Ok let me start by saying I like to talk Sh*t to my friends a lot...And when I'm driving or maybe just being lazy and dont want to type a txt I use the voice recognition...Well one thing that really pisses me off is how a $600 phone, wants to decide what words it wants to type. If I say asshole..I want it to spell out "ASSHOLE", not ####hole. Now, although I am a power user I am new to smartphones(this is my first one) Is this something across all androids? Most importantly is there a way for me to get my phone to not treat me like a child?
Someone please help me...I cant believe how mad this is making me.
It's there because they don't wont kids to use it and have the system say "****" when they said "duck."

Hello Peeps
I'm gunna b going to the island Antigua soon in January and would like to know if there's anyone out there that can flash an EVO 4G so I can use my phone while im in the islands. FYI: im gunna b there for quite sum time in case ur wondering
P.S. Also I heard there's a service called lime that's offered there i know this is a cdma fone and that only GSM phones work there I'm not retarded, I'm also aware that CDMA fones are no good there but I would pay u if u can find me a way , like I always say when there's a will there's always a dam way.
(DAM EVO 4G Y WON'T U WORK WITH MY DAM WII REMOTE STUPID BLUETOOTH STACK)
You answered your own question. CDMA phones are no good there. There is no way around that.
On a side note, PLEASE use punctuation and spelling correctly. It doesn't make you look very bright when you talk like that. It could be just me, but I find stuff like that REALLY annoying. ._.
Instead of paying someone for a solution that won't appear anytime soon, why don't you just spend that money on a gsm phone and buy the sim cards for service over there? Is it the 4G service that you want or the wifi tethering you were hoping to utilize?

When I went to Antigua this year I bought an unlocked Blackberry and took it down with me. Just buy a prepaid sim while down there. I was there for 2 weeks so I don't know if you will find it worth your while.

Do a search for a VOIP solution in these forums. I remember reading where someone went to Belize and was able to mod their EVO to work there. Similar situation to yours.
To the lame people who commented that it's impossible: Advancement is only made when it is believed that there is an answer and that is possible. Then you have to keep searching until you find that answer. Don't expect it to be handed to you. Saying something is impossible without trying is just plain lazy. Let go of your mother's tit!

I always use brightroam.com whenever I go overseas.
You can rent everything and have a blackberry or cheapo phone already setup to use over there. It's signficantly cheaper then getting service when you arrive. They mail you the phone, you set it up and take it with you. Plus you can always google coupon codes w/ them. "15AEREWARD" gets you $15 off.

Even with VOIP he's regulated to only WiFi which is a pretty shoddy solution. But hey, that might be good enough for him.
As far as saying it's lame to think it's impossible, unless you open the EVO and physically change the radio, and then update the software to reflect that change, it is. So sure it's not 100% impossible, just impracticable and almost impossible. But hey, now I know who to go to when I want my XBox 360 to play PS3 games.
Lol @ thetakara yea it may be annoying but dis ain't no english class, @ sombdy I like ur enthusiasm im behind u 100%, lmao let go of ur mother's tit lol, i'll look into dat website rutter09. as for bb...yea blackberries not my thing but mite as well go 4 a gsm fone

that has got to be the dumbest response i've ever seen.. str8 up its impossible, regardless of how lazy you think ppl are.. it was an easy call.. its the very reason u havent seen iphones on the verizon network.. its not possible. we're talking two diff technologies (cdma vs gsm) in antigua, all cell companies are gsm..

So don't pursue running cdma on a gsm network. You can run a VOIP hack. That has been done. The point is I see people respond frequently with "that's not possible" when the truth is they just don't know the answer. People are hacking their phones to run on Verizon and boost mobile. What if people had said "that's impossible" before someone found the answer? Pretty dumb.
The point of my post was that it is not constructive to say that it is impossible. The reason for these forums is to help each other find the answers we need.

You are correct. It can be done.
So, I'll admit I have some pet peeves around here. I hate when people assume, though I do it. I hate when people get asked the same question 5x and can't ever answer it simply, and I don't do that. I hate that there is anything 1 click or rom managing and feel that rooting has gone from something for people that want a better understanding and to get the most out of their phones, to something that all the cool kids are doing and then they can't read or comprehend what they did and then EXPECT someone to fix their screw up. I also get creating something and not receiving proper respects, and the fact that most code is copied. Hell, if it wasn't, we'd all still be on dos. Anyway, my point is this, it's even more annoying than all that to open threads that should hold some value just to see everyone comparing the size of their vaginas. So in keeping with valuable threads, everyone should start donating Xanax and tampax instead of PayPal and maybe we can get back to telling people to use search 50x a day or something?

Haha ya bad bad bad as I look back everything I have done this was rreally stupid I was on Xanax and ya rooting ur phone shouldn't b because it cool it should b because u love the advanced things we can do on our phones and wanna make the possibilities endless one click roots haha I mean whats tthe fun n that honestly

And if some of you devs could start working some miracles, gingerbread and awesome themes and overclocking and fireratting and rooting are all great, but if you could part the seas and turn some water into wine all while reciting the Gettysburg address and standing on your head, then that would be something great to see on YouTube. Honestly though, thank you for making instructions better than IKEA. Stupid pictures with no words. How much expense could words really add after you've already paid for some child laborer to draw for you?
~maybe I set it too high...
Ok, take a Xanax n calm down... LOL. seriously tho. I feel ya, one click root should be banned. Sum ppl just shouldn't be messin with things when they have no clue what they're getting into!

I used a one click root about 9 months ago, it worked for me and I have learned a tremendous amount since then. I understand the thought that it can sometimes breed lazy root users but often it can be a tool to expedite the process and set a firm foundation for what the user will ultimately learn. This, of course, is not always the case but grouping one click rooters in to the lazy/stupid category isn't necessarily accurate either.
Since my one-click root I've dabbled into many different roms, found the ones I liked, changed recoveries a few times, used apps2sd and data2ext (ext4 and ext2) before finally finding the setup that matches my needs the best.
I understand that getting the same question 100 times is annoying, but remember that we were all new to android at some point. If it weren't for XDA, its community of awesome users, and even more amazing developers I'd be stuck with a bloated, slow Hero. I am by no means an expert now, nor will I ever be, but I learn more every day.

*chuckle* I could vent here also but I've said my peace. I've committed to at least trying to ignore the ignorance. If they don't show the board respect in those small ways then I refuse to help. My time is more valueable. I did recently in fact let it get too me too much and let y3mita try but I did get the better of him and got him banned along with the help of others that reported. Thank you those of you.

Maybe its just me but im not as impressed with my Atrix as i thought i would be. Before this i had a Nexus one and it seemed like it was much faster than the Atrix it just seems like its always lagging a little bit, i can really tell it when i unlock it because it will randomly stop before im done swiping my code. (if that makes since, hard to explain) I would use the Finger Print scanner but that took about 6 times to finally unlock the phone. Last but not least the flash light on the back. I use to use it all the time but now it doesn't work half the time. It will start flashing and dim untill it finally goes dead and doesnt work. It has like a yellow tint to it to. (not sure if that's normal)
Also the dock was a waist of 80$ Its not worth but maybe 10$ I cant even sync the phone up to the computer in it.
I am pretty much in love with mine... No lag, no random restarts, no troubles from the flash, zero problems. I am rooted and using GingerBlur 4.5 ATM. Maybe try modding it some.
i think we need a separate sub-forum for unhappy users. that way I dont have to read them
I think the Atrix is GREAT. I have owned it for a few months and at the same time bought and returned the HTC Inspire, SGS2 and the HTC Sensation. It beat them ALL IMHO. especially in battery life, sound quality and loudness, and general ability to run anything I install without a hitch. It is fast but not over-tuned (and lacking torque when it matters). For example, I play a lot of video and onyl the Atrix plays everything without a stutter. OK its camera isnt as good as SGS2, but its good enough. I like its screen the most of all the devices (its the birghtest, especially whites). Its the only device I feel I can rely on for an entire day without being near a battery charger.

As has bene documented countless times in this forum, the hardware is being suffocated by the software. That's why everyone anxiously awaits the bypassing of the bootloader, loading custom kernels and ROMs, and why many people are pressuring Motorola to set their phone free. Motorola promises late 2011, but some people have different timelines to take matters into their own hands.
No, mine is fast and has no lag.
Getting faster the more crap I put on it.

I'm in the same boat as you Sanbourne. Been having a lot of problems with my Atrix and I'm just about ready to get rid of it
I have used many phones, and I mean MANY. The atrix is the only phone that has finally made me say, wow. I don't see the problems your having and maybe the fact that its an assembly line phone you might need to replace it. I run 3d graphics without a hitch. Screen scrolling and unlocking is smooth as butter. Not to mention call quality, speaker, display, etc... It is by far a beast of a device. I have packed almost 40gb of info into this thing, have over 80 apps, including games, productivity and more. I am probably at any given time running 15 or more processes in the background and still, it takes it with no problem. These are phones here, and in a world where we rely less on what they do and more on how they do it and how they look we seem to forget that nothing comes close to what this phone has achieved in a power user standpoint. Keep that all in mind when you think the atrix isn't that great or impressive. Its your personal workhorse, its not a "pretty" phone or a "wow look at that phone!" its a, "nope, leave the laptop, I have everything I need right here"

Same here and with Citrix Xen Desktop and the lapdock I can run a Windows XP session and use Excel/Word and all my other office software....
I don't understand about the flashlight...although I have read that some apps can burn out the led on a phone. Maybe you should take it in under warranty.
On the keypad..there is a delay if you are in the process of rebooting your phone. Otherwise entering the code is instantaneous. Fingerprint reader may take me two times..
Ive owned a moto backflip and htc aria before getting this phone and in my opinion, it feels like a better version of the motorola backflip

I came from a Vodafone UK Iphone 4 and got back to the states...I picked up the atrix after a BUNCH of research. I am really happy with it. So much I really havent even paid attention to upcoming phones.(thats how I gauge how much i really like a phone). it is kinda like being happy with your woman enough not to notice all the others out there.
The other thing to keep in mind is the version of Android isnt even supporting ALL that this phone can do. So it really is future proof for a while. Gingerblur has made things smooth as can possibly be also.
give it some time bro
OP, I disagree with you. I recently baught a nexus one for my wife, $270 brand new. Although I love its build quality, my Atrix is MUCH faster (with Go launcher EX). And yes, even the Nexus one with its 1 Ghz CPU lags after a day of use.

Will agree with OP... It's nice but nothing takes advantage of the dual cores it seems.
Live Wallpaper is laggy (with launcher pro or motoblur), the screen takes forever to turn on, it seems every other previous flagship device is getting updates (It's pissing me off!)...
Next time I'm definitely going with HTC, if I can't find a good HTC I'll opt for samsung, but never again for Motorola. Or AT&T for that fact.
I recently switched from the iPhone to Samsung Galaxy S 4. I am not a programmer, developer. Anyone have any suggestions on good apps for making this phone not stink for me, i.e., predictive text like the iphone had, a wifi connection that doesn't fall off regularly?
Thank you for your help.

This phone isn't for everyone. Some people just need something you can turn on and use. Maybe you should rethink your decision? If you want stuff like the "iphone had", why aren't you still using an iphone?
BTW, my phone has predictive text and doesn't drop wifi and though there are always a few exceptions, I think most people with this phone don't have problems. And most of the problems that do exist are from people that haven't read and learned about their devices. Like I said, they just want to turn the phone on and magically make everything work (even stuff that wasn't originally part of the phone's specs.). then, they get mad because they actually have to do a little learning and reading to understand how things work. Just look through the Q & A section (and General) for people that are posting about their phone not working a certain way, when the topic has already been covered and resolved...usually many times. Oh well, like I said, this phone isn't for everyone. Good luck
SwiftKey for predictive text. I don't have the problem with wifi. Maybe you could explain and someone can help you. I'm a mac person for the most part, so if you're having trouble with the two "ecosystems", I can probably help you.

Why get the phone if you think it stinks? I love my phone! Took awhile to get it how I want it, I came from an iPhone also and even traded my gs4 back to an iPhone and traded back because I hated how the iPhone was compared to this. An iPhone is for people on the go its simple quick and easy to use. Gs4 is for people who want customization and is able to spend time to search, loom, read on how to make the phone the way you want it. GOOGLE is the main source for everything it has many people who converted from iphones to androids. Just Google search “how to make gs4 like iPhone" but in all reality I thought I would miss all the features the iPhone has but I really don't anymore after having the phone since July.
