nexus 4 battery - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi !
i own an nexus 4 device and i have a battery problem .
before i baught this device i read online and i already knew that his battery isnt very good , but i never taught it would be that bad !!
i barely touch the phone and thr battery keeps draining !!
my question is what can i do to make it better..maybe to replace my rom , or install another kerner...anything please help !
thanks in advanced, Orel

turn off stuff which you are not using, eg. data, bluetooth, NFC, wifi, location services;
and turn your screen brightness down as much as possible.
that's all you can do, but it should make a big difference.
also think about investing in a compact portable battery charger.

My battery life on my Nexus 4 is awesome.
Download wake lock detect to find what apps are eating up your battery.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS51enVtYXBwcy53YWtlbG9ja2RldGVjdG9yIl0.

Install a custom rom and go try a custom kernel.
DO NOT ASK WHAT ROM AND WHAT KERNEL IS THE BEST
Try all of them and see how it is for YOUR device. Try undervolting if you want to. Personally I'm running PA with Franco with a -100 undervolt. 8 hours on standby takes away about 1-2 %.

battery lasts only one dayy maximum

i bought my phone in june and i was little bit angry to see, that the battery lasts only one day by normal using it without bt, wlan and gps only sometimes internet and phone. i went to my vendor and it was sent to htc 3 times to get it repaired back, but it still exists the battery problem. now i read, that some roms are less battery catcher than other. which rom is good for saaving battery life.
thank you very much or are there other tricks to improve battery life.

TC,
Are you using stock ROM or..? I've not change my phone's ROM yet and even until today, I get 3 days worth of normal usage (I charge my phone at about 20 ~ 35% range depending). I don't use it much for anything except being a phone, occasional web surfer, and very very importantly, an organizer/calender.
Also, do you leave applications running in the background? Do you close all of em? What is your brightness setting? How long does it take for your phone to dim the screen? Since I don't really care for 3G and HSDPA (couldn't even if I could), did you set it to GSM only? Do you turn off your phone module in signals with very low bars?
My point is, a lot of factors can affect battery drain, I hope the questions I've asked might help you better pinpoint what the problem seem to be. I wouldn't be surprised if the drain is due to the phone being in a constant 0 ~ 2 bar zone.
Cheers.
hello ,
thanks for writing back so fast
no i didn´t change or updated my rom with any roms which are able to be downloaded here. my phone was updatet when i brought it for analyzing in the htc shop.
i charge it always when it has nearly nothing anymore.
i use it for the same reasons you need. i use 3g because it was written, that gsm uses more battery than 3g
i always push down programs in the background only activesync is not easy to close
...... Do you turn off your phone module in signals with very low bars?
that i don´t know what you mean by "in signals with very low bars"
i also use mort player an windows player and by using these programs the battery drains a lot
thanks

I9100 in China - Comparison (FW, battery life, carriers, stats, etc.)

Hi there,
I got an SGS2 GT-I9100 recently and I am still trying to tweak it to suit my needs.
I'd like to ask the people living in China about their stats and configuration since it seems many issues are usually location/carrier related.
My biggest problem so far is battery drain. I have noticed that whenever wifi is on, my battery goes down by around 1% every 15 minutes or so with phone in standby. When wifi is off I can lose about 1-2% every hour.
I mean, after seeing lt_ler battery stats even with stock FW, having wifi on (night usage), I think there must be something wrong with my settings or phone.
BetterBatteryStats reports no important wakelocks. CPUSpy reads what it seem to be normal Deep Sleep time.
I think it might have something to do with the wifi router. Mine is the one from China Unicom (中国联通) ZXV10 H108B (v. 2.0.0 BJ).
My phone carrier is China Mobile(中国移动).
I am using Frankenstein KK5 firmware with Siyah 2.4.2. I will be trying uninstalling different apps and then changing kernel, modem or whatever I can think of if it doesn't work.
I also get a high percentage of "Cell standby" battery use in the stock battery usage monitor, reporting "100% time without signal", although I have signal all the time at 4 bars and have no trouble making or receiving calls/sms. I think this wasn't happening before installing Siyah.
So please, people, share your thoughts, stats, settings and ideas. It'll be much appreciated. Also, if some better Chinese reader than me can find some thread/post somewhere about this on some Chinese website, like gfan, please let me know and I'll try and decipher it myself. I just can't find it...
PS: I'll try to add some screenshots later.
hi bro,
im leaving in Suzhou China area and using china mobile service also.
i dont encountered the problem as u describe above.
im running MIUI galnet ICS version with Siyah 2.5.1GT. baseband XXKI4.
on single charge (using extended 2000mah here), can last me up to 2.5-3 days using my previous roaming malaysian SIM card (no data). refer to picture.
using china mobile simcard, yield nearly similar result. again with data-off.
i dont use any special configuration js default conf from MIUI's rom.
have u tried different ROM?
Thanks, mate. I might give MIUI a try, since it is Chinese after all, I just wanted to stay close to stock for now.
Do you use wifi?
no prob !
yeah did use wifi in hotel. but only ON when wanna use. if not i turn it off.
at night also i turned it off.
yeah, u should give MIUI a shot. pretty nice and neat. since used it dont wanna use standard TW's rom anymore. hehe
but prepare to have few disadvantage as below:
1. degrade camera quality
2. no HDMI out, TV out not sure
3. some kernel might give unsmooth experience when watching 1080p video
I'm afraid the problem here has to do with wifi. Because as I said, when turned off at night I get a reasonable performance. But during the day, when it is on because I need to have mail pushed, the battery fades quickly...
I'm in Beijing and have no issues with battery life on China Mobile. I always keep the device on with data, gps, wifi etc. Most of my usage at the hotel is via wifi and when I'm out is on edge. Can generally get 25-30 hours on a single charge. I'm using stock KK5 with siyah kernel v2.4.2 with KL1 modem.
Should close wifi and background data.U can enable them once per 30 min or an hour.Continuous usage on wifi, especially background data can cause u great battery drainage.
For me,if i close wifi and background data,it only drops 1 or 2 percent an hour, but it drops drastically if they are on.Sometimes 20 percent in one hour. It's just a Galaxy S2 issue.Try to flash different roms and kernels to have better battery life.
I am currently in china using china mobile.

I have it too. No help so far.
Download the app "battery calibration" from the market, and follow the instructions in the app.
No use man tried all the things recommended battery savers ,calibration ,stopping services blah blah .... etc .I be live is time to say goodbye to this rom and return to plain old Eclair. It is no fun to worry when the battery will go flat on me!
Set min CPU to 19 MHz (only in custom kernels)
No lag, reboot, etc at all.
i feel also, my x8 got faster battery drain...any solution about that ?
did u guys try wiping the battery stats in CWM??? it usually helps. i had battery drains everytime i newly installed gingerdx.
Some of the tips to save your battery i learnt overtime in XDA posts thanks to those threads.. sry i dont remember the exact ones
1) Disable Haptic Feed back. ( The phone vibrates during certain UI interactions and hard button presses)
2) Keep your phone's brightness low(less than 30% if possible). If your phone has a Light Sensor, then enable Auto Brightness so that your screen's brightness changes according to to your surroundings light levels
3) Download RAM manager(requires root, if you haven't rooted your phone check out here) and keep your RAM free soa as to avoid many apps running uselessly. You can check out about RAM Manager here and download it.
4) Use Juice Defender Battery saver. This app does a neat job and really saves your battery life.
I use a Sony Ericsson W8 for now and I get a battery life of roughly three days with moderate use!
To know more about Juice Defender and to download it see here.
5) Charge your phone occasionally to enhance your battery life.
6) If you use a Custom ROM and Custom Kernel you can make use of Undervolt modules.
7) Use SET CPU (requires root, if you haven't rooted your phone check out here) to underclock your mobile processor when your phone is not in genuine use.
8) Apps like Facebook for Android, Music etc occupy your RAM even after you close them. They run as an actual background process rather than a Cache Background Process.
So goto Settings -> Applications -> Running Services to close them manually(This frees more RAM as well as increases your battery life)
9) This one is for rooted phones with Clockworkmod Recovery or xRecovery. In case you face an abnormal battery drain try this. Charge your phone to 100% and reboot your phoneto CWM menu or xRecovery menu and select advanced and Wipe battery stats alone and reboot and charge your phone for another ten minutes and Voila! your phone battery would last longer than it normally did!!!
10) Uninstall unused applications so as to prevent battery drain.
Dont forget to hit the thanks button

Hello Guys, I may have figured out the battery drain problem. I was previously using Froyobread on my W8. I decided to upgrade it to GDX so I flashed it.
Before flashing, my battery was at 25-27%...Right after flashing though, I noticed that it went up to 46%??? (My phone was not plugged through USB or charger during update process)
Could this be the reason for the so-called battery drain issue? Meaning the phone "thinks" its fully charged even if its not?

u better wipe the battery stats after u install a custom rom like GDX ..... charging the phone to 100 percent and then wiping the battery stats keeps the phone in a stable battery condition and there wont be battery drains.....
Okay, so I noticed that the batt drain was unacceptable the first time I installed gdx (it ate like 2% every 5min on standby) so I read all the advices here and did my own combination.
Heres what I did...
I switched back to froyobread then fully charged the phone. I then reset the bat stats thru CWM then charged the phone again. I did this like 3x coz every time I reset the stats, it would drop 5-8%...after that, I then installed GDX and once again, fully charged it the wiped stats thru CWM and using battery calibration. After that, I noticed a big change in bat life. Its now about 12hrs running under normal usage (a few calls, sms and some wifi), the batt is still at 88%...whereas before, it would have been around 30ish already when I was running froyo.
Could it be that GDX jumbles up the numbers when it is installed on phones with bad battery stats?
Just sharing my experiences...
OT: GDX rocks!

90%+ of time no network - battery drain

Hi everyone,
Today I've noticed, after installing cm10.1, that my battery life hasn't improved at all compared to color rom. While other Oppo find 5 users say the battery life changes for the good.
The problem is that my device says that it doesn't have signal or an unknown signal. While today, I had 3 full bars of connection the whole time. Also in betterbatterystats the apps says my phone was awake for 5+ hours, while the cm10.1 battery app says my phone was barely awake.
Ofcourse I've got screenshots to show you what I exactly mean.
If you guys need more information on this, please ask me and I'll post it as soon as I can.
I really want to know what's up with my battery drainage, cus just 3 hours of screentime(just 2g or wi-fi) is by far not enough for me.
Thanks in advance!

If you want to use to CM roms there are a few things to check.
If you are coming from a 4.2.2 ColorRom you need to flash the 4.1 modem for AOSP roms, the 4.2 modem doesn't work.
The modem can be found here (thanks to anders3408): http://d-h.st/BEg
CM10.1 is using a kernel that is not that great compared to other AOSP roms but you can still increase battery life by changing the cpu governor to 'Conservative'. To get access to the performance settings go to 'Settings' --> 'ABout Phone' and tab 'Build Number' repeatedly. The performance sttings will now be visible in the settings menu.
Better IMO would be to use a newer AOSP rom with new kernel. I would suggest to try out the following roms, all of them should offer better battery life:

Turn off google now, syncs, and uninstall facebook. That's what did the trick for me. Also, location settings to off.
Google search (velvet.apk) always eats my battery. So i always delete.
Start with wakelocks and everything automated like syncing and such... After that make sure nothing is getting in the way of screen off battery consumption... From there Basically ur looking for longer screen on times which really has to do with your type of usage... (I can play games while listening to music and get a max screen on time of 2hours or I can read forums check mail..( do stuff that's not cpu/gpu intensive) and hit 6~7 hours screen on time)) Remember those high screen on times are for test purpose and not daily use (unless u really hardly use ur smartphone as 1 )...
Step1. Turn screen brightness to sub 0 value using something like lux auto brightness.. Screen brightness is ur 1st enemy.. control the minimum comfortable brightness u need and that alone will give u an hour or so extra of screen on time... Next is apps running and cpu freq (control what's running and how long u stay on high freqs~ the longer u stay there the more battery u use up..)
... Clear memory when uve used many apps during the day( some tend to stick around when not needed and use battery~ make sure greenify does its job)
Find a good profile for usage between freqs~cores online~ this will introduce lag but nothing too crazy if ur willing to squeeze every last drop of juice
