not a big surprise. probably exactly the same crappy screen adhesion problems that were leading to all the dust under the nexus screens... :/
mine is starting to do it as well, I can feel it slightly raised above the bezel
What problems will manifest due to this problem?

Dust under the screen. And you can see light leaking out of the bottom of the phone

Wow this is totally sh*tty
I just placed my order for the Evo and should be receiving it sometime this week.
I am wondering if maybe keeping the phone in a tight-fitting silicone case might help to reduce any possible "DISPLACEMENT" of the screen
glad to see this is getting media attention. i'm sick of htc and their crappy quality control. i went through this whole thing with my hero already...
and yes, my screen is coming apart too. it definitely wasn't like that when i got it last week.

If HTC continues to mass produce phones that fall apart because of faulty manufacturing...then the customers just might revolt
Dang it!!! mine starting to raise up as well I love this phone and Sprint service but I'm afraid the problem will worsen up as the time passes. I'm not the type to switch devices after every new released and perfer to hang to something until I feel it's not doing what I ask it to (still have HTC Uni, 8525, Treo 750 and Axim x51v).
This and the 30 fps capped is my only main concern about this phone, especially this screen separation (more light leakage or dust problem). The rest of the problem doesn't really bother me much such as the laggy touch input, improperly grounded screen and other problem doesn't apply to my device.
Is it worth the hassel of exchanging it hoping to get one without the screen separation or do they all have this problem? I'm hoping the newer hardware version (version 3) doesn't have this sort of problem, mine is hardware version 2. What you guys think?
I have been noticing more and more light leaking. I thought at first I was maybe just getting paranoid (still possible) but I saw a line about 1.5 cm long along the lower left side last night... That was definitely not there before.
What should I do? Would getting the TEP plan be prudent at this point, to cover this issue if/when it gets worse? Or would be the kind of thing HTC would be more... lenient about replacements?
Think the hairdryer method will work like it did on the Nexus? My nexus had this issue and the hairdryer method fixed it up permanently.

Yeah I actually just tried this and it worked pretty well only a little of leakage left, I figure I'll seal it up some more when I have the time and Im pretty sure I did not hold it down long enough to let it cool effectively. but the parts that are still down work like a charm. way better than having to go back, lose all your apps, headaches of customer service, etc.

So this is the reason I see light under the buttons when their off and the screen is off, and its dark in the room? because my screen seems to be holding up well, and I have it in my pocket all day, no case or screen protectors. then again, I haven't been messing with it, trying to apply things or mods to it.
Hair dryer, bubble gum, tape and what else?! These are high-end devices (Evo Nexus One, etc) and they should NOT need a MacGyver handbook to keep them together after days of ownership. HTC needs to do right by us from the design stage period!
Dear Babies,
This is a site about hacking phones. Stop *****ing and use your brains for a change. Get some black silicon caulk from Lowes. Rub a small small amount in the crack where the buttons meet the case where the light leaks. Congratulations, your phone can now be left in the desert for 10 years and nothing will get through that seam including light... I swear, you guys can spend all day rooting phones but cant use some damn common sense to fix the hardware itself. I had tons of light leakage when i got the phone. Zero now, and you cant tell i did anything to it.

I like how they do the droptest. Cause that's what usually happens when you drop a phone. But I would have appreciated it if they would have tried it on a concrete floor. And if the Z would survive I'm gonna buy Z and disregard ZL.
Waterproofness is not really for me I already had quite a number of mobile phones for like more than a decade and not even 1 dived in the water. Also I had non waterproof phones which got wet with rain and I must say rain alone is not enough to kill your phone. It's not like I would open the back cover of the phone and let rain pour inside the handset lol!

Same. The difference between hardwood drops and concrete drops is pretty significant, but I can appreciate those not willing to test the limits.

Noticed the same thing - it actually does hit the hard tiles, and they drop it many times so i'd say it might be hard to kill if you won't be throwing it around

Hahaha, that is hilarious.
Ok guys - weird happenings, i use a usb cable from my desktop pc to charge my N4 at times. I had been sitting it on top of the pc tower & it has fallen onto the laminate floor 3 times and came out without injury. So i thought it was vibration from my pc tower, so i have been sitting the phone on my pc desk surface, today i found the phone hanging half way across the edge of the desk. There is no serious vibration to mention from my pc or desk, the phone has not been ringing for the phone vibrate to cause it either. So does anyone else have any paranormal activity with their N4 strangely falling off surfaces??
only thing i notice is the glass bottom surface is very slidey
This has been a problem since day one. Put a rear screen protector on. That'll fix you up.
this is the reason I bought a bumper when I ordered mine
Yeah, that's not paranormal I'm afraid, the back is very slippery, the device can and does slide even with no vibrations at all. Just make sure to place something in the surroundings of the phone when you leave it charging that can block random slides.
cheers guys, this is surely a bad design, im so lucky no serious damage occurred. Ill buy and try the rear screen protector as im not a fan of phone covers etc, Fingers crossed this does the trick. Many thanks guys for the feedback :good::good: :laugh:

You are charging it with your PC on top of the tower with a cable tugging on it... And you are saying it is bad design? Give me a break.
Try using your charger and maybe put it someplace where the cable will not pull it. This is not rocket science.

I never said i was charging it on top of the pc tower, i sat it there. When its charging its on a flat desk surface as is the charge cable. I have sat the phone on my desk and sat it on top of my wallet and it falls off. So with this phone i will need to be careful how i place it. Of course its a bad design, i should be able to sit my phone flat on a flat surface and not worry about it falling onto the floor. Nexus aint gonna give me a new one if it were to get broken and no warning came with the phone.
oh and you know what, common manners to fellow humans, that aint rocket science :silly:

my n4 has probably fallen/jumped at least 50 times over the past 5 weeks, and its still in perfect condition(no cases or screen guards). luckily, the far majority of falls have been on a carpet, but some have been pretty scary
I can also say that I find mine sliding. It's quite weird actually, from the tests I've done I've noticed that it usually occurs when I have it on my leather couch or my ottoman. Yes, I know it's not a desk but the phone is sitting there rather level. It has also done it on my home desk as well, but not at my work desk (yes, both desks are level). It kind of reminds me of an air hockey table type situation. If you have it on your desk and push it, it doesn't require as much work as lets say an SGS3, Galaxy Nexus, or Blackberry to move. Basically the way it's designed causes it to not create much friction between it and the surface it is on.
Although, none of this bothers me since the phone is a fricken beaut.

Better get a thicker skin quicker as you're dealing with a lot of teenagers in these forums. Its like playing WoW, way too many prepubescent teens.
guys, it's not the phone. It's the surfaces you're placing it on. Most tables/desks are nice, smooth and shiny. Combine that with the glass and a NOT SO PERFECTLY FLAT SURFACE and you get falls
Trust me...it's not voodoo or non-Newtonian physics
Just get any cheap gel case and you're set. I actually got a brilliant one for 2 GBP Really nice looking and with really really grippy sides.

I don't like that video. As have been told, they didn't record it straight without video cutting also they didn't show if it works between falls, they didn't try to call if problem is only with display. If I want to guess what is wrong with that device I would rather say that only ribbon cable don't have good connection than device is broken.
You should understand guys that these people are sponsored. They might be getting so much from apple or sammy or lg, or even nokia. They need to make the competition look bad so that people would look the other way around. Sometimes they use these kinds of diversion "Oh I'm really surprised that the phone is holding up so well. The screen might be broken, chassis is junk, back plate/plastic/glass is also broken, but on the lighter side the phone still works flawlessly." ORR "This phone works quite well, but I just can't accept the fact that the loudspeaker isn't good enough."
About the loudspeaker diversion, they're just looking for something negative for their closing remarks. Because that's what usually sticks to people, the closing remarks.
Well, and one should always remember that one instance is no guarantee for other instances...
In these drop tests it can matter quite a bit if the angle in which the phone hits the pavement is just that bit off, or whatever other random influence. It is just AN indication, some ppl drop their phone once and it's immediately shattered. Others drop the same phone 10 times wth only minor dents as a result.
But my response was mainly because people shout "FAKE" or "PHOTOSHOPPED" at just about every video or picture posted on the internet, it was nothing personal @gm007

SEVERAL TIMES? Dude, no offense, but are you retarded? after the first time, did you not think to yourself "maybe this isnt the best place to put the phone"?
And for the people saying about being fake? what? why would it be? a) the unit was probably free from sony anyway.. if not then b) the views they get on youtube for that video most likely pays for the cost of the phone. and c) they do this drop test with most of the phones they review. so remind me again why this could be fake?
The reason they didn't show the phone working after each drop, is probably coz it broke after the first drop, which meant that there was no point in carrying on with the drop test. And they wanted to carry on with the drop tests. That's all!! Stop with the bribing nonsense.

Can anyone comment on this topic? Reviews on sites seem to really knock the outdoor visibility with these watches so I just wanted some opinions from some real users. It seems reviews continue to knock these devices but a lot of individual reviews from users on sites seem to praise the device and people just seem real happy with them. What's your guys take on this? I'm going to be picking up the Gear Live but it seems both have this issue.
Also for any Gear users, feel free to chime in about the charging method. That seems to be talked about a lot as well but sometimes you never know with these official review sites. I value actual users opinions more.

All the reviews that state the watch face is hard to see outside are stupid. It's obviously hard to see when the screen is dimmed, but as soon as you tilt your wrist and the screen turn on you can see it perfectly even in the brightest sunlight.
Yeah I figured a lot of them over exaggerate that topic. I mean my phone is hard to see in direct sunlight. These types of screens will always be difficult.

It's not bad, but of course it's not the same as if it was cloudy out. There is no phone where the visibility isn't slightly decreased in the direct sun. But we can still see the phone to use most importantly. But regardless, that is good to know about the gear live. I really want this watch. How do you feel about the charger port? Everyone keeps saying wait for the 360, but you know what, its August 1st and no announcement has been made. I'm tired of waiting and want to join in on the fun.

I find performance in the rain to be more of an issue.
While trying to track my rides with Strava the rain often closes the app, swipes away cards and generally plays hell with the watch.
There are a couple of screen lock apps but then you can't actually unlock the screen with wet fingers.

How would a screen protector help? Water is simply highly conductive so that's why the watch goes all crazy. Only way to avoid it is to keep it dry or at least make sure there is no water connecting the touch screen with your skin

It was just a suggestion. Some screen protectors actually decrease the sensitivity of the screen. We Dont notice it really but maybe it would help prevent a couple rain drops from messing with the screen. Doesn't matter though lol. Not sure how in the future they can correct this besides your suggestions.

Theres a few phones that are actually designed for you to be able to use underwater. When they recognize water they change the input method from capacitive to pressure I doubt anyone is going to do that on the watch though. And about the screen protectors: If they lower the sensitivity you will run into problems when it's not raining xD

I thought about the G watch but absolute no best buy has that in stock. So sense they're basically the same watch, I'll just opt in for the cheaper one. Plus at night when my watch is displaying the time, I just want the time to light up. Don't like the idea that the whole screen still lights up. But I still want to try the G watch. Maybe they'll get them in at some point.

That sucks, my nearby Best Buys all have plenty in stock (last I looked a few days ago). Why not just order one from the website? The only real reason I went with the G Watch is because of the magnetic charger...much, much better than the Live's. I do wish it had an OLED display though. But this is just supposed to hold me over to the moto360, provided it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
