Hello,
I recently noticed on my S4 the color gets greenish tone when the keyboard is opened. This can be seen on Youtube app, message app and stock browser, however I am sure this can happen in other places.
Basically when the keyboard is opened all the screen changes to a greenish tone almost like there was a filter applied to the screen. Also, it is much more noticeable on a dark environment. This seems a color temperature change.
Anyone has this or knows any fix? I am guessing this is a software issue and not hardware due to the fact that only happens when the keyboard is opened.
I have kind of a similar issue. Although my screen does not become green, it definitely changes its color tone, from a bit red (top of my screen does have a slight pink tint) to a neutral one. Guess it's software related too, but couldn't find any fix/comment regarding the issue.

Thank you for your reply. This is definately a software issue. I am using AME2 rom and my phone is from vodafone ireland. This is my second one as the first one I got had a crack right our of the box, near the light sensor and I am almost certain that the first one didn't had this.
Also, I cannot confirm but I think that on the previous rom (MDM if I remember correctly) this didn't happen. I hope a fix can be found soon as this is really annoying specially on youtube on a dark environment.

Anyone having the "Blue Tint" problem? it happens when i am on the lowest brightness level and i open up the gmail app the white has a bluish tint. I went to the tmobile store and they exchanged my phone because the display model displayed perfect white when set at the lowest brightness and the gmail app was opened. some euro galaxy s users are also reporting of a blue tint problem when displaying whites. Any one experiencing this?

I've got the same issue. I just figured it was a product of the SAMOLED screen, but I guess I'll swing by the T-Mob store tomorrow and see what's up.
I thought it was a little strange that the Gmail client opened and the tint changed a bit. I also figured it was just something that happens with the SAMOLED.
Please give us an update after you stop by the T-mo store.
Yep its blue here too. I sorta thought it was a bit odd, but figured oh well it sure is easy on the eyes thou.
Can you provide an example?

uhh, that's not normal?
When my wife first saw the screen she said there was a blue tint to it but I wasn't able to see it. But now that others are seeing it too, maybe it is a problem.
Here's what I did... I downloaded one of those flashlight apps that turns your entire screen white. I then did a screen shot with Shoot Me app (for root users).
Then I compared the screen shot with the actual screen and took a picture of it.
I'm not sure if this is a good enough experiment since color settings on my monitor can be different but here is a pic for you guys nonetheless.
The Vibrant color temperature appears to be running hot at about 7800K. There should be a way to adjust the color temperature somewhere.
Someone posted about this in the i9000 section.

Seems like it's an SAMOLED issue, but if others have seen demo phones that appear 'warmer', maybe it's not.
Just got back from my trip to the T-Mob store and played with the demo model and 2 reps personal phones any they all have the same issue. I'm going to chalk it up to it being part of the SAMOLED technology and ignore it. It doesn't bother me at all, but if it was a small group that had the issue, I would have exchanged my phone.

This very interesting because I did recognize the blue tint on my phone as well, however my girlfriends phone has a soft yellow tint.
I'm curious what is causing this to happen.
(I remember on the iphones, the old ones had a blue clear tint, while the newer screens had the very same soft yellow tint to it. I know they are two very different screen technology, but it's interesting that I'm seeing it again, except on two of the same batch of phones. I checked the boxes and they are from the same, "litter.")
Anyone find out how we can adjust the color temp on our phones?
I guess, Samsung just averaged this tint. Since blue amoleds with time degrade faster then others, the things will be better at some point and end up with yellow tint several years from now.

I took a picture with my Canon 5D...if you look up at the very top at the black strip that goes across where the notifications show up, you can see the color difference.
If you look closely at the picture you can tell the left is blue and the right is yellow.
IT'S MUCH MORE NOTICEABLE IN WITH THE NAKED EYE.
Any thoughts?

First and foremost, I wouldn't call it a "problem," as the thread indicates. It just is what it is and does no harm...
Anyhow here's some pictures I took of the four Vibrants I have. You can definitely see the contrast now. My phone is #4 on far right. Ice cold blue eh? or actually blue flame kelvin hot! It looks like my HID's on my car and the yellow on the other phones look like my stock yellow oem headlights...
Something I noticed today while reading through comments on Endgadget is that every time I would scroll down (or up), the tint would turn more blue as it scrolled. Release my finger from the screen, and the tint would "snap" back to yellow.
The difference in tint is very subtle, but once I caught onto it, I found it distracting.
I cant say I'm able to replicate this behavior on other websites. Google News and NYT, for example, are fine. Furthermore, I'm not seeing it in the XDA app, Gmail, or the Market.
My overall screen brightness is set to 0 and my browser brightness is also at 0.
Anyone else seeing this?
I have an iphone 3G in hand next to my Vibrant. The iphone's browser clearly has a very neutral white, whereas the Samsung presents whites as very blue-green and much dimmer. I have mine set to auto-bright levels. How do you change the browser's brightness independently?

Probably the case. Now I'm wondering if it's a setting in the software or if it's a physical LED characteristic?

I can replicate this issue on XDA via the brower on any brightness setting. The screen's slight blue (cool) tint becomes yellowy (warm) when I hold my finger on the page or scroll. Additionally, images become noticeably distorted during the hold-tap, so I assume low quality cache images are being generated for smoother scrolling, and the color temperature is accidentally changed as well.
This would appear to be an issue that software fixes may be able to counter (if any of this is indeed a hardware issue in the first place).
I have a relatively new (1w) sgs3 and have notice that in the dark room when screen has a darkish grey too off-black background solid colour (even on the stock notification background) and with tge brightness on lowest setting, then there many blob marks in the screen.
I ran a pixel checker which is fine but this appears like a defect in the glass itself. I'm not using a screen protector yet.
Can anyone else notice these blobs, some of which are as big as 3-4mm diameters?

Its completely normal on Super Amoled screens. I have them but it doesn't bother me since it only occurs on black screens. FYI, there was already a lot of topics about this already...

Haven't seen it on the SIII, but on the SII I have, this would happen with screen filter on lower brightness. I think that it has something to do with the level at which the pixels fire optimally. If they are under fed, essentially, the inherent flaws in the screen matrix (as in any manufactured item) become visible where they otherwise wouldn't.
I know this has been beaten to death, but it varies from phone to phone. My i9300 had a lot of blobs. My second one only really has one noticeable one. My i747 is almost perfect. It has little dots, but they are spread out and pretty much near the border of the screen. I wish it would have been the other way around...
please search before posting this topic has been discussed in great detail in another thread.
common on super amoled hd panels.
Same issue too. Checked with Samsung and they said it's common for the screen. Only occurs in black pictures low back light and dark room and it doesn't bother me

I bought an i9505 today. I noticed very bad scrolling artifacts especially on a black background. This can be best seen when scrolling up and down in a menue in the preferences. The white letters on black background smear alot. This effect gets worse when turning brightness down. The responsiveness of the s4 display seem quite bad. The s3, which i also own does a whole lot better in this regard.
Can other S4 owners confirm this problem? Has the octa the same problem? Main reason i bought this phone was the oled display. I am quite dissapointed.

something is definitely wrong with it. exchange it immediately in case something is wrong with the second one.
Mine does it too. Most noticeable scrolling through contacts.

So if I am not the only one experiencing this it seems to be an inherent problem of the new amoled. In theory amoled has a very fast response time. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the s4 displays true black i.e. the screen is absolutely black in black areas of the screen. The s3 does not turn the pixels completely off, it has blacker blacks than lcd but no absolute blacks like the s4. I am sure Samsung did this for a reason in th s3, maybe to avoid the problem we are experiencing with the s4. I wonder why none of the reviews reports about this issue.

Mine doesn't smear when scrolling unless you mean if you scroll fast it looks smeared? I put that down to scrolling quicker than my eyes can focus if yours is smearing when moving slowly then I'd swap it!
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium HD app
The effect can be best seen on black background with brightness set to low. For example when scrolling in preferences watch the horizontal grey sepparation lines. When scrolling slowly the almost dissapear on my phone. So maybe one should not call it smearing but there clearly visible moving arifacts on my phone.

I have the same problem. It is annoying in black backgrounds whith grey letters.
I noticed this straight away and started a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252445 (5 pages long already)
My S3 does not suffer with this problem at all.
The screen is a step down apart from the blacks which are much deeper.
My issue: the red subpixels stay on, this is the SGS4 and SGS2 viewing the same 100% black image.
The effect is a bit more dramatic on these pics than real life, to get a proper exposure. The red pixels are only at low intensity, but it's still easily noticeable.
Hi.
I had the same problem with I9505OXAAMDE firmware. I update firmware to I9505OXAAMDM and subpixels are ok. Now my screen is black, but now i have smearing in setup menu and contact.
I hope that in the future fix this problem.

Interesting. You did not have the 'smearing' before? Because I do see some of that also. On i9505-XXUAMDF.
In the previous firmware did not have smearing.

Old post but mine dose it too!! Galaxy s5
I've noticed whenever the keyboard is toggled on or off the greys change their hue.
It's subtle but most noticeable when on low brightness and in a fairly dim room.
I noticed it the most in the Playstore when you click the search bar at the top it brings up a list of resent searches, now hit the back button to make the keyboard disappear and the whole screen changes hue, click search bar again and it changes back when keyboard reappears.
Can someone else please test this?
I'm just trying to work out if my screen is defective or if it is an 'issue' with all S4s.
Thank you
Yeah, mine changes hue a little as well. Strangely I had my screens changed four times but this is the first time I noticed it.

Thank you for checking. It is actually quite noticeable when you're in a dark room, it's really bugging me!
This is my third handset, the first had a serious pink tint on the bottom of the screen and the second had a light horizontal band across screen when viewing white or grey images.
This one also has 'banding' on light coloured or grey images but not half as bad as my second!
I have the banding issue too! But my problem was mostly dead pixels and stuff. My current set has one tiny spec of dust under the screen but they told me I couldn't change it anymore.

I got the AT&T SGS4 today and upon getting home I realized the lower left corner of my phone's screen has a slight pinkish hue to it. Is this common and I'm being overly anal and just need to deal with it or is this an actual defect with my phone? If this is something common are there any apps that can adjust screen settings to alleviate this? Is there a screen "break-in" time needed for colors to normalize on the SGS4?
It is a seriously small thing, but it just bothers me and will continue to do so for at least the first few weeks of ownership. Also I have spent 4 hours researching this, but all I can find on the internet are results for the SGS2 and SGS3 and Gnex screen issues, oh and a few threads on the Gnote...in other words the internet seems saturated with Galaxy making it hard to search.
Thanks for any answers.
Bump
I have the same problem the lower half of my screen towards the bottom has a slight pinkish purple tint to it that's only visible in Grey's and sometimes and other types of screens but it's definitely there. And no it is not normal just grab another s-4 and put it aside by side and you will see the difference. Go and exchange it if you can

I came to the S4 after two HTC Ones that both had build quality issues, I'm going to the give the phone a week to "settle" since I am tired of going to the AT&T store and maybe with enough screen on time it can balance out (I don't know, I'm just hopeful). In the mean time is there any app that can be used to adjust the contrast or gamma settings with or without root? I've been trying to find one so I can at least "hide" the screen difference, but so far the only thing similar I can find is "Color Temperature" settings that based upon the threads I've been through are only in Task650's AOKP.
I just checked mine on a white and grey screen and there is a very slight purple tint. I also now hate you for making me notice it because I never did before.
To be honest though it is barely visible and doesn't bother me. Reminds me of the screen lines on the gs2 that I eventually got used to and forgot were there.
