Bro and sis, is there a way to make sure whether i am connected via wifi or 3g? Cuz my 3g dataplan is not unlimited.
Thanks.
Hold the power button down until the device option screen pops up, the same screen that turns it off. You'll see a Data network mode. Select that so that it shows Data network mode deactivated. Now 3g is off for sure.

you can also use widget or personally go to setting to turn off 3g
but somehow, every time my wifi is on, 3g is automatically off
u wont see the symbol on notification bar anymore
thanks bros, nice method.
I've had issues with wifi randomly dropping. Some times I wont notice and the 3g handles my traffic even though I don't want it to due to only getting the 1gb plan. With fully deactivating the 3g data I know when I drop my wifi and am ensured that I've turned my tab into a wifi only device.

The tab uses wifi first when available, and puts the cellular modem to sleep.
I have a new AT&T Galaxy S4. It's not rooted or anything. It's stock.
I connect to my home Wifi in the evening. During the day at work, I turn off Wifi and use LTE. When I get home and I turn Wifi back on, it has forgotten my Wifi network. This is without restarting the phone or anything.
Has anyone else noticed this? I have never had this issue on an Android phone.

How are you turning off WiFi? Are you disconnecting it and then turning it off? Or just turning it off?

I'm just toggling it using the toggle in the notification shade.
I have also noticed that the list of Wifi networks is huge, including Wifi networks that are not even in range and it doesn't seem to be prioritizing the ones that have the strongest signal. I manually created a wifi network with the info for my router and have toggled it off and on a few times and it's connecting automatically, but I shouldn't have had to do this.

The "List" of wifi networks that are huge are networks you HAVE connected too in the past...
Say you come to my house and Connect to my Network. You Come back home your still gonna see my network in that list, as you had connected to it before... its like that with EVERY phone and device that connects to wifi. If you want them gone just click on them and select forget.

Did you log into a Google Account you have used Previously on another phone? If you did NOT uncheck the box when signing into google it will sometimes load the networks you had from an older phone. If not then your phone is NOT NEW
It's definitely new. It came out of a sealed box. I did restore an old account. Thing is, I can't "forget" any of those networks. It's not an option.

thats very odd you might just need to reform a factory reset.
new S4 forgetting wifi networks
Having the same issue here, occasionally I will walk into the house or the office to find that the S4 has forgotten the network key and I have to type it in again manually.
I leave wifi turned pretty much all the time and when it's working right it logs on to which ever router is in range. Unfortunately most of the time it's not working right & I'm doing a lot of typing.
Have done a factory reset with no effect.
Any thoughts would be VERY welcome.

Give a try to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51180156&postcount=2
This method works with my I337 NI1 Unlocked Rooted. I uses ES Explorer with Root Explorer enabled.
I went to the "system " folder in the device, scrolled down until I found "build prop" then edited using ES Explorer Note Editor.
Greatly appreciated and high credit to dajumper's work !!

Hello Everyone,
Recently (for the past 1 week or so)... I am having serious connection issues with my wi-fi. I cant really say that its an issue with my ISP. All the other devices like PS3, laptop work fine.
Problem is.. when I connect to my wi-fi, the connection stays strong for a a while then browsing, playing games, Facebook just doesn't seem to connect. The Internet connection just dies. I checked the wi-fi settings, it says connection is too weak to use!
It is happening soon after I had the last system update. Can't say if its to blame. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you should try to uncheck from the Advance Wifi Setting the Avoid poor connection option.

Hmm... could not find that setting anywhere.
This may not work, but maybe try a static IP rather than a DHCP-allocated one.
Edit - Yep, you will need to 'forget' the connection & re-add it in order to set a static IP.
Well I tried the static option. But with that the connect button is grayed out.

Search again, because it's your solution. It is a new feature from 4.3. Maybe with different name because our language. It is inside wifi, advanced. If it detects wifi data connection is poor (don't confuse with wifi signal, is different but related), it automatically switch the connection from wifi to 3g/4g to prevent disconnections from the world...

A screenshot will not help you, first because I have it in spanish, second bercause you need to know the route to get that option better than to see it. I will try to translate the name of the option but not 100% sure you will find it as is:
settings->wifi->push left button (menu)->choose "Advanced" on the pop-uped menu->6th option from top says "Automatic network switching (Switch automatically between wifi networks and mobile networks)": uncheck it.
Hey everyone. I just bought a used Sprint LG G2 and like the phone overall. I am having a few issues, the most annoying one it seems is that when my phone is on my home wifi it is always downloading/uploading. The arrows are active 99% of the time and the only way I can stop it from transmitting data is to disable wifi and it won't do it over the cellular data network. I have turned off automatic syncing and everything I could think of that would transmit data over wifi on my phone. I tried restoring the firmware back to shipping firmware using flashtools and taking all the OTA updates again, I have tried simply factory resetting it as well and then not downloading any apps or logging into anything and it still seems to persist. This is only on my home internet and I have tried 2 different routers now. I go to a large university with a campus wide wifi network and it doesn't do this when I'm on my school wifi. It also doesn't happen when on a friend of mines home wifi network with a newer Linksys router. I cannot figure out why my home wifi data connection is constantly active. I haven't had this issue with any other phone so it is something to do with the interaction of my phone with network or something.
Wow no one has this issue? That must explain why there isn't a ton of results when I google it.
If you download an app called GSAM Battery Monitor, you should be able to see which app is hogging the wifi.
I have gsam and wasn't aware of this feature. I was using another app that said the system was constantly downloading and uploading about 5kb of data at all times. It has to be something network side since its only on my home wifi but I'm not good with wireless networking if it's not a cell network so I don't even know where to start. I tried restoring both of my routers to stock and it didn't fix it.

It seems my note use quite long time (apparently 1 min) to connect to a Wi-Fi. I try several networks with the same result. My Z2 and s4 connects straight away. Anybody else have this problem?
Edit: After several tests I can say that the average connection time (from I turn wi-fi on and until connection is established) is 25 seconds!!!! My Z2 is 5 sec. and my Z2 tablet is 7 sec. What are your times?
Tested on 3 different wi-fi networks today and still all taking long time for connecting
Have not heard of this problem. Try resetting the phone and nothing is solved, then might be hardware defect. Use warranty or find a way to get a replacement would be my best guess.
I reset the phone - and I try to time how long time for connecting to the wi-fi (only have 3 wi-fi networks in range) It take 25-30 sek to connect - is this normal? Every time I turn on wi-fi the box with networks available come in.... Everybody get this?
This box I get everything I turn on wi-fi. Is this normal?

How long time does it take for your note to get connection?
It's almost instant at home, but takes a few seconds when I'm at uni (eduroam). My S4 used to be unable to connect to eduroam during the first few attempts, so the Note 4 is a definite improvement.

Is it really so hard to tell how long time your note 4 take to connect to a wi-fi........? ?

I think it depends on the hotspot you're connecting to. It's instant at home because it's a personal network, while in a university it's a more complicated structure with thousands of users connected at the same time. So I don't think there's anything wrong with your phone, it's more the networks you're connecting to. You other phones may connect quicker due to compatibility between modem and router.

It's probably a matter of compatibility between the Note 4 modem and your router. So long as it connects and the speeds are the expected, you have nothing to worry about.

I really would like some help here.... Could you please try to time the connection and post your result here.
I had something similar a few times, but a just turning off and on the router solved it.

Thanks - but I already tried to turn off and on the router.
After a bit more testing I found that it is actually the "start up" time for the wi-fi that's taking time - and not the connection time. If I change wi-fi network while the WiFi is on I nearly get instantly connection on all networks. So the question is if your start up time for WiFi also is 20 seconds???
I had this problem couple days ago. Restarted my phone and problem was gone.
Tried to change to a static IP Address - but nothing changes ?
