Very cool indeed
I might not have voice controlled locks, or anything voice controlled for that matter, but I still think the technology is weird to use and too unprecise. Well, seems like he thought of a lot of things, especially the security (Encryption and stuff), so pretty neat house anyway!
Oh well, all I wanted to say was that it's quite easy to make something remote controlled, I have an Arduino, with a relay and a Bluetooth module on a power socket which I can control from my phone via BlueTerm (Bluetooth terminal app). I guess it's just a matter of taking the time to implement it to a web-based solution for optimal use and longer range...
If anyone would care to try and replicate my project, I'll be happy to help you Right now I'm lazy, so I'm controlling the bedside lamp because I lie on the opposite side of the bed
pretty cool way to use it

i know a camera app is not natively installed,
but can anyone of you lucky folk to be playing with your nexus take a reasonable light level typical picture so i and others can get an idea of the image quality?
be much appreciated.
cheers.
p.s i'm thinking of bodging up a little mirror attachment to 'convert' the camera to (at least) 'upwards facing' or in other words, if the tab is held flat, forward facing...
i like dodgy things like that...
Arstechnica has some pictures taken during their review. Also they take them from both within Skype, and using a Camera App built for the N7 on the market. Huge difference, but its still a low end camera.
Here's a pic in my house with only the 4 kitchen lights on. http://www.imgur.com/u06De.jpeg
cheers, i guess its 'ok' for its purpose.
I got used to my ipod 4th gen camera for the odd snap when out and about, it seems it should do that job ok, and sure app thats aren't compatible will get an update to optionally use it. kind of kills 'augmented reality' though doesn't it? was the new big thing, and now, uh, nah sorry google says no.
worse cam is about the only loss of selling my 'pod i think, but will probably upgrade my phone package which should have a reasonable cam as they do these days.
cheers.

amusing contrast in the two pics there! -
i'm imagining you winning the pink mac girl over with your nice gadgets & N7 in the cafe or wherever then taking her back to... uh flash-beezy's room.
"oh... "
but maybe she'll won't care by then. my room is also a tip but my gf is past noticing, worn down.
anyway with a bit of natural light the pic isn't too bad, indoor is as expected, but for snaps to msg to folk or make note of things, seems ok.
thanks - keep the 'what N7 owners take pictures of' coming...

Lol. Haven't been able to put my Nexus down
Plus my Fiancé is suppose to clean her crap from in front of my TV LOL
just to mention, i see that instagram has updated their app to be nexus7 camera compatible, as it wasn't before apparantly.
so you can make those dodgy pics more presentable.
in other news, initial tests of my 'angled mirror attachment' idea seem ok using ipod as a tester. just need a little mirror that is less scratched than the one i've got at the moment.
i think being able to have a 'forward facing' (when tablet held flat) cam meaning you can visually frame things up would be handy for alot of folk.

Hey guys I know there are a lot of post about this issue in comparing the Nexus 10 and the note. I am a teacher.I will be using the device for job and in meetings. I also am thinking that I could take pictures of students assignments and grade them and take notes and records from that.in particular I just need to be able to keep running records of student trials on certain skills. . I do realize that the Nexus is a sweet device and I definitely wanted but I need to justify getting it for my job is it going to be able to do that stuff?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
The Nexus 10 has much better pixel density than the Note 10.1. This will make reading anything easier.
However, because of the lack of an active stylus, you would have to settle for a slightly less accurate passive one. I happen to use a Targus stylus. Tablet styli come in many shapes and forms nowadays. If you have the time, I would recommend visiting a place like Fry's to try some out. (Some require you to press hard; some don't. Some slide easily; some don't.) The digitizer on the Nexus 10 screen is actually quite good, so you won't notice any squiggly lines when drawing diagonal lines. (Poor digitizers are an annoying problem on some handsets.)
Give Skitch a try. I personally haven't tried it yet, but it looks like you can take a picture and annotate it with this app.
If you can get PDFs of student assignments, ezPDF works really well for annotations. (Yes, I have used this app quite frequently, so I can attest to its awesomeness.)
It's a tough call--insane pixel density or insane stylus accuracy. Please let us know which one you decide on buying.
To be honest, great pixel density can only help so much. I think the Note 10.1 is much much better at what you want to do.

You guys are being a lot of help. I appreciate it, it helps a lot. It really sucks that the Nexus doesn't apply as well for my needs because if I wasn't using it for school so much and class it would hands-down be my choice because it is awesome .. It sounds to me like the stylus and everything that comes with the newt is just invaluable for what I will be using it for . Anybody disagree?

No disagreement. Nexus 10 does media consumption really well, but it really doesn't do so well with productivity.
It's anyone being productive with the Nexus.. note taking.meeting notes etc

I use Catch notes with addons for meetings, little presentations, etc. As to do use Any.DO. Don't think that Note 10.1 can be better except drawing.
Or can it mess up/burn out the LED?
It CAN burn out the LED, but don't leave it on for extended periods and you'll be fine.
I only use it occasionally. So is it worth keeping or should I uninstall it?
So far I've only used it as a torch for say... an hour tops? Constant.
I would keep it, they come in handy especially if you drop your keys beside the car seat at night and you can't see. Look into the galaxy nexus flashlight on the play store doesn't take a lot of space and works well.

Oh my, finally an Android tablet that doesnt feel like a downgrade from an Android mobile phone.
Nice lcd screen, nice weight balance, nice keyboard and most of all so smooth, exactly like the Note 2 I had before.
I'm not a big fan of Touchwiz but on this tablet it actually seems to make more sense than in a phone.

In portrait mode top left on about 4-5cm and top right side 2-3cm. Shop wouldn't replace it... It's true that in normal use you don't see it, only with dark movies. My Tab2 was as bad or worse but on the 10.1 screen it wasn't so bothersome.
If it bothers me I will try to send it in under warranty.

I dont know I'm living with it for now. Fact is that when you flex the tablet the whole screen goes black or white so probably there is something with how these tablets are built. Also if I press at the spot the light bleed disappears...

Welcome to the club! While I was very happy with mine out of the box I'm getting a lot of pleasure out of tweeking the performance and trying out different apps to take advantage of the stylus (in between playing a shed load of games that wouldnt run on my old tablet).
There is no need to open a new thread because you bought the tablet. Imagine everyone who buys Galaxy Note 8.0 to open a new thread.
Thread closed.

Really? I found them quite adaptive. Especially since you can customize the layout of each individual button. The position of it on the screen and 5 different sizes for each button. Even the HUD map on the screen is customizable. I definitely couldn't rock the default controls on GTA 3 and Vice city for mobile. So I suggest you go into the settings

Haha for sure. Also in Vice City mobile you could boost performance and graphics/ draw distance. I'm not certain if you can on gta3 mobile, but you should check it out in the settings. Might be under "display". I don't have a nexus 5 yet, I'd imagine it would look very nice.

So I may pickup a moga pro just for this Badboy. I've been on the fence about it for a while now and this is definitely a game I would invest a controller for.

Same here. The new Moga Power series looks really good. They made it better than the v1 and it now can charge your phone while you play.
Ok that's cool I didn't know there was a new version. But I already have a ps3 controller so no point in buying something else. Unless there was something that attached to the phone like a slide case like the iphone one. Then that would be worth buying (except for iphone it costs 100 dollars id only buy it if it was at most 1/3 of that lol )
Amazon version is out now!! At least for the UK. I'm not going to purchase it from there though, I'm waiting for the Google play version.
