[q] usm mass storage! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Some one find a work around to enable USB Mass storage mode. I don't care if I can only access the external SD card. The workaround for the S3 does not work on the S4.
You may ask why I NEEd to have this. Simple. The head unit in my car works off of UMS. It won't recognize an MTP connection.
Utter bull**** that a top of the line smart phone be crippled by a limited file transfer protocol. Never would have bought it knowing this. And yes I know it is all android devices since ICS.
Phone is rooted with a TWRP recovery.

This just got updated to support the S4. You can thank the developer for this. He's a life saver!

I wasn't aware of this. Mass storage doesn't work on a stock S4?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2

Not by default as the code was removed from Android when Google did away with SD cards. So the option has to be added by the OEM
W.T Nexus 4

Do you need to be on stock to use this app?

I was wondering if you had to be stock while using this, like no aosp or anything.

You have to install the 'Android File Transfer' android.com/filetransfer
that works! thanks. too bad double twist wont work
Does anyone know if filetransfer is going to be the method going forward, or will we get a way to mount the internal storage? Getting music and video on the device using a mounted drive makes everything more convenient.
After thinking about it it for a few minutes, I potentially understand why it doesn't work. If we are able to mount the drive, then the OS wouldn't have access to it. We really need the sd card support

Doubletwist works fine for me. That's how I transferred my music.
I should say doubletwist on Mac doesn't work. And that's where my music library is.

[Q] Switch between media and mass?

Hi all. I can't find the usb settings to pick either mass storage or media transfer? Am I missing something here. All other android phones I have had, I would just go to settings - usb settings - then choose what I wanted. Don't have that option on this phone. I have the verizon play. Thanks for any help
Go settings -> Sony Ericsson. It's in there
Yeah, I don't have that option either. No sony ericcson under settings.
verizon version of the play can only do mass storage. plus facebook does not work right. so verizon did tinker with the op system

Why would they do something ridiculous like that? If memory serves, PC Companion can only issue updates when you are in Media Transfer Mode. Disabling it blocks one avenue through which you can get updates.
you cant debrand a cdma handset... atleast until you can get root. and verizon only wants you to get there update OTA no download for us...
well verizon in there quest to screw the consumer took the media transfer out so you will have to use there media transfer tool(STUPID as we cant update) I can see me returning this phone if they dont do something to allow updates///

You can still update via OTA and I believe SEUS still allows updates in mass storage mode.

There is always a way around regardless plus what's to stop you from flashing a generic fw?

Yes but I would still need a cdma radio file. No way at this point to get one

[q] cloud storage problems.

Hey guys.
I un boxed my nexus 4 like a month ago. THIS TRULY IS A POWERHOUSE.
Well, to be straight to the problem. I just heard that apps installed on my nexus 4 can be stored into a cloud storage.
But I cant find where to do that, & which Cloud is the best for that.
A simple 'HOW-TO' would be great.
THANKS!
This is probably the thing you're referring to.
http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/04/go...ely-store-configuration-files-and-other-data/
It's not the app that gets installed in the cloud. It's the app data. And it's not something you have to manually enable. It depends on whether or not the app developer supports it.

But will it or will it not effect the running and execution of that particular app?
And How to check that which apps data can be stored in there. And if yes, then how to transfer those files? SIMPLE UPLOAD?
BY THE WAY, THANKS ALOT FOR YOUR REPLY.

Excellent job! What did you use to make the app, if I may ask? Eclipse?

Any chance you could add a second function, for
Code:
adb shell start adbd
Or maybe even one for
Code:
adb reboot recovery

Well, it looks awesome, but only runs once? I stopped adb, and the app disappeared from the app drawer... app manager says it's still there, but I went to clear data, and an error popped up saying that the application no longer exists. Any ideas?
EDIT: Disregard, I reinstalled and now it works fine! Must have been a root issue, because it only did it the very first time, before it was granted root. Every time after, it was just fine. Thank you!!!
Also, one question. Can we use this in Roms for the device, assuming we give you proper credit? We've been waiting on something like this for a long time, my friend.
I installed on my note 2 looks solid gotta try on actv later

It will be an honour
Forgot to report back. The application works perfectly with my Actv. The previous version didn't launch on my actv at first. However this new version works fantastic. Thanks again, I'm very greatful.
This is a brilliant little app, would it be possible to add Wifi ADB and Normal(USB) ADB to make it the complete solution? I use GScript right now for these tasks, having it in the ADB manager would be perfect

well darn u beat me to it lol i was just in the middle of making one, guess ill just throw mine away since yours seems to work better =S lol
So does this enable host mode or would this require hardware the ACTV doesn't have? Awesome work regardless.
Auto start adb manager?
Is there an adb command to set my Motoactv to automatically start with the device? I'm rooted, using the stock interface, and just want it to easily go back to USB mode by default. Thanks.

Buying Essential. Related non-Essential Question

Can anyone suggest an app that will allow me to copy my SD data from my old phone onto the Essential over the air? I thought Google's File Go would work, but it seems to restrict which files I can transfer directly, phone to phone. i need access to files beyond the 6 categories File Go offers. I'd like to stay away from any kind of wiring or PC use. Thanks.
Dropbox seems to be a solution. I still would appreciate additional input. Thanks.

You can take an ADB backup... Which should copy everything on device to computer...
If you are rooted... You can do it via wireless ADB

I'm using an app called HandShaker...work fine for me...
X-plore file explorer will transfer over wifi sharing.
You might want to check into an app called superbeam. It uses wifi to transfer as well and you can use it afterward to transfer files from your PC to your phone and from your phone to PC.
