Hey Guys,
I am sorry for opening this, i know there are similar threads but not able to find those.
I am in a confusion.. below are the offers for the two phones..
Galaxy S2 (Rs. 29500/- around 600$)
Galaxy Nexus (Rs. 30500/- around 620$)
just not able to decide which one to buy, both have their own Pros and Cons..
S2 has better camera, external storage option and better Processor.
GNex has better Screen, AOSP and fast updates.
Pls help me in deciding which one to buy.
Thanks
Well do you listen to music and if you do that, do you like good sound quality?

have an ipod for Music.. but off course will prefer good sound quality on cell phones when i am paying so much
Personally, Nexus all day for me. ICS is by far the best iteration of android and you'll get the real deal with the nexus, not some skinned, bloated version. Also, better screen for web browsing, and apparently better sound quality for music.
The SGS2 was and still is a fantastic phone, but the game has been moved on IMO.
If I should have invested another 20$ before I would have a better screen and updated software
Gnex.

there's a huge difference in quadrant scores, and in higher end gaming =S there are currently games only available through samsung apps on the SGS2 because it has a superior GPU as of right now
The Gnex unfortunately got shafted with the camera and processing hardware... everything else is pretty good.
..Galaxy S II is better in all ways and prettyer ...nexus is only better because google orginal android look and OS updates....only you can decide!!!

Nexus is not launched in India, but the dealer is telling me he will take care of the warranty.
Screen nicer on Galaxy Nexus but I don't think I could live with 16GB storage. Very happy with my SGS2 with 16+32GB
I got a SGS2 and its a great phone.
But i have to say, if you are interested in development, go for the Galaxy Nexus.

You need to think about practicality. If you use your phone a lot searching the web and watching videos, then the GalNex is the best choice (maybe you could consider the Note). Also software wise the GalNex is the winner too because it will most likely have a longer period when it will recieve updates. Also is better for development.,On the other hand if you want a power-house, take photos and movies with your phone daily and play games with more "advanced" graphics smoother you should consider the S2 (or again, the Note). In the end they are both great handsets. It onlymatters how practically you find them using on day by day schedule.
I will try to sell my SGS2 to get a Nexus. Samsung is starting to annoy me with their dev "support" and I would like a Nexus device. I'm personally changing because of dev and rom support and of course the screen looks great. As for 16gb, I've been using a 16gb iPhone for 3 years and just now it's starting to be just slightly small but I can easily manage.

How many switch from a gs3 ? Are you all still happy ? Ive mess with my cousins nexus 4 and I did a few test on the camera and honestly ,to me it looked like it took better pics , I enjoy taking pics so I'm really thinking of getting one, but I'm still not sure so I'm trying to get different opinions of people who made the switch, , thanks for the feedback

I had the S3 on Verizon and T-Mobile and I an very pleased with my decision to switch to the N4. The S3 had a few cool features like flipping the phone over to silence it by to me nothing beats vanilla Android. What ever the S3 had I can probably get an app or widget or ROM to to on the N4. And I'm on stock 4.2.2. The carrier S3 won't have it for a while. The fact that my N4 cane out the box unlocked AND only cost me $350 + shipping and tax was a no brainer for me.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I too came from a T-Mobile GS3 and I've got to say that I do not regret the switch at all. This phone has longevity , in terms of Android updates, compared to the GS3. Yeah the screen is smaller but honestly HD videos look deeper and more to real life than they did on the GS3. And the on-screen buttons don't bother me as much as I thought they would. If you have a wallpaper with a black bottom, they'll blend right in! And if you are worried about the fixed storage there are programs that'll make the Nexus 4 an external media device so you can drag, drop, copy, and paste. You'll like the phone I promise.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yea , that's almost the only thing trying to hold me back is the storage, but I know eventually external storage wont be a option in the future.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
external storage isnt really an issue for me but i have to say I switched from a tmobile white S3 and I love the nexus 4 WAYYYYY better. I was never crazy about the s3, even now the s4, the whole bubbly plasticky design and weird colorful gingerbread looking theme.. It's alright and I found it weird that I wanted to sell it because it did everything I wanted to and had a great screen but it had no "pull". The nexus 4 however, the minute I opened that box, i was like wow, this look and feels better than all the 1080p youtube review videos i watched. It's so much nicer, sleeker, feels better in the hands.
I know the s3 is a popular phone so it has good dev or community but think the nexus 4 has more and with the Paranoid Android and pie controls, it has the same real estate and usability screen size as the s3. The s3's colors are brighter and has a little bit better outdoor visibility but the nexus 4 has much better call quality and what seems like faster gps lock on. Plus it has 2 gb of ram and i think with the dev community has a lot more potential, if you can go without the extra storage.
I switched fro note 2.. I do miss the size of screen and spen a bit, but all other is amazing on N4

Unless there is something about the GS3 that you really dislike then it is not much of an upgrade and isn't worth buying it as an upgrade. Might aswell wait for the next nexus phone. Just slap some CM10.1 or AOSPA on the GS3

+1 to this. While I prefer the N4 to the GS3 there's really very little difference and it's not enough of an upgrade to be worth buying. You won't notice any significant difference in speed or performance between a GS3 with CM10.1 and a N4 running stock, and I'm pretty sure the camera on the N4 is worse than the GS3's.
Thanks to everyone that has taken the Time to reply , it's not that I dislike the s3, but what I do hate is the really slow updates , so I doubt the S3 will get klp,, and like I said I take lots of pics and to me , from few pics I took , the ones from the N4 looked to had better color , on the s3 they looked wash out compare to the N4,,,, this where indoor pics btw . Decisions, decisions, ,,,,,,,,,.....:banghead:

Last few phones I had, Galaxy Nexus, HTC international One X, Galaxy Note 2, now the Nexus 4.
Nexus all the way. Nothing beats the simple and minimalist design of a Nexus. Nothing flashy or fancy, just a cool black slab of a phone, with a light OS.
I have owned a ton of phones over the years, every Nexus phone too, and lots of phones in between each Nexus. But I kept each Nexus the longest. Just love the minimal design and understated look of the phone.

I did since this phone came out and I do not regret.
i came from a GS3 and the only thing i miss is the superb camera quality of the S3. The Nexus 4 is not on par with the S3 in this regard but destroys the S3 at every other thing

Got mine 2 days ago, after 2 years with Samsung (s2 + s3)
Gotta say, I love the nexus so far, but the battery life and camera quality really is a downgrade from the s3...but we knew that, and I thought it would be a price worth paying for a true Google experience....only time will tell if I am right or not, but I'm going to enjoy the speed and smoothness for a while before making my final decision on which device to sell.
Quick question...are any of you guys experiencing weird battery behaviour? Mine sometimes drops 20% after a reboot, but then goes back up. Cheers all
Again, thanks to all the replies,
I went ahead and order it,
I wasn't really looking for a big "upgrade " but also i dont want to take a "step back", so i wanted to know if it was worth the switch, , I really hope the camera is not to bad, I know a lot of people saying that its a downgrade from a gs3,,, but the pictures I took indoors , to me they look really good, , Im just tired of spending money buying new phones because the carriers/ manufacturers don't update them, so from I read, Google supports at least 2 yrs on nexus phones so I should be keeping this one for at least 1yr or even 2yrs ,, thanks again to everyone

The title says it all. I am confused between Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3. Now, I am coming from a Note II. I don't really like the Note II. Its way too big for me -.-
So I gave it to my dad.
Now, let me make a few things clear. No matter if its a nexus or anything else, I am going to root it and install a custom rom as soon as I purchase it. So, the question of running the latest version of android doesnt come up. I want suggestions based on your overall device experience.

N4 is way better in performance than S3. Even S3 users have moved on from S3 to N4, check other thread with similar title.
As you said you will be rooting it, so u have ample of ROM's to try. 2gigs of RAM and 1.5 GHz makes it a BEAST and stand out off all. though the camera is not as good as S3 to admit. Rest its your call. Nexus 4 anytime the best .
I'm with the n4 now and am more than pleased.
However if removeable storage and battery are your thing then the s3 is the way to go.
I personally prefer the development community that the n4 has along with the plethora of ROM and kernel choices. Plus with online cloud storage, who needs a micro SD these days.

I say go with the Galaxy SIII. Much cheaper to replace parts when broken and way easier. More battery life than the Nexus. You get the added benefit of the phone being popular and will have more access to premium cases and accessories that the Nexus 4 may never see. I love my Nexus 4, but if you already have software taken care of, go for the GSIII.

Okay. I actually need a lot of storage. I have a large music collection and I keep docs and other imp stuff on my phone just in case I need them urgently. Assume that I purchase the S3. Will the 750MB ram and crappy exynos source codes lead to problems in future?
If yes, then I'll compromise with the storage thing and purchase the Nexus 4. I can do away with the storage problems by purchasing a 64GB pendrive.
About the camera, I don't really use my phone to take pictures. Took around 3-4 pictures in the last 7 months using my NoteII. I have a camera for taking pictures.
I have n4 and my girlfriend s3,and I don't know why is considered that s3 has much better camera. Maybe it's not the camera, rather the amoled screen on s3 which gives that over saturated surreal look. I took the same photo with n4 and s3 and transferred to laptop and there wasn't almost any difference between them.

The nexus 4 doesn't support USB OTG so the pendrive won't help
If storage is an absolute need then I think you should go for the s3.
If the lack of ram bugs you, take a look at the s3 lte (same exynos quad, 2 gigs of ram)
But it definitely won't match the nexus 4's performance no matter what. Its gonna be a lot less smooth. If you can live with your note II for a few more months you should do that and buy the new nexus when it comes out this fall.....
EDIT: Read the first post. Oops, my bad about the note II. It all comes down to storage then. If you really need a lot of it, buy the s3 lte(or the us s3, that's good too). Otherwise, nexus 4 all the way. Cheers

How much space does your files need. I was worried about space but lets be honest with all the cloud features out there like BOx giving you 50 gigs when you sign up you can put your stuff anywhere. I have 0 issues playing my 1000 or so songs from a streaming Google Music. I hear ya storage was an issue for me but you learn to adapt....
Dude. Use the cloud!
There are several services out there, I personally use drop box and copy.
On another note.... I have over 3k songs uploaded to play music through music manager on my desktop and stream them bad boys through the play music app.
The future is here.

I kind of think the mentions here in this thread (N4 vs HTC OneX+) kind of applies and makes the same argument, especially as I even bought up the S3 in comparison in that thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086175
Mainly with the S3, are these important to you?
*) replaceable/extendable battery
*) Micro-SD card slot
If so then S3 would be for you, since can't seem to decide on everything else

I use dropbox and such too, though I normally won't rely on it for very large files to my phone basically. There's OwnCloud if you don't mind setting that up (just kind of a pain if you're expecting it to stream).
Far as movies and audio, etc on my local wifi or wifi in general, that's what stuff like Google Play Music, Qloud Media, or Plex is for.
Course if the Nexus4 supported USB-OTG like my Nexus 7 does (well it 'sorta' does, but it's hardware limitation is that it needs extra juice via an external power source), then I'd just pop on a micro-SD card or thumbdrive if for some reason I really needed local connected storage. (There's also AirDroid if you're just trying to transfer).
PS: I love dropbox, I use a Eye-Fi SD card, which can use WAP off my phone to save photos I take to my computer at home, at home I have it saving to my dropbox folder, so I can always pull up the photos via dropbox on my phone if I wish to share from there rather than having to re-configure the card to save straight to my phone but then still having to end up saving it to the desktop later.
I know you tj bro... U used to have sga right? I loved your stocklite rom man. Exactly one month ago i was in same situation as you. I was going insane on which mobile to buy s3 or n4. Finally i bought n4 because of its dev support on xda.
Major Pros of n4 :
RAM 2 gb
Awesomest support of ROMs.
Future proof as compared to s3
Build quality is good as compared to s3
Major Cons of n4 :
Delayed push notification in whatsapp etc though it will hopefully fixed in next Google's next update.(though you can fix it having a simple hack)

It's most likely my ignorance of not having used WhatsApp myself, but if it's an app, why would the push notifications be delayed on an N4 but not on an S3? Especially if you're using custom roms anyways?

Not sure I'd put that in a "con" list if you don't know why or if it's even related to the hardware as opposed to all OSes when the same could happen on the S3 side depending on the software, apps, region, configuration. etc.
PS: Also if it's not responding to ping while on wifi especially with specific wifi spots, you might have to configure a DNS server manually (like google's 8.8.8.8, as the phone may have picked up a configuration that's not resolving certain domains correctly etc).

I want to buy a new phone , my droid 3 is too outdated but is a damn good phone .
I really cant decide between s2 and nexus 4 .
I like the specs on the nexus 4 , 2 gb ram , procesor ( but i really do not need them that high ) , i hate that i can not pull out the battery , that really sucks and also that is very fragile . I also heard that the battery sucks big way ( in different forums ) . I will just surf , text a lot , not gaming much , but it will pass through a day ?
On the other hand i like the s2 , 1 gb ram , 1.2 dual core , removable battery , micro sd . And i heard that it really has one of the best batteries out there . But the s2 will not get key lime pie ( im sure that it will be a rom for that so no problem there )
I would really chose the nexus 4 just for key lime pie but i just need a damn good battery to make sure to go through one day of medium usage .

Nexus for sure... Going top buy it when I come home from my holiday s2 ain't that special ;D

Without a doubt the Nexus 4. With how many ways there is to charge a phone, a non removable battery isn't a big deal these days. If it truly is dead and out of warrenty, it can be removed and replaced. I consistently hit 4.5hrs screen on time browsing the web and using small simple apps like weatherbug and flipboard. mind you, this is on wifi and i always have excellent signal. Using Franco M3 and the latest Carbon nightly. The Nexus 4 will run circles around the SII and will also have a much longer life before it truly becomes sluggish and outdated. I think it would be a much more sound investment. If you are extremely clumsy and constantly drop your phones on tile and concrete, then it might not be a good idea. Otherwise, theres no competition.
I totally agree... Nexus is much better in many ways... I think you'll feel more comfortable with the n4 .. But hey that's just my opinion .. If you want the s2 and personally think it's a better device... Roll with it

Fine. I will go for the nexus 4 then, the 16 gb. And i'll buy I bumper or something, I am not clumsy but also not a risky person. I really do not use my phone a lot, just 2,5 hrs screen and no 3g , like never, so I think it would stand for a day. Changing the kernel I think it will be a big deal for me atm.
You guys think it will get Key Lime Pie ( I mean it is a google phone and the specs kick ass ) ?
And does those 3 virtual buttons get in your way sometimes? I mean exiting games by mistake or whatever.
I heard that on 4.1.2 the battery sucks but in 4.2.2 the battery life gets improved, nvm, I will surely root it. Lol

You might want to read up a bit on Nexus devices man. It will definitely get KLP since it's a Nexus, you'll be officially supported by Google for a pretty long time (especially so on the N4 given its RAM + SoC). You can't use 4.1.2 on the Nexus 4 so I don't know what you mean about the battery sucking on 4.1.2 but I can easily get 2.5 hours of screen on time without charging purely by lowering brightness. As for the softkeys you can reduce their size or remove them completely using pretty much any custom ROM (and I think some apps/a build.prop tweak can remove them on stock rooted) so you shouldn't worry about that. There's absolutely no comparison here, the N4 just wins outright unless you absolutely need more than 16GB of storage.

I totally agree
sent from my .... still waiting for my nexus..
My friend has an S2 and its sooo laggy. S3 is already too laggy for my taste. And specs do matter. Day to day usage, I cannot image living without 2gb of ram. Idling already uses almost 800mb of ram.
If not nexus..S4 or HTC one.. It's between those 3, and the price on n4 is really great

Yesterday I bought a N4 coming from a SII with amazing Neat rom which gives a huge boost to SII. But I can definetely say N4 gives a waaaay better experience. And it is so cheap compared to others smartphone
The S3 and the Nexus 4 is about the same size. Length and width. The S4 is just a bit bigger. I know from the specs and I did a side by side comparison using my friend's phones.

Shall i just get a custom rom for the s2 and buy it ? or the nexus 4 ?

I've had both of these devices.. First, build quality:
The galaxy s2 is a tank, but it DOES feel cheap.
The nexus 4 is very beautiful and very premium. I've
L personally dropped mine many times onto concrete and other hard surfaces and it's recovered without a scratch.
Battery life:
I had the galaxy S2, Wifi only, underclocked to 800mhz, screen so dim you could only see it indoors, I usually hit 4hrs screen on time.
Nexus 4, wifi only, 1.1ghz underclocked, 50% brightness (bright enough to see on a sunny day), 5/6 hrs screen on time.
Get a nexus 4, use Box, Google music (micro sd alternative), get a custom ROM and AKFAUX kernel. You seriously won't regret it. You don't need a removable battery, because when you get off stock, this phone becomes an eco-warrior!

I'll stick with my note 4
Im confused.. WHICH loyal fans were they listening to??? Note 4 > Note 5
It looks terrific to me, although I was hoping it would have a 7422 instead of a 7420. I never upgrade right away, though. I always wait until the price comes down. By that time, we'll know if it turned out to be a error in judgement on design or a lemon of a phone.

Yeah agreed it looks nice but that's about it. It's more of a downgrade to me.
However.... I will buy one and if I don't like it I will go back to the note 4.

I was pretty much following it for kicks and giggles, just to keep track. I'm only a year into my Note4, which means I won't upgrade till Note 6ish anyway.
Put it in a case and it becomes a sub par Note 4
Note 4 all the way. I'll wait for something better.
If for any reason I would want to get the note 5, it would be because of the wireless charge fast charging. But it looks like sprint might be dropping spark, only LTE?

Same screen resolution, smaller battery with no Micro SD. I don't understand the direction Samsung is headed. Every phone I have ever had people complain about battery life. What's the solution with a internal battery? Constantly tethered to the wall or a huge ridiculous case with an extra external power source built in? Fail Sammy, fail.
I dont understand so many threads about this note 5 in a note 4 forum. I mean, personally im waiting for the new nexus device, im not going to make a thread in the note 4 forum tho.
Should probably take it to the note 5 forum instead.
Just my 2 cents.
It's one of the best ? out there

The screen off memo feature would be nice to see ported. Not a ton makes me want note 5 over note 4...

Yep that's pretty neat for sure.
There are a lot of things I like about the Note 5, and you CAN get a 128 GB model for Sprint, contrary to what many websites are saying. But I'm still not going to upgrade. Maybe when the prices drop, but I'll probably wait to see what the Note 6 is like. I never swap my battery and I don't care about missing the microSD card. I'd rather have the UFS 2.0 storage, so those things aren't holding me back. I'm just happy with my Note 4.
Well.. I like doing a battery pull when things get iffy. As far as having an SD card slot or not is not really a big deal to me. I have a Samsung 32g SD card now that's not even 1/3 full. Between Sirius /XM and Pandora I don't download a lot of music. I use my SD card for pictures and my necessary rooting/modding files. And with having a "cloud" to store stuff and thumb drives and USB cables the storage will still be endless. As with all other tech.. It evolves. My 2 cents..

Note followers never complained about built quality because our phones stay in cases. Galaxy followers wanted a android iphone so samsung gave it to them . But why didn't they just have a regular version with sd and removable battery and one with a higher built quality and they could have ditched the s6 plus idea until the s7 plus . That would of worked 4 months ago. Owell I'll get the s6 plus and if i don't like it wife might have a new phone. Note 5 don't do nothing for me atleast the s6plus bring something different. I'll see what apple do before i dive in they might surprise me but every year a disappointment.
