Before I get booed by the HTC One commiunity kindly be informed that I have been a proud owner of HTC One since it launched in my region, the flaws I am about to mention are nothing but mere observations that I think HTC should have paid a bit more attention to.
The lack of battery percentage
Why no native battery percentage out of the box (Yes I know its an android phone and there are plenty of apps that could replicate the function) but, we al know that its not hard to add and for the life of me I just can't understand why it was not include it in the official ROM.
LED
SIZE does matter, I think the notification LED is small and weak, its not very visible from not a very far distance. Not multicolored which I find annoying but it wouldn't have mattered really since it barely visible. Last but least I tend to charge my phone a lot it glows orange which is cool but it doesn't blink when you get a text or a missed call (at least this one is fixable).
Weak haptic feedback
I always turn haptic feedback off, but with the HTC One I have been having some issues with the buttons sensitivity so I have decided to keep it on since it makes it a lot easier to figure out if you touched the actual button or not. Sadly, the haptic feedback is weak any simple comparison between the HTC One ( the silver One is freaking sexy... had to be said somewhere in this stupid rant) and any other phone would easily prove that.
Power button placement
Need I talk about this? I know its probably due to internal hardware alignment but I have to mention that the power button placement is just not user friendly at all.
Man I feel better, thanks for listening guys.

Didn't they fix the battery percentage with today's update? I do agree with the power button placement, that is bad. For haptic feedback no idea since I never use it and led is good enough for me.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
4.2.2 adds the battery percentage natively. Using ARHD right now for 4.2.2. I have no issues with the notification LED. It's bright enough for me and having 2 colors only isn't an issue since it does what I want it to do. The hepatic feedback is a bit weak but I like it since I can still feel it a bit but it isn't so high that it's annoying. Could be just a bit higher though. I prefer it to be lower rather than overly high. Also I love the placement of the power button. I think power buttons that are on the side of the device just look stupid. Functionality is nice I guess but no way do I want it on the side. I have no problems reaching it and I think it looks better. If it's that big an issue custom roms add volume buttons to wake.

I think my only issue is power button placement .
i'd love an RGB led lasting longer than 5 minutes
install swipe home from Google play..makes htc logo feel like a button .you can customize it to your likings too...lemme know if I helped

Well the percentage option is coming.
The LED should have been multicolored. As far as brightness I kind of appreciate that it is not as bright and large as the one on my GS3 though.
Wish the Haptic Feedback was customizable as well. Maybe a future update can add that feature.
Power button placement blows my mind as well. Not sure why they have been so stubborn about this. I dont mind much but can't imagine how folks with smaller hands deal.

Lack of battery percentage? Find an app on the play store and done. Plus its coming in 4.2.2 ( in fact you can flash ARHD 10.0 and voila).
LED? Do you need to see your notification from Jupiter? The LED is strong and you cant miss it.
Weak haptic feedback? Get over it.
Power button placement? Ok you're right, its awful.
about battery percentage I mentioned in my post that a LOT of apps could replicate the function but I think HTC should have included it in the final product.
LED nope I don't think it's strong enough,it's a matter of personal preference I guess.
As for haptic feedback these devices go under testing for at least a couple of months before release, you would think that someone would notice that is freaking weak, I am just seeking the perfect phone man you know ?
And the powe button... Just the worst placment ever it looks nice but functionality wise is just not all that.

I'm loving my HTC One. My only real gripe is the unresponsive back and home keys. I don't mind the led colors or where the power button is. As I mentioned in another posting, I hope my provider updates the firmware shortly to fix that problem.

Battery % - Is coming with 4.2.2. Just wait for it.....
LED - Multicolor is preferred, but does it really that matters to you since you will be checking what's new anyways? I do agree that the LED should blink or change to green when something new happened during charging.
Haptic feedback - Stronger feedback means more power consumption. Are you using it as a vibrator? I find the call vibrations are pretty good though.
Power button - Well true. Is kinda hard to reach and difficult for making screen shots. Just a matter of getting used to it.
All brands have their individual faults. As long as these cons do not affect my daily usages alot, I'm fine with them.
This is just a guess....but does anyone think they put the power button on the top due to it acting as the IR as well? Might have something to do with it?

My list:
1) Missing recents capacitive button. I loved it on my nexus 4, don't see why they axed it, considering it was on the One S.
2) Autobrightness is a bit higher than normal. If they were smart they would have set it at or lower than the Galaxy S3 so that battery life would be better. Setting an average brightness that is higher than your competitors just makes for more cannon fodder when people are comparing battery stats.
3) I'd prefer the camera to take a few extra ms to make sure the image is focused, rather than shoot 0.00001 faster and end up with a blurry image.
4) Add a widget for beats. Going into the settings to toggle it on and off is a PITA.
5) Attempting to reinvent the wheel with how the launcher works. If it ain't broke, don't start trying to change things. It'll only confuse new AND old users (hell if the average android fan doesn't understand how the dock works then how do you expect a newcomer to android to understand?)
But realistically, all these are nitpicking. Overall the phone is great and I'm very happy with how it runs now.

When I went from Desire to SGS2 it took me a while to get used to power button on the side and I was annoyed by the fact Samsung put it on the side. And when I went from SGS2 to HOX it took me a while to get used to button on top again. You will get used to it, it'snot hard to reach and the power button now is the IR transmitter, so they mananged to stylishly hide that

So whats your first impressions guys?
Mine are:- (coming from nexus one)
Im missing my big coloured ball lol (although we do have a lil light on the desire z, it doesnt seem to flash to show missed calls, emails etc... only seems to flash when ringing & I cant figure out how to change this for other notifications).
Loving the keyboard
Loving the updated HTC Sense
I have the loose hinge prob, but for now its not a concern
It noticably 'speedier' that my nexus
Cant comment on battery life yet as only had for one day
HTC Sense.com is still a bit buggy (couldnt locate my phone, also couldnt sent a text message from online)
Screen is very nice (both in responsiveness & colour etc)
WIFI stronger than nexus one

This issue with the hinge is off-putting, read about it in some of the reviews before it was released so to hear it from an actual user of the production model is rather off-putting.
I've been using mine since this morning. Still getting used to the 4 row keyboard. Hinge is loose but ok. For now. Colours are less vibrant but more accurate than my Desire. Battery seems on A par.
It did start running A bit sluggish but I re booted and its fast again.

I picked up a DZ on the 3rd and I am surprised how heavy it feels, but that's not an issue. I came from an HTC Legend.
Things I am happy about:
- New HTC Sense has many new features (skins, htcsense.com, ring profiles, reorderable screens)
- Flash works surprisingly well, especially for games. Silky smooth in fullscreen.
- The keyboard is great. I was surprised that there's a tab key and a dedicated question-mark key.
- The camera app is greatly improved (compared to the Legend). Even supports 1-2 person automatic self-portraits.
- The screen is nice, it seems the same as my wife's Desire (minus Z), which is LCD version.
- Wifi signal is better than with the Legend
- The phone is more aesthetically pleasing in person than it is in images. I like it a lot, even if it is a bit plain-ish
- You can share multiple videos to facebook at once now! (I think, I didn't actually do it but it let me select multiple).
- I LOVE the HTC flashlight app, and the light on this phone amazes me.
Things I am iffy about or dislike:
- HTC Sense is still choppy in the apps list and in various HTC apps.
- The phone gets a little slow in things like Angry Birds. Every few seconds there's a stutter. It just doesn't seem as fast I was expecting coming from a 2.1 Legend.
- The keyboard and soft-key lights sometimes go out on me and flicker on and off as if the software doesn't know that I have the keyboard out and I am typing.
- Swype has to be turned off and on sometimes after using the hard keyboard. It juts doesn't put the words into the input boxes for some reason.
- The battery life so far is pretty bad. But I think I had too much going on.
- The camera photos seem dull compared to what I saw in the viewfinder immediately prior to taking the photo
- The speaker is not nearly as good as I was expecting, I was hoping it would be better than the Legends by a considerable margin.
- The HTC likes app seems pointless.
I am torn as to whether or not I want to use HTC sense. I wish I could pick and choose pieces of it. I'd completely ditch the app drawer, for example.

I came from a buggy Samsung Galaxy S and have been enjoying my HDZ for two and a half days now. Here are my impressions:
- Screen is nice but pales in comparison to the SGS.
- I am still getting used to the flip out keyboard. Swype remains my preferred input method.
- The hinge doesn't seem to be an issue for me, but then again, I don't use the keyboard all that much.
- Speed is very good. My Quadrant scores are in the mid 1500's, which is lower than my SGS, but it feels faster than my SGS ever did.
- Camera is very nice, although I haven't loaded the pics onto my PC yet to see the quality. I'm heading off on vacation next week, which will be the true test of the camera and camcorder functions.
- I also really like the flashlight utility - very simple and yet oh so functional.
- Sense UI took a little getting used to, and after about a day I switched back to LauncherPro.
- The phone still feels heavy to me, but at least there's some weight behind it when you beat iPhone users over the head
- The speaker is a letdown. It is very tinny and sounds hollow, even for the ringtone.
- I still press the touchpad as though it's a home button a lot, or press the home button instead of the menu button. This is most likely just getting used to the form factor compared to the SGS and I expect it will improve with time.
Overall, I like the phone quite a bit. It certainly doesn't have that sexy wow factor of the SGS or iPhone 4, but the utilitarian in me loves the speed, functionality and usability of the HDZ.

wow.. thats pretty bad :|
I got mine yesterday, and in general I'm rather disappointed.
The hinge is terrible - it opens by itself, and when I try and use it with the phone closed, the top half wobbles from side to side!
The weight is a bit more than I expected, and the keyboard is too wide for typing on with 2 hands. Maybe I have small hands compared to some, but I feel myself having to stretch my hands to reach certain keys.
The whole point in taking this phone was for the hardware keyboard - and I find myself not using it already!
I've just restored it all back to default, and then am away to place it back in its box and go back to my HD2! I'll maybe see about a Desire HD, but I'm more drawn towards a regular Desire as I think my HD2 was too big, and the Desire HD is a little bit bigger.
Had mine a couple of days (Desire Z purchased in the UK) and here are some impressions (coming from a nexus one):
-Screen is amazingly crisp, viewing angle of it is amazing, no loss of colour even looking at the screen from extreme angles
-Trackpad is very responsive, even more so than the ball on the N1
- New HTC sense is very pretty, much more customisable than my first experience of it on the Hero
- Oh god the boot times. For those of you who haven't done so yet - reboot your phone. Mine, even fully laden with apps shuts down in under 2 seconds and boots up in 2-3. The boot screen is there long enough for the startup sound to play, then the phone is 100% operational. Never seen such a fast boot on a smartphone.
- Aluminium is nice and even the plastic parts feel nice and sturdy
- Speaker is a little tinny, but as all i'll ever hear out of it are ringtones and notifications, not a massive issue
- Keyboard is hands down the best i've used on a mobile device (though I occasionally suffer from the aforementioned issue with the backlight being intermittent, it seems to be a rare occurrence)
- Seems faster and more responsive than my rooted and overclocked N1
- Side buttons are solid and easy to press, nice coming from an N1 with its slightly flaky power button
- The hinge. I have no issue with it and think it's a very well engineered solution to revealing the keyboard. While yes, if you pick the whole unit up by the screen or hold it upside down it flops a bit, I never hold my phone like this so it's a total non-issue. In standard use it has never opened or closed without me wanting it to. Perhaps it varies by region, as I haven't experienced the screen wobble while the hinge is closed either.
Overall exceedingly happy with it, without doubt the best qwerty handset i've ever used.
So I'm having a weird issue that I haven't been addressed yet. I have a review unit for my site, thecellularguru.com, as well as one I bought for myself because I loved it so much and wanted to use it on Rogers.
Both units have phantom screen touches where every once in a while the phone will become possessed and start selecting things randomly. I can sometimes make it stop by holding a finger down on the screen which seems to snap it out of its weirdness but it always comes back. One unit was barely functional so I returned it and the other one seems better but its quite disconcerting.
Anyone else had these problems?

^^^ this here is hoping the next HTC phone has stereo speakers aswell and the trend continues, as for camera I wonder what HTC are going to do next year.
I have 2 niggles
The power button is basically flush with the handset so sometimes can be a bit awkward to press
You can't map the back key as a menu key when you long press so you get that annoying black bar at the bottom
Other than that, perfect

OMG this phone....OMG
is surreal
the speakers are so good when my phone ringed in the bus this morning everyone just stopped whatever they were doing and turned towards me...and by god, the volume was less than half...
the display has such beautiful deep black and white it doesnt look like a screen but like a glossy magazine...
The menu 3dots button needs to disappear in a bug release patch hopefully as in some app (FB etc) takes over the screen and i dont like that
Battery well superior to HTC one x
Lagg - free
And the built....oh it feels like it was designed to be hold in hand...i dont even feel like keeping it in the pocket anymore
and by the way, i dont know ab SG4 for but this phone, will turn heads everywhere, people will be hypnotised by it
i had 4 strangers asking me: dude what phone is this, ive never seen anything like this before...also my friends are all now considering buying it
i know i sound like i was paid by HTC, but i wasnt, i hate HTC as a company but my god...this phone...this phone is not from this time, it is from the future:good:
Battery life does seem poor, although I won't really be able to judge until I do my commute on Monday, thats when I can judge it a bit better
Sound quality is amazing, both on speakers and headphones so ****ing loud i love it
Screen is nice.
Power button is recessed so quite difficult
TV remote is a great handy little addition
Camera seems okay, although i have issues, have tried doing sequence shot or always smiling keep getting errors, will try again tomorrow though , shutter speed is very good
Sense, it's lovely and clean but i just wish i could get rid of blink feed and make the grid 5x5
Call quality seems great, service and wifi signal are both excellent and no fluctuations whatsoever so really happy with that.
The messenger, people, music and camera apps all look lovely, htc have really stripped them down and taken on board googles design ethos

I have had people staring at me on the bus , thinking what the hell is that phone and some have asked. I have told them its only the best phone in the world right now it is called the HTC One. Some of my friends that were thinking about the s4 or xperia z due to memory options have forgetton about both after seeing or just hearing about my phone.
Sorry for the long post btw, but here is my review of the HTC One for those who are interested
Just going to add my review, I have had the phone since Friday afternoon and it is now Tuesday afternoon.
I am coming from a HTC Sensation which I’ve had since launch so it was being to feel old, battery get rubbish etc... I have had a HTC for the past 5 years, so yes I am a bit of a HTC fan boy, but I’ll try be as honest as possible. (I was quite willing to go to the s4 if they improved things but they didn’t)
Build quality and physical features:
Firstly like everyone has said, the build quality and feel of the phone is amazing! Better than the iPhone. It is light but it isn’t too light
If that makes sense, it heavy enough to make it feel premium. It looks gorgeous feels gorgeous and is gorgeous. I don’t find it slippery in my hand, however when it’s in your pocket because of its height and smooth back I do feel abit uneasy about it slipping out when you’re sitting down.
I think the size is perfect for me, but that’s personal preference. The volume buttons are nice, in the right place, feel good and easy to press. The
The micro usb is on the button , which is a plus for me to put into my android dock, but is much more to the right hand side, would of been nice for it to be more central but I’m being picky.
The power button is flush and smooth, and far to over the left hand device to me making it awkward if you have small hands (luckily I don’t) however I am totally used to it now so it doesn’t bother me anymore.
The button layout I actually love now I am used to it. Android phones only need 2 buttons, and long as you remember the double tap or hold down home shortcuts you will be fine. You get used to it way to quick, so much that I used my sensation the other day and kept pressing the wrong buttons on it.
Battery: (using auto brightness, power save off, WI fi on mostly.)
Ok so I wasn’t expecting much until I started reading the reviews of people saying it’s awesome. It isn’t awesome, it’s ok. Through a work day with light usage I get from 100% to about 80%, which is more than anyone else. Though saying that it seems most of my battery is trying to find mobile signal (I get crap signal for every network at work) so I’m trying to go aeroplane mode as no point searching for signal that isn’t there, I’ll keep you all updated on how this works out.
Then when I get home I whack out the games, do bit browsing, check Facebook, text all night etc… and it does drop quickly. Both nights I have gone from 80% to 0% in about 5/6 hours with heavy usage. Which tbf isn’t bad, but it’s not great.
Point to add, I’m still messing about with settings and apps, and I do find myself just turning my phone on to play with it , so I’m expecting the battery life to improve when I stop being a little kid . I have also drained it fully and fully charged it 4 times.
For example useage today, my brightness is at lowest it will go, wifi off, radio on, its been on for about 6 hours, about 30 mins screen on, and i have been playing music for about 10 minutes on full volume, my battery is at 79%.
Sense 5:
Very very nice, big improvement over 4 I feel. Nice and clean, simple to use and lots of nice little features, as well as some annoying ones.
I like the icons, I love the message app, it allows you to change theme of how the texts set out, so for example texts sent by you show up one colour, by the other person another, and then a different background. It’s just the little things like that that make a difference. Settings are similar to 4 so nothing to go on about there.
Blink feed is handy, but more a gimmick I feel, they need to greatly improve the sources because all I see at the minute is my Facebook newsfeed which annoys me slightly. But it has potential.
I like when you unlock the screen it goes to where you were last. And the lock screen is very nice and simple. It does annoy me how the preview texts come up though, at the bottom but only 2 lines of it, not like sense 4 when you got the bubble in the middle.
The thing that annoys me is with no menu button you can’t quickly change your wallpaper or go into settings etc... You have to drag down the notification bar and go to settings. When in an app and pressing home button, you go back to the app draw and not the home screen, that annoys me, but is useful every 1/10 times you press it! I would have also liked a quick settings bar but I have an app to do that anyway.
These are all little niggle bits which most of you won’t mind about, and can be resolved with rooting/little software tweaks by htc.
Screen:
Nothing more to say than amazing. Best screen I have seen on a smartphone hand down, viewing angles, colours etc... all brilliant. And the right size
Camera:
I haven’t had a massive play with the camera but what I have I have been impressed. There is virtually no shutter lag which is brilliant (big thing coming from sensation) you press the button it takes a picture, and keep pressing it, it keeps taking pictures. The quality in low light is amazing; you can just see on the screen how much light it is picking up.
The video quality is great and that extra microphone does make a difference to sound quality, there is a lack of bass however but it is crystal clear. Can also take pics while videoing which is handy?
The amount of options to edit your photo is ridiculous; I think I will need a year with the phone to work out all of them! Unsure whether this is a good thing or bad, after all if it’s there but not used, what’s the point? But it is nice you have the option.
Boom sound:
This is the one feature that is literally drawing dropping; the sound that comes out of this phone is amazing. Out of the people I’ve shown they have all been amazed and said wow that is so loud and clear for a phone. The need for those little crappy portable speakers is gone, it still can’t replace a good dock but it comes close.
This is also makes a huge difference when playing games and apps etc... the sound quality and loudness makes it just that much more enjoyable!
Although please note, you will never miss an alarm again! They do need to lower the volume a bit to compensate for the loudness, as stupid as that sounds.
Other:
The processor is amazing and lag free. However it does heat up, not as much as my sensation does when put under heavy load, but it’s noticeable. Plus side is it will make a lovely hand warmer in those cold months, downside I’m guessing the heat with affect battery life.
HTC ONE Vs. Sony Xperia Z
Luckily my brother decided to buy the sony xz the day before I got my one, and I got the chance to compare the phones (sorry no pics or videos didn’t have the time)
I have to say the htc one was better, in my opinion in most ways, it felt better, looked better, nicer screen, better viewing angles, better camera (only tested at a restaurant in low light though).
The only thing I prefer about the sony was the fact the power button was on the side, which made it very easy to press.
Closing thoughts:
The HTC One is no doubt the best phone on the market at the minute in my opinion. It has pretty much everything you want from a phone. It can be improved, of course it can, but HTC are onto a winner here. Everybody who has seen/heard it has said wow that is a nice phone, how much is that etc… Obviously we can’t compare it fully to the s4 yet, which will be its biggest rival, but I think the 2 phones will have different audiences. The question is, will this phone withstand the test of time with key lime pie looking to be released and maybe a nexus 5, we will see!
Please leave your opinions/comments, but note this is my personal view but I welcome a healthy debate on the subject! I hope this helps those who are looking at buying this phone.
UPDATE 21/3
Ok some now ive had the phone nearly a week i have some things to add.
Firstly anybody worrying about the notification LED, dont , it is bar far brightest i have had on any phone (including htc sensation and desire) it might be smaller but it is noticeable, when charging it obviously isnt on full brightness, but when you get a notification its easily see able.
2ndly the battery: I was having play and found i was get some wakelock issues from google maps and fb. I turned off google now and have seen a massive improvement in battery life.
Currently today im on 65% , phone has been on for 13 hours, about hour of screen on time. about 30 mins of playing real racing, tiny bit of checking wi fi etc.. Before i would on about 30% . Therefore my opinion has greatly improved over the battery. Can last me 2 days if i really want it too.
On a side note, i am getting my phone exchanged at end of march due to gap (see the thread on gap issue if you want more info) but i am truely happy with this phone now the battery has improved, and im getting used to doing things slightly different way.
Re: My HTC One review
Nice review. Thx
Ur review about the battery is more reliable to me than those who States 6hours sceen on. 6hours for me is only possible if u just leave the phone on desk with screen on untouched lol.
One question. Can you make a call to someone using speaker and see if the other side Can hear u well?
Also any scratches yet? Is it ez to get scratched?
Thanks

Yer i am questioning some of the people who are saying battery is so good, i have always been light on my battery and it is not lasting
as long as my htc sensation. Im trying different things with it atm to see if i can make it last longer, but i mean it still lasts a full day, just about though.
I have been on the phone to a few people and they say the speaker phone is good, not amazing or the best they have heard, but good.
While not on speaker phone people have said its really clear and very little background noise.
No scratches at all yet, ive had no case on it or anything but not a thing, its looks as good as it did on the first day.
The back doesn't smudge at all, and the screen just wipes clear on your shirt.
I hope you have some sunshine to try the screen under direct sunlight
How do you feel the weight of the phone in hand compared to Sensation?
GPS lock is faster too?

We had some the other morning , not alot mind you and i didnt have any problems with viewing the screen, only half brightness, but it wasnt particularly sunny!
GPS lock is much faster than sensation, used to take about 30 seconds on sensation, takes about 5/10 on the one.
Weight wise its feels lighter than the sensation, i have to say as silly as it sounds i think htc have got the weight spot on.
Light enough to hold in and watch film etc.. not too light to feel cheap.
Fair review, nice to read a 'real users' thoughts on the battery, I can only see good things coming for this handset.
I honestly think it'll do the the SGS4 what the SGS3 did to the HTC One X, steal all of it's limelight!

I don't know if this is a subliminal message towards my post but whatever. At the end of today it will be two days with the phone. I am noticing that battery life is decent. Not as great as I was hoping it to be, however yesterday I did use the phone really heavily as I had a day off. Unplugged at 100% battery 11am and it was at like 3% come 9pm. That's pretty good but I was hoping it would last at least another hour or two hours. I did have to put it on power saver mode at 20% so that's a thing to note. As I get used to the phone and it goes through a couple of charges I think I will really be able to tell properly but for now, that is all.

Thanks for the interessting Review !:good:
Thanks for the review. It's always better to hear from the end user instead of web reviews alone. Gives a more balanced opinion. One quest if possible. Any chance you could record loud music maybe from hi Fi or music channel or club to see how sensitive the mic is. You don't have to upload to YouTube. Or if anyone else could test. My One X and Sensation were really poor even though HTC boasted about stereo mic
Once again thanks.

Ive recorded sound coming from my bose sound system and it is very good. Better than any smartphone i have heard, it does restrict the bass abit , but you get clear audio so the sacrifice is worth it.
Im updating original as well since i have a few to add about the battery.

nope, sometimes you have to press the back or home button twice but i think down to just missing the exact spot.
But not having the problems some others have described

The predictive text input is fecking horrendous........only thing I found wrong with the phone....
I think the back and home button issue is down to the small footprint of the actual buttons, i reckon people expect to just be able to hit around the area of the button for it to work when in fact it needs to be more precise.
Good or bad?......up to the user, i think good.

So you're returning it for the gap issue?
This worries me. When I had a Desire HD, the speaker blew. I had to give my phone to Telus so they could send it to HTC to have it repaired. They sent it back and it wasn't fixed at all, so back it went. I had to use an HTC Hero for a month.
When I had my iPhone, I just walked into the apple store and they gave me a new one.
I'm worried I am waiting all this time and I'll get a gapped phone, or what have you.

I thought I saw in a review that the keyboard was way better than any previous HTC phone. It wasn't bad at all on my HTC Desire HD. How bad could it be now?!

I cant comment on the keyboard as i just installed swift key as i used it on my own phone and cant go wrong with it.
Yup getting it exchanged, but tbf most people seem to have a gap, so im hoping just because its the first batch, and things will improve.
But yer im not worried about the gap now, but to me it what can happen in 6 months time, with use etc.. it will probably expand and
cause problems, so best to get it sorted now.
I did send a pic to htc and they told me to get it exchanged.
all i have been reading is how great the phone is . even i love the HTC One but im sure that the phone has some negative aspects as well. i request the users of the HTC One to please point out the negative aspects of the phone if any ...
The lockscreen button since the phone it's so long you have to re arrange your hand sometimes . That's about it for me
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Who wants to hear about the negatives? If you like the phone then get it. If you dont like the phone then dont get it. Each phone will have different negatives per user. The guy above me dosent like the lockscreen button... but I may love it. Each negative (aside from visual/hardware defects) are going to be subjective.
My negative: no option for wireless charging.
Probably best nipping over to the Samsung forums for a better researched and comprehensive list to be honest. There's a few of them in here which I think is testament to our friendliness, we welcome anybody, even though they are less fortunate than ourselves .
Honest answer? Coupla minor niggles with gaps and bit of annoyance with the sensitivity of the back & home buttons for some but the awesomeness of the phone and recent 1.29 update seem to have cured these. Get one and enjoy it... jeez, I ought to be on commission!
It's screen is too bright until you flash a auto brightness mod for low light. The mic is almost to sensitive for video recording betting that is why we are seeing some problems with hiss in calls and videos. HTC in their infinte wisdom decided we only needed two buttons LIKE WTF!!! We can fix soon as it has been confirmed that the HTC logo will act as whatever we tell it to The camera isn't perfect yet which I will bet will take quite a few months of software updates (not saying it's bad just expect it to get much better) It will run hot no way around this but a case as aluminum is a excellent heat conductor. Battery life isn't like the end all be all it does not last 5 days or even 20 hours with the screen on

if u guys think i am a HTC hater , u think wrong. i am using The One X for about a Year now. before that i had the Desire . Like the One X gets too hot while gaming, the WIFI of One X is a bit Dicey. its still a great phone mind you
My apologies. No heat issues for me on either of ours, no wifi dropouts so far, bit of a niggle with the initial set up with my BT Parrot kit for the car but all sorted now. Only wish the lowest volume could be a little lower! aside from the minor niggles mentioned earlier, best phone by a long shot for me so far. I have used Apple products through work in the past and am currently running a work Blackberry too but this is absolutely my phone of choice for personal use. It just... does what it's meant to, quickly and without fuss. Hope this helps and again, sorry for the misjudged initial reply.:highfive:

Negativity...
Ok here's one. Because of the HTC One a negativity thread has opened...
Most posts here will be biased as you are asking for a one sided story here. Im not sure if you have one but if you are going to get one make sure you weigh the pluses too. Like I've just released a ROM and I'm Taylor Swift. So there's two pluses there

No need to apologize . .. I wanted to buy the One for my Brother so just wanted to know more about the phone ... Just wanted to know about the various issues people have been talking about ie. the gaps , crackling sound in the speakers , heat issues etc... I really hope that the HTC One sells really well .... Its one of the best Phones ever made... Period.
I find that the back and home buttons are not sensitive enough.
One that sticks out for me and it's really more with Sense 5 than the phone is on the lock screen the play/pause button is too big. Often when I want to go to the next track I'll hit that by accident instead. That and the phone heating up a bit sometimes are so far my two minor gripes.
I am coming from an SGSII running the latest AOKP. Here are a few of the annoyances I've noticed.
- Slow charging compared to most phones
- The large size makes hitting the lock button somewhat awkward at times. I much preferred the right side lock, left side volume of the SGSII.
- Vibrates too hard. I know this might sound like a strange criticism but its annoying when you're in class and your phone sounds like it's about to rattle off of the desk. Hoping there will be a mod in the near future to reduce intensity.
- The charging light, when green, is actually pretty ****ing annoying to look at. It's behind the speaker on top and is a small LED. It's very very bright when you look at it directly and annoying when you're trying to use your phone and charge it at the same time.
There are many minor things with Sense UI compared to AOKP, but that isn't really a fair criticism when I knew what I was getting into. There are very few bugs though, and it's nice coming from a ROM where there were always a few lurking issues that couldn't be fixed without source. Still very happy with the phone though.
Vibrates too hard? Then it's perfect for me. I've lost count on how many calls I've missed when I couldn't feel Xperia S vibrating in my pocket.

Give it some time.... after the initial scramble to get the first Ones by the fanboys, the general masses will come out in larger numbers to buy the phone, and they won't be so loving and biased.
So.. In a couple of months, we will see how great or not great this phone is as more unbiased temperaments make their opinions known.
I've been using the Lenovo P2 as my daily driver for about six months in Asia before returning to the States. Sprint was kind enough to replace my HTC Mogul with the HTC U11 for free (via TEP), so I've been using the U11 for the past two weeks.
Here are my first out-of-the-box impressions of the U11 compared to the P2, in no particular order:
- No vibrate toggle
- No cast toggle
- No screenshot toggle
- Touchscreen too sensitive (had to disable keyboard glide typing)
- Touchscreen seems unreliable (sometimes my taps don't register, so I have to switch hands; may be caused by sweat, so related to previous point)
- Prone to hit app switch button when swiping down on right (e.g., while playing Onirim)
- Weak or wonky Wi-Fi (placed U11 next to P2 and U11 was not able to connect while P2 had stable connection)
- BoomSound mode notification would sometimes show
- Location disabled icon always displayed
- No built-in app cloning (Parallel Space can't clone Skype Lite)
- Doesn't last as long (not even close)
- No headphone jack
- Slippery in the hands (like a bar of soap)
- No physical switch to convert into dumbphone (prolly my fav feature on P2)
- Blacks are not as black (P2 is Super AMOLED)
- Only one SIM slot (you won't appreciate this until you go abroad)
- The power button and volume rocker are way too stiff (on the P2 the home button is too stiff)
- No running processes view in Settings / Apps
- No vibrate on call connect option
- Capacitive buttons stay on for three seconds
- "If Wi-Fi isn't working, try opening your browser to connect" toast
- No FM radio (for now)
+ Better camera
+ Better sound when recording
+ Better audio (I guess?)
+ USB Type-C
+ Android 7.1.1 (P2 has 7.0.0)
+ Faster updates (so far)
+ Soon to get BT 5.0 (not useful now, but more future-proof)
+ Thinner and a little lighter
+ Better looking
+ Gorilla Glass 5 (P2 has GG 3)
+ Faster app switching (in P2 you have to long-press home button)
+ Everything looks sharper thanks to the 2K display (P2 is "only" 1080)
+ Twice the storage (P2 also comes in 4GB RAM / 64GB storage model)
+ Edge Sense makes a lot of sense
+ Dust- and water-proof (IP67 certified)
+ Night mode automatically turns off in the morning
Both phones have very light skins and little bloatware, so they are almost like stock. In terms of performance, both phones feel about the same even though one has the almighty SD835 and the other a thrifty SD625. Yeah, I was surprised, too. Even the gaming experience was more or less the same: both games played Elder Scrolls Legends just fine and both stuttered while playing Angry Birds Evolution. I can't decide whether the SD625 is that impressive, the SD835 is not all that, we've crossed the point of diminishing returns for mobile SoC performance, or a combination thereof.
All in all, I'm not too impressed with HTC's latest flagship. Considering it's about 3x the cost of the P2, I would say I'm more productive on the P2, largely thanks to the ginormous 5,100 mAh battery but also because it gets most of the small stuff that matters to me right. The three things that the U11 is better at (taking photos, recording videos, playing music) are not that important to me, but they may be for you. If I hadn't have gotten the U11 for free, I would most likely be returning it. In fact, I might still sell it when the Pixel 2 comes out just so I can move to Project Fi (I travel abroad often, and Sprint sucks for that).

You'll miss most of those ui/software "features" on Pixel 2 as well bro. Chinese phones are well known for those "features". However, even future Lenovo phones will be close to stock Android in the near future as it will ditch their "feature rich"
ui (read it somewhere).
As for value for money, nothing beats a mid range Chinese phones for sure. But these flagship phones have their own market. It caters to a percentage of people willing to pay top dollars to get the latest soc or make the most of phone camera, waterproofing, top specs, etc.
We all know spending 200-300$ gets you decent phones. We also know that spending 3x that will not get us 3x speed & quality.
Everyone has their own taste in phones. Reading from your nitpicky comparison, I suggest u skip Pixel 2 and get any xiaomi phones / oneplus 5 with custom Rom that will cater your UI needs.

Thanks, you reminded me of another U11 benefit: it's IP67 certified.

I stopped reading after the ridiculous notion that the SD 625 can keep up with the SD 835 but yeah, who needs a screenshot toggle when you hold volume down +power, it doesn't get any easier than that...

In a blind test I doubt that u can tell the difference between SD835 and SD625 in everyday usage, and I have both phones.
"when you hold volume down +power, it doesn't get any easier than that" -- Actually, it does: screenshot toggle.

Another comparison with the HTC U 11 is the most over used internet game going around. Im pretty sure nothing is easier than an easy short squeeze for a screenshot, mind you there are 2 additional ways to take a screenshot(stock that is). Many of your - points don't seem to make sense as you really don't know how to use the phone.
No vibrate toggle There is an App for that
- No cast toggle " same App
- No screenshot toggle 3 different ways to use + there is an App for that
- Touchscreen too sensitive (had to disable keyboard glide typing) Don't have this issue.
- Touchscreen seems unreliable (sometimes my taps don't register, so I have to switch hands; may be caused by sweat, so related to previous point) Nothing wrong with my touchscreen
- Prone to hit app switch button when swiping down on right (e.g., while playing Onirim) Do you mean Recent Apps? hardly ever
- Weak or wonky Wi-Fi (placed U11 next to P2 and U11 was not able to connect while P2 had stable connection) Wifi is great here 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz
- BoomSound mode notification would sometimes show Yes when it detects sounds out of speakers, that correct
- Location disabled icon always displayed Not here ROM takes care of that
- No built-in app cloning (Parallel Space can't clone Skype Lite) what?
- Doesn't last as long (not even close) As in Battery Life or Phone Life? Stop kidding yourself, battery life is awesome
- No headphone jack Bluetooth earphones work great
- Slippery in the hands (like a bar of soap) girlie hands?
- No physical switch to convert into dumbphone (prolly my fav feature on P2) Um no one wants a dumbphone
- Blacks are not as black (P2 is Super AMOLED) A nice feature of Kernel called Advanced Color Control
- Only one SIM slot (you won't appreciate this until you go abroad) 95% of phones only have one SIM
- You have to unlock the phone to dismiss the alarm (don't have the P2 with me now to confirm whether it's an Android thing) Um no you don't
- The power button and volume rocker are way too stiff (on the P2 the home button is too stiff) Stiff is better than loose and flimsy
- No call block management in dialer Google Dialer
- No vibrate on call connect option Yes there is yet again

In a blind test I can tell the SD 820 from the SD 835 - the U11 blows away my 10. I would definitely notice the 625 in a heartbeat.
Screenshot toggle is a useless gimmick. One of the pettiest cons I've ever seen and I take screenshots about a hundred times more than I use my camera. Power + volume down has been the standard forever, I don't see any need to improve it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You can even Set Up Edge Sense for that... Never read such bs...
These kind of posts remind me of what Samsung used to do years ago, when HTC was number one in the US and number 3 in the world (2011 or 2012 I think) : they were reportedly paying people to write fake, bad, biased reviews about HTC phones (and it worked, only the One M9 was a crappy phone, but anyway people stopped buying HTC phones before that) . Seems like the overall quality of the U11, which beats the S8 in every aspects (except the screen to body ratio) made Samsung go back to their old strategy.
And I dare someone to show me one phone, even in one app, Android or iPhone, which is smoother, more fluid than the U11.

The difference between the U Ultra and U11 was night and day for me.
Wait, I thought u guys stopped reading after "no screenshot toggle"? Guess not. While I appreciate u taking the time & effort to reply (twice), u didn't really need to since I don't put too much worth in words from overreactive fanboys.
I stand by every bullet point as I have used both phones on a daily basis (have u?) and found the U11 wholely underwhelming (at least now I know what the U stands for ). If u don't like my list then go create ur own 100-point list of why the U11 blows away every other phone.
Btw, no screenshot toggle is probably the least of my worries -- the most annoying aspects for me are the overly sensitive touchscreen sensor (which made me lose a PvZ Heroes battle more than once) and the wonky Wi-Fi reception. And if screenshot toggles are my thing, so be it; if installing gaudy themes is ur fetish, that's fine too but it wouldn't even register a 2nd thought with me much less a defensive reply.
I just thought of a new positive:
+ Night mode automatically turns off in the morning (on the P2 u had to manually turn it off)
See, it's not all negatives (if u had let the fanboy rage subside and read the rest of the list you'll see that it's about half negatives and half positives). I'll keep updating this list as I use the U11 more.
Fyi I'm not even an HTC hater -- I have probably used HTC phones (Titan and Mogul) before u kids even knew what HTC was.

Most of your complaints can be fixed pretty easily. I'll agree on the sensitivity of the touch screen but that can be addressed in a software update.
And I've been using HTC since the Apache in 2006, I'm 31, not a "kid," I just think you're nitpicking too much and it's a ridiculous assertion to claim the SD 625 is anywhere close to the SD 835, especially when using a single game that is known to have performance issues across the board as your reasoning. The 835 is about 2x faster than the 625 in most scenarios, higher in others. It also supports UFS 2.1 - go install a big app on both devices and see which one is done first. The U11 just flies through everything.
I've been incredibly happy with the Wi-Fi performance of this device, it's crazy fast and stable for me so I don't know what your issue is.

Nah I'm updating my experience with the U11 as I use it more so prospective buyers can make their own judgement. All the expected flametards are easily ignored so it's all good. I'll make this thread a journal of my personal journey with my new phone that I'm unfortunately stuck with unless I leave Sprint.
Speaking of which, I just thought of another annoyance with the U11: the capacitive button lights that stay on for three seconds. Seriously, who came up with this brilliant idea? By the time the buttons are lit u will have already found the buttons in the dark. And the buttons are back to being invisible again before the blink of an eye. The more sensible approach would be to add an option to automatically turn on the button lights (and keep them on) when it's dark like on most lighted laptop keyboards.
Back to that touchscreen sensor -- it needs some serious recalibration. It's possible that I have a buggy unit, but so far the U11 doesn't feel like the savior that HTC needs. Shame because they were great back in the Diamond days.

I noticed the difference between my tweaked 10 and stock u11 as soon as I used it and am still amazed. Also for screenshot power + home/fingerprint scanner works too
I really don't think the OP has any idea how to use this beast AT ALL. He probably should have used it a while before putting this up

I agree completely. I haven't even rooted it yet. I just haven't had any real complaints with out of the box performance. This is the first time I've owned a device for a month and not had a strong desire for root - most phones I root them as soon as I take them out of the box...
"I noticed the difference between my tweaked 10 and stock u11 as soon as I used it and am still amazed." -- then u r better than me or have Spidey senses bc I cannot tell the difference between my P2 and U11 in everyday usage, and I doubt the avg user would either (unless u r looking out for a speed bump). Who knows, maybe the P2 is just super optimized. Try to get ur hands on one and see for yourself.
"I really don't think the OP has any idea how to use this beast AT ALL." -- ok, the fact that u r calling the U11 a beast means I can't argue with u. Should u maybe ask how I use screenshots b4 making some galaxy-sized assumptions? Nm I'll fill u in: I can have up to 4 phones on a table and it takes me a split second to swipe down & tap using one finger vs. using two hands to pick up each phone to do VD+P, where each phone has buttons in different locations (and U11's STIFF buttons don't help at all). Also, if u don't press VD+P fast enough u can lock ur phone and miss that screenshot opportunity, then have to waste ur time to get back to what u wanted to capture (e.g., while gaming).
P2 even let's me crop the screenshot b4 saving the image. I guess it's one of those things where u won't "get" it unless u use it on a Chinese phone for awhile. But why r we still stuck on screenshot toggle?? Like I said, it's the least of my concerns.
Do u guys have ur heads in the sand about the whacked touch sensor or weak Wi-Fi reception when two rooms away from the router? At least someone tell me I have a lemon bc I can't be the only one experiencing this.
