Spotify for Tytn (new owner) - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi, might sound crazy, but I have just purchased a HTC Tytn off ebay 1) because i've never had one 2) because I heard back in the day they were great and 3) because I needed a cheap 3g replacement while my current oneX goes in for repair (AGAIN!). Oh and 4) because im craaazzzzy
Anyway, not knowing a whole lot about them, is there a way to get spotify mobile to run on this fabulous phone? If so, where, and what do i need to prepare for it?
Hopefully receive the phone tomorrow.
Cheers.

ok heres an update, got the phone today, and have to say im impressed, so would be a shame not to get the most out of it...
Anyway, installed spotify for windows mobile, and it launches but due to the native screen resolution I cannot see enough to be able to operate it.
Is there a way I can zoom out or any other work around that would allow this app to run on this great phone?

Why you bought this? You can't zoom in and stuff... I mean yes sure it's a budget 3G phone but seriously... This?

Tasker experience on G2

I am on the fence about getting Tasker. I wanted to automate Wifi and notification sounds turning off/on and was going to get Tasker, but I found an app called Timeriffic and it does a good job. But I still like the level of customization afforded by Tasker.
MY question is this - if anyone has been using it on their G2 for a while, have you noticed any performance degradation? Also, noob question - what happens when you get an update or something? Do you have to pay again?
1. I've been using it for 2 weeks and I haven't noticed a drop a performance but I huge jump in efficiency
2. If there is an update you will not have to pay for the application again and all the profiles you have created will still be there.
Its definetly one of my favorite apps, I use it all the time. Once you buy it from the market updates are free, and it does not slow down your phone.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll go ahead and get it.

I've been using it since the first week it came out. I have no problems with it. Definitely one of my top-5 apps.
I've been using Tasker for two weeks now. I really like it and have noticed very little performance drop, if any. Buy it directly from their website and it's a few dollars cheaper than the Android Market. The program will check for updates itself every so often.
Make sure to read the Wiki; there are some good profiles on there.
Like the one that texts you back with a Google Maps link to where your phone is located. Was able to get rid of those crappy lost phone programs.

Push/drag stuff like video or pics straight to ur tablet or computer

Yea, hi, I know what I am talking about may be impossible at this point but is there/will there ever be a way for you to swipe the movie you are watching or a picture you are viewing straight onto the screen of your tablet or computer?
Sorry if this is something that could never happen I just had to ask...and also sorry if this is the wrong section.
Currently not possible with android. However, microsoft made this a couple years back:

It's basically a coffee table with an integrated touch screen. CBA to explain all of it right now. But it's quite amazing

Awesome, I think google needs to focus on this as far as the placing your phone on the tablet and able to do this and that and more stores need to have that tech also so it will me super easy to do things.
I'm not going to say anything about what I've seen as I'm not sure whether or not it's confidential, but you can at least check out the trademark, as that's public.

I can't promise that this will ever actually materialize, but it sounds good.
I'm sure nfc will be used for this kind of thing once it's ubiquitous..

Ya NFC chips are starting to become more and more popular and the new WebOS tablet and phones can do something like that where you set your Palm Pre (I guess it would now be the HP Pre) on the WebOS tablet and it can transfer stuff, so far I've only seen it transfer URLs, but I'm sure the technology will catch on and later be used for other things. Just a matter of time.

This phone is frickin AWESOME!!

I don't know that I've had something THIS nice before. I've had an iPhone for a while and the app store is nice but this phone with the Android system is really neat.
I've got Call Recorder working that records both sides of any call I want. It'll even upload to google or evernote if I want.
The pictures and videos it takes are great.
The screen is great, the blacks are black. I love it!!

mm, good to know
what app are you using to do phone call recording?
I have yet to find one, let us know.

Swapped from the atrix and never looked back. Getting 7 hours standby per 10% of battery so I'm lucky I don't have the battery drain issue. Though having said that, the screen really sucks up power when you've got it on.

I feel the same way as all of you. Just got the SGS2 Friday night and absolutely love it. I rooted it within a few hours as I wanted to Titanium backup but for now I am totally happy on stock. The phone is absolutely brilliant. I love surfing webpages now, no more lag even if I choose to play a flash video within the page. Video recording is amazing too. I was a little nervous reading about issues people were having but I have experienced none.
I also love that you can turn the soft keys off or extend how long they are on for. Samsung really thought things through on the design of this phone.
Man, I can't wait to get my hands on mine! Why did it have to be a bank holiday in UK today?!

Is your old NB good enough to soldier on? If so buy this as you'll find it will replace your NB for all but the heaviest of functions. Me I'm caught between this and anAcer Revo 100. I'm worried they will stop selling the revo....
Word of advice, don't update to KE7. Stick to KE2, hard reset and freeze the bloat. You will get good battery life.

If so what are you using it for? Phone or other. Need ideas not going to throw it out due to its beautiful history.

I'm afraid I'm also not using mine for anything, sitting a draw, but like you I'm definitely gonna keep onto it.
Alarm clock? You could get a 1.0 ROM or something and delete almost everything but the clock (and probably need a launcher for it).
Doorstop? It's pretty tough and chunky, and the chin might help.
A remote/Bluetooth keyboard for some other device, e.g. tablet. Idk how this would work, I've looked into it before but can't find answers.
Def sounds like a good idea for a remote. Maybe for you tube app on my TV or something other. Maybe give it to my daughter and tell her to have a ball.
Funny, I just found one of these phones at a garage sale today..... Perhaps some resource-unintensive Linux distro could be ported to it and it could be used as a small Linux box.
Still using mine as a WiFi hotspot. Since I have a free data only SIM with a volume monthly quota of 30GB
I'm using mine as a sacrificial phone when I'm kayaking. It's perfectly capable of calls, SMS, and MP3s still. The touchscreen works through a transparent drybag. I can be confident that if I should wind up in the water and the drybag should fail, it's no great loss.
Mine is with my 2 year old daughter. She play games on it ,really there is no other use.

I want to use my G1 as a screen keyboard and mouse for my raspberry pi. It would be great if I could make it usb plug and play so I could just plug it into any pi and be off.
I'm using my old mytouch 4g as an IP camera. The g1's camera isn't as good but that's another idea.

Mine is sitting in a backpack full of electronics. The camera is broken, though. It doesn't matter; It's running a ICS ROM which doesn't have camera working, anyways.
I lend it to my friend, he still uses it as a primary device !!! he was never interested in smartphones, so he is very satisfied with that phone
I Love G1
Mine, I'm still using it as my primary phone, I really love it.
I just picked up a package deal consisting of an HTC Radar 4G, a MyTouch 3G and this G1.
I have unlocked all of them (using a Lycamobile Sim). Unless I really fall for the Radar, I will probably sell it (worth more than what I paid for all 3) and keep the Dream alive :good:.
But first, need to get it up to Froyo. It will do what I need. It's the model T of Androids.
The MyTouch had a bad sim card holder, so I needed to do some solder work and hack the holder so that the card just falls in from the outside rather than slides in. The back holds it fine, but it probably not very salable (though the outside is in perfect shape)
Update-
Got the G1 rooted and running on Cyanogenmod 6. It was a struggle to find coherent , relevant, current (not really current, but currently working) info on how to work this ancient piece. It has given me a taste for it , anyway and I hope to try another ROM.
Frankly, I am just rambling to get my post count to 10 so I can ask a question in the modding forum....
It was sitting in a laundry hamper that I was using to store a bunch of old CDs and other stuff I don't use on a daily basis. It so happens that the hamper fell from the top of my bedroom closet and now I'm thinking of ways to use this thing, but the first thing that came to mind was to use it as a distraction for the kids. Now that I think about it, it could be used as a remote with keyboard and all. It's running CM6, but I'd like to know if there is a ROM that is very minimal. My phone has no ability to make calls anyway, but everything else works. Any ideas?

WIME Nano Smartwatch, looks nice

Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Doing some further reading, yes you can initiate a call to your phone with it, woot! It also has music over bluetooth and local storage. It looks like it has no speaker/mic so you have to use a headset with it, boo, but that's ok.

D'oh. I missed it, I went straight down to the pictures. Either that or the page didn't load completely the first time. Either way, thank you!
That's not a bad price point at all... maybe a mini server or media player...
Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Strange, I was also surprised by that 4.0 rather then 4.x reference. And I think you are right about headphone 3.5mm jack as the only way to listen to the music. Would have been great if they would include a camera in there.

Haha, first thing that crossed my mind when i saw it.
Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

We're fully aware. It's just between recent offerings like the Omate Truesmart and previous offerings like every chinese watch phone out there, this one seems like too little too late to really make sense right now.
If you want a cheap feature-phone watch check out what's available to get a style you like. This one is pretty big and ugly for what it does.

So I got one and got to say this thing is a perfect companion for a phone at work. Built in mic allows you to answer on your wrist and be like I'll call you back it also has Bluetooth audio out and wireless headset support. Weird thing is contacts and messages won't work without a sim has to have one active or not I'm on Verizon so its pointless to try lucky I had art laying around and it vibrates!! This thing is sweet to be cheap!!!

From the watch description:
Smart Sync Function: Can sync with smart phone, downloading phonebook and call history (iOS 4.0+ and Android 2.3+) to the device. When using Android 2.3+ OS, download and install the WiMe NanoSmart APK on the Android device and the NanoSmart will sync with the Android device (Google calendar events, new Gmail notification, call history, phonebook, sent/received SMS).
Have you tried to install WiMe NanoSmart?
I'm on 4.3 AOKP linario I can't say its bougus but the contacts sync but....... With out each and every number having the country code in it it refuses to call or message weird right?
