Can you please tell me what is the maximum temp. achieved by your Galaxy S4. I am attaching screen shot of my S4 showing temp. 54C.
I request you to attach the screenshot also.
i had submitted my phone to service center as it is getting heated a lot but they have given it back to me saying it has no problems and it is workinf normal but it is not. Tomorrow I am going there again to resubmit it but before that i will need some screenshots to show them.
Hope you upload those ASAP.
had the phone for 6 days now and max temp i've reached is 51C

mine gets HOT
highest I've seen is been is about 87 maybe 88 but 86 is my highest recorded temp.
the Galaxy S 4 is definitely the most reliable in my opinion.
I reached 75°C in while gaming. I think this is how the phone was designed, otherwise Samsung would have not released it. You can take it to as many services as you want, but they can't fix something that ain't broken.
Unless it's overheating for no apparent reason (like high temperatures when it is in stand-by) then you should just leave it be.
I9506 user here. I would not worry, the phone is fine.
I got past 80 while gaming, too. It also gets hot while doing lots of websurfing, especially on cellular data. I've had the phone for a year and a half and never ran into issues because of the heating, although it does tend to get really hot in the summertime.

I got my S4 around 2 weeks ago, everything works fine, but it just heated up abit too quickly & sometimes you couldn't even touch the phone, so i asked Samsung about this problem, they replaced my phone but it kept and happening. So i decided to do some research, i didn't really find anything on the internet, im not a hardcore developer but i know my way around things
After doing some testing to see why it heats up & where, i figured out it was the RAM & CPU. I have around 300 apps installed, that's included system apps too, so 300-130= 170 user apps. So i flashed the latest ROM i could find because i thought it might have been a bug or something, it got abit better but still got really hot .So i decided to root & delete all the bloatware & apps i didn't need, after i did this i found a script on the forums to do this automatically, its not hard to find. It wouldn't heat up as quickly but would still get really hot. So then i decided to go to the extreme & disable all the fancy features the S4 has like Smart View, Air View etc. You know what, my phone hardly heats up really hot!
I also put it into power saving mode, it hardly has no affect on perfomance but my battery can last a day but still be on 40%.
So yes, if your S4 is over heating you have to disable all the features you bought the phone for, c'mon Samsung

anyone here specially any Exynos version user plays dead trigger alot like 40-45 minutes continuously? How's the heating?
So far my 9500 isn't overheating. My nexus 4 would hit 55-60'C on the cpu. My S4 didn't go over 50 yet.

I think it only effects around 15% of S4 owners, it effects both I9505 & I9500

Here's what NotebookCheck DE found. If your i9505 is performing differently I'd guess something's amiss.
Temperature
All this raw power squeezed inside the Galaxy S4 has to produce a lot of waste heat. Luckily, Samsung's engineers have managed to keep the Galaxy S4 cooler than the Galaxy S III. Despite all performance improvements, we never measured more than 42.5 degrees Celsius (108.5 degrees Fahrenheit), a value only achieved after hours of stress tests under full load. This maximum temperature, which occurs next to the ear speaker on the front, is actually 4 degrees less than what we measured for the Galaxy S III. It is only while idle that the increased excess heat becomes noticeable: In this case, the entire surface of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is a few degrees warmer than that of its predecessor.
Heat generation is still very much acceptable, even though the HTC One feels cooler to the touch thanks to its metal case. The hottest device was the Nokia Lumia 920 with up to more than 50 degrees (122 degrees Fahrenheit) under full load, much more than what the Galaxy S4 reaches. I'd not say that, everyone commits mistakes. My initial quote was just for the lulz. :laugh:
I know there are several threads from when the phone first launched about temps on this phone. There was a lot of back and forth between people saying it was running hot and others saying that it's in the normal range. Today my phone was in my pocket and the battery got up to over 101 degrees. The only app running (aside from the normal system apps) was battery saver. No custom roms, nor is it rooted. I wanted to at least save that for after my 14 day return window. Last night it went beyond 107 while playing a game without 3D graphics.
My heart tells me this is not normal and I should return the device. (Verizon) Is this normal for this phone or should I be looking at replacing? Thank you.
I hope you're talking about Fahrenheit. Mind you, you're on an international forum so please at least specify the unit of your measurment
That aside I havent done any concrete testing but I have noticed while playing and using certain apps (or even have it in the background) my d802 goes to a point where it's really uncomfortable to hold against your ear when a call comes in, so I presume it's around 35 to 40°C...
But that is only when I actively pushing it, otherwise no unexpected temp-peaks...
My apologies, yes those temps are in Farenheit, thank goodness. I believe I might take it back then. The instance in my pocket was certainly not pushing it, and the game I was playing didn't even seem to make my prior Galaxy Note 2 break a sweat. I don't believe it is a very demanding game, as far as these things go, and I almost always have my screen set to minimal brightness. Maybe later today I'll go make the switch.
Hello, I just bought an S8 as an upgrade from my beloved S6E+. when I firt turned it on the phone was on 55% I started using smart switch to transfer stuff from my old cellphone over WIFI (over 10gb of stuff) while the phone was updating from the playstore and downloading a software update and updating galaxy apps (too many stuff) I felt the phone getting really warm then it became HOT not uncomfortably but very very noticeable.,I downloaded an app to see the temp. and it reported 59 C for the CPU and 42 for the Battery. then it jumped to 69C for the CPU and 47 for the processor. I waited till everything finished, updated the sofware and reststed. it idled at 42 - 45 C.
I live in a hot country and the outside temprature was 38 C. but my S6E+ never reached such temperatures, and I don't want to bring any drama but the whole Note7 thing is making me paranoid about using the phone while its hot like that. so is this normal??
1. The fact that you're living in a hot country matters. Its a factor. Coz apparently ambient temperatures affects the feel of materials such as glass or Aluminium. So take note of that.
2. You've said it yourself,you made the phone go through a hell doing stuff all at once. Let it settle. Give it days,maybe weeks.
3. If after all that you're still experiencing the overheating,then it could be;
a)Just a software hitch which could be fixed by a simple factory reset or software update.
b) If someone else report the same issue,then it could be a common issue with the phone
c) If no one reports similar issue and yours persist,then you probably have a defective unit,and you should consider replacing it.
I've been running benchmarks on this phone.
I've noticed a couple of things.
Thermal throttling on this phone starts at a very low threshold and is very aggressive.
Supposedly the maximum frequency of the large cluster is 2.45 GHz
At room temperature my phone never reaches that performance.
Here is a copy of the thermal-engine.conf, pulled from system/etc.
As soon as you start to benchmark the speed starts dropping:
At room temp I get Antutu ssores in the 130-150K range.
If the phone has been in a very cool room I get 160K numbers.
If I put it in a very cold environment for a few minutes I can get numbers in the 178K range.
Back to back runs plunge performance.
So it does not surprise me that the phone freezes at times.
Not happy that the phone throttles like this.
I have also found that if the phone gets to 44C then the throttling is so bad that a LG G4 or Samsung Galaxy S6 will outperform this phone.
So the thermal-engine.conf has this phone crippled.
This is speculative, but I wonder if overheating was the cause of the release delay. If so, perhaps this was the workaround they implemented to get the device out. That said, if throttling is the culprit then it could explain why my phone runs like an Evo3D much of the time. Generally before use, it's in my pocket, which is body temperature and the phone is always warm. Maybe even pocket-temp causes throttling?
Oh well, return initiated yesterday, awaiting response from CS - I just can't stand to take a chance a potentially crippled device. While the updated did increase the responsiveness of the screen a slight bit, I didn't see an overwhelming change that put this in the category of other devices running similar hardware. Back to the OP3...

So the device won't get really hot.
It won't even get that warm unless it's charging.
If you put it on a charger, it will be throttled after about a minute.
If I run Antutu and start out with the device sitting on a table in a cool room (too many conditions), I can get a score of about 167K.
If I sit it on a baggy of ice, I can get a score of about 177K but never unless the device is artificially chilled.
But if you run Antutu back to back or GeekBench and look at the temp, as soon as it hits 43C, you hit a wall.
The device won't heat up more than that but it's now running only slightly faster than a 6P and slower than a Pixel XL or Moto Z.
I don't want to pay $850 (yes that much if you include the extended warranty and tax) for a marginal device.
If I had root, I would have played with the thermal-engine.conf. It can't be right.

Good to know, and thanks for the thorough diagnostic! Even with rooting and changing the throttle configs, I fear a voided warranty and bricked phone if it's a design flaw and not a software bug. It's just not worth it for me to wait and see when there are other new and shiny things just around the corner. *squirrel*

I'm pretty sure it's a mistake in the thermal-engine.conf.
I actually contacted them and submitted my information.
You don't throttle from 39-40C down to 50%
I've worked designing chips for better than 25 years.
If the 835 is more efficient than the 810, then there is no need for anything that aggressive.
Anyway, I asked for a RMA and they are sending a the boxes/envelopes.
No cases is a big deal for me also.
Since I'm already at $900 for the phone and camera (taxes and insurance). I might as well give the X a look.
Yeah, it costs more but if I'm already at $900 another couple of hundred isn't going to matter.

I got my S20 a couple days back and never since that day have I not seen my phone heat up every now and then.
Heavy multi-tasking ; this thing starts to warm up which is normal but what is not normal is how excessively hot this device get when using the camera for a little over 5 minutes , whether it is recording videos or clicking pictures, this device becomes unreasonably hot.
Playing a little bit of game on highest settings for a couple of minutes shouldn't be causing as much heat as the S20 ends up generating.
I am skeptical for the logetivity of this device if this heating up keeps up on such trivial tasks.
Not sure, but has anyone before ever experience this kind of problem and has seen the OEM actually fix it with mere software updates?:fingers-crossed:
Let's discuss the status of each of our devices and figure if only a bunch of us have the devices which are behaving like this or is it happening with all of our phones?

Yes I'm also experiencing same thing. Even watching a 3-4 minute video on YouTube makes the phone feel warm. Camera heats up the phone very quickly.
Hope Samsung solves the issue.
Same problem on camera it heats up rilly fast,not seeing that in you tube though..
Same here...or even worse. 5 mins on facebook/twitter and then the device becomes obviously warm.
Same thing happens when doing wireless charging. It still gets warm quite quickly even when fast wireless charging is disabled.

Same problem. So I went to Samsung Service center and told them the problem regarding this overheating issue. What they are telling me is that 41.8 degrees(what they have read from my device using a thermal scanner) is normal (I don't think so as 42 degrees for trivial task is absurd) also they inform me that they will reinstall the operating system once again and check whether the problem still persists, if yes replacement will be done by giving us one certificate that we can take it to the shop where we have bought the phone and get a new s20 (what a lengthy process).

New Software updates
Since I wrote this post, there have been two updates pushed by samsung.
None of them made any dent to the slew of problems that this phone has been having.
I tested antutu score, I know they are not the real test for day to day usage but these scores have actually dropped since latest update.
The camera albeit is better at focusing , I can testify to that as I made two videos before and after the updates and I can see some difference but the heating is still going on like crazy.
Now I think, Samsung should have added a heat vapor chamber in the phone to manage this hot garbage.
Very disappointed to have payed so much and not even get the performance as good as the last year's SD devices.
Facing the same issue. I just want to know how can I get is replaced.
Samething on Exynos. When it hits 40c, it automatically switches to 60hz and get back when it cools down. Exynos was never good.
But one thing I can say for sure if you are worry about longevity. Never user your phone while it is charging. One thing is using your phone hot while discharging. Another thing is using it while charging and it will definitely impact battery life long term speaking.
I would disable fast charging too.
Same here! And if you have like 30-35% battery and your phone begins to heat up, say goodbye to 120hz, I think it throttles so hard that the performance can't go beyond 60.
It is really very very disappointing .It gets up so hot just using the device continues for 30 min. Once the temp cross 40+ it switches to 60hz. hahahah for this we have to pay a premium price.
Have already started to have 2nd thoughts for next galaxy devices with exynos. really really very annoying to use this phone these day in hot summers.
I hope to get it fixed soon. if not probably iam goning to quit this phone. very disappointed.
Display turns into yellow
Same problem here with ultra exynos after watching serval videos and using camera for 10 to 15 mins. At low brightness display turns yellowish because of heat and screen turns into 60 hz automatically. Has anyone noticed this yellowish problem?

Yeah, noticed that too. I tried turning off the 120hz and it fixed the issue.

That's strange. I have noticed 2 times yellowish display like a filter and after increasing the brightness it was OK but after reducing again it went to yellowish. Thank you for the info..

Yeah, i also noticed that the yellowish tone was more at night. During the day i didn't notice any problem

First of all why make two variants, one with snapdragon an other with exynos?
Why this discrimination?
Secondly why should I pay for a flagship and get a less than flagship experience?
I hope it is partly software fixable.
I am so gonna be very unpleasant and persistent at support. Greece here and bought s20 two days ago

It goes back to the early 90's when Samsung made a trade deal with Qualcomm. As a result of the trade deal, Samsung were allowed to use Qualcomms products but only in the markets where Samsung's products didn't compete directly with Qualcomms i.e the USA.
Nobody held a gun to your head when you bought the device. You could've just done a simple Google search and found a way to import the SD variant. Samsung aren't discriminating - it's called business.
If you dont like the Exynos variant, the OnePlus 8 is being announced on the 14th - that'll surely have the SD865.
It sucks, the only software solution I can see is throttling TBH.

Least expected from a flagship
I have a S20 and it heats up to that level that with a cover also it gets uncomfortable to hold. And this observation is with not any heavy use, very routine use like checking Gmail, watching Youtube, browsing Instagram.
I sold my one plus 5t and got this phone, very disappointed, should have waited and bought a one plus only. Samsung, if you are hearing me please fix this - if it's a hardware issue, please recall and provide a replacement, if it's a software issue please fix. But stop asking customers to go to service centres as it is not a specific problem to any phone. Most if not all exynos customers are facing it.
We been really ****ed over by samdong with latest updates the charging has gone from 1 hr to charge from 0 to 100 too 80 mins and only reason i can think of is because of the overheating that exynos is suffering so we pay nearly 1400 notes for this piece of **** and its getting worse on every update **** you samdong
