hi
ill been searching for weeks on the internet and here and i cannot find an answer to what is really causing the boot loop problem when i connect the charger or disconnect the charger.
to get the phone to work again i have to do the twist fix to get it to boot but as soon i connect the charger it restart it self and bootloop i have to twist again to boot, then when i disconnect the charger the same thing.
my question is do anyone ever find out what is causing this or where on the motherboard lies the problem?im assuming is probably close to the charging port. anyone have an idea where exactly the problem is?sorry if this been answered before but honestly i did not find it.
i know is an old phone but i like it is a good backup phone.thanks for taking the time to read this...
anyone?
What recovery do you have.
What rom are you running.
What is your emmc chip.

thanks for answering well im not 100% what recovery version is on i factory reset the phone then rooted unlock with gfree and if i remember well i use rom manager to install the recovery.
the rom im running now is Android_Revolution_HD-Glacier_7.0.4
and my emmc chip is SEM04G
Switch roms. Try out cyanogen 7 nightly.
If it still bootloops there then its a hardware issue

well i did install cm7 nightly the latest and still when i connect the charger it reboot and bootloops i still have to do the twist fix to boot completly
i guess is hardware problem and im assuming is around the charging port because with the twist fix thats where most of the pressure is put on.
anyone knows exactly where it is so i can do a permanent fix and not twisting the phone every time to boot, i know it works now but for how long before something get damage inside by doing this.any help will be appreciated or i might have to give up on this phone.
i know for sure the emmc chip is fine because a few days ago i flash stock rom successfully. . thanks everyone
Ive never actually heard of that problem but it might be a loose flax cable that signals something and causes it to bootloop.
Do a logcat and then.show us the output.

[Q] [ROM] KOT49H【4.4.2】GE 01-09-2014 (at&t gs4) By Danvdh Battery Issues
Phone reboots when powered off while plugged into charging cable. Also, takes super long time to charge and battery drains a little quicker. Any help would be appreciated, as I am not able to post to the Rom thread direct (This is my 2nd post ever, says I need 10 posts before I can post direct). Anyone??

Did you try to reflash the rom ? Have others had your same issues ? if not maybe you got a back download or something keeping your phone awake

I did reflash, factory reset, let it settle for 5 minutes. Didn't install anything, just powered off while plugged in and it still does it. What do you mean back download? If you meant bad download, I checked md5. I've read through so many posts and found a few people with battery issues similar, but they weren't answered. I have twrp, wanted to try cwm, but rom manager doesn't seem to be able to flash over twrp.
Never, ever use ROM manager

Hi,
I hope I made this in the right section but I've got myself into a really nasty problem and I know how to fix it after spending full 10 hours. Maybe this will help anybody.
I re-used my Arc after a while and learned about custom roms and all. I've updated to Stock 2.3.4 - Stock 4.0.4 - Ultrakitkat 2.0.1 - Stock 4.0.4 (back because of trying to compare performances between custom and stock) - Ultimate HD 5.0.1.
When going from Ultrakitkat to Stock 4.0.4, after a day I woke up and found my phone rebooting Android on a loop while in the wall-charger. Went to take a shower and the phone was dead.
Charger didn't work, put it on my laptop USB and went on, only to find the battery at 100%. When disconnecting the phone, it immediately went blank and didn't turned on. I've looked for this problem for so many hours and tried flashing my romand kernel for some time (including phone drops dead WHILE in flashing) and trying out different way's to connect and boot but nothing worked. Installed many battery tools and apps but still nothing.
I;ve searched a lot and didn't found any conclusion anywhere, but combining every information online I've solved it!!
Apperantly there is an error inbetween roms, that when you go from custom rom + certain kernels, back to stock rom, it stops recognizing the battery.
To solve this (for me it worked):
Flashtool stock TFT 4.0.4
Fastboot flash the LUPUSV16 kernel (the magic trick!)
Turn on phone, and put it on a charger for 15 minutes, it should start recharging somewhere and show the correct battery %
I wanted to use the Ultimate HD just for a try and when flashing (I use Advanced Stock Kernel) + Ultimate HD
DO NOT WIPE BATTERY STATS! This will recreate the problem.
This worked for me and I hope this will help someone too who's thinking there is a problem with the battery.
Mostly reflashing the kernel does the job

Leaving the phone turned off for some hours worked for me!
Thank you!
if you dont want see this problem
do not downgrade to stock kernel
Same issue here.. after fastbooting stock ftf.. Phone not charging and not recognized in fastboot/flashmode
Guys worked for me
Flash rush kernel after downgrading and tada its done.
Its just coz rush recognizes the hardware chip algorithm for battery stats

Hello good people of XDA i own a gs4 for about a year. Absolutelyawesome phone, ... But recently i've had some problem.
Ok so let me explain if i was to lock my phone for longer time not touch it (1 hour or half an hour) when i unlock touchwizz freezes tho i can use things like notification bar.
So i tried fixing it. it happened to me before
- my phone is rooted
-it's not the battery
The only thing that helps is install a custom rom or install a custom rom and then revert to stock.
And i do root the phone, i know i can fix it clean install custom rom then stock rom, but i really have a lot of stuff on my phone.
I am using stock rom all the time and it could be that the problem is Root or something i really dont have a clue
I apologize if i posted incorrectly please let me know if you have a soulution im glad to take it

I dont think its the battery because you see if i install custom rom then stock its fixed for about 2 weeks then it "comes back" the problem
Idk i can try with a new battery maybe it'll do the trick
Hey guys ! I am using cm12 unofficial 5.0 lollipop ROM for i9500 for 3 weeks already . My phone started to act very strange and I strongly think it's the ROM who did it. Firstly, I had problem with charging and I changed the charging port with one brand new, now I have even bigger problems with charging and MOREOVER after few days after that my back and menu buttons stopped working, I'm done with CM . All I want to do is flashing any official ROM and never come back to cm. BUT LIKE IF THAT WAS NOT ENOUGH, Odin does not recognize my phone anymore. I have enabled the USB debugging and ofc I have Samsung drivers, it is not a PC problem, I am using same pc and USB cable to flash officialbrom as I did to flash cm ROM ! Help me guys I'm desperate and I hope it is not too late.

Any ideas ? im desperated.
If the S4 was working for a few weeks with CM12 and now you're suddenly experiencing all these issues, it's extremely unlikely the ROM is the cause of all of it. Take your S4 to the service center. Especially as Odin isn't recognizing the device.
Eh, i took it to a expert where i repaired all of my phones. He said CM is very toxic and i should get rid off it as fast as possible, till is not too late, ofc i don't trust him too much( i'm, sure u know that kind of expert who doesn't trust unofficial sources or smth like that ), but i hate everything happened so suddenly and that strange problem.
EDIT: TAKE IN COUNT THAT : All of my problems appeared few hours after i changed the charger port ! I will buy another charging port and i really hope it will solve my problem, but it's very strange that i tried 3 PCs and no one of them recognize that phone, it's frustrating.
Well, I personally don't recommend CyanogenMod either, but not because their ROMs don't work. Besides, for the S4, Cyanogenmod really isn't relevant. While I can understand why people like it, the S4 is one of the few devices that had a Google Play Edition made available for it. You get 100% functional drivers from Samsung, coupled with Touchwiz-free Android. If you install the custom GPE ROM in Development you can customize the ROM to do things like replacing Google Now Launcher with Apex, and not dealing with the Google apps you never use.
Once you get your phone sorted out, whether by finally getting it recognized in a PC or by having it serviced, install Danvdh's custom GPE ROM and be happy. Especially as you don't have to worry about CyanogenMod.
Eh I can take care of that after but now I need some help because I tried everything.
I already told you what you have to do: send the phone in for service.
You sir are unsuited for flashing custom roms. You are blaming hardware failure on the rom you are using. CM has nothing to do with the issues your are having.
Last tip don't consult that expert anymore. CM is far from toxic. It just has more bugs then the stock because it's coded form scratch. So it's a work in progress.
It's probably a hardware failure.
Eh, I can't be sure yet, I all change charging port and see what is going on with that buttons and come back to tell you.

Some words from me, qualified as hardware technician with 10+ years of experience and Android app/mod/ROM development:
Nonsense, there's no Android part that can cause a hardware failure except hard kernel modifications (absolutely not the CM way), and AOSP/CM is way less toxic than the stock Samsung ROM.
Misfortune, hardware failure not caused by ROM
I trusted him at that moment as he said to get rid of it as fast as possible, but i also was under pressure because 2-3 weeks ago i paid a lot of money on touch+display bcs it died suddenly. Thanks for reply !
By the way i may repair the charging and buttons problem but what about 'device not recognized' ? I mean that's what i posted for, because i want back official ROM! Is there any way to flash stock firmware without PC ? I mean just like i flashed CM via cwm recovery ?
HEY but what if there is not any hardware problems ? I mean that was the first thing to come in my mind when I saw so many problem. Tell me what you think about that? That is why I want to flash a stock ROM so help me to do this because there is no way for any PC to recognize my phone.
@wowempire: Are you serious? You've just had two guys with far more experience using this device than I do tell you that you have a hardware problem. The pedigree of @AntaresOne speaks for itself and yet you still insist upon posting a "what if it isn't hardware" question?
You've been told what your problem is and what to do about it, but you go ahead and waste your time. I'm out, as I don't have the patience for this.
OK so I changed charging port with a brand new and BAM in 1 day I got problem with it again. Would u think it is a hardware problem anymore if you would be in that situation? I don't think so Mr impatient.
Ah and what my problem is ? Why the phone is not recognized ? Wait it must be a hardware problem for sure.
And if you still didn't get it : I just want to flash stock ROM because I can solve hardware problem later.

It's because software can't cause this. If your phone is not recognized by your pc then it has nothing to do with the rom that is flashed. Why don't you just flash a custom TW based rom if you wan't to get rid of CM?

He is here only to discredit CM... Convinced that CM (used for 3 weeks) broke his device, in these cases it's better to go away, leave him and his technician with this convinction.
@Alberto96 @frapeti help needed here friends, he said it's i9500, tell him the truth since he won't trust us...
@wowempire you are NOT paying for assistance, you are kindly invited to not deal with us in that way, "Mr impatient".
We already said that your device is broken, I did hardware repairs on more than 30 s4 till now.
If you won't trust us that are KINDLY and PATIENTLY trying to deal with you to help, why are you still here?

I don't know how to get rid of CM since I can't connect it to PC. But thanks for help everyone.
Nevermind, I found out how I can flash stock ROM without Odin/PC, I guess u could tell me that from very beginning since that was what I asked for : to get rid of CM even if I can't connect the phone to PC.

Hey st###d go see your expert technician to fix your phone and stop arguing with people who are far superior to you in the hardware and android development world.
Again, you trust your technician mate who says cyanogenmod is toxic but you keep harassing people on xda for help.
GTF out of here!

I would tell your technician to check USB switch on motherboard, probably it's damaged...
Did you already try with another USB cable/PC?
If nothing works for you, ask your technician to make a USB jig in this way:
Micro USB type B male connector with 300Kohm resistor+1Kohm resistor in series between pins 4 and 5 of USB connector. If he can't make it for you, you can still order on already built on eBay, it's very cheap. How to use it?
Remove your battery, plug USB jig and insert battery back. Device will power on itself in Factory download mode, unplug jig and plug USB cable. Open Odin and see if it is recognized, if not install USB drivers again and repeat the procedure. If still no luck, most likely your USB switch on the motherboard is broken

I don't think the jig is going to help. The hardware is fubar. He's got too many other hardware problems that are unrelated to the connectivity issues.
And definitively, CyanogenMod did NOT cause these problems. It hasn't caused these problems on the 10 million other S4's it's been installed on.

Just a try, this would definitely give him the answer. Thinking better, if a USB switch IC is damaged the phone shouldn't work even after flat cable change, but in his case worked for a while... Probably a cable issue? Something stuck inside USB connector (cable side, so male) that is capable of damaging female USB connector (device side)?
