Hi guys!
I've seen a few methods how to get root access on latest .253 firmware, but this one is, I think, the easiest way available:
1. If on .253, use flashtool to flash an older version which has available OTA for .253. The one I used is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223827
2. Root is as simple as it gets with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 . Use 3) option to root.
3. When rooted enter "Superuser" and check "ota rootkeeper".
4. After 3. is done go to settings > apps > all > update center > clear data, to avoid force close error, then enter "update center" app on your phone and hit refresh button to get OTA .253 update notification. Download and install latest firmware.
Done!
Another guide, although the existing one is still simpler I think.
From me to you.

Well basically this is:
1) Go back to .434
2) and use easy root for .434
Not really easy root for .253

3) and OTA update to .253
I find this method way more simple than installing dual recoveries and flashing prerooted firmwares after downgrading and stuff. My tutorial is basically: root with binary tool > OTA update. If there is simpler way to root latest .253 I would like you to paste me a link so I could learn something new.

I did yes, as most People I imagine will want to install CWM, so it's just doing the step before, instead of after using this method. To be fair though this is quite simple so I'll add a link to it, but under the name .253 OTA ROOT, as this thread should be called.
It's also only relevant if you can get ota...

If this works (I haven't tried it yet) I think it is the easiest way.
Only a couple of question before try it, is there a kind of problem like reboot when mount system partition to write with this method?
And, which ROM did you use to try that?
Thank you for all!!
(Sorry for my bad english)
for me, this is the simplest one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285608

If you flash firmware I posted in first post, you always get OTA. That makes it relevant enough I guess.

Unbranded UK still doesn't have any kind of .253 update. Flash the one in link I posted in first post, and follow other steps. In the end you'll be rooted without unlocking bootloader or losing anything.

It seems that doesn´t work for me, I don't know why. I'm trying it with my locked bootlader Xperia Z and my official spanish .434 update.
The issue is that when it finish to download the update using the update center (only 67.5MB, is it normal?) I push install, the phone reboots but when it is installing (with the droid in the screen), the status bar jumps to the middle of the bar and the phone boots. And when it stars a message appears on the screen that can't install the new software version, try again later.
What can I do? Maybe is the spanish version? I have some modded apps in system, I tried to put the original again but I can't remember all the modded apps.
Sorry for my bad english again.
Thanks

i would like to know to which folder the OTA's get automatically downloaded.
you see, i have a stock g2, rooted s-off, i have a custom recovery, bacon bits and all that. however, i never updated my phone with an OTA.. and so for a time now i would get an OTA and keep postponing it.. then it would go away again for good.. until recently it started popping up yet again.
so this morning i decided that i would update. my current build is 1.19.531.1 and the update would take me to 1.22.xxx something build.
so i clicked "restart & install" and it restarted and took me to recovery (i have clockwork recovery). but it didnt automatically install the update. so i tried doing it manually within recovery and didnt know which folder to point to.
i ended up rebooting and my build version didn't change, but when i go to system updates it says that i'm up to date now.
can anyone help me out with this?
thank you!
There will be a file in your /cache folder.

Thanks man, I dont need rootfor this right?
I managed to use giefroot root my D6603 (US version) on firmware 23.0.1.A.5.77 by downgrading to 23.0.A.2.93 without wiping the whole /data.
This is what I did: (Try at your own risk!)
1 Backup the contacts first. The contacts data will be cleared.
2 Use Flashtool to flash D6603_23.0.A.2.93_Generic_20GLOBAL.ftf. Uncheck wipe DATA.
3 Restart the device. There will be lots of annoying force close popups. For me, only two packages were reported closing: android.process.acore and android.process.media. USB debugging doesn’t work either.
4. Just close the popups and go to Settings – Apps – All. Find “Media Storage” and press “clear data” to get rid of FCs of android.process.media. USB debugging should work now.
5. Find “Contacts Storage” and press “clear data”. No more FCs of android.process.acore.
After this, no more FC popups for me. It looked normal on fw 2.93 and I tried many times to use giefroot v2 but failed. It seems like that the system exploit app CVE-2014-7911 will crash android.
6. I tried clearing data of more apps. After clearing ApplicationSettings and ConfigUpdater, giefroot v2 worked! I don’t know which one is the key. Can anyone confirm?
Hope it's helpful for you.
Thanks again! @zxz0O0
I followed your steps and after a few tries i got root. The only thing i did diferrent was that i enabled "Allow mock locations" and it worked.

Yes, you are right. After my steps, one still needs to follow the instructions of giefroot by zxz0O0:
How to use
Download the tool (latest version) and extract it
Start your device and plug it to your computer
Put your device in air plane mode
Run install.bat and follow the instructions on screen
Congratulations! You should now be rooted. If you get an error "Device not rooted", try running the tool a second time.

thanks for this useful tip. Step 6 was not needed with D6603_23.0.A.2.98_Customized_20DE.ftf and giefroot v2.

There's already a pre-rooted version which you can flash in recovery
Thanks for this guide!
The only problem I'm having is, once rooted and with the dual-recovery installed, I can't decrypt my device in TWRP. It asks for my password, but tells me it's wrong and just asks for the password again. If I choose 'cancel' it continues but won't load anything off my sd card/internal. So I can't flash the update to .77
Anyone know why this might be?

I seem to have gotten around this for now by using adb push to copy the file to the /tmp folder of my device. I still can't access internal storage, which is a pain, but at least I can finish the steps to get back to .77 (and hopefully Lollipop soon!).

Sorry that I know nothing about the decryption. After a quick search, it seems to me probably a bug of TWRP (github.com/TeamWin/Team-Win-Recovery-Project/issues/247).

Connect your phone to the computer.
Start install.bat
If until that moment you have never connected you phone to this PC via adb you will get a popup message on you phone to authorize this computer. Do it.
The procedure will start. After a while your phone should restart by itself.
After the phone boots up wait until a popup from SuperSu appears asking for adb shell root rights. Do it.
When you give the permission you have to see on the computer the sign "Device rooted".
If it says Device not rooted repeat all the steps running install.bat again.

Maybe others actually install the drivers then
Goto C:\Flashtool\Drivers
and run
drivers.exe
Choose fastboot, flashmode and Z3 drivers
Then try again. The guides also do not mention that you have turn the PC on, some sort of self help in overcoming errors does help. If it says drivers need to be installed, install them...
PS, also there is never a need to quote the whole OP, I will edit that out for you

Choose the flashmode and fastboot drivers as well
If you are running Windows 8/8.1 you need to allow installation of unsigned drivers.
No problems with rw access if you follow the steps. Xposed installs normaly, as always, no problem installing it.
Rw access to SD is solved by installing SDfix from Market. I did it, and it's working as expected.

Yes, the screenshot taken from my phone
@zinko_pt I got B371 update notification 1.18 GB in size.
@Ing.King really strange, i did it without any issue.
By the way guys, I just released it. It's up to you, updating or not..
We who had only B371 couldn't either update. Where and when will we get B30?

Really soo weird, I installed it at once without facing any problem.
It doesn't need a clean B180 rom because I installed it over my usual rom. It wasn't clean.
Something must be wrong in somewhere... but where?
Back here again..
No good news, tried to instal via sd, same issue, fail at 6%
But, but, but there might be a reason, i flashed the sdk21 of xposed, and idk how to remove it.. maybe this is the cause of it....
When you installed, you had to : unroot & put the recovery back ? Or you where "clean"
I'll try tomorrow, with a rest head

Oh, when I was saying "not clean" I meant installed apps and my all data
And yes, my rom was clean if we consider root and recovery condition.

Hi,
Hmmm so maybe the xposed package.rar i've flashed made this error
Well, i'll try when i receive the H8
Or maybe i had to put the recovery of B100 instead of B180 :/
Edit 1 : When i check the local.prop, there is "ro.dual.sim.phone=false" or the PLK-L01 is a dual sim, so i don't understand ^^
Edit 2 : Flash with TWRP =
MD5's missing
coming from B180 stock /rooted /xposed.....
1.) i flashed all possible partitions i had extracted (HuaweiExtractor) from B180. (system; cust; boot; recovery)
2.) reboot
3.) i flashed full rom B180 from folder dload (vol up&down&power) to be sure to get really all parts of firmware!
4.) reboot
5.) local update b190.zip from folder dload
6.) reboot
7.) i flashed twrp rc3 with fastboot to recovery partition
8.) had rooted and installed xposed now
all works as expected! Now i am on B190.
at least i had to install some modifications to system again and recover my data partition (twrp)
all in all nearly 1 hour hard work!

Hi,
In fact you just cleaned up your B180 in order to instal the 190 ?
The "real" B180
Pure stock if i could say ? Sure, it will work, but i tried to install it without getting back to stock^^
uff 1 hour to achieve upgrade... pity that I have to do factory reset to make upgrade to b190, no root no open bootloader no changes to firmware despite all this I cannot upgrade normal way... very sad, bad job honor(huawei)
because i had made a backup of my apps and data with the HUAWEI backup app (update to version from PlayStore is necessary!) recovery was easy! Had to remove some blood ware and unused apps only!
then reinstalled PMplus; managed autostart and apps they should stay on if screen is off.
reinstalled my google account
all in all a little bit more than 1 hour like i told you
now i am on b190 rooted; xposed and xprivacy activ on; and of curse Viper4Android for better sound.
real easy!

How did you update it? if you were rooted then you have to flash img files manually first before doing a three button update.

Hi,
I tried a lot a thing, but i prefer stay in B180 i got backup corrupted, i thought it was due to the switch version but no, so, tried via sd, internal, 3 buttons, after that an error occured, "recovery partition missing"
Well i've reset everything from B100 to get back to B180, after that, tried ota researching, but it only find the B371 doesn't matter ^^

Yes, as B371 is the latest one so they will push B371 only, now there are no incrementals. But I have put up a thread here, maybe sometime later I'll post the OTAs too.

How can i install the ota update?
I´ve unlocked bootloader, twrp and root.
I always get update failed.
The update is VKY-L29C432B123.
Thanks in advance!
Why are you trying to install an ota update on a modified phone? You're just asking for trouble really.
Maybe because i want the update and it irritates me when it notifies all the time. It's not your problem if i want to update ?

Let us know if you find it!
Ok.
- Download a full ota with the app "firmware finder" from the play store.
- unpack update.app from the zip file
- extract recovery.img from the update.app with Huawei update extracted (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454)
- flash via fastboot
- the update should work now
- reflash twrp again when needed
 that link is 4 years old! Are you really trying to tell us that works? In any case I'm on the latest release for my device.
It works

Which recovery are you talking about?

The question wasn't why you are trying to update at all but why you are trying to install a regular update on a MODIFIED device, because it should have gone without saying that this can't work!
Ok, jump in the forum...
Just bought my P10plus (6gb/128gb) a few days ago, and surprisingly there is no update for my device(based in the Netherlands) latest update was b123. So how can I install the latest b133 update if I download through the app from play store?
Locked bootloader, no modifications at all.
Thx.
Is it worth to install at all?

Only ways for updating past B123 right now are either through unlocking bootloader or by using Funkyhuawei. For the latter you have to pay though, currently minimum 23$. Imho there is no noticable difference between B123 and B133 though.
I would like to do OTA update on a Rooted P10 Plus as well... with TWRP
I only knew how to root the phone. Took me a while to root, not as easy as my other phones. Thus I don't want to unroot an reroot again.
Though I can wait, I dont really need to get the update installed the same day as OTA.
Is there any way to install it easily?
I hope this helps you guys.

This method from Mate 9 forum works, and it's free (I've flashed like 4/5 OTAs with it).
But it does a factory reset everytime, since you must unlock bootloader, and it becomes locked again with new OTA flashed, so need to backup first.
The oeminfo files for VKY-L09 (single sim), VKY-L29 (dual sim) and VKY-ALL (chinese dual sim) are in the zip, so you have to chose the right one and accordingly be sure to find the right files from hwmt.ru for your device ( i.e. don't try to instal L29 firmware with a L09 branded device ; it should boot, but you'll have a lot of weird bugs and it won't show the right device name in phone infos).
Hope it helps :good: !
