I cross checked with a note 2 multiple times with the same pages open. The note 2 chrome uses only about 60MB.
On the other hand, the gs4 chrome uses anywhere between 200 to 600MB.
This is insane. I have hard reset the s4 and the same situation occurs.
Is there an explanation for this?
On my sgs4 chrome uses only about 60 mb

Same here. Anyone have the same problem? I'm on stock MG1 firmware
The same issue. Chrome on my note 10.1 works fine, but on S4, it seems to have problems with RAM release. When I close tabs, RAM for chrome doesn't decrease.
Which galaxy s4 u have? Because since one gt i9505 user said it cosmume only 60mb maybe it s not optimized for exynos ... which is ridiculous solely to the fact that it comes preinstalled ...
Chrome Beta on my Exynos i9500 takes up only 233Mb RAM with 3 desktop websites tabs open. The verge desktop, Engadget desktop and pocket now desktop. These are some resource heavy sites. Empty chrome takes about 73-80MB.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

do you tend to use desktop versions when browsing? i do and it gets so bloated at times ... u close all tabs and chrome still cosmumes 600-700mb ram ... multi-window with chrome is also too buggy due to ram drainage issues ... those from personal experience so despite i like chrome i don't use it anymore
btw my version of chrome isn't characterized as beta

Try the latest chrome beta. I have no ram issues or drainage issues as you can see from the pics I posted in my last post. I am gradually using it more and more over the stock because of such stable performance. Even the JavaScript score is better on chrome beta than stock. One known bug is the animation stutter when opening and closing tabs which will be fixed soon. I am running mg5. Maybe it has something to do with the firmware too.

So guys after a lot of days testing and after i have installed some Apps and using heavy multitasking i must say this GS III has limits on heavy usage.
The reason is the limit of RAM.. yes 1 GB still is not good as we could think..if you are going to install big apps and big games.
I have found this using the web browser with some flashplayer videos without using full screen just the window.. after few minutes the video has stopped playing just listen to the audio..and the gsIII start becoming hot ..sometimes it even crashed and came back to homescreen realoading widget and so on...and i'm not using TouchWiz Natur UX (heavy launcher on usage of RAM) but the lighter and faster Nova Launcher.. i will post some screens and info to warn of this problem i found on GS III
Those are apps installed

Same experience here. Flash vids freezing, black screen, briwsing quiting to home screen, music player quiting in background, longerwebpages not loading fully and the dreaded homescreen restarts. The experience comes up short compared to last years sgs2 and note on gingerbread.
It sounds more like Flash player is the problem or possibly the browser. Try another browser.
Well that doesn't sound promising. Seems like the phone works wonderful at first, but degrades quickly

You guys just figure this out now? No offence intended but only 1GB of ram was obvious to me that this issue was going to occur. Of the 1GB 1/3 is taken for the system and an almost another 1/3 by the video card your then left with barley over a 3rd for yourself. Come June 20th ill be very happy to get the 2GB NA model. Like I said no offence but I saw this coming.

Mate, no offence, i'm not expert with android or any other developer stuffs but i will certainly disagree about pointing out the RAM to be the problem.
I have both SGS2 and SGS3 and as of the moment i can confidently say that when it comes to multi-tasking, my SGS2 performs better than the latter. How did i come up to it?
-->In my SGS2, I can simultaneously run my GPS on, run Sygic Navigation, play music using Poweamp, while watching Avatar HD(2GB) using the Stick it Pop up video player by MBFG, and then leave all running in background and even watch video using the Floating browser without having any problem, not to mention the live wallpaper i'm using and all the widgets running as well. And take note, both SGS2 and SGS3 have the same amount of RAM.
Right now, I'm also quite disappointed with my S3 as it locks up every now and then with just a simple usage.
My theory or say, just a guess is that, it is related with the Kernel or worst, the ROM itself. Let's just wait for the hard-working devs here to find a workaround for this matter.

Right, but how much does your gnex stock google OS use vs the GS3? You probably have a ton more free ram out of the box than the GS3 does...i guess we know why they put 2 gigs into the new (north america/japan) ones...
Also, does using a different launcher get rid of all that memory? I would think twiz is still running somewhere, just not the launcher itself, so it's still eating up ram... so once you flash a CM/AOKP, they should have this figured out...
I personally don't play much beyond angry birds / words w friends and that type of stuff, so I don't see this being an issue for me, esp with 2 gigs, but I feel your frustration, that would piss me off, spending that kinda money and having those issues.
Well US version was not even an option for many of us in USA. I wanted unlimited data and that's possible on international version only. And I have no issues with ram. Everything works perfectly smoothly for me.

The gnex is using a different soc so it's not going to be the same as the SGS3.
Honestly, we are early adopters and I'm sure Samsung is having most of us be to real beta testers so they can report bugs and fix them.

The only reason Samsung added 2gigs of ram was to separate the competition also using the same dual-cores(one-x) . This also is used for marketing and final purchasing decisions for noobs.

Got extremely sick of abysmal scrolling performance (made me feel like I was using my Touch Pro) and after switching back to stock I now realize how slowly Chrome was loading pages. And a recent bug that resulted in Chrome saving any MP3 with an MPGA extension and stripped ID3 tags for no damn reason.
The only feature I can say I miss is the sharing of open tabs and bookmarks across devices
Can any other browsers sync with desktop Chrome, well, without being Chrome?

as much as i want to be on the bleeding edge, i de-installed that one. using pages like xda and responding got so bad it was basically useless. i dunno what google is doing there. writing a browser is probably harder than writing an OS, but still, the others can do it to some extend, why not el goog.
I use Opera Mobile, works perfectly and syncs with Google (Chrome favourites on the phone). Loads much quicker as downloaded data is beeing compressed and unpacked.

I really like Dolphin and UC browser but both of them leave stuff running even after you've closed the app. If you look in settings, apps, running apps, you'll find that there are services and processes that are still running long after you've finished using the app. UC browser actually runs even after you've chosen 'quit' from the menu!
Boat browser is far better behaved and so is Chrome but Chrome has no full screen mode and Boat a little clunky to use.
Am I right in thinking that these running processes are using my battery?
I've emailed support for both UC and Dolphin about this and while they're quick to reply about other issues, they are both strangely silent about these running processes..
Can anyone suggest a browser that runs full screen and doesn't pound the battery?

You can always get the current version of Naked Browser from the web site here: http://nakedbrowser.com/android/
Dolphin had been phoning home all visited URLs to their server, even unencrypted https URLs which is a serious blunder. They're not the only ones pulling crap like this. Most Android browsers are spying on users in some way.
In response to this situation, I made Naked Browser. It will never spy or monitor in any way. There aren't even ads. It does not run on boot, does not phone home data, etc. It is just a web browser. If you use the exit button, it actually exits. If you return to your home screen, it goes to sleep and does not wake up unless you go back to it. android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
It is not widely known but apps can query contact data without requiring the READ_CONTACTS permission in the manifest. Why would a web browser need to read your contact data?
android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS
android.permission.USE_CREDENTIALS
These could potentially be used by the browser to auto-login to Google but they could also be used for really evil purposes.
android.permission.READ_LOGS
Basically no app should have this privilege. All kinds of data can be gathered this way.
Execution of external commands
This is scary because it means the app may be extending its tentacles almost anywhere, especially if you are rooted.
Cipher(AES/CBC/PKCS5Padding)
They're encrypting data, presumably to phone it home. WebView-based browsers do not need to do this as the WebView component handles all encrypted traffic. This is something extra added by this app which may have a legitimate use but may also be phoning home data about users.

Slightly off topic but how the heck do you do a rollover on a button? In any browser? I like the stock browser but I hate having to long press on a button then hit back on the soft key to get it to work! I'm no iFan but I do have to commend apple on getting that one thing right. Why does it take these android devs so long to figure this out lol.
I think the main issue is with android fragmentation, where as Apple only have their iDevices.. Gives them more control.
Op I get my note 3 later, will test it out and try a few solutions.. Hopefully there's a silly fix somewhere as I was planning on using stock browser as it's always performed well!! Have you tried dolphin? That's a quick snappy browser imo.

I've been playing with the stock browser for the last day or so since getting this phone. Super smooth and fast. No hiccups or laggy periods. And I also agree the new tab switching is nice compared to older versions I've used (I came from a note 1). The only gripe I have is that you can't seem to load new tabs in background. Now, every time I open a new tab, it loads upon top. Irritating, although I'll have to get used to it.

What about kinetic scrolling? Is it as responsive as note 2? Also I am experiencing this annoying issue when I click on a picture on facebook mobile website it is displayed in very small size. Chrome does not have this issue neither does the stock browser on note 2

Also something that anoyes me a lot in the note 3 is the auto fit pages.. It seems to have disappeared even in chrome. Really a bummer .. With this gorgeous screen you are left out with pages that you have to slide from side to side to be able to read a zoomed page :banghead:

Step away from the Stock Browser would be my suggestion. Ive been using Chrome and havent had any issues. There are other browsers that have been tested and proved great performance

Just wondering if Android can load while scrolling in apps without having to stop the scrolling and wait for the load to complete? I'm coming from iOS and in apps like Facebook and Instagram they do this. I can scroll freely through my feeds with out having to stop and load something I have been having to do with my new Note 4. This was an issue on past Android phones as well.
Thanks for any help.

Sadly Android is not as smooth as iOS with scrolling. My note 4 is more jerky on the Facebook feed than my Nexus 5 running Lollipop, so that may have been improved in Lollipop... lets hope so, I really dislike that, it happens on many apps, not just ones where images are still loading.
Maybe you need faster internet connection?

And why iOS can scroll faster with the same internet?
You sound like an Android fanboy.

What do you mean? Won't you agree slow internet connection can prolong picture loading time? It is just logical thinking.
Anyway, facebook app in android phone is never optimized properly. Maybe can try Friendcastle

He means it should scroll smoothly regardless of whether the photos have loaded or not.
