Please help me out here. With Titanium Backup everything backs up except my Wifi Access Points XML. If fails every time through running from batch.
Also tried from the menu 'Special Backup' > 'Backup data to XML' and TiBa crashes.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm rooted with superSU v1.3, Stock recovery, kernel and rom, TiBa pro and up to date. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't worry too much, TiBu should back it up in binary as well... at least mine does. During a restore it gives you the option to use the XML or Binary backup.

Thanks. Is there anyway to confirm a binary backup? Do you possibly know the filename so I can look for it in my backup folder? I have alot of WiFi access points stored so i'd like to not have to ask everyone around town for the passwords again if I can avoid it.

Look inside TiBu under the Backup/Restore tab, and scrool down to Wifi Access Points. Your should have one that says XML to the right and one above it that says 101 (or binary)

Well I feel considerably noobish for not noticing that, though I was sorting the list by backup date so it wasn't right above. Thanks for pointing that out.
One more question if you know, will the binary backup restore on custom ROM's and even newer phones in the future? Or is the XML a safer route for such things, in which case I would need to figure out why it's broken. Thanks again.

That I don't know.
However titanium backup has a great support team. Try the developer site.

I too have the same exact issue that you described. I reached out to the support team... no response yet, but I will update this thread if I ever come across a resolution. Please do the same since I'm in the same boat and I would be interested in hearing any updates.

Unfortunately no news yet. Hoping it will be resolved in next app update. Really would like to have the XML backup.

no news here either... also hoping for a fix in the next update.
I've been having the same problem for a while now. I think it could very well be related to our phone's build.prop because just today, I did a full backup and it finally backed up my wifi access points. It even restored it with no problems..
Note: I made the backup on the 4.2.2 Odexed GE ROM and restored it on the 4.2.2 Deodexed Kangabean ROM.

Add me to the list of people getting an Error message when trying to back up the XML version of the Wi-Fi Access Points file. I never like getting error messages, so I hope there is a fix. Would be nice if there were an easy way to tell TiBu to ignore this file.
I am on CleanRom 1.65.

TiBa is at least backup up WiFi in a binary backup, which is fine as long as you stay on the same device. It may not restore on a different device though, hence why I want the XML to work!
I have the same problem. Currently no solution.

Same XML issue here - surprised TiBu has not fixed it yet...
Anyways, I have been simply backing up the data file itself.
from root: data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf is the file you want. Back that up to your computer or MicroSD and then use it to restore your wifi whenever necessary. Just overwrite the file. Can't remember if reboot is necessary afterwards but I don't think so.

Nice very clever. I tried restoring it just for kicks and it worked. I just dropped it in the folder, overwrote it, fixed permissions, then rebooted. Worked great. Nice.
On the other hand, I do hope that the Titanium team does fix this soon. It must have something to do with this device because it worked fine until I switched to the S4 from the S3 and when I moved my backup folder over to my new device it wouldn't restore.

Yeah...I was expecting the bug to be fixed in the latest update...but when I didn't see it in there, I kind of lost hope for it.
Odd since the Galaxy S4 is kind of a popular Android device you know...lol
Anyways, glad my method worked for you. I never actually bothered fixing permissions and haven't had any issues thus far.

After I flashed CM7 (after a full wipe) Titanium won't restore any apps or data. I made sure unknown sources was checked and made sure I had root and superuser running. I went to the online troubleshooting guide and followed the instructions to change the settings within the app also. Updated busybox and used fix permissions in Rom Manager and no luck. It worked fine on the nightly builds and worked great on Mikshift 1.0 and 1.1. I need to be able to restore my Battle.net authenticator on my phone for Warcraft but I need to be able to restore the data also or it won't work. Any ideas or insight on how to fix this issue or do a manual restore of the app and data would be great. I have the stock Rom and Mikshifts Roms backed up but I'd like to run CM7. Titanium works fine on the other roms and restores the apps and data like normal.

Are you running the Pro version of Ti Backup? If so, I read that it still has issues with CM7. Specifically, the batch one-click restore of apps+data isn't working. I read there is a setting somewhere to change it to a manual one-by-one app restore as a temporary workaround.
Titanium Backup>Menu>Prefrences>(Under Troubleshooting)App Processing Mode>Interactive Mode.
Try that and it should work...
I wondered if that was the problem, still not sure but nothings worked so far.

Only restores the app, I need the data so the app is sync'ed to Battle.nets servers like the original install or I can't log onto WOW with this rom running on my phone. A fresh install prompts you to sync all over again and the authenticator is useless if you haven't removed the old authenticator. I could removed the authenticator and reinstall it on the CM rom and then make another backup so I could use it across all the roms I already have saved (I like to jump around) but that's a lot of work.

If you made the backup with each app's data (it should, be default), it should be restored with data by default. I don't know why yours isn't doing that :/

The only only thing it'll do is restore in interactive mode which uses the stock android installer....so it only uses the apk file and doesn't pull any data with it. I've never has issues with titanium before on any device that couldn't easily be fixed. Still stumped lol. It does show a different version of busybox installed than all my other working versions show, and after using the busybox app from the market it still shows the old version. I've tried fresh installs of titanium and the CM7 rom and no luck. Guess I'll hold off and try to contact the developer or wait for updates. Shouldn't be long.

this is only an issue for the battle.net that puts a new serial with a new install. the Classic installer DOES restore data.
Once you have your battle.net restored the first time and it doesnt work, go back to Ti Backup, click restore and then choose Data only.
Should solve your problem. Please don't misinform others that Ti Backup doesn't work. It does, I promise, I use it often. It might appear that is only installing app, but it installs all data too (My angry birds better follow me!)
We had this issue and ran through a bunch of ways, and foudn that the method described above does work.

I tried your method and IT WILL NOT RESTORE DATA ON MY DEVICE on my CM7 rom period. I even downloaded the rom again I've done fresh installs and full wipes and as stated before it works fine for the older versions and Mikshift roms. Thanks for the flame though....that why I hate to ask for help here.

Will you please try it one more time? Cosine83 had the exact same problem and it was fixed following the advice Riggs already gave you.
Go into Titanium preferences and change Apps Processing Mode to Interactive. Then restore battle.net via Titanium. After you've restored it again select it in Titanium and hit Restore. When it asks you if you want app+data or data only choose data only.

Sometimes TB just won't restore anything in CM7 if the backup was made in Sense. But backups made in CM7 work fine in Sense. Kind of weird. Had to manually restore data without TB, jesusice.

I've tried it lol I will try again. Quick question though, what version of busybox is showing in TB for you guys in your CM7 installs? Mine starts out with 1.16.2 and when I download busybox it rolls back to 1.16.0. It will not accept the new 1.18.? versions of busybox. I wondered if that was causing it.

I'm using Busybox 1.16.0.
Are you sure you're using Interactive (Classic Android installer) for all of this. Before you mentioned that there was a circle that was spinning and not stopping.
If you haven't restarted since that, you have to go and kill the Ti Backup process before trying any of this. We'll get your problem solved don't worry.
I got it. I swear the only thing I did was swap an old 2gig sd card into the phone and made a new backup from my Mikshift rom then a fresh install of CM7. I installed an old version (couple weeks old) of Titanium from a backup I made with Astro. And it worked right off the bat. Still had to go over every app and install it and then the data but I can live with that. Sorry if I got fussy earlier, I'm just not used to getting stumped like that lol. Thanks guys for all the help but I think its just my janky phone being a PITA. Its been kinda buggy since I got it.

You don't even need to do that second step.
While set to "Interactive mode", pick restore app + data. Once the plain-jane Android installer is done, CLICK DONE. Next, Titanium Backup will automatically restore that app's data, just like you told it to.
Unless this issue is specific to the "battle.net" app, this process has worked for me every time, with every app I've tried.

Not exactly. This is an alternative to another backup tool, nandroid, which is an image backup of your entire Android installation (not just apps and data like Tiranium). If you restore a nandroid everything is exactly the way you had it at the time you backed it up: settings, preferences, apps, data, etc.
this is like using clockworkmod but with out rebooting
So it backs up everything boot/ sys/ data/ cache/ like clockworkmod but no rebooting needed for lazy people like me lol

I would actually recommend starting with a normal nandroid backup from your already-installed recovery, instead of using this alternative, first. That way you can get used to the normal way of doing things before changing it up with this. Both TWRP and CWM have the backup ability; just look for "backup" somewhere. The backup is saved on the mounted sdcard, inside /sdcard/clockworkmod. For the recovery method, unless you go in and delete your backups, it's pretty much idiot-proof. Just find the backup option in recovery, perhaps change a couple options like the file name, and hit backup.

OP's alternative allows you do do that very same backup without rebooting into recovery, so you can keep using the Touchpad while it does a backup.

Hello!
I've just decided to start experimenting with custom ROMs on my new GS4, and I've been trying to begin by backing up all the crucial stuff on my stock device.
When it comes to backing up my 'efs', however, nothing works for me at all. I've tried doing it with Terminal Emulator and a bunch of different commands, all of which come up with errors, and I've tried doing it through custom recoveries like CWM and TWRP.
When I try to do it with the custom recoveries, the process ends almost instantly and it's impossible for me to find the backup files anywhere when I connect my phone to my PC - according to the custom recovery menus, the backups also have virtually no filesize.
My phone is currently running stock TouchWiz 4.2.2, it's rooted and I'm also using Nova launcher. In the past I installed PACMAN ROM but returned to stock by re-installing my old stock firmware with Odin.
Any help would be appreciated - I really wanna let loose and keep experimenting with Android!

Any help would be appreciated - I really wanna let loose and keep experimenting with Android!

I think I've made some success! I can now see my TWRP efs backup files when I connect my phone to my PC... but they're very small. An entire backup folder is only 50.9KB in size. Is this typical for an EFS backup?
Search for EFS Professional on xda. It's a great application that backs up your EFS folder and stores it on your computer where you can restore it if necessary. Simply download it, make sure you have root and busybox installed, along with the Samsung drivers, when it loads, select backup, choose the i9505 filter, choose the partition block which has EFS on the end, and click backup, job done!
The file you may have backed up might be alright, but I've read about the permissions for the folder not being correct, this application ensures everything is ok.

Thanks for your quick response. I'll give that application a whirl now and see how it works for me. On the side, though, I've noticed that each efs backup I've done with TWRP has a slightly different size (deviation of around 3KB each time). Is this, and the fact that each backup is only ~50KB in size normal?
Thanks again for you time!

Edit - my EFS partition is only 36KB, whereas the backup on my i9100 was 135KB. The application said the backup was completed successfully, so I'm happy enough. It must be that small.

I'll check my backup on my computer now to see what the file size is. As far as I can remember, it may be around that size, and I noticed that the partition is a lot smaller than the i9100 partition.

I'm attempting this method now using EFS Professional 2.0.46 and the instructions here (http://www.galaxys4manual.com/tips-backup-and-restore-efs-folder-in-samsung-android-devices/). I've installed BusyBox and enabled USB debugging, but EFS Professional keeps giving me this error:
"readlink: applet not found. Please install a BusyBox binary that contains the required applet. BusyBox v1.20.2-Stericson is recommended for compatibility."

Download the busybox installer from the play store made by Stericson, open it, give it root access, when the install busybox option comes up, select the version EFS Professional application suggests, then try again.
Also, I did post the file size for my backup but it clearly didn't work, it was only 36KB.

Thank you yet again for your help. I've now got the correct version of BusyBox running and EFS Professional seems to be interfacing with it happily. At this point I realize that the site I linked gives incredibly poor instructions on how to run the EFS Pro program.
I've screencaptured my current situation: http://i.imgur.com/CgHZdiM.png
Do I want to tick only the box with the 'efs' partition name, or do I also want to include the three below it with 'efs' included in the middle of a bunch of other letters and numbers?

See I wasn't sure either, so I've asked on the applications thread on xda here. For the record, I didn't even notice the other three had efs in them, and I only chose the one that has efs at the end. I'll update if any news comes back from the application thread. Also, a simple click of the thanks button is appreciated

Well it turns out you select all of the partitions and then back up. I've never done this, and I clearly have never been doing this right. Time to make another back up haha.

Looks like we both got something out of this, then! I appreciate your time and input - I was losing my mind over all the obstacles I was running into. Gave you all the thumbs up I could.
Cheers!
EDIT: Oh, wait! Do you mean that you have to select ALL partitions or just those that mention efs in their names?

For some reason it doesn't seem to work. When I look at the play store reviews, they say that Titanium Backup doesn't work well restoring apps with 4.3. For me it just hangs at 0%. 4.3 has been out for a while, what have people been using?

Hi, andrewdroid...
Yes, I've just been looking at the reviews you mention, and I must admit, I'm puzzled.
I've been running Jellybean 4.3 (recently updated to build JWR66Y) since the beginning of August, and I've had no problems with restoring apps from Titanium.
I recall, during the first few days of JB 4.3, there where issues with Titanium, and the recommended advice was to change the backup path (where you're backups are stored) as follows...
Go to... Titanium>>Menu>>Backup folder location...
...and navigate (using the back button) to /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup ...and select 'Use the current folder'.
And at the time, this worked for me. But subsequent updates to Titanium fixed the problem, and my backup path is now the more technically correct /storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup.
Titanium will offer to move the files to the new location, but in the event, nothing actually gets moved, because the locations are actually identical... just different ways of specifying the same location.
So, you could try modifying your backup path location in Titanium settings as outlined above, using either of the two 'paths' I've given. I've just tried both, and in both instances, my backups restored flawlessly.
I've no idea if this will work for you, but I do know there was an issue back in the early part of August, and the 'legacy' path fixed it for me... maybe it might for you.
Hope this helps... and good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Just completed my first root and flashed my tablet to cyanogenmod. I'd like to thank this community for making it so simple. It seemed like a lot of reading but every instruction had a purpose and i understood it more as the process went along. I had no problem throughout the process due to the very detailed instructions here on this forum.
However, I seem to have made one mistake. I used TiBu to backup my apps and data. However, i failed to make the update.zip folder as i didn't think about losing the app when i flashed to the new rom. When i check my device, there is a huge titanium backup folder.
Is there a way i can restore my apps and data from the tibu folder, or did i lose it all by not creating the update.zip folder?
Im afraid to just reinstall TiBu in case it overwrites the old folder.
This is the only problem I had with the whole process and appreciate any help or suggestions.

Rename the huge titanium backup folder, install TiBu, delete new folder and rename huge titanium backup folder back to original name.
Hi guys,
Today I updated my Note 3 from Omega V6 to V11, I got it wrong a couple times so had to full wipe twice or so and restart the process.
Beforehand I had done a titanium backup, cwm backup. I copied them onto my lappy, with the efs backup also.
Once I had Omega v11 installed I booted into cwm and tried to restore from my backup, this sent me into a bootloop so I started the process again. This time I tried restoring from titanium backup and it did a great job, but my picture gallery is missing alot of photos and photos I had in hide it pro are gone.
I tried restoring hide it pro and gallery in titanium backup as a single restore task/job and still didn't do the trick.
I'm guessing the reason why I go into a bootloop when I tried to restore from cwm is because my backup was from 4.3 and now I'm on 4.4.2?
Is that right?
The day before I actually went from v5 to v6 so maybe that's why my hide pro files are gone? because omega installed it again?
After I had installed v6 I deleted my v5 backup files and made new ones.
Unfortunately I didn't check my files after installing v6 and I deleted my old backups without thinking, so I'm not sure if they were there after a v6 install.
I know I should have done a manual backup, lesson learnt, I had alot of sentimental photos I was meant to share but hadn't gotten around to it yet..
Is there anyway I can get my files back? Or anyway I can restore from my cwm backup?
Thank you.
Go into titanium backup but mind that you will need the pro edition as long as i can remember, press menu key and see under special backup and restore
Extract from Nandroid Backup .
CLICK that and choose the backup you did using cwm and find your desire app
I hope this works for you . I hate it when VAULT or such apps loose your pics when you upgrade the app itself

Unfortunately that didn't work, I'm assuming the pictures were deleted from when I went from v5 to v6. Going to try and recover my deleted backups from my MacBook. Thank you again for you help, will report back if successful!

Took me a while but I found the thanks button haha, I wasn't logged in..
Several data recovery apps later could not recover my previous backup, lesson learnt.
Thank you anyway, I appreciate you help. :highfive:

not sure if this is the same problem that you have but it looks like my phone internal wipes each time I upgrade the Omega ROM where it takes out the internal.
Maybe teaching the 'sucking eggs' thing here but it isn't just a case of the apps are looking at internal memory instead of over on your extSDcard is it? Titanium and many other apps need to be told to save/restore to/from the extSDcard.- maybe it's all sitting there waiting for you to point the apps to the right place?

Thank you for reply, I just checked and there was no titanium backup on my extSDcard, it was on the internal and that's where I copied it from to my mac Thanks anyway!
One more thing guys, I was just browsing through es file explorer and noticed my downloads folder is gone. Does titanium or cwm backup, backup folders? I just tried restoring "Downloads" in titanium backup and extracting from nandroid, and still no Downloads folder in my directory Just wondering maybe if the files are named something else?
Otherwise it was erased when I went from v5 to v6 and backed up the newly erased and clean v6 files, not realising my files are gone.
Thanks
