Hey there guys, I got my Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M) last week and im loving it. Its my first android device. The device has a feature which i find rather annoying. When there is an incoming call or text message, the camera flash goes off. Now i realize for many this is neat feature, But i would like to turn it off. I tried looking through settings, but could not find it. Thanks in advance

More info is needed. Stock, rooted, rommed?
If you are using a ROM do not enable the loader earpiece volume in Device Settings.
Look in settings > Accessibility

Hey guys,
is there any chance to stop the phone from switching off the screen on a phonecall?
My problem is that the phone does not respond afterwards and I cannot get the display to work (apart form connecting it to the power source). However, if I call my mailbox (or anything else where you need to touch-input during phonecalls) I am not able to use the display since it is turned off and there is no way to turn it back on.
So, is there a solution where there is a tiny program (or a setting-file, or kernel) that simply diables the screen-switch-off function? I would rather live with big ears typing the touchscreen whilst on the phone instead of rebooting after each call.
Thanks in advance,
jokeR.
There is a free app in the Android market called 'Call Light'. It's supposed to keep your screen on during calls, seems that it doesn't work for everybody though. But for me, it doesn't keep the screen on always during calls, but it does make the screen come on when i take the phone away from my ear. Before installing the app, i had the same problem as you, now i don't at all. If the app doesn't work for you, try changing kernels and still using the app. I am using Rapfringa's 1.7 OC kernel with the rom in my signature and very pleased with the results. Best of luck

Hello. I was using iPhone 4S as my last phone and I love thay it was blocking the screen immediately after finish received call! How can I make the same thing in my SGS4? I can't find it in stock settings .. mayby it's some app for that ? Thanks for help
I have a crack in my screen which seems to make the phone's sensor think it's constantly pressed against my ear, thus not allowing me to use the keypad during calls, switch apps during calls, and on incoming calls, not even hang up.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to disable the automatic screen shutoff so I can get around this. I am using CyanogenMod 10.2 on a rooted Sprint galaxy s4, but have had the same problem with the derrick Samsung os.
Thank you, and if I'm posting this in the wrong place, apologies and please let me know where it belongs!

The screen off during calls is controlled by 1 of the top sensors, not by screen touch...Maybe there is damage to or on the surface area above the sensor...

I know you're on CM but here's how it's done in stock, you can toggle the "Turn off screen during calls" when you bring up the dial pad and hit menu then call settings.
Unselecting that item keeps the screen on as it won't use the proximity settings (like when you put it to your ear) to turn off the screen...which is essentially what you've already described that you think is occurring with the crack in your screen...
hope that helps.

Never noticed that, thanks! I wasn't able to find something similar in my OS. I love CM, but I might have to switch back to stock for this.
Btw I also noticed it's accessible through settings > my device > call in stock.
Anyhow, instead of moving from CM, have you tried something like this app to turn off the sensor in calls https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.itsme4ucz.screenoff
or tried to use the Tasker app to toggle it off? might be worth a shot.
EDIT:
There was a mod for this, so you're likely to find something around that will coincide with what your running on yours - see this: http://www.modaco.com/topic/362514-mod-disable-proximity-sensor-cm101-based-roms-only/
also have you seen this thread on issues with this in CM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2409698 ?
AND the other option is to try blowing air in might help, just in case it isn't related to your screen crack....see also: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...edition/311795-s4-proximity-sensor-issue.html
(Proximaty sensor repairs/reset ) app in Google play fix the problem
trying to help a guy i work with, he has a verizon galaxy s5, i think he turned off the prox sensor because the screen now will not turn off when he takes a call and puts it up next to his ear, I looked though all the settings and didn;t see the option to turn it on or off in there like i have on my note 3. Does anyone have an idea where samsung hide that option in the settings, any help would be appreciated
thanks

I guess I thought this was normal behavior. This is news to me. Every other phone I've owned, when you put the phone up to your ear it turns off likely to conserve battery, and so the phone doesn't get too hot.
That is the normal behavior to turn off screen but I know there's a setting to make it so it'll stay on. At least there is on my note 3 and other phones I have had in the past. I just can't find it on his phone with the new layout of settings they did for the s5
