I am really hoping Google will pick a phone like the ASUS Padfone Infinity. I am still surprise only one seriously looking at one device for all.
PS: Motorola Atrix one somewhat the exception but we all know how that turned out
Nothing official yet! But usually in the Fall.
Normally new nexus device are announce at google i/o but no devices wre announced so doubt any new ones will come out this year, maybe early next year
June 26th.

Hi all,
the nexus 7 is my first nexus device (although I am drooling at the nexus 4 ),
but I was just wondering if anyone else, who has owned a different nexus device, could tell me how long you normally have to wait for the next version of android?.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Some of the features will be available on the Nexus 7, some won't and you'll need to get a whole new device costing a small fortune to get the full update. It might break things along the way without giving you a way back.
....but then I remember it's Android and not Apple!

..... I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say here.
Being part of the whole Nexus line, there's a good chance we'll get 4.2 pushed out when the Nexus 4 and 10 get released. Google will be keen to have its flagship line all under the same version.

I agree. Google made it pretty clear (to me at least) that the Nexus line will be receiving the 4.2 update. There was absolutely no mention of Nexus 7 not receiving certain aspects of the update. I would say that Nexus 7 would receive the update the same day the 4 and 10 are released as well.

This is a joke for you guys who don't get it. All Nexus devices get updated I think. I think even old ones like the Nexus S and all that.
Lol well if he meant it as a joke it didn't read like one. Especially since a new device owner was asking about something he deemed a legit concern. If it was meant as a joke then my fault.

I agree. Pretty dumb answer to someone asking a legitimate question.
Google was supposed to release the 4,2 update on October 29th, but according to Asus it has been delayed ever so slightly.Asus says to expect an update to android 4.2 very soon.

Looking forward to it. People aren't used to nexus devices, they are used to their galaxy tabs that take forever to update and get cut off too soon

My friend is still on stock N7 and got the update within a week. My dad is still on his stock S3 and the update won't come till next year.
Edit: I'm referring to 4.1.2 and 4.1.

I think you are confusing 4.1.2 with 4.2.
As far as I know, no one will have 4.2 before 13 November.

Expect android 4.2 on November 11th to November 12th on the nexus 7
Hi,
Thanks heaps guys, as long as we with the n7 arnt left in the lurch for weeks after the update comes out on the n4
My friend has a nexus s, and he had to wait a few weeks after 4.1 was released before he got it, but our devices are newer I suppose
Thanks
Cheers

Unless you sideload, don't expect it on the 13th. OTA rolling updates can take up to a couple of weeks.

Got a reliable source on that? I'm guessing no because it's not true. Google has never released an OS on the day it was announced, and when they announce a new device, they never release the OS for older hardware until the new device is available. So the correct answer is to expect the update in the weeks following the N4/N10 release. Hopefully it will be out within a week, but it can take longer.
Google has said they will start rolling out 4.2 from Nov 11th, 2 days before new devices release.
Since there were news reports earlier this year that Google wanted to produce multiple Nexus devices/phones. Not sure if they meant the Nexus tablets, by Asus and Samsung instead. Someone, anyone? :good:
I think the rumours were to different devices but they never said if it was other phones or tablets etc. I think LG will be the only nexus phone brand this year.

That's good, because now my mom wants a Nexus tablet.
If you want a nexus tablet, buy one now. Don't wait 6 months. If you're going to wait that long for the next best thing, you'll always be disappointed in the end.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yeah there's no point in trying to keep up with technology. You will ALWAYS lose that race. If you want a Nexus 7 buy one now and worry about the new one whenever that time comes. Sumthin bigger and better is always around the corner.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Enjoy your device... New models will always come. I sell it and buy new one or give previous model as gift to my relatives.
Since the N7 is pretty cheap anyway you could use it for 6 months and even if you sell it for half price you will still have got 6 months of use out of it so why wait?

in some digital magazines i have seen information about another model nexus 7 but with more processor, more RAM, more power
Do you guys think that google is gonna stick with ASUS for the next nexus 7?:silly:
Maybe, within the next i/o 2013, nexus 7 with tegra 4 could break cover. Hah...

I just read that the nexus 4's production has been stopped by lg because they are working on a new nexus device. Has anyone heard anything about this?

if you read it online than most likely it's true...
http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/4229...4-buy-price-supply-successor.htm#.UO-meGfjFek
It's true
The nexus device is supposed to be only 1 device supported by Google. Not create a whole line of nexus products to get rich off of, way to screw over the people who waited desperately for this phone and/or stuck in shipping limbo
Sent from Nexus 4
This will be the single most outrageous thing I've ever read about a smart phone. The phone sells for two hours in total over like 4 months and they kill it for a new phone. They should have just haulted the N4 altogether.

That the most retarded site and article i ever read... It was so bad My PC cleared its own History and Cookies after loading the site.
well... nothing's really happened for a month outside of the US...
I highly doubt that is true since so many people are still waiting to buy it why would you stop selling it? And T-Mobile is said to start carrying it at every location.

Look everyone. This person talks common sense, and he does it in a thread without any.
XDA may catch fire.
They are assuming a lot in that article...i dont doubt that LG may be working on the next nexus but the writer takes the leap from a quote that says LG is going to release it's next gen phone at WMC to it being the next nexus. I bet LG is going to be releasing some new Optimus phone but not the N4 successor. Even the writer states that the halt in production are just rumors. LG barely launched the nexus 4 as is, maybe they are working on a 5+ inch Nexus. Here's to hoping there's going to be a nexus 5, 6, 8, and 9 to complete the nexus line.
Well duh obviously LG is gonna show off some prototypes and tech at wmc. I'd be more worried if they didn't announce anything. Besides all the stuff from wmc well be lucky to see in stores by Q4.

Nahh... Not gonna happen. LG just can't keep up that's all..
I was more interested in the get rich quick penny stock article. Or maybe the other sensationalistic crap on that site. Too bad I can't get back the two minutes I wasted there...shame shame...
Sent from my Nexus 7
Uhm, this is essentially the content of the article: "rumours have it that the company seized the production of the smartphone to focus on the development of its future offerings", the rest is just a speculation.
If "rumours have it" == "it's true" then yeah, we will see the new nexus phone next month, sure.
Lol. Just lol.

BS, I don't work for LG and the only thing I can confirm to be true is that, I love my nexus 4 more than any of my previous android phones (Hero, Desire HD, Sensation, Evo 3D, One X)......
LG called me directly, saying that Nexus 4 production is stopped cause all the people working at Lg's production lines is currently at the Bahamas,on the beach...

I saw a great deal on CL for a 16gb Nexus 4 for $250 and is tempted to buy it but having a hard time deciding whether to get it or wait for the Nexus 5. What are the chances that a new nexus phone will be released by the end of this year?
pretty high, expect it around october.
I think a new nexus should be on the way oct-nov. I thunk google is still commited to nexus devices even with the moto x coming out.
