically I found that app would just do as it willed with my connections. Even worse than some power management apps. I think it's supposed to be smart about WiFi management. It is no where near smart.

it is a third party app for sure, go the the applications area, look at all the apps that use wifi, one is controlling it now. I had they same problem a few months ago. good luck. And for grins, reflash a fresh copy of the rom you are using, and monitor it from the start. bet it is not on a new copy.

Thanks a lot for your reply, based on your suggestion I tried each app one by one and found that whenever I use gallery my Wifi turns on. Can you suggest what to do in this case as this is not a third party app that I can just delete. Also what other method can I use to diagnose any other misbehaving apps?
Thanks & Regards

Are you on stock 4.1.83, or are you rooted?
If rooted, do you have Titanium Backup installed, or anything like Bloat Freezer?
Have you tried just rebooting?
More info please.....................and go slap your friend!..............HARD!
Hello , and yes im on stock 4.1.8.3 and I dont have Titanium Backup ya c its hard for me cause I dont have a credit card to buy any apps and the free ones just dont cut the mustard I was told. Do you have any suggestions ?

Apps like Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, Bloat Freezer, etc. all require root access, so if you are not rooted, that's a moot point. Are you on AT&T? If so, you could try taking it to an AT&T store, or call customer support. Should have no issues as you haven't messed with your phone from stock.
I was having the same BT issue where it wouldn't turn on. I went through all sorts of methods to fix it and finally got it working ... been working perfect ever since. Off the top of my head, I can't recall what it was that I did, but I'll think on it and try to repost my solution. If I'm not mistaken, it was a 3rd party app that was causing the issue, but I'm not 100% on that.
Do you happen to have a banking app installed? I know that when .83 came out, the banking apps quit working and I did a work-around to fix it. I believe that was the issue. I uninstalled my fix and the banking apps. I've since reinstalled them and used Motorola's certificate installer. BT still works well.
No I dont any banking apps on the phone
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Banking apps shouldn't have affected BT. Didn't on my phone. The banking app issue was a blank screen after login.
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app
I had a issue where I couldn't turn my wifi back on (1.8.3)
When you toggled it on, it would show scanning, then turn back off. I had to flash sbf 1.2.6 to fix it, then OTA update again
Kool thanks much appreciated

No, the banking apps weren't the issue...it was more likely the mucking around that I did with the certificates that created any issue. Perhaps it was just coincidental as it happened at the same time and I resolved it after removing the certificates and banking app. In any case....mine now works flawlessly, albeit I'm not completely sure what I did to resolve it.

Other than not being ble to call 911 if needed it is my daily driver. Love it so far. There seems to be a bug with ringtones that I have noticed so I just don't use the digital ringer. WiFi is pretty stable, but no reboots, lock ups, or much of anything else other than things listed.

No.
The way things were before I stopped using it, you can either have WiFi broken, or 3G broken. You cannot have both working, and have the phone change between the two of them.
Battery life is horrible with it. 50% worse than touchwiz roms.
It is really not worth using until it is ready, and it is not near that level yet.

Neither 3g nor wifi are "broken" -- and the battery life is based on how much of an idiot you are.

Classy.
On 10-22, WiFi would cut out every now and then.
After updating to 11-24, WiFi no longer worked, period. There was a fix zip posted in the thread, which fixed WiFi, but broke 3G.
I reflashed to touchwiz at that point, as it was clear that CM7 was not going to work for me at its current stage.
Using touchwiz, I get 2 days of battery life.
I got around 28 hours with CM7.

And to think I wondered why there is so much drama in this developer community.
I have a problem logging into my goggle account. I had it set up fine when I came to cm7 (1122 build) from Acs Ics 4, as it prompted me after a clean install to login. I have since flashed the modified wifi 1122 build over the original 1122 and advance restored Data. I have now lost my goggle account login.
When I try to open the market it asks me if I want to login, yes or no. Whichever I select it takes me back to my homescreen.
So I go to settings, account & sync, add account: it only let's me create an exchange account (not sure if this is normal). I have entered my gmail account info, but it will not accept it and login. It asks for the domain and server... not sure if I can access my google account that way or not.
I don't really want to have to do a clean install every time a new build comes out and then reinstall all my apps. Doing an advanced restore to get data back in CWM is so much quicker and easier. Is there another option or remedy to this?
Any help is appreciated.

Is there an app out there that can show what is currently using wifi on the Nexus 7? I just picked up my tablet and I noticed that there is wifi activiy and I would like an app that shows what exactly is using the connection since I don't have anything running that should be having a constant connection? So kind of like a firewall but without the need to block programs. I just want to see what is using the connection
Just look at the notification bar. It is posted there.

The notification bar does not tell me what process is using the internet. The wifi icon just shows network activity. I want to know what is causing that network activity
Oh, my bad man. I thought you needed to know which network you are on. Sorry about that. In fact I've been looking for something like that too.
You could always try using the data usage feature in your settings to see what might be doing it. Go to it, wait a minute or so and then refresh it. Whatever numbers have changed in that time are the culprits.
Afterwards I'd recommend Droidwall if you actually do want to block certain apps from the internet. Assuming you're rooted that is.

BatteryGuru is officially made by Qualcomm so you would expect it to be pretty key to phone optimisation. Also it didn't require root.
Greenify had received many great reviews and the author is constantly updating which is good. Requires root however.

No real reason to be scared to root any more. We have the stock images in case you soft brick, boot loop, etc. I was worried to, but it was an extremely simple and quick root process. You just plug in the phone and your rooted after a couple mouse clicks
Also, I recommend freezing the ota applications in TiBu. Never know when at&t may send an OTA that could patch the boot loader exploit. Better be safe than sorry with this one.
Sorry to drag the thread off topic. Just thought I would throw in my $.02 after your comment on rooting. Best of luck

How does that greenify app work? Say you select all your apps, and then it hibernates them does it wake up when needed or if you get a message or notification?
The app specifically says not to enable apps that have certain notifications such as SMS and whatnot, so I would make sure that you don't do it to apps that you need to be notified.

They will wake up when you open them, then hibernate when you close them. Basically if you use it for all apps expect to not mulitask at all (looking at messages, wont recieve phone calls; looking at Internet, wont recieve SMS)
If you have to use either one you don't know how to save your battery. Get better battery stats and learn what is causing your battery drain. These apps only use battery.

Greenify uses a lot less battery then tons of bad apps running. I like using Facebook app but couldn't careless about the notifications and such. Yes I coukd go in and stop them but not all apps let me (cnet for example) so having a single place to hibernate the apps I dont want running in the background is nice.
Nobody has seen this yet? Finally available.

It isn't as though I had any problems with the tablet before, except for some occasional lag, but, except for the icons and some minor cosmetic changes, I haven't noticed anything to distinguish it from ICS.
Of course, I'm grateful that they're at least updating it. Especially since there would be so many people crying if they didn't.

The way I see it, the mobile data radio button was most handy so that I could make sure I was not using my data plan when WiFi was on. I preferred having this feature, and I have noticed a difference in the past when I thought I was using WiFi only to learn I wasn't. Maybe you don't think it was useful, but I certainly found it to be very much so. Now I have to drill down into the settings to manually turn off mobile data instead, which is a pain.
Besides, airplane mode usually shuts off Bluetooth, GPS, mobile data, and WiFi, or at least it has on nearly every device I've ever owned. In other words, from a practical standpoint: baby with the bathwater.
