you can use the firmware that you can see here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239786
and here are the instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31828740
(skip step 1, you already have the firmware)
and ofcourse in backing up the applications and data you can use app backup and restore (downloadable via play store) and about the data or save files on the games etc, i really don't know how to back those up so you would need to start again. In sms, you could use sms back up and restore of any kind. There are so many applications in the Play store where in you could use to back up your files.
P.S: When using KDZ your phone would go to emergency mode but dont worry it is just flashing. Just wait for it to reboot.

Thanks alot! Two questions tho, is there a way to do without losing any apps and data? Also, will this ROM work on the ROGERS network as it's taken from a different country. Thanks once again.
EDIT: I just updated through LG PC Suite, it's working fine now, thanks everyone for the help!

As far as I know it would work on any network since it is an OPEN Network. And for the losing apps and data, as I said, you could use different back up and restore. You could download them on the Play Store (e.g. SMS BackUp and Restore, App Back up and restore). Though your save files on some games would be deleted. Atleast you would have a smooth buttery OS

What is debrand? i thought it was called rooting. I need the easiest and something that wont mes up my phone. easy meaning i can understand each step because i dont know some of the stuff that i have to do. cause in the youtube videos it was confusing
Id suggest you to install pc companion on the main sony ericsson site and update from there it is the safest way!
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
debrand is basically leaving the phone like if it's factory reset and if it just came out from the factory
worths cause you won't wait that much for any update as if you were using a branded fw
take a look to this http://www.youtube.com/user/bluechipj
will help you to install the newest fw
remember debranding the phone will wipe all the data so make sure you make a backup 1st

cause your fw depends on your carrier
debrand your x10 it worths
It's pretty straightforward.
- Install Sony Ericsson Update Service: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup.../detailed/updateservice/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
- Install Sony Ericsson PC Companion: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/pccompanion/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
[required since they install drivers on your computer]
- Download and extract the graphical flash tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10738467
- Download the X10a generic firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10738467 (2.1.A.0.435)
Flash.
Watch the videos for step by step.
Rooting = enabling programs to access the system (e.g. Titanium Backup, Barnacle WiFi Tether, etc.)
Debranding = removing carrier logo, apps, disabled options (2G, Unknown Sources, etc.)
Unlocking = use other carrier's SIMs
All three are separate, independent, and optional.

As far as im concerned it doesn't mess with the contract. I flashed a friends X10 and his contract is fine.

flashing is the best way to go
u dont need to debrand.
as for your contract. at&t could say u dont have warranty for rooting your phone etc. but you can always flash a stock at&t 1.6 firmware if u need to send ur phone in and they wont be able to tell u did anything.

help x10 1.6 to 2.1
Ok i need to make sure i get this right. Firts i download flash tool, then i download the x10a generic update, then i open the flash thing an click flash, then i wait until it says put phone in flash mode and then click flash again, and then after that it is done?
I have a question on this last step
IMPORTANT:
- You should always wipe userdata if you switch between Android versions (1.6 <-> 2.1). If not your phone will keep restarting all the time. This is the same for some providerbrandings even if you flash between same Android versions. So if you have this restarting problem, flash again with Wipe Userdata. If you don't want to loose your apps you have to backup them with Titanium or some other backup tool!
What does that mean or what do i have to do?
And also if i mess up does it mess up my phone?

MTP driver not installing...

Hi there,
I recently was going to install a new rom on my phone... I ended up doing a system restore on settings... And now the phone will not update the MTP driver, I tried it on another computer nothing so far. It also wiped my back up file in recovery!
I also tried going into the registry do to the "UPPERFILTERS" fix but it did not work for me!
Any suggestions on how I can somehow fix this!
Thanks.

The phone won't update the MTP driver? You must mean PC. I can only assume that you are allergic to Google searches as good solutions are easily found.
Google search: reinstall MTP driver
Try disabling WMP temporarily as it often interferes. And if necessary you can remove the previous driver install in the registry. There are often two entries, one under HKLM and another under HKCU.

That depends on what you do with Odin. If you flash a full firmware, only your user files in the /data partition will persist. Your recovery would be wiped.
And a factory reset would delete user files.

The link you provided didn't work. Could you provide me with a step by step guide. I tried two steps using the registry and watched various videos it didn't help. I am very new to this lol.
how do you remove previous driver driver?
if does not work, I got firmware files from sammobile to unbrick. Would my own back up from Philz be able to be used by odin?

The link worked in the post preview, but XDA likes to automerge posts and apparently that broke the hyperlink as well. I've fixed the link. But all you would have had to do was copy and paste the link.
That concerns me because if you don't notice /can't correct a minor formatting error in a link then your phone is at substantial risk. What I mean is that Odin is dangerous if you don't pay close attention to details. Be careful.
It's not hard to reinstall a driver. Just uninstall the old driver and realize that WMP can interfere with the reinstallation. If only a step by step guide will do, you will find lots of spoonfed guides in the Google search results.
I don't use Philz, I find TWRP to be much better. But I doubt that you could use Odin to restore a Philz backup. You'd need to reinstall Philz. Then restore your backup from recovery mode.
.
Decided to re-flash stock rom using odin with recovery file from sam-mobile website and up and running again. Thanks for help anyways!

I did check out your hyperlink lol I just googled searched it. I thought you sent a link not a google search. I went into three different step by step guides regarding the issue, it was just one of those days where basics things just didn't work out lol.
I got fed up so I did I ended up doing a full recovery I just wanted to avoid that process since I know there was a simpler method.

It won't brick anything if you follow the onscreen instructions to the point. No it doesn't matter that I gave you a UK link. If you're afraid of losing personal data (apps/photos) make a full nandroid backup and copy that to your pc, then copy all your personal photos and files to your pc. Then download and install Kies and follow the onscreen instructions. :good:

No you're not supposed to lose anything. The word "flash" in this context comes from the act of writing data to the flash based ROM chips. So to "flash" means to "write".
I told you to make a full backup in recovery and a manual backup of your files just in case you are worried. But it's always good to make backups.
Generally when flashing roms, I follow these three simple steps:
1 Make a full backup of your current rom in recovery
2 Flash new rom without wiping (aka dirtyflash), see if it works
3 Only if apps start bugging and crashing do a full wipe and flash new rom again

Updated to G900VVRU2DPF4... used it for like a day, now having a big problem. Help?

So I updated to G900VVRU2DPF4 and my phone was working fine until when I rebooted one of these times. Now I am getting 'Unfortunatly Sytem UI has stopped.' so I hit ok then the sreen goes blank with my homescreen wallpaper (and starts blinking from black to the wallpaper Except when I hit the lock button then It locks) and I can't do a thing. I recently turned off ADB on the phone so I can't do nothing there and I tried clear cache that did not work. I read that I need to erase the data on the system ui under setting, apps... but I can't even get into setting. I DO NOT WANT TO FACTORY RESET THE PHONE and erase all my files. There must be a way to fix it. I tried remote controlling via wifi (like with google's device manger and Samsung findmyphone) but now the phone won't connect to wifi for some reason it won't turn on. I am trying to sideload Samsung Good Lock because that might fix it also but I can't. I need help big time. When I connect it the the computer it kinda read it but I can't get files off the phone but it shows up and Unassuming Kies/Smart Switch does not work either. There must be a fix without loosing data. Help Please? :'-(
P.S. I tried adb sideload the PF4 updated in recovery and that did not fix it.

No I am not. Fully stocked. I had good lock installed before but I turned on finger unlock and good lock did not support finger unlock so it uninstalled.
I am kinda waiting also on sammobile to post the latest firmware. Since I heard you can update &/or reinstall the firmware without loading files like apps and stuff. (excpet if you are not on official stock) But I still would like some help.

SamFirm ONLY allows to download the latest firmware (which is PF4), and we need PD1 :good:
If you were rooted we could have just done an "adb shell" into your phone and gotten all the data off, or simply use the built-in File Manager of Safestrap or TWRP.

Yeah, My dumbass thought it was ok to remove said apps.
If all else fails, you could always use LGUP to restore your device as long as you're able to get into download mode

This thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-lg-v20-to-life-t3827732 or something else?
Download mode did work.
I downloaded LGUP and VS995 oreo KDZ flashed it got the KDZ file from https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/17008/VS99520c_01_1110_ARB00.kdz if anyone is interested. So that being said don't debloat or remove apps unless you know what you're doing and you also have backups made for your phone.
