Hello all,
I have a question regarding my Xperia Z.
I would like to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 (Stable) for my Xperia Z but I do see some various kinds of methods.
1. By using fastboot (Don't know exactely what it does).
2. By using a custom recovery.
Now, my phone is rooted and I do have a custom recovery.
Can I flash Cyanogenmod without unlocking my bootloader? (I don't want to loose Bravia engine and Stamina mode) when I ever decide to go back to stock.
From what I understand, fastboot will flash the CM kernel (not possible with a locked bootloader) while the custom recovery only installs a rom without a kernel.
Does it mean that I will have the stock kernel but with CM rom on it?
A couple of questions comes to mind in total:
- Can I flash CM using custom recovery?
- How to return to stock rom if ever needed (Will i loose my Bravia Engine -> DRM keys)?
- How to update the kernel to a new stock kernel if needed while running CM?
Kind regards,
You can't. You need to unlock your bootloader in order to flash the cm kernel.

But that does mean that I'll loose my DRM keys forever?
I don't want to lose them just in case I need to restore.
And if I unlock my bootloader, how do I exactely flash CM?
Kind regards

Before unlocking, you can save your DRM keys with this method.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the process then the following:
1. Root phone without unlocking bootloader.
2. Install CMW
3. Backup DRM keys.
4. Take Nandroid backup.
5. Save the files of the backups (3 & 4) in a safe location.
6. Unlock bootloader.
7. Flash CM.
For a restore:
1. Reflash stock rom.
2. Restore nandroid backup.
3. Restore backup of DRM keys.
Can you confirm that this process is correct, because I really want to install CM.
Is there a list somewhere (cannot find it on the official CM website) that lists me what kind of bugs there are in a specific CM version (what is not working)?
Kind regards,
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't at least AOKP and ParanoidAndroid developed for locked bootloaders on other phones? If so, technically it should be possible with our Z, right?

I doubt it, but if they were they won't have been a true port.
Honestly, i don't understand the DRM thing. It's not like you lose important features. If you can unlock your bootloader, then do it. Not doing it would be like buying a Ferrari just for your Garage.

Just because they're not important to you doesn't mean they're not to others, and even if I could unlock I'd probably still be holding off in the hope that someone comes up with an S1Tool that allows Sim and Bootloader unlocking for late 2012, 2013 Xperias.

There are only 2 bugs that I know of: the screen takes 1.5 seconds to wake up after pressing the power button, loudspeaker in calls doesn't work.
I've also heard that hdmi out is broken but I haven't tried.
I'm running Cyanogenmod personally and it's great.

Can you tell me what the difference is between the official Get.cm repo and the freeXperia project.
After that I can install my version of CM.
Thanks for clearing this out.

No real difference. FXP builds are released weekly while official builds are obviously released daily. The same code gets pushed to both builds afaik

Nightlies are just daily code changes to the cyanogenmod rom. As the coding changes daily, you may experience improvements or even bugs.
Okies I get it. So what's the best nightly that I should use now? And just to ask, how do you all make roms? I would like to learn to make one.
There is no best nightly. just try one and if you want to keep it, keep it. if you want to try a new nightly, just flash it over the old one, no need to do a full wipe. make sure you do a nandroid backup in case.

Some nightlies are known to bootloop. I would suggest you use the latest as on today (#49). Not sure if it is the best but I have flashed it with no problems though.
Then may I know how to make a rom? Any guide to making one?

In some cases (software teams) "Nightlies" are just automaticaly generated builds every night reflecting the submitted code changes.
The checksums are always different because very often the build date / time and number is calculated, too. (means, it could be "almost" the same code)
Hi! I just want to ask if its possible to make a fully working CM7? The new Gingerbread is out so all the sources are avilable. Or not? The current CM7's have no camera and a few bugs. The official GB have camera and all...
Is this possible for now or have we to wait until GB x10 is rooted? It would be great to have a great CM7 with all working!
Thx! Ákos
I am also searching for this

It should work with the sources from the prerooted ROMs, just a matter of time for someone to port this over. The sources were released a few days back, so a little bit of patience is in order...

Sorry i am a noob.
And i just wanted to know what is a clean rom
and what are the benefits.
Also what is cyanogenmod.
Thank you!!
Is a clean rom like no benfits or something???
Stock?
Well you could say 'a clean ROM' is an unedited version of an operating system provided by a manufacturer/company (so, it's the ROM that you get when you buy a phone). CyanogenMod is an 'aftermarket firmware'. So it's a ROM that needs to be flashed (installed) after purchasing a device. By 'ROM', meaning the actual operating system. Clean ROMs can also mean the original operating system from sources or other phones, flashed to another device (such as the LG GT540).
A clean ROM doesn't always mean no benefits. It is minimalistic in some aspects and not filled with mods/apps. They could also be sometime more stable (e.g. no crashes).
Is AOSP considered a "clean rom"? Sorry for the noob question.

yes something like that. for our phone, cyanogenmod is ported from other phones as our phone is not supported. but aosp rom is not ported but taken from google so it makes it "clean"

AOSP means Android Open Source Project .

No, its from source.
I always thought a clean rom was the roms lg officially releases as there built specifically for the phones hardware etc
and i thought cyanogenmod aosp etc where dirty so to speak because they use googles open source or ports etc meaning that theres some amount of hacking porting involved in some aspect or use of drivers that do the job but are not meant for the hardware so say if we get 2.6.35 kernel working someone could release an aosp from source but it wouldnt be classed as clean because of ported hacked kernel ?
Okay. I think i get it now. Still having a hard time getting used to all these terms. So if AOSP is considered "clean" then is there a difference in performance with Cyanogen?
Btw i also read here somewhere that a few devs are trying to port the . 35 kernel. Is that still active?

Also another question what is a fastboot rom??
Are there other types of roms as well??
For e.g. i don't really know any!!!
THANKS!!!!
Fastboot
A fastboot ROM is a ROM containing fastboot. So you can flash ROMs using fastboot. Hold the camera button when you see the LG logo while turning on the device. If you see a dark blank screen, that means you have fastboot. You need drivers and the fastboot files to flash ROMs, so be careful.
"a pure google experience"
Clean roms known as a ASOP are built of from scratch. This means no cyanogenMod or such tweak modifications has been added or applied during process.

You'll likely receive a lot of flak over re-hosting/posting stuff as you've seen thus far, but if you're offering something you've re-worked in any way(which is what I understand you're doing) then I'd stick with just that and link to other threads in your OP if necessary.
If you compiled from CM10 source here we have CM10 kernel for Captivate (no datadata partition).
This is very interesting.
Thank you very much: if compiling went well this is really an important step for JB on Cappy and now we can run also official Pawitp builds.

I'm a few days with cedric, waiting to test oreo roms, I'm on crdroid until new buids come out
Even tho its not on ROMs page I'm slightly annoyed , credit is being taken from where it shouldn't , Soham has done all the hard work for the bring up so just be patient he will release , none of these devs unless they have made there tree!
