[Q] can you edit updater script to not flash kernel? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have a Canadian device and want to flash some att roms, but quite a few contain auto loki now. I want to flash the roms and then Canadian compatible kernels after, so is it possible to just edit the update script so that it doesn't flash the loki or kernel? If so hopefully do I identify which lines are the ones to delete?

Edit : I tried flashing a att rom already and I edited out the assert prop at the beginning, it ran the install but failed half way through, I guess when it tried to flash the lokified kernel.... Is this failure just accomplishing what I am aiming for, the rom without the kernel?

Here man just use this:

I've used it on a couple roms now and they work 100%

New to Galaxy Tab

I'm new to the galaxy tab (att) and have a couple questions. So for all I've done is root the device. I'd like to at a minimum convert my file system to ext4. Can I flash modaco's kernal to convert to ext4? I have the jk1 stock firmware. I've read about protective bootloaders and am apprehensive about flashing anything until I know I wont throw my device into a bootloop. I'm familiar with the captivate flashing process and all of the custom Roms and tend to stick with customized stock Roms like cognition. Would flashing Modaco's kernel be the equivelent of stock + voodoo on the captivate? Stock feel with a better file system? Are there any risks of flashing it over jk1?

T-Mobile and Sprint ROMs on AT&T variant

Has anyone tried these yet? I'm assuming they'd work since OUDHS has auto-loki now but I haven't tested and don't wanna screw up my phone

yes they work i have been running Tmobile roms since day one of exploit release. been running death star and wicked have fun rom on!!
and yes use shabby's recovery so the auto loki is there. if not you have to flash the rom and a loki kernel( like KT kernel) before you can reboot the device!

How about the kernels? I'm about to see if ChronicKernel will work from the T-Mobile forum
Edit: Damn, no luck for me. Had to go into the zip and edit the updater-script because it would pull "ro.product.device" and check if it was jfltetmo and it wouldn't flash if it wasn't so I changed that to jflteatt and zipped it back up and it installed but would go past the Samsung Custom boot screen, just kept rebooting to there

The kernels need to be lokid...there's a recovery that will auto Loki all kernels so I suggest using that if you plan on flashing roms from other s4 variants...the recovery is in the development section, its hard to miss it says auto Loki in its title

[Q] running a jflteatt on a Canadian device

So I am rooted running twrp, and want to flash task650 rom. But I am getting a failure when I try. I also went to cwm and get same thing, status 7. This sucks because I love his rom. From what I understand, he uses a recovery with auto loki, so removed loki from his title. Since I have an unlocked bootloader, and he uses a auto loki recovery. Shouldn't I be able to flash his rom just like with the s3?

I didn't use that method, I used auto root from chainfire then installed twrp from goo, rebooted into recovery and full system wipe and tried flashing as usual. No go. I then flashed cm jfltecan and no problem... So Idk. As far as I know the root method shouldn't make a difference. I am also using latest twrp. I also tried the cwm touch recovery... Stumped!

I meant use it to just load a recovery. Status 7 means change the recovery. That tool is only for the I337M

Well I figured since I just rooted today and installed latest recoveries, np. I am reaching the end of my knowledge on recoveries. Task requires you to use shabby penguins auto loki cwm based recovery.... So problem must be Based on the rom itself maybe

It only requires that recovery for AT&T phones. Install the Canadian recovery and try again.

Just tried again, status 7... If I am running a jfltecan recovery, will it even let me flash a jflteatt file? Could it be as simple as renaming the file?

I guess I will have to go and modify the zip file and remove the assert prop to get it to work, looks like the only way

Your 100% correct...just gotta change the assert in the updater-script (or remove the assert all together)...its put their by default to prevent flashing a different device roms (like HTC one on sgs4) but obviously in our case we don't need to worry about compatibility except for the kernel
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Well if any one finds this thread, it works. I just edited the zip file and deleted assert in script and it flashed NP. But stupidly I used goo to install twrp after I flashed and it automatically installed the loki version. I had to odin the Canadian tar file back to get my recovery working, so any canadians who do what I did, do not update your recovery through rom manager or goo or else it will install the lokified version.

Thanks for that! Now I am not completely up to speed on kernels, I know what they do in a vague way, but will be educating myself in the coming weeks, but shouldn't att kernels work for Canadian devices? If they don't always, what she I be on the lookout for? I will be doing some research on them as I have a chance... Hard right now as I have a 2 year old!

Can't flash KK ROMS

Hey,
Recently I tried to flash PA Rom Beta (KK ROM) with CWM, and got the status 7 error - installation aborted.
Tried all the fixes that there is on the internet... Nothing works.
Tried to flash CM11 instead - same error, again.
Downloaded CM10.2 (JB ROM) and it works.
So I think that I'm not able to flash any KK 4.4 ROMs to my device.
Does it maybe have to be something with my Modem version, or the Recovery?
Help :crying:

I installed CWM Advanced Edition, but when I'm trying to enter it, i get "secure booting error"...
After a search, I found out that I need to flash the stock KDZ file for my device.
I've tried using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
But I'm getting an error that says "Please update R&D Tool" after choosing Upgrade Start. -_-
Is there maybe another tool that I can use for flashing the KDZ file?
Thanks a lot!

Unzip Rom, go into meta.inf and Google and updater script and open it in notepad++ and remove first 4 lines where it says about phone details don't touch anything else and save it and repack Rom using the new updated script and then flash it.

[Q] Custom Rom Help

Hello all, long time lurker here with a couple if questions. Not new to rooting: I've rooted an HTC Inspire, HTC One X, and finally this bad boy. This is definitely a different experience and there seems to be a lot of info that developers assume you know but even after reading everything recommended I still feel very confused. I am on the MDL baseband, rooted and flashed with the 4.3 GPE version which I think was pulled from a nexus variant. Here are my questions:
1) Are there any stock, rooted, Touch Wiz ROMs with the AT and T bloat removed?
2) What does Loki do, and if not explicitly stated that it's used in a ROM, do I install it before flashing the ROM or after?
Sent from my SGH-1337 using xda app-developers app
There's plenty, and you can flash ROMs from any S4 variant though you might need to flash an at&t kernel. Loki is our method to bypass the locked bootloader, and if you flash a ROM without it then it won't boot.

Thanks for the reply! I can't seem to find any ROMs in the Android Development forum that are described as such.

1.) Check out Shostock. It's built from stock source and works very well. It is pretty close to what you are looking for.

I like iB's GoldenEye rom. Has zip to delete bloat. You can open zip and delete lines you don't want deleted. IE I delete S-Memo from script so it doesn't delete it from rom. Perfect rom for me, good battery life also. Very smooth.
