[Q] Titanium baclup and wrong restore - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm coming from an HTC One S.
I make a complete Titanium Backup of all of my apps and now I placed the backup folder on my new phone.
I make the restore of complete app (app + data) but if I reinstall a new version of the same apk I receive the message that there all already a version of this app but with a different signature.
Also if I use a restored app I can't find the old data (example the record of a game).
What I have done?
I have a I9505 italian omn with last FW (found on sam)
Thanks at all.

[Q] How do I backup from JJ and install Swedish Spring?

I have the latest version of JJ installed on the phone, but want to upgrade to Swedish Spring. I've downloaded Titanium Backup (free version).
Is it simply a matter of selecting the apps I want to save data for? Most important are numbers and SMS - what do need to look for in the app list? I understand that everything will be saved on the SD card.
When the backup is done I guess I simply copy across the fw for Swedish Spring to the SD card root, reboot, enter xrecovery and install. Then I root etc, but I don't have to reinstall xrecovery and Busybox again right?
Finally, I reinstall Titanium and restore - do I need to download the app off Market first, or will Titanium reinstall that as well?
Many thanks!
Using a Gmail account all contacts will be held on your account and when flash they get synced
SMSBackup+ on the market is best solution for sms as has auto backup to Gmail
Re: Software backup via Titanium
Don't reapply system/settings backups with Titanium on different ROMs as will cause issues.
Hope that helps.

Question on back up before flashing new firmware

hi,
I on KF2 stock firmware now and I want o flash KG5 which i suppose is latest.
I learnt that Google does not store the apps which i had installed previously. Every time I flash (wipe) I have to install the apps from beginning and the My apps in Market is always empty.
I have / had switched on the sync but never worked for me
I think I can take a backup using Titanium backup and restore it
Question is:
1. I have 3G watchdog installed and it has stored the bandwidth consumed. Is it possible to backup/restore the data ? if so how?
2. IS it somehow possible to make Google remember my apps installed?
Thanks

When you first set up the phone, there will be a question on whether you want google to back up your apps and data (contacts, etc). However, it only applies to apps installed via market, and not for those installed via backup. I think it's not related to sync, but with backup.
Google only backup your apps, but not the data related to them. Just copy the folder with the info and paste in the same directory after the backup. It should work latter with no problem.

[Q] Help needed with backup?!

I am new to nexus 4 but not new to android .. with all my phones i experiment with different roms but everytime i change my rom i tack backup of all softwares and data manually and restore it againapp by app(very tedious process).. is there any way or software to do all the backup(call logs, sms, app+data ) and restore it automatically after changing the rom ...
please help
Yes there is. Titanium Backup allows you to back up to SD or cloud. You can backup all apks and data and restore in one go. It's not tedious but takes a little while... obviously.
The pro version of titanium backup allows one touch batch restores.

How to restore all your data after flashing new ROM

Hi,
over the past years I have been flashing more than 50 different ROMs on my S2 so I wanted to share with everyone how I restore my favourite config and data every single time.
I will list all the different items that are important for me to restore. If you want to add others that matter for you please do.
I am NOT going to explain how to flash a new ROM. There are dozens of threads about that already.
BEFORE flashing the new ROM here is what I do:
1) Apps:
Backup all user apps + data with Titanium Backup and save them to external SD card.
2) SMS:
Backup all SMS + Call Log to my Gmail Account with any backup/restore SMS app
3) Calendar and Contacts:
My calendar events are always created on my google or exchange account so I just have to sync, same for contacts.
They are auto restored when logging in to Google account on the newly flashed ROM.
4) Launcher:
I prefer Nova Launcher so it's easy to make a backup of my favourite launcher config.
After this is done (~10 mins of work) you can save your new ROM file to SD card and flash it in recovery mode.
When entering the new ROM (fully wiped!) you can restore everything in the following order:
1) Calendar and Contacts will be auto restored once you are logged in to your Gmail account
2) Install Titanium and restore Apps (some apps don't work when restored so you have to fresh install them, most of them work fine)
3) After apps you restore backed up Nova config
4) Restore SMS and Call log (This can be done at any moment)
The whole process (backup, flash and restore) takes about half an hour maximum.
If someone can improve/approve this method please share!
PS: My question to everyone: Is there a way/app to save/restore the android settings between ROMs?
Try making a CWM backup and restore using Nandroid Manager app
Well that will just restore my backed up ROM right?
The above guide is for installing a new ROM after full wipe and recovering your personal data and apps in that new ROM...

The first step i don`t thing is gonna work if your gonna change from 4.1.2 to 4.2 or 4.3. I guess you have to do some settings in Titanium.
if you dont have important data on the apps you can go to installed app on google play and install them, and if you backed it thru google backup turn on the wifi and it will download them automaticly
quiet imekesm
Backupping apps with TB is kinda useless since Google synchronizes apps from your last installation. Also restoring data could be harmful for your device stability if it runs different android versions. Maybe you should write in OP
I always stay on 4.1.2 because it serves me best so the TB method works perfectly. I also feel like TB does a better job then Google backup

you can also try go backup pro for apks and data ...and my backup pro for phone setting
Google backup restores app data too?

Thanks
Thanks for this. Its been really useful for me
But doing these backups, then changing rom there is the risk of creating compatibility problems?
Only compatibility risk is if you're going to another Android version from what you had before (4.1.2 to 4.2.2 for example). Still most of the apps will work fine...
If an app fc's reinstall it from
scratch, still better then the need to reinstall all of them...

I have found that Titanium Backup works quite well for me. I use the pro versions and haven't had problems restoring apps and even settings after flushing new ROM.

Easiest way to restore apps and associated data

Hi folks
A galaxy s4 user here. I have a rooted device and play around with many Roms but am finding my way of installing a new ROM and then restoring my data to be long winded and tedious and am looking for a better way.
Currently I run nightly backups using titanium backup and online nandroid backup.
I am finding though when I restore apps and data using nandroid backup then it all cases its only restoring the app and not the data.
If I use titanium backup I can restore both app and data but the process of restoring my missing items using the batch feature is still messy.
What I want to do is install a new ROM from scratch, connect to google and then use google to restore the apps (as it can only do that anyway) this way I know I am running latest version of app and then use some other restore utility to identify all the users app I have installed and identify the respective data to be resorted.
Is there an app out there that intelligently talks with play store and is able to restore just the data?
Appreciate any help on this. MODs if there is a better forum to put this in my apologises but feel free to move it.
Thanks [emoji5]
