Installing loki'd custom recovery? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Forgive me for sounding like a complete idiot, but wouldn't a recovery file have to be loki'd? If so, has CWM been released for use with the exploit?

Look in the Development forum. And if you're not VERY confident, wait a couple of days and there will be more stuff available and better instructions.

Found it right after I posted this lol. I should be good with his instructions. Thanks!

How do I flash ROMs on the s4?

I've been reading about the boot loader hack that's out. I'm unrooted and really want to root this thing. Just kind of confused about the Loki process. I was going to root then use goomanager to get twrp since I heard its loki'd. Does that mean after I do that I just pick a ROM and flash it? If so is it only certain types of ROMs? Kinda confused

Best thing you can do is more reading. Read about the Loki exploit, read the TWRP thread, read the CWM thread.
After you read, you should have a better idea of what you want to do.
In my opinion, the simplest thing to do is download GooManager and use it to install TWRP. TWRP is a fine custom recovery. However, I would then go to the (OUDHS) CWM thread and flash the CWM zip (using TWRP) to get CWM for your custom recovery. CWM is also a very fine custom recovery, plus, shabbypenguin has cooked in the ability for it to Loki ROMs for you. Again read about it yourself and if you have any questions use the forums "search" function to answer them or look in the threads I listed. Good luck.

If you go the OUDHS (CWM) route you can flash any that would otherwise be safe to flash if the bootloader were unlocked. Like I said, the CWM thread has a lot of information about which ROMs are flashable already in that thread.

[Q] Can someone point me in the right direction please?

For a while we were all waiting for the bootloader to be hacked, but I think that has happened now. I'm wondering now what is available? I see threads about custom ROM's but I don't see any threads on tutorials on how to install CWM so I can flash these ROM's? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I've been searching around the forums here and I don't trust anything outside of XDA for this.

Probably the easiest way to get flashing ROMs if your already rooted is download goomanager from the play store hit the menu button and then install open recovery script and pick twrp 2.5.0.2 once it downloads and installs turn the phone off verify you have twrp recover by holding volume up+home+ power when it vibrates release only the power button if it goes to twrp reboot the phone and download the oudhsrecovery cwm flashable zip boot back into recovery and flash oudhs recovery..
Oudhsrecovery automatically Loki's your ROM and kernel so even if you download one that isn't lokid your still good to go..
As of now I know people are using ROMs from the att forum, tmobile, sprint, and the international i9505 forums... I9500 ROMs won't work as they are for the octacore s4

Once I ran this, I flashed the following recovery in TWRP. It will auto-Loki whatever you flash in it.

Word to the wise: ALWAYS make a backup before anything!

New to AT&T S4, confused about ROM, Loki, etc.

I have an overseas rom for i9505 that I really want to use on my I337 (AT&T). However it does not come with any custom rom beside those 1.7GB .md5 stock roms. I have tried using CASUAL Root and Recovery to install TWRP, but I got stuck at how I should install the rom that I have. From my experience I should have a flashable zip on my hand. I then look at Kitchen and Loki but I am totally confused about it. Can anyone point me to the right direction about how what to do with the i9505 rom that I wish to install? Thanks.

Follow the instructions in this link. If it seems to foreign to you, stop and don;t attempt to flash anything until you have a clear understanding. Several people in this forum have put together threads intended to help.

I know that thread. It seems like the prerequisite is to have a custom rom. In my case I don't have a custom rom that's why I got stuck here...

There is no prerequisite to have a custom rom already installed. You need to be rooted with a custom recovery. You flash the rom in recovery. Twrp and cwm are recoveries.

No I am not talking about a "custom rom already installed". What I mean is, the rom needs to be CWM flashable, which is a ZIP file containing Meta-INF, which is also a "custom rom". However, the only file I have access is MD5 file which is an ODIN file. I think I can't flash the ODIN file in TWRP, right?
no locked bootloader will check security of the md5, however ...in your case you can get a linux and un tar the md5... make a flashable..patch with loki..and flash

[Q] Confused and stuck - with AT&T SGH-i337 (MF3)

Hello everyone
I am looking to root and install a custom ROM on my AT&T S4 SGH-i337 (MF3) phone. The whole process is confusing... I see one video saying this and another saying that. I finally found a site to root my phone but the loki recovery step says "loki aboot version does not match device" while using Terminal emulator. I wanted to install the FOXHOUND ROM or something similar. I just wish someone had ONE place to get the correct information for your specific phone.
The link below is where I found out how to root my S4.

If your phone came with MF3 already then I'm afraid you can't flash Custom Roms yet since the bootloader is locked my friend.

I would highly recommend you stop everything you're doing and put some time into reading up about MF3. You are likely to bork your phone if you continue. Cheers

As the others mentioned, you should read up more on MF3, and stop trying to do anything to it. MF3 is the firmware version AT&T pushed out after the Loki exploit was released, and with it they patched the exploit.
From this point, you have a couple options:
1. Root using this method, and then use Xposed mods to customize your stock rom.
2. Follow this thread closely, and wait for Hashcode to release a working version.
Oh, and get your information only from this site. Don't go to galaxys4root.

For now there's nothing you can do till someone unlocks the bootloader you can use the MOD WanamXposed.1.4.2 look it up in playstore make sure if you use it to install
first XposedInstaller_2.1.4 then WanamXposed.1.4.2 that's if your wanting to custimize the stock rom a bit, Read the instructions in playstore for WanamXposed.1.4.2

From what I see is you have 2 options.
Option 1: Keep your phone rooted and don't mess anything up. So you have to be very careful while rooted and not mess with the system files.
Option 2: Check this thread out as someone was able to reflash their galaxy s4 on mf3 at Best Buy' Samsung Kiosk:

Slightly offtopic but I notice Hascode is working on Verizon's S4. How will Hascode's version be compatible with AT&T? Is it mainly because both verizon & at&t have a similar locked bootloader?

At this point, there's no harm in installing the Xposed Framework, and using Wanam Xposed. There are a lot of cool tweaks in there, and the only requirement is root, which you already have.

In Hashcode's OP, he says that he is developing SafeStrap for "the locked versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4." I assume that means both Verizon and AT&T.
Pick up a s4 today that is on mf3. But i dont think it came shipped with mf3. I duno if this has been asked but can i downgrade it sense it wasnt shipped with mf3?

Can't Install CWM?

I have a rooted MK2 device. I tried installing CWM through ROM Manager but my phone will not boot the CWM and when I try it comes up with an error.
It seems to be installing a Loki'd version of CWM recovery will solve the problem, but I don't how to flash loki recoveries and I've looked all over the forums for one specific to loki'd recoveries. Can someone help me out please? I'm relatively new at this so I'm totally unsure about how to proceed. Many thanks!
Sadly, no custom recoveries are currently available for MK2.

Oh no Well I have a few questions then.
1. I would like to install a 4.4 Google Edition rom. Is there any way for me to accomplish this? Also, is it a bad idea to go ahead and flash it without a recovery?
2. Should I revert the recovery back to original? How would I go about doing that?

There isn't anything you can do so far. The only thing you could do is use an app I can't remember the name of to flash mods to your current system, but you can not flash ROMs and definitely not anything that may need a different kernel. If you want to get a working recovery then find the MJ6-MJ9 thread but only use the recovery tar file, not the rest of it.

well.....if you were on MF3 then you could load safestrap and then get the google edition but it wont support the 4.4 only the 4.2.2 version of the GE
thats what i did. i highly doubt there will be an unlocked bootloader for MK2 im on mf3 and cant even update to 4.3 MK2.....ill ask the developer of safestrap and ask him because he was getting a MK2 galaxy s4 on att last week and he was doing some testing....or you can do some research your self but im happy to help even though my account says im a junior member i know quite a lot....
if safestrap works here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448726
IF SAFESTRAP WORKS LOOK UP A GUIDE ON HOW TO USE IT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE BECAUSE I TOLD YOU ABOUT IT also dont use the stock rom slot if all this works
