Was just wondering if there was anyway that wifi direct would work on the nexus 7? Basically trying to stream stuff from the tablet to the tv/xbox/etc etc. Is there anything that does that besides wifi direct or?

download app "superbeam" and if your using a samsung device switch off s-beam
standard nfc transfer = uses bluetooth
s-beam / superbeam app = uses wifi-direct
the superbeam app basically lets you transfer "s-beam" style using a non samsung device

ah. so the superbeam app will let me beam to the tv and stuff? I'm using a samsung TV, so I don't know if that would be an issue?

I use the app bluetooth file transfer, it is available on the market. I used it last night to transfer files and it worked flawlessly.

I keep getting an error that says that I some service doesn't work with the phone and that I can only upload. When I upload, it doesn't work. Perhaps the G2 doesn't support Bluetooth file transfers. Is that possible?
Do you need it installed on both devices?

Yes you have to install the app on both devices. I am not familiar with the G2 as I use it with D1 and the A500. From what I remember reading a while back the android BT is lacking on some of the stack that allows for file transfers. This app fixes it.

Just to let you know I am able to transfer files from the a500 to my Samsung galaxy and vice versa using the stock bluetooth on both devices. On the a500 I used file manager hd and selected share via bluetooth. Once they both connect the files transfer without any problems.
I think default android bluetooth filetransfer only allows certain types of files, like .jpg's and some other media.
Not 100% sure though, but I never managed to send files like apk's.
Bluetooth File Transfer worked perfectly and is actually a pretty cool app! Thanks!
Dropbox works too. I use it across my phone, tablet, and computer.

I use the bluetooth add-on for astro, no problems getting stuff to or from my DZ, which is the same hardware as the g2.
Hey guys. I'm loving my N7 but I have 8 GB (gift not choice) and I'm having issues getting the most out of the space
I want to quickly move large files to my GNex. Native WiFi Direct will connect the devices but no native share option shows in gallery or file manager. Many WiFi sharing apps use actual WiFi and not Direct. The very few that do are clunky and not hat great (IMO)
I do not own a S3 but from what I read S-Beam is exactly what I'm looking for (NFC to connect WiFi) but the threads on the matter go unanswered.
For now I'm using Anysend and waiting until I get home to transfer but I was just wondering if anyone has better options

Hi, there's an app on the play store called 'WiFi shoot' or 'shoot wifi' . I can't remember it uses WiFi direct and will give you the option in the gallery's or file browsers to send it
It was made by another user on here.
Edit. It's called wifishoot!. Links here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.budius.WiFiShoot&hl=en
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test it as my arc doesn't support WiFi direct. But it was made to work with the gnex so you should have no problem

Thanks! Turns out AnySend can set devices to auto accept and transfer. The UI is also very clean so other than not using direct, I'm OK with it
I have used WiFi Shoot and its half of what I'm looking for. It crashes and errors many times (this could only be me) and the share option takes you to the app and needs the other device to have the app open
Anysend is good enough unless an APK of S-Beam can be ported I'll use it and keep the hunt on

in case you are still looking for options to share data thru wi-fi and wi-fi direct, i developed an app "PeerDeviceNet" which allows you do exactly that and more. It has been on google play for a while. unfortunately i cannot post the link here (too new to post external links). you can find links at my web site: peerdevicenet.net , or search for it at google play. i tested with nexus 7, samsung tab2, kindle fire(last year version), and an old galaxy phone. it supports android 2.2+.

Hey guys,
I just joined up today so bare with me as I am new. My wife just got the Nexus 4 and I currently have the Galaxy Note 2. We are both with tmobile. We were trying to "bump" phones last night to share music. Everytime I tried to share a song from my phone to hers it would get all the way to the point where it would have you click the screen and then pull the phone away but then nothing happened on her end or android google play store would pop open with a error message. Can you not use Android Beam and S-beam together? Do you have to use certain settings?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

You are correct, the two types of beam are incompatible with each other. Not sure of a fix as I have no use for it.
I haven't tried music but I know you need to turn S-beam off and keep NFC on, that's how I was able to send pictures from my Nexus 4 to my friend's Galaxy S3

So what is the point of android beam and S-beam if you can use them together? Just use S-beam with S-beam phones? And Android beam with android beam phones aka isnt that only Nexus phones? That is frustrating. Thanks for your response by the way!!!

So what do u reccommend for sending music..wifi direct or bluetooth?
Just turn off S-beam. I have successfully sent files to and from a couple of SGS3's with my Nexus 4 with no issues.

If you have WiFi you can try WiFi file transfer. It allows other devices to browse your file system.

What's works for me is after turning off S-Beam, I've turned off and on my Android Beam all over again. Before I did that I was having same old opening Play Store issue. After that everything is normal now.
Not sure if you are still interested or have figured it out already, since it's been 5 months passed since your post
Copyright maybe?
dont you think maybe nexus 4 block it?
i have had issue transferring .apk using bluetooth, need to rename b4 transfer.
maybe the same for music. furthermore, you use G.play
sorry, just an idea

Maybe with one of the ROM that have tablet mode it will work.
Edit: You can control your PC from NOTE II with Splashtop Streamer but not the opposite.
It's working for me with sungsonic hd v2.

Splashtop doesn't allow running apps. Do you know other remote control app that allow running the phone apps within the remote session?

Splashtop is to control your PC from your phone. When you connect to your PC via Splashtop your phone become Windows XX and you can fully use your Windows/MAC/Linux from your phone even if you're not at home as it use the internet to connect. You can even set Splashtop as a second monitor and use it as an extended desktop. Pretty useful if you have a tablet.
Mobizen control your PHONE from pc.
To my knowledge only Mobizen can control phone app from remote.

Not for that app that I know of, but root is ez
What about an app like "Bluetooth Mouse" as a bluetooth enabled touchpad device. There is an option within the app to become discoverable as a bt mouse would be. Seems like the NP would simply add it as another input device.
i have my nexus 4 and nexus 5 kernels support usb hid mouse support, so you can plug in your phone and use it as a mouse as well
