Stock email app sucks!! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Is it just me or does the stock email app really suck! using it for 2 accounts (imap) sometimes picks mail up, sometimes doesn't.... & how slow & laggy is it?
Is there another way?

Hi,
There are several options in the play store. For example; Moxiar Mail, K-9 Email, Enhanced Email & Aquamail, etc.
I personally like the stock app because it's the only one that gives me the option to add multiple exchange accounts, which I need.
On the other hand, one of the negative points about the stock app is that except for the inbox, all other folder shows between brackets, then number of emails inside the folder instead of the number of unread emails! This makes my life difficult when receiving multiple emails in different folders. I can't know in which folder it is unless I knew exactly how many emails in each folder I had before receiving the new emails!

Aqua Mail is great

Samsung email app does suck.
Rich text editing is horribly broken.
Can't insert an image. It shows in edit mode, but after sent, the picture is shown as "missing" with a broken image icon.
I might as well go to K9...

GMAIL Label Push/Notification BROKEN?

There's been some sporadic posts of this around the net, but nothing concrete.
I've got a AWS N1 on WIND Mobile (Canadian company) and GMAIL push works perfectly fine (basically instantaneous) if emails lands in my Inbox.
If however, email lands in a Gmail Label (that is set to auto-archive, ie. bypass the inbox and go directly into the label), the N1 will NOT notify me that I have new mail.
So basically:
Email ---> Inbox = Notification
Email ---> Label (w/ archiving) = NO Notification
Has anyone noticed this before? Is this just the way Gmail functions on the N1?

Well, that's how Gmail works... on your PC.
Ok, gmail labels are somewhat confusing, so I'll explain how they work with an example:
Open up gmail.com on your PC.
Send an email to yourself that will get autoarchived.
Will the email show up in your inbox?
No, because it's autoarchived.
So why would you get a notification on your phone if you don't get a new email in your inbox?
Get rid of the auto-archiving if you want the notifications to pop up.
Notifications on your phone mirror your INBOX.

Which leads to a problem i occassionally have; I have my Gmail box set up for multiple inboxes; everything from my MAIN Gmail address comes into the inbox, as well as everything from 3 other gmail address; the other three however, are autolabeled upon receipt respectively; every so often, I'll get an email on one of these 3 emails. My N1 will show that I have an unread email (across the top, it'll say "Inbox (1)"), but I can't see the actual new msg. I'll then log into my main gmail account on the PC, and sure enough I have a new email in my inbox, with both the "inbox" and alternate label applied. Once I mark it as read or delete it, my N1 then shows that I have (0) unread msgs. It's random, and doesn't apply to just any single email address I have funneled into my main Gmail Inbox. I'm at a bit of a loss. If anyone has any constructive ideas (besides "don't use multiple inboxes), I'd love to hear them.

Changes labels to all mail, then change back to inbox.
You'll see the unread one there.
Thank's for straightening that out Paul.
I figured as much, but just wanted to be sure I wasn't experiencing some weird glitch. It's a little bit of a pain to have all mail in the inbox as it really does clutter up the place.
Oh well...
This did get me thinking though. Since the GMAIL app is basically running all the time on the phone, would it not be possible to write code that would have the GMAIL app issue a notification when it receives an email that goes straight into a label and not the inbox? Especially if that label is set to sync.

Unfortunately, Google Apps (like Gmail) are closed-source. Not much anyone can do with em.
You might be able to use the secondary Mail app to add Gmail as POP or IMAP and it might give notifications for other labels, not sure.

HTC email & exchange folders

I tried to search but could not find anything.
On my exchange email, I've got multiple folders and emails are sent to the different folders directly.
In HTC email program, I can look at other folders and see unread email there but I can't see unread emails (and get notifications) across all folders, except of course if I missed a configuration?
That's the way it works. If you've got rules to move mails to Exchange folders you won't get new mail notifications. Same thin happens if you use Outlook as the email client, you won't get any notification for mails that got to folders.
What bugs me is that if you hit menu->folders then the unread count isn't shown there - unless I'm missing something

I also am trying to figure this out. I basically want the ability to receive and be notified of all emails including all subfolders. Regarding Fed's comment, I agree that's how it's supposed to work, but in Outlook you can set a rule to display a notification. In my Outlook I set that as the top most rule for all incoming email so I get a notification no mater what rule runs. Even my BBerry allowed me to select folders that were also monitored and hence a notification and email were recieved. HTC however doesn't seem to have an option to do this. It actually sounds like you guys are getting a step further. If I select menu --> folders I see the folders, but not the email within the folders. Anyone know how to setup notifications and receive email for subfolders in exchange on the HTC?
I want to add that before I used Touchdown and touchdown can show emails from all selected folders.
Are follow-ups working for you (mine are auto-flagged in outlook)?
For info, I've asked the question to HTC. Good news, they replied.
Bad news...
There is no setting for notifications on new mails in servers specifiaclly, If you are using a Windows Mobile based phone you can set these folders to be synchronized and on new mails in these folders you should get a notification upon new mails. On our Android based devices there is sadly enough no way to do this.

[Q] HTC Mail IMAP folder deleted message transfer

I am currently using default HTC mail app, and I really like it all in all.
Currently it's set up with two IMAP accounts, each on different server.
I am having issues with one of them.
While my private one works great, the issue that I have with work one is that when I delete msg from Inbox it disappears from everywhere.
So if I check phones Trash folder only msgs from my private one are there, my work ones have disappeared into thin air.
I opened another test account on my work email server and the behavior is the same.
Did any1 have the same issue, or maybe has an idea how to fix this?
I see no place to set up IMAP folders on HTC Mail app.
iPhone had great configuration options when it came to folder organization.
Also, K9 and Improved Mail handle deleting emails off that account with no problem...it shows up in their internal own Trash folder.
I like the look of HTC Mail very much, that's why I don't want to switch...

[Q] Stock Mail App Question

I'm using the stock mail app for my works exchange email. I have lots of rules set up to deliver different messages to different folders (this is set up through Outlook NOT Android). On my EVO3D i was able to view only my "Unread" messages, which made it A LOT easier to filter through things. I can't seem to find that functionality on my new S4. Does anyone know if this is possible?

[Q] Strange e-mail/message behaviors

OK, had the S4A for about a week. Lots to like coming from my S2, but a few niggling things that irk me.The main one is the e-mail app notifications. I had the combined Inbox on my S2, but all it ever showed me on the widget was when there were new e-mails. For some reason, the S4A also combines the new text messages count into the e-mail widget icon making it look as if there are new e-mails. Even if I read the text messages they still pop up in the widget count until I also delete them through the e-mail app. This is annoying as hell, obviously. Is there any way to turn this behavior off? I only want to see a message count on the e-mail widget for actual e-mails. What's the point of having messages show up in the e-mail app? I can't do anything but read and delete them (doesn't delete the actual message, just its appearance in the e-mail app). I still have to go to the messaging app to reply, forward, etc.
The other problem is the e-mail app itself. I have Push turned off and one of my accounts set to manual retrieval. Still, it downloads e-mail without me doing anything. I have to turn off sync completely to stop it, which is a pain as I have to remember to turn it on to retrieve e-mails and then it gets everything going back 24 hours (minimum setting) whether it is new or not. This using an Outlook account. If e-mail retrieval is set to manual why would the phone retrieve e-mails as if set to push? It should do nothing regardless of whether sync is on or not. That's how it worked on my S2.
TIA
Nothing? Could someone just verify that this is the way their S4A works, as well? It just makes no sense to me why it does this.
