For those (like me) who want to use "Linda" to tell us other things (like texts, missed calls, etc) this is where he got it from.
http://cepstral.com/demos/
Select "Linda" for the voice and "Old Robot" for effect.
Thanks I was totally just looking for this!
Cool stuff,
How can we get this implement in our vibrants to sepak up texts, missed calls, etc ?
Thank you.
Yea that would be pretty cool

Create your file and put it on your SD card media/audio/notifications
Then open the messaging app go to settings, notification settings, select ringtone
For Handcent or similar do the same thing.
That's all
Will try when I get home,
Thank you very much.

Great find
This great !!
Thank you ...I been looking for something like this ..
I have a few idea for it ...
This works great!!!! You have to make sure when you preview the voice you hear exactly what you typed. If you hear the ad for you to purchase the program just replay the voice until you only hear what you typed. Then export to desktop. I downloaded a free wav to mp3 converter to convert the wavs to mp3 and ogg.
I used ringdroid to save the mp3's to the proper folders on the phone. My new notifications are:
Gmail "Jimmy, you have mail"
Hotmail "Jimmy, you have hot mail"
Message/sms "Jimmy, you have a message"
Voicemail "Jimmy, you have a voicemail"
Shutdown "Good bye Jimmy, Shut down will begin in five, four, three, two, one, shut down process is complete. Have a nice day"
Here is the link to the free converter. Works very well.
http://download.cnet.com/windows/3055-2140_4-10442362.html?tag=pdl-redir
If you are creating a long shutdown message you can trick the program if you do not use periods. Instead, use a comma so the program will not insert an add in between.
Here is an example of a shutdown sound I made.
http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/76168/Shutdown space
Here is the .ogg file if anyone wants it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=68AQMREX
Sounds sweet, ill use it.

First you will need to download the wav to mp3 converted that I posted in my reply above. After you convert it to a .mp3 you can name it whatever you like. Put the new ringtone on the root of your phone. You can make a new folder called "ringtones" if you like. Now your phone will be able to use that new sound as a notification sound or a ringtone.
Bootup sound is PowerOn.wav in system/etc shutdown is shutdown.ogg in the system/media/audio/ui

Over the years I've grown quite fond of the News and Weather app. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not come pre-installed on the Nexus 7 so I figured I would just move it from my Galaxy Nexus to my Nexus 7. Sadly, I cannot seem to get it to work...
What I did:
Copied GenieWidget.apk from my Galaxy Nexus
Moved GenieWidget.apk to my Nexus 7's /system/app directory
Modified the permissions of the .apk to 644
Rebooted
Any ideas?
grab a new apk online
it's working on my nexus 7
and i remember simply opening the apk, not having to put it in system and edit, etc
The new apk? I assumed the apk on my JB Galaxy nexus was the newest. You see, I would really prefer to install the .apk from my phone if at all possible as it hasn't been out of my sight.
Though, if could give me a link to the apk you're referring to I would appreciate it.
On a similar note, I seem to be having the same problem with both BrowserGoogle.apk and CameraGoogle.apk.
Any other ideas...?

Seems like the easy way out. I was really hoping to get the method in the op working properly as it may be useful for other applications (see my previous post).

Hi, I've attached an ICS version that has the settings/menu button in the bottom right corner that allows you to adjust the options.
It works fine on the Nexus 7.

Guys i know this might sound dumb but can someone please tell me how do you integrate photos in the system of the phone?
As in i have a few images of another phone which i want to feed it in the phone itself (SO THAT IT DOES NOT APPEAR IN GALARY)
Like the default phone wallpapers. (Where you set a wallpaper from WALLPAPERS and not GALLERY)
And also same with the apps (Such as i want a dictionary to be in the phone even after formatting, i have the apk file but)
Hope you understand what i mean.
Thanks

You can put them anywhere. As long as you make a .nomedia folder in the folder you store them they won't be in the gallery.

No sorry. The no media thing is just to prevent it from being in the gallery. I don't know what the default location is but the previous poster stated it's in the system apk. You would havo to repack that with your own wallpapers to make it work I guess.

Hi,
All I was curious what is the easiest way to add old sounds (ringtones and notifications) from older android OS's to the 6P?
I don't really like the new sounds and I wanted to bulk a bunch of sounds into the system from my old phones ROM.
Thanks J

I have been using a app called MP3 Cutter/Ringtone Maker. It lets you set MP3 files as ringtones or notification. Then they show up available in the OS.
You can use rocket player to add your ringtone. I'm not sure of other players offer that function but I know rocket player will work.

Are you rooted? Someone posted a zip of ringtones and notifications. I can find the link or post the zip if need be.
I'm using Rings Extended for years now. Small, reliable and audio files can be stored wherever you want.
Just copy your ringtones with any file manager into the "Ringtones" folder in the internal storage.
Same as notifications, just copy them to "Notifications" into your internal storage.
You can do it also with a PC.

Rocket player is a free app and will work for what you need. Long press on the song select ringtone.
I put in rocket player , the app says it cost me money either by credit card or pay pal,
Have I got the right app???

It's not the phones fault, it's the OS not recognizing it as a ringtone. Address it from that point and you might find a solution.
