[Q] Call recording - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

So I've used xposed framework and then used tweak box module for call recording and I've also used a individual call recording module and on both of these the button comes up in the dialer but once pressed it eighther freezes my phone and I have to wait for the force close to come up or it does nothing.. I'm on stock touchwiz I've also used a apk that I've used on the galaxy s3 and even that won't work.. So has anyone been able to get this working on stock touch wiz?

Until a mod comes along, I'm using an app called InCall Recorder from the Play store. It does a good job recording calls. The only thing it cant do for our S4 is call recording through Bluetooth headset.

What settings did you use to record both sides? I didn't have any luck with this app.

I didn't change much, if at all, from the stock install setup. My call record is set to Manual, record activate button set up to the Left side, and Gain of +2.

I don't know if shabby's recovery is a stock kernel but that setting didn't work for me. I'll try again.

I don't know if the kernel matters but I was using shabby's kernel with the frandom module. Right now, I'm using agat's v0.2.0 kernel.

Bah, it's not working for me as well. I wonder if it's b/c I'm now on MDL with a non-stock kernel. I did try with the Speaker option, however, and recording through the speaker still works.
Cant wait until someone comes up with the call recording mod.

I'm stock MDC. I love the way they have this app setup though. It's very easy to use. It has great reviews and people seem to say it works. Hopefully they'll update it to work with the s4.

Voice dialer

I'm on eb13 and just wondering if anyone else's voice dialer works? When I try to open it from the app drawer it opens and makes a buzzing sound and then says try again after rebooting your phone. Anyone else.have this problem? Thanks.
Sent from my Evo Killer!!!
Mine pops up the example list of commands and flashes "Listening...", appears to work normally (usually I have it uninstalled)
Never tried it till just now. I'm having the same issue. Tells me to restart my phone. I'm running dameons deodexed eb13.

Mine appears to be working fine. The only thing is sometimes it has a hard time understanding me. And no I'm not Chinese. LOl.
I open the voice dialing with the headset not the app. I think its intended to work that way.

Yeah I wonder why that is. My wife's evo works just fine. I'm running dameons too. For those that it works on are you all running dameons deodexed rom? Thanks for.the replies.

We should post about this bug in Dameon's thread. It appears the folks that are running EB13 straight up, are not having the issue.

Same here - Dual Boot Kernel. Didn't try voice dial before updating to CM3 dual boot.
Thanks - I posted before reading page 2
Fix worked! Thanks for notifying Dameon (both of you at once)
I am still having problems with the voice dialing. However mine seems to be a little different. When I start the voice dialer it says speak now, then right away it says connection lost and closes, I don't get to speak anything.
Has anyone else had this problem? It only seems to be with the builtin voice dialer, Google voice search works fine as does VLingo, however I can't get Voice Search to be the app that comes up when I use voice dialing from my headset. Vlingo works however it doesn't interrupt the sound stream so if music is playing I have to stop that in order for it to understand me, defeating the purpose.

Hi,
I flashed this ROM, and then the "Samurai Kernel 1.3". In general, things are working very well. I however did notice that when making telephone calls while I'm using headphones, only the right channel has audio. The left does not. I don't have a chance to reflash to see if the "Samurai Kernel" is at fault yet..... I remember seeing (or maybe hearing???) this bug a long time ago on CM7 with an older version of Voodoo Sound, but this kernel doesn't have Voodoo sound.... I'm wondering if any other people have seen this issue, or if anyone can tell me that it is the Samurai Kernel 1.3 that is at fault.

Well the "issue" is how headsets are designed. You have your "normal" headsets used for listening to music and have two bands and your hands-free headsets w/mic which have three bands, but the issue that arises are the single ear pieces w/mic which have two bands like "normal" headsets. Since the "normal" headset jack and the single ear piece w/mic jack are designed identically (as far as I can tell) there's no way for the phone to differentiate between them so your phone sees your "normal" headset as a single ear piece w/mic while in a call. Thus audio only out one ear piece while your phone thinks the other is the mic. Course I'm no expert on the matter. This is just a conclusion I've come up with based of what I've seen/read (which honestly isn't much) so I could be way off.

(MOD)Beats Audio Flashable

XDA LINKAGE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226
Have tested on both devices so thought just in case no one has seen this sweetness
Maybe some Rom will do this along with Sony Cam patch ;-)
Read developers op before you flash and have fun they're 3 different files to flash so read and see which one works for you.
The beats logo won't show nor will you see and equalizer option you will however hear the difference!

Is this working on ICS?
Update:
Link for file in OP does mention it working on all versions, including ICS.
I flashed it on ICS and there are no apps or icons but I think its working, music sounds good anyway.
Yes it works on ics and its still beta so no icons or "proof" but I can tell you I can tell a big difference!

No, Beats headphones really have nothing to do with it for the most part. They may be more tailored to it, but overall sound quality should be improved with a good headset.
Nothing can improve the sound quality from the stock speakers
Except an "audio out" port
No luck installing
I downloaded the zip, but it wouldn't flash in CWM so I tried to extract it manually using root explorer. Then I did a reboot and fixed permissions, only to find out that my music player stopped playing almost all of my files (only 2 albums out of my ~1800 songs played) on Google Play Music. I ensured all the files were copied properly, rebooted to recovery and fixed permissions again, this time I got stuck in a boot loop. Ended up re-flashing my ROM and setting up everything again. Pretty sure I did something wrong, but I have no clue what. Judging from some of the responses in the main thread, it doesn't seem like it works anyway... Oh well, I'll stick with Dolby Advanced Audio for now..

Jelly Bean Audio Problem

Bear with me, I'm not the greatest explainer in the world.
Anyway, I'm using the CLASSCY JB ROM, and the audio bug after a call seemed to be fixed. I noticed that the audio was only routed back to the speakers when I pressed OK to the operator pop-up message, telling me my balance etc, or when the phone app was stopped or started again.
So what I did was flash a JB ROM (aokp r4) that I knew had the bug, with the kernel from the CLASSCY ROM to see what would happen if I closed the phone app manually. I didn't need to try though as the same thing happened.
I'm no dev, but it's either a kernel thing and/or the phone app isn't switching back after calls
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
JB roms has got a prob with audio.
Since AOKP is based on CM9.
It was already fixed so its a kernel prob.

The hell are you talking about? I think what the op was trying to say is that the audio problem is kernel related because when he used the Classcy kernel instead of the included kernel in the jellybean based aokp, the problem was fixed.

Yeah, i also tried and it rotate correctly; btw, if someone can control, IMHO the classcy kernel is the same of fxp (141?) because the animation is the same, so maybe the true fixer is the fxp kernel (now i am at the university so i can't verify this idea)

I think it probably is the same kernel.

im pretty sure it isn't but is obviously based on fxp141 perhaps?
How come it worked for you guys on aokp with that kernel but for me audio bug still appears?
The problem isn't completely fixed, today I do other test, and now often the audio rotate correctly, sometimes not
Have you tried closing the phone app? That was the reason I flashed AOKP, to see if that was the problem. I only kept the CLASSCY kernel (FXP?) because I couldn't be bothered to turn on my PC and change kernels.
What I did was play music, make a call (without stopping the music) and I noticed the music played through the ear piece (not during a call) until I pressed OK to the operator pop up you get after outgoing calls. Incoming calls might not trigger the switch. Dunno.

No, I only tried to receive some call, and 3/4 times the audio rotate correctly, in the only wrong case I switch to mute and reactivate the audio; thanks for the advice btw

What you might find loud enough for your uses might not be for others! Like for me if I'm trying to watch a video on anything when I'm in a room with people talking or any noise I can barely hear anything.
I would recommend looking up ViPER4Droid. You can find the thread in the Android Software and Hacking forum. All you so is download both of the APKs (there called XHiFI and HF or something like that, forgot the exact acrynom) in the thread for your android version and put them on your sd card - there is a zip for each one and when you extract them you will get two more zips, one for 4.0 or before and one for versions after, extract the appropriate zip and youll get the apk you need. Install both of them and when you open them up it will prompt you to install a driver, look at the thread for which one to install, and then reboot and your good to go.
You then can open up the apps and there is an abudant amount of settings you can adjust. One of them being speaker loudness level.
But dont follow my instructions, the thread is very thorough and detailed! And explains everything about it, confirmed working on our device, its actually implemented into Blue Kuban already.

If you're rooted try faux kernel with the faux sound found in the market. It works beautifully there is also a beats bass enhancer that you can use with it.
****'ll Buff Out
I bought my s4 last night and the first thing I noticed was that the low speaker volume. I will preach viper mod. I came from the galaxy s2 running jellyverse 3.0 with viper pre installed and WOW the speaker volume is insane loud. On that phone. Thank you inlineboy for verification that this works. Ive searched and found nothing for s4, until now. Installing now ill come back with results.
Ok Back from install. I downloaded fx and XHiFi apks. Installed both drivers. In the Fx app I enabled eXtra Loud and sat it to extreme. Opened XHiFi Enabled it and sat both to small speakers. I did not tweak anything else and the speaker is 2x as loud. The ink effect lock screen is very loud now. Every sound on s4 is 2x loud. Overall Its a score. For those who want to fix their low volume problem, this is the it. I hope this helps someone. Im running stock rooted mdl. I rooted using chainfires method. Installed busybox.

ViperFX is amazing. I have it baked into my E4GT ROMs and I'm running it now.
One thing I found is the driver folder needs to be on the external SD Card to have the drivers show up in the app.

Thats where I found it good ole e4gt. You guys done a great job with that phone. Your roms ran so good when I got my s4 it felt like a slower phone with a bigger screen! Glad to see the same faces over here.

I am currently on The Blue Kuban ROM and it has the Viper Mod built in already. What settings should I adjust or is there something else I need to flash to get my main speaker louder?

I just installed both packages. Hit enable at top and tick xtra loud. After that it worked for me. All sounds much louder. The ink effect in public or the default text rijgtone whistle is so loud people look lol.

I am going to sound dense her but so what.....
What exactly did you do to "install both packages"?
I wear hearing aids and a louder rear speaker even for the alarm clock would be a godsend.
Quality and boost. Am I right g-ding?
