Hello everyone,
As you know there are different versions of JB ROM, from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2, but which is the most stable/bug free?
I'm making that question because I'm on 4.0.4 and my system is going to make heavy for many reasons, so I want to upgrade to JB if possible.
I never tried carefully any JB ROM therefore I can't take a judgment, but from comments and changelogs 4.1.2 seems the most stable JB ROM right now.
I always flashed and tested different ROMs everyday, but now I'm tired to flash all the time and I want a daily use one.
What are the common bugs that I've to expect from a JB ROM? And, what's your opinion about the topic?
NOTE: To keep clear and useful this thread don't give just general considerations
but indicate the differences from other ROMs that you tested so we can have an idea of your conception of benefits* and specify:
ROM Thread
Boot Loader
Type of installation (NAND, NativeSD, DataOnEXT)
* If you say your car is powerful, it doesn't mean anything, but if you say your car is more powerful than Fiat 500, then we can understand your meaning of Power
You shouldn't ask people to compare roms, it is a do-it-yourself kind of thing. Everyone has different experiences with the same rom. It is always about tastes.
And I think is against the rules here. Not sure, wont search. Lol.

I'm just asking which version of JB is the most stable. I want to understand if there are any differences or if all the JB are almost the same

That is what happens when you ask what is the 'best, most stable, fastest' rom.
If you want to know the difference, there is an app for that! I mean .. there is .. the ... CHANGELOG. There, you can see what the ROM is based on, what's been added and what's been removed. Compare changelogs to know the difference.
why are people that post threads like this not banned from xda for about a year

Yes, but I'm not talking about a pure user experience, but related to bug level of the ROMs and its daily usability. I read changelogs, but I want to know about people opinions, furthermore it's not strictly related to a specific ROM, but just to Android versions. Just to have an idea on how much are serious some bugs

That's why you are not an admin or moderator man , because on a Q&A forum, people are free to ask about anything (that's the reason why Q&A exist) and ask about others experience or opinion could be useful for someone who wants to take a decision, just that. So don't flame on my thread and be respectful!

Actually, he's right. These kinds of threads are hated. In Q&A, you are free to ask about anything as long as you follow the rules. Now, have you even read the rules? I'd say no, you haven't.
The very first rule on xda says "Search before posting", if you had searched about the most stable version/ROM, you would have come across numerous threads where people are flamed (just like you) for posting this, you will also know that no matter what your reason is, you should not ask about the 'most stable, fastest, best'. Because what you might think is bugless, others might think it is not. What you may like and think is stable, others might think otherwise.
I agree, he shouldn't have flamed, but again, you shouldn't have posted this thread in the first place.

I read and respected the rule of XDA, in fact I know there are several threads about "stable, best, fastest..." but those were too general discussions, I'm just asking about JB because we can state JB is really young but is the most updated version of Android, so I think it's important to have a point of reference on which version of JB could be declared stable as we can do with Gingerbread 2.3.7.
IMHO 4.1.2 seems to be the most stable, and I wanted to have an opinion from others just that.
AND... I can accept your way to say things, because I can understand and follow your advice... BUT I can't accept the way Kameirus answered my post, he was very and unrespectful about me. And the respect must be granted regardless of the XDA's rules!
In addition, I specified in the OP's note, it's important to indicate a point of comparison, to understand the meaning of each judgment, in this way we can get a more objective comparisons. If you say a ROM is more stable than another one, specifying the reasons why you think that we can reduce the subjective factors.
Now, if someone would share his experience I'll read very willingly, otherwise this thread will bump down without any war or flame

Well as I just said I used JB not very carefully, because I'm on NativeSD that is really great, but it share the same fat32 partition so Android folders and app folders are the same for each ROM that you install on it. I think it could gives problems.
I tried a bit the Pacman ROM and it has really nice features, as I already said Android 4.1.2 seems to be more stable than 4.2.2. Or now we can say 4.2.2 is stable as 4.1.2?
Also, I had a good feeling with JellyTime (4.1.2) but it seems not supported a lot from the developer. I would install it for heavy use but I don't want change ROM if problems comes up.
Do you think Pacman could be stated as daily usable? What are its defects? I see it's WIP yet and there's no BUG log on the OPs

Well I know XDA its ment for developers.. And they are kind enough to share their hard work with us.. Bringing new life to our devices and more..
Developers always gets piss off about stupid question and or issues reports without providing a logcat... While I'm agree with this.. I'm not agree with XDA letting average noob post in development section.. Looking at the nature of the forum I can not believe there's isn't a way to block a person from posting in development if that person at least doesn't have (3 months and 350 post) in the forums... That's Imho a reasonable period of learning how to be helpful and provide useful information in development area...
I look at the case of Francisco Franco.. I really enjoy his works and support him a lot.. I had his kernels when I had a Gnex and that + cm9 was the best experience of Android for me.. Then I've sold the gnex and bought the note and one of the reasons I came without thinking was franco kernels does support note.. For my surprise he stopped supporting because of the ****ing trolls about a bluetooth issue in the kernel and so we all rest has to pay for it not haven updates anymore...
Recently he came back and one of the very first welcome post was a random noob asking for the bluetooth again. ... And Ffs I don't want to lose Francisco support again... And he was very clear about it..
I think XDA SHOULD block as I said earlier users with the double conditional of (3 month old account and 350 post) from writing on development.. They could read and download but not write..
Any user with those conditions not only be experienced enough to provide a logcat but will be scared of messing in development because he could get banned and lose his hard work in the account.....
That said I think there is no excuses to do so.. Look also to Entropy... I think the guy gotta buy a new keyboard every day raging at Noobs posting bs in cm9/10 developed threads..
XDA go ahead and take actions before we lose our developers

Wisdom strong in this post is. Franco is a really good developer and I'm sad he left Note. He used to develop for my old Huawei before he left for GNex and his kernel rocked.
But... One shouldn't take the regular forum trolls too seriously. Just leave them crying in their own **** and move own. There is also the report function here.
I agree with you though that there is way too much idiots in the development forums. Just look at the new JB PA 1.1 thread: couple of first pages just full of posts "how do I install this?" "does this brick my phone!?" etc. So annoying to find the actual bug reports or feedbacks through all the ****. This is because people are way too lazy to actually study anything these days. Everything has to brought to them ready and chewed.
Edit: and there is also this one hero that already bricked his note with JB PA because he didn't care to study stuff before flashing. :banghead:

Just report their posts. The mods are also sick of it and are handing out infractions, IIRC. I have yet to see a noob post again after reporting him, so it works very well.
It seems the original dev section doesn't have the 10 post requirement like the normal dev section. And most spam is from people with one or a few posts. It would definitely help to have that 10 post rule there.

I certainly agree on you with this one. But like in every other forum and the whole internet, you can't really prevent noobs and trolls. Trolls gotta troll man. Kinda hard to filter them out as it will require the mods to check every single day on every single thread with thousands of post on it and obviously that will take full time. Most of us specially moderators do this for a hobby.
Let's just do our part to make the community a better place. That is reporting trolls. Like the other guy said on the 2nd post, let's just click on that little report button and the mods will take care of the rest or you can just ignore the regular forum troll and move on like most of us do. An old internet saying "Don't feed the trolls" ignore them and the average forum troll will just hunt for the next trollable thread and will eventually get tired, while the persistent ones, well let's just keep on clicking the report button and wait for the banhammer to land
The post requirement or the tenureship in the forum is a fantastic idea though. Maybe even the thanks meter/level, like you could post even if you're not 3 months old or don't have 350 posts but if you do have a certain thanks level/meter you could post and access the restricted area of the forums. No one would press the thanks button if you didn't post something useful right?

put categories as "devs" and restrict allowed posts to those people only. then cross referrence the thread to a discussion page for noobs and others to bash each other.
those who wish to post in the dev section should provide a fully working firmware for downloads and testing purposes for the ones designated as "testers" on xda.
i know its a lot of work, but its a solution if the admin will put the political will to it.

Although you have a point here i really don't like the idea. Ok we need to restrict the troll posts but..... once you were a noob too !!!! What we see now is that this site has grown to numbers never seen before. In the early days there were only a handfull users, a few devices and not much to do. Nowadays if you have a problem EVERYBODY refers to this forum from other places. So basicly we have a flood of new, unexperienced, people that just have one big problem: THEY DON'T READ!!!! I've been a member for a long time now, learned a lot just by reading and only post when i think it's usefull to the comunity. Even after all this time i still sometimes ask questions like a noob, should i be blocked???
There is one solution for this problem: NOT allowing to post untill they have at least read a few posts MARKED as an obligation. But i don't think it's possible.
What we see here is the growing of a forum with soo many devices and people, i think about a year or two this will stabelize :laugh::laugh:

Sometimes the trolls you are referring to are actually innocent noobs who are afraid of bricking their new Notes. They just want to double check some crucial things before attempting risky procedures.
Were we not all noobs at one point in our lives?
I know both trolls and noobs can be really frustrating but many of the members here can be quite impatient, responding rudely and degrading the once-friendly community.
I do agree with you though and I definitely think changes need to be made to ensure the development thread remains strictly development related. But I also think changes should be made to some members attitude too.

I abandoned a forum in my country due to "laws /rules" like that. Things were just getting out of proportion that it is impossible to help people there. Unfortunatly the mods over there think that they are god and if you make a reference about this forum or about rooting you will get banned !!!! I don't think that it's the future of this forum..
Restrict some topics to people that have more then xx months or xx posts will help. But i don't think it's possible to do. And what a bout people like me, i only read here, learn and do not post often. I don't have time to make a rom or custom firmware and come here for leasure ??? Am i elegible for seeing everything...... As you see it is very hard to make the choise about who can have full accesws and who doesn't.

Write on development section thread should have some restriction.
And thank meter is one good criteria (just being member since long/posting just certain number of post dont make skilled)
if member have at least 10-20 thank meter he/she must have some skill and may not post noob Q.
There is always Q/A section is open for newbies.
this needs to be said.....
i have to call you out on this. The OP has been posting bizarre and rambling questions in DEV threads, getting all pissed off when ppl ask him not too, and has even admitted to not wanting to bother reading the thread because he is not that stupid.
It is people LIKE YOU that are bringing this place down.
If you cant be bothered searching or reading, you DO NOT BELONG on a development website. end of story.
If you want to make your phone look pretty to impress your mates, go some place else. XDA is all about the journey - the end result is not so important. its about trying things yourself and sharing knowledge. If you are just lucky enough, you might even be able to help someone out!
do not come here to whinge and flame others when you break the rules (do NOT post in a dev thread if it is not directly related to the development of that thread).
Also, you have to wonder how a user of 4 months has over 1000 posts, and some members have been here for years with only 500 posts.....

So? When I was uncertain about something I posted it in either the general or Q/A section. Why the hell should anyone be posting questions in the dev section?
And no, despite contrary belief, some people are newbies, some people are noobs. Not everyone used to be a noob. There is a massive void between the two. A newbie is one that is self-learning and is capable of exercising some semblance of common sense with regards to forum rules and forum etiquette when he joins a new forum.
So please, if you want to consider yourself a noob at one point, go right ahead. But do not make sweeping statements that everyone was a noob.

There are no real reasons to rage at some users posts.
There's nothing SO bad about it.
You can always press 'report' button if some super-mega-trolls come to your thread (I haven't seen any yet)
As for me, XDA community is currently not so friendly as it should be.
Devs raging at most of the posts, advanced users trolling noobs...
That's really not so nice.
Blocking users with small post count or small thanks count, etc is unacceptable in my opinion. Really.
Maybe XDA is meant for developers, but developers can't exist without users they are developing for.
Here is Example, why we should need some control

This I agree, sometimes it's not that they're noob, it's that they're kiasu, as we Singaporeans call it. They spam devs with stupid questions, since it's free to ask anyway, and expect people to be free 24/7 to reply.
Also, many devs hate XDA. Because much dev work is not being appreciated here. In the Acer Iconia A500 section, both devs "Thor2002pro" and "dexter_nlb" have made amazing contributions to the community, but many *******s don't appreciate what they have done. They have left subsequently.

Hey I was wondering if anyone out there was bored/interested enough in making a thread with comparisons of all the ROMs in them I just ordered mine today and I'm noticing that few of the ROMs actually have a "features included" section, so I would love for someone to make one for those of us looking to compare them while waiting for our phone or without having to try them all I know people will say "just try them all" but even just a general impressions thread would be very helpful to a lot of people

because you can basically read what each rom is about, you can flash and try, Only you can decide if a rom is good or not.
I've tried a lot of high rated roms and i've hated it. Same goes with kernels. Don't make about thread asking which is the best. Best for what? Performance or battery life? How much will you use the phone etc.
It's really a flash and try. There is no good or bad.

we r not asking for the best, we just wanna know the differences,, thats it.....differences in features and look...thnx
I understand the whole flash and try thing, and if I could I probably would at least try a few But yeah this isn't a "which rom is best" but rather a "what makes this ROM unique"
It's just a simple request if anyone has the time/interest in doing so, I don't want to go onto the ROM pages asking people there what it's all about
I'd like one too! Back when I had my one s I'd always went straight for cyanogen just for pure android..now that it already comes with the phone I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything if I'm not rooting and installing a new rom..
Most ROM threads have a features section or a changelog section detailing what is different or modified. Also, there is a thread that compiles a link to all the available ROMs by category (whether they are CM based or AOSP based, etc).
I recommend going to that thread and then navigating to your ROM of interest to read its description. I highly doubt anyone is willingly to compiles a comparison thread for you because ROMs are constantly changing. If you look at some of the threads, they have no updates and releases every day. By the time someone posts the comparison thread, it will probably be already outdated.
In short, your best option is to read to narrow your choices, then actually try out the options you have on hand.

Threads covering the inquiry of the best of something, be it roms, battery life etc. aren't allowed.
there WAS other threads like this before the mods got to them please read the stickies and rules before starting a new thread as this question and many others like it are not aloud and will be closed as soon as a mod sees it. And the reason they are banned is because every ROM effects everyone's phone differently so what could be great for someone else may be bad for you so it ends up becoming a pointless thread with people complaining about battery life. There is also a Q&A forum for all your questions please use that next time as it saves making clutter

Same rule still applies as I found jellybean the best for me others prefer ICS so you see it would end up in a boot loop of sorts

So? The "best" of anything is really a matter of one's own preference, whether you're too ignorant to understand or not. hence why they're not allowed and this will be locked in due time.

So, if someone will post his version(not what ROM they're using) and phone use + configurations, will that be ok with you, Mr.Know-All?
I think it will be good for other users, who have the same version, but want to know what configuration is the best for battery life, so they can do the same.

No these sort of posts are against the rules .
Simply because their is no best and the posts break down into abuse .
Likewise multiple identical separate posts on the same subject crop up week after week .

Well it depends what exactly you want. For example you can try this one:

EXACTLY!!
You see! He tried recommending you the best and most stable 3 roms of all from his opinion, yet you liked NONE of them. Your "preferences" are different from everyone else's. He likes sense, you don't. He didn't have crashes on tytung's ics, you did. He thinks Sense is fancy and wonderful, you think it's slow and buggy.
It was your fault for making this thread in the first place. That's why the "best rom", "most stable", "fastest rom" ... etc threads are despised and hated.
I suggest you read Kameirus's post and you will understand what I mean. (if you haven't already).

What's the best food?
What's the best phone?
What's the best song?

OH WAIT, YOU CAN'T ANSWER BECAUSE IT'S AN OPINION BASED QUESTION!
Seriously, I'm getting really tired of these best ROM threads. There is no correct answer, and yet you people still create them. All that happens is that they're closed by a mod or they turn into 10 post spam threads where new users open old threads to post questions in the dev forums. If you just wanted the ROM most people use then why not look at the thread view count and post count?
To quote PG101 (I think) 'coming to XDA and asking for the best ROM is like going into a bar full of drunks and asking what's the best drink'.
I wouldn't have posted this if you had admitted in post #6 that you're wrong through Marvlesz and Kameirus's pure logic, but you've somehow tried to justify posting an idiotic question which is quite annoying.

Isnt this an Android Q&A forum. Why is everyone so neurotic about these "best rom" threads? There is a avalanche of information on xda...This i agree...however its very easy to get completely blindsighted by the sheer volume of threads and the "best rom, most stable" etc, are usually shot down very soon after the question is asked.
If one cant offer any guidence or if one gets frustrated by these threads then why click on the thread and why take time to respond negitively instead of just skimming past and ignoring the thread?
I get that it becomes tiresome for seasoned members here to see these threads but please can we not just assume that the posters are just being "Lazy". Its also worth note that is increasingly difficult for new users to post here for fear of upsetting others with their (mostly well intentioned) ill thought out questions..
XDA is such a great source of knowledge and resource and i agree one needs to take the time to read, read and read some more sometimes though we can get lost and sometime are just asking to be pointed in a direction that has benefited others. Ie' a rom thread where the reading will begin b4 flashing
Flashing for the 1st time can be tricky as their is a lot to take in and one can be nervous of the procedure, and if too many of us take it apon ouselves to be the forum police then the the prospect becomes slightly less appealing.
Sorry i dont mean to offend anyone by sounding off but i too am new to much of the flashing roms, and also am guilty of comming to these threads in the hope of finding a majority of agreement on a particular rom. I do understand that it is subjective and one does not fit all. However it can give confidence to new flashees if experienced users can offer recomendations which have been offered here above, which i personally an very greatfull for.
Sometimes we are but sheep and will follow where led.

I do get it. But it doesnt mean it doesnt frustrate me to see the responses in these threads just as it frustrates those who are rattled by the thread even existing who feel the need to jump on and respond.
If it bugs you... you can leave it alone and move on OR you can let the OP know your frustration by refusing to answer the question and telling them to get off XDA. But surely its easier to ignore it?
It honest feels that the forum has become quite arrogant at times especially where "newbs" are concerned. And it can feel at times slightly Elitist (those that Can vs those who need help) with a disregard to anyone who doesnt know where to begin.
One post i read earlier told a FM to "get off the android forum and dont come back" for asking a similar question... How is this helping and how is it got to the point where there are many 'thanks' thumbsup to this sort of response.
I doubt that OP would be back in a hurry but i guess if it stops them asking 'stupid' questions....Theres a pattern forming where some members here who have flashed successfully a few times then become part of this club that pretends to be irritated by 'best rom' threads and i assume it makes them feel superior by responding with negative feedback to ones who genuine are looking for just a point in the right direction. Why not just 'Not Respond' at all??
Its like pack mentality sometimes and thankfully it is a minority of members who are rattled and on the whole XDA is immensely helpful to newcomers who will learn the hard way to never ask "that" question :banghead:

We are members of this community, thus we have to do our best to make it better. We do this by telling people who post such threads about how wrong it is and the correct way of finding "the" rom. But it got out of hand, you can check that for yourself. Every other week, there is a thread asking the exact same thing, i.e "best rom, fastest, stable". Whereas it should be common sense that there is no best in subjective things as Nigel summed it.
Now the problem is that many people think xda is a support site. Here is a quote from a senior member that I couldn't agree more with:
TheATHEiST said:

While it is true that you can find help on xda, that doesn't mean it is given on a silver platter. If you can't bother to help yourself, we can't bother to help you. Furthermore, finding a question that a 2-click search could've provided a more-than-satisfactory answer or finding a post that is almost the same as a two-rows-below post is rather very irritating.
... become part of this club that pretends to be irritated by 'best rom' threads and i assume it makes them feel superior by responding with negative feedback to ones who genuine are looking for just a point in the right direction. ...

That's impossible, if you're asking "what's the best rom", there is no way you're looking for a point in the right direction. Because basically there is no right direction. Some people even try to justify their stupid posts with even more stupid posts.
The HD2 has been out for about 4 years now. NO matter what your problem is, it has a 99% probability it has been asked AND answered before MULTIPLE times. Now if people can't bother to follow the very first rule of the forum rules, they don't deserve to be helped.
When they first registered on xda, they agreed to abide by the terms, rules and conditions. Now if you agree to abide by something and then break that thing, you take full responsibility and deserve everything you get for that breaking.

A common misconception, this is a development forum (hence XDA developers ). Other than this I don't really have anything to add to Marvlesz's post tbh. You have to understand that when I posted that there had been literally three similar threads in a row. When you're posting a thread search results for the same or similar title even come up, so there wasn't any excuse for this thread to have been created. There's a subtle line between not knowing and not trying, and this is the latter.
It's problem to me too... I have 1.5 gb roms on my SD and no one fully work for me =(
Ok so i am aware that my earlier post was ott on my part and can only apologize. Must have been posting through some red mist I admit i jumped in without thinking and was unduely judgemental. Sorry bout that Everyone here esp devs are doing such amazing work for our gadgets to perform at their peaks and i am immensely appreciative of that. I agree with the above that this is first a "Development" forum and can be misconceived by some (myself included ) as somewhere where the answers are uniform and one in the same. However i see this is not the case and opinions to questions such as "whats the best, fastest most stable" etc, are so diverse and if everyone were to give an opinion then i guess these threads would also just get messy and lengthy with NO satifactory conclusion.
Sorry Guys...Really Didnt mean to offend. However i can see how my wording may have done so :banghead:

Might be a fair question but comparison threads are frowned upon and get shut down.
Developers all work hard and we wouldn't want a thread that takes a crap on anyone's hard work right?

Hi Guys,
By asking the question I in no way mean to be disrespectful toward the developers. On the contrary am in awe and in great admiration of them. And when possible have even contributed to "buying them a few beers" .
I merely ask the question coz I would want to install a stable and good performing ROM in the my phone. I could ofcourse download each one and test them out but isn't it the very point of having a forum such as this to help fellow ROM users choose the best and get the best out of their phone.
As regards comparisons I think the developers should not be too sensitive as comparisons are a review of their work and if they have put out ROMs in a public forum for the use of the public then feedback and review should be welcomed. Nothing wrong in pointing out if a certain ROM functions better than another in certain aspects. I have seen many posts that say that a certain kernel provides better performance or battery life compared to another and I dont ever see any criticisms of such comparisons but when it comes to asking or giving the same kind of comments bout a ROM we see people get really touchy on the subject. I dont think saying a particular ROM functions better than another is in anyway being disrespectful or be-belittling the work done by them.
There are 3 roms out there of 4.3 leak MI6,MJ2,MJ5..
I tried 2 of them MI6 and MJ2
MI6 has 2 main bugs i.e keyboard swype doesn't work and google acc dissappearing bug after every boot but MI6 has best battery I had after 4.1.1 roms.
MJ2 is newer and has some bug fixes mentioned above but its battery life for me is less than MI6.
so my vote goes to MI6 though now I am on dr.ketan v3 rom which is mix of all these 3 roms and thinking to switch to MJ5 to test it...
and one more thing MJ2 and MJ5 have knox bootloader so better first read every instruction before doing anything...
This MJ5 is stable and free of Knox
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494460
I've played about with a couple of roms now and must say I'm very very impressed with the dirty unicorns unofficial 4.3.1 for the note 2 LTE, very fast, stable, and great battery life.

These types of threads, ie "what is best" or "What is most stable" threads are not allowed because they are just opinions and best/stable are subjective.
If you want to answer these questions you need to try some roms and do it yourself.
