I've been on android for many years, and know my way around for sure. I've been running the CM10.1 nightlies with the faux123 kernel for quite a while and everything was working well. Suddenly in the last few days, Gmail sync stopped working. The odd thing is that Exchange emails are getting pushed, Chrome to phone works, calendar, browsing etc. all work. Gmail will eventually sync, but I need to open the Gmail application app and force a sync.
Here is what I've already tried
- Disable and enable gmail sync
- Clear cache
- Clear data
- Installed stock 4.2.2 ROM (bigxies)
- Reinstalled CM10.1 after a factory reset
- Installed stock again
- Reinstalled new baseband and radio
I'm now running stock 4.2.2 and still can't get Gmail sync to work. Can anyone offer any advice?
When reinstalling/changing ROMs are you restoring account system data with TitaniumBackup? I had one account not syncing for like a month across three different ROMs. Had to just delete and add all my accounts again to fix it.
You haven't tried removing and re-adding your Google account?

No, only restoring apps + app data. I never back up system data.

Yes, I did this first (forgot it in my list), and did this when I did a factory reset with stock ROM twice as well.
This happened to me whenever I tried restoring Gmail app+data from Ti Backup. Whenever I wipe, I have to uninstall Gmail and redownload from Google Play.
It was odd. I finally got it working but turning off Gmail sync for 24 hours, and then back on. It was the oddest thing, but I guess it fixed itself.

Hi All,
I'm running CyanogenMod 4.11.1.1 (but have been having this problem since 4.0.4). My G-mail sync is semi-b0rked. It never updates anymore, even if I manually select the "refresh" option it doesn't update. The only thing that works is, if I go in to Gmail's settings, select "labels" and modify the # of days to sync for, it will magically update. So, I've been manually toggling it between 3 and 4 days of sync time just to get it to update whenever I'm expecting a new e-mail, but it's quite annoying that it stopped working on its own.
My guess is that some library or system file related to gmail got nuked during the cyanogen upgrade, but I've upgraded to several other versions (and even tried restoring a nanroid backup) but gmail still isn't syncing.
Yes, I've double-checked all the settings and everything's set to sync properly (I'd never disabled it in the first place, either).
Any hints on what I can do (I've tried wiping) to get this to work again would be greatly appreciated.
Go in to Settings>Apps>Manage Apps, find GMail and GMail storage and tap the clear data and clear cache buttons for both. Reboot.

Cheers mate, that did it!
I'm actually having the same exact issue. Manual syncing works fine but the phone refuses to sync automatically. The only piece of advice I've found is clearing the cache for Gmail and Gmail Storage. I've done this and it has no effect. I'm running Cyanogen 4.04 stable. It's driving me nuts and makes this phone pretty much useless for me since I rely on it to receive dispatch e-mails. Any other thoughts? I'm ready to just say f it and go back to a stock ROM.

Are you clearing both data and cache? That has always fixed this issue for me - and I've had it on even stock ROMs.

Did you clear both the data and the cache or just the cache?

go to your settings>sd card> at the bottom hit the reset button..it says it deletes your info but it hasnt not once .. it just clears everything.. try it
Yer mine comes and goes, tried a few Hero's, stock cupcake/donut ROM, cyanogen 4.0.4 thru to 4.1.11.1
Works for a few hours, stop working. Found gTalk works fine, but the Market will only work if gmail is syncing properly. usually will work every 2 days or so, for 4~20 hours... really really strange.
Hi,
I've been using Fresh Toast v2 beta2 for a while now, with no obvious issues.
Now, all of a sudden, I'm getting issues syncing with gmail.
I'm sitting here looking at my settings, and my gmail account has not been synced since 7.58am, and it's now 10.30am on June 7th.
Auto Sync is ticked.
BAckground data is ticked.
Is anyone having similar issues ?
I have already been through unchecking them all, clearing data and cache for gmail and gmail storage, rechecking, rebooting etc etc.

Do a nandroid backup, try a different ROM and report back with results.
I removed all of my accounts, except for the primary one.
Removed all caches, rebooted, added back the accounts, and all seems to be working OK. I'll report back in a few days and see if all is well.
This just started happening on Friday, I've already missed crucial emails. This is the latest version of Gmail. Data & Synchronization settings are set to push. Nothing has changed on my phone. Any ideas??
Have you tried removing then adding back your account?
I have, I even removed Gmail's latest update under App settings but that made it not work at all. After reapplying the update gmail only works by manually refreshing. Or by going to Settings/Accounts/Sync All. I can always to a fresh install. Just baffled at how this happened out of the blue for both my gmail accounts. Running stock 2.2
try Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, find the Gmail app and clear Data. It worked for me.

If that doesn't work, you may have to do a factory reset. If THAT doesn't work, call vzw and get them to send you a new phone.
Ended up wiping it. Thanks for possible solutions. Wiping fixed it. Whatever it was, cost me a few hours of reinstall and reconfiguring. love it.
hi, i am using pongsters hyperdroid cm7 rom and have been using jorte as the calender app and syncing it to my google account for a couple of months.
Then about a week ago all my calender entries dissapeared. I checked my google account and all is still there but i am simply unable to get any calender app on my phone to regain sync and all the entries?
I have tried clearing data rebooting the phone uninstalling and then reinstalling numerous apps but none can regain sync for any past entries. can some whizz on here offer any advice?
cheers.
edit - ok i again tried uninstalling every calender app. then clearing data for the two remaining calenders. rebooted and then reinstalled. I then synced with google and it worked. Not sure why it worked this time and not the last dozen but hey got there in the end.
Mods feel free to delete this thread.
2 weeks ago I flashed PA 3.6 on my N4. after a day or so i noticed that i was not receiving any incoming emails on a Hotmail or exchange account. BUT if i went into the email account and manually hit the "sync" button emails would populate. I was previously on a PA 3.XX Rom and had no issue.
I installed the new rom, wiped cache, installed Gapps update, Fix and still nothing. The only new app i installed was Swipe, i uninstalled that, cleared email app cache and still nothing unless i manually sync. I then moved up to PA 3.65 yesterday and the same issue. So i decided to delete all the email accounts and re-create them. Now it lets me create an account and verified the credentials on the accounts but never completes a "sync" and seems to be stuck in a constant loop.
This is on wifi or the network. Anyone have similar issues? i have found no posts regarding this. Worst case i could just do a factory reset and try that if i have to.
Thanks!
I get this all the time with new ROMs. The last ROM that acted up was MakoColors, before that was MIUI, then PA before that. It must just take time, because my Nandroid backups (I rotate between PA and MIUI every week or so; I love them) seem to be working. I encounter it every single time I try a new ROM, then it just magically fixes itself after a few days. I don't understand it either, OP. I have a Gmail and a Hotmail account; the Hotmail account is the only one that has problems (makes sense that the Gmail one wouldn't act up). I have no idea how to fix it though. It's quite annoying.
I wish that was the case. I had 3.6 installed for about 9 days and it was still the same story. I've tried to change from push to a different interval and back to push and same outcome.
Ok, I gotta bump this thread because I'm now getting this problem with the 4.3 leak. My email refuses to sync no matter what I do. It's a Hotmail account. Anyone know what could be the cause? Stuck on the sync screen with no emails or anything on my phone.

I fixed my issue by doing a factory wipe. nothing else worked no matter how many times I flashed.
let it in peace, it will sync. this is not a problem with a rom, not pa or miui or whatever you flash - it just takes times. i recently bought my mom a macbook air, it took one hour until her mails were there, when i set up one of my android device i just put them away to allow them to get sync their stuff. i noticed especially in the legacy mail app this can take quite long but you can be certain there is no difference between stock android and PA in that regard.
I flashed pa 3.65 and it worked, I just had to start clean. dirty flash was producing the same result every Rom I flashed.
I had this happen to my Nexus 7. For about a month. No play store. It linked fine, I could go into the play store on the N7, just couldn't install from the browser. A little inconvenience, but no biggy. Today I wanted to squash it. lol.
What I did was clear data and uninstall updates from settings-apps-all. Then opened up the play store and saw it was the old version of play, which was fine. Exited out and went back into the play store. I got a message that I needed to enable or download the play services app from the play store, which is weird because I already have it. So what I did there was clear all data in that app and sign into the play services app. Again, exited out and went back into the play store. Play updated automagically, but I still couldn't see the N7 listed under my devices in my browser. I let it go for about an hour because I got busy at work. Decided that if it didn't show up by the end of the day, I would factory reset and redo everything. So I began my titanium backup.
Before that, I let TB and went into the market update helper to attach the apps again to the market. Then I started my apps and data backup just in case I needed to do a factory reset.
About a hour later, I see the N7 back under my settings.
