[Q] How to Completely Erase Everything?

I want to do this as more of a starting new kind of thing. I know you can clear the sd cards and factory reset, but does that truly erase everything? And i understand theres also some options to clear delvik cache and others in CWM. Are these caches erased w/ factory reset? thx brah

yeah ive used odin a bunch to flash eugenes roms and stock rom if i get a soft brick. But weird thing is it doesnt wipe my internal sd. BTW this ISNT like a serious issue and i NEED to erase everything...but ive flashed so many roms over each other i thought it would be good to give my phone a breath of fresh air. haha

okay so just about an hour ago i was trying to install the 2825 radio. i flashed it onto the phone in recovery mode and now my phone wont go past the boot screen. (tmobile g1) i can still get to recovery and fastboot and all of that but even when i tried to restore it, it still wont go past the boot screen!!!!! what did i do wrong, and is there any hope for me?? please help!

Hopefully you will not accomplish your objective. "Everything" includes the Primary Boot Loader, in which case your phone will be permanently bricked, for all intents and purposes.
You will not be able to access the phone by any means other than an expensive tester after you delete USB drivers from the phone.

To erase everything...you need to go settings.phone & sdcard.umount...under phone storage.format....it will mount back on its own

Will this hurt anything if I do this while running a custom rom? Just wondering.

you'll lose everything on the rom including apps that the dev added. only thing you wont lose is stock apps, but no it shouldnt matter what rom your running.

[Solved]Factory Data Reset.

Here's the deal. I want to factory reset my nexus so I can remove the unlock pin. Question is I can't seem to really get an answer. If I do the factory data reset from the menu will I lose my data from the emulated SD card. According to the picture. I will, but I looked this up and according to some website and other xda members. I won't. Since I've only had this phone for about a month now and this is the first phone that I've had with a SD slot. I honestly don't know what will happen if I hit that reset button.

Back up your storage to a computer and see what happens. They only way I've been able to erase my data was formatting in recovery or locking then unlocking the bootloader.

Yes a factory reset will wipe all user data on the phone if done from settings/backup and restore/reset device. Backup files first.

The nexus 4 doesn't have an SD card slot. You will lose all data unless you've made a backup in recovery or on your computer. And yes, it will wipe the /sdcard folder.

But you know, i have done factory resets, wiped dalvic nd cache and unlocking bootloader but evrytime i so that, the files in my internal sd card were all still there and never was deleted.
So im quite confused as well..

If you factory reset in stock recovery it wipes the lot

Yeah this is what I mean. I keep on getting different answers.
But I'll just back things up on a PC and then attempt to factory reset.

Unlocking the bootloader and rebooting will wipe everything
Unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery then wipe cache and reboot will not wipe SD context

Just go to security settings and choose a different lock style !!! Unless you have forgot your pin ??
What recovery are you using ?
I have no issues doing.........
Go to settings and backup and reset option, choose the factory data reset.
Now this will wipe your user data and reset your ROM to how it was originally. This does NOT touch your emulated sdcard partition. Basically it resets the ROM and removes all user apps etc.
You can always use TB to back up all user apps 1st then just restore again after. ( obviously you will have to install TB again before you can restore but all data will remain on your " sdcard".

Mmmmm actually I am using twrp so maybe I got mistaken as I don't know how it handles on a stock recovery as it does boot into twrp briefly when I do this.
I've done this many times and never lost my sdcard files though.

Do you have an exchange account connected to your phone? Like an outlook email from work or something? A pw is required if you have that connected.

I have my other gmail synced on the stock email app. Uhm I'll try to delete my accounts but as you see in the last page. The picture I posted. "No Pin" is greyed out. Its odd. Never had this happen to me.

Well I'm not sure how the system handles a factory data reset with cwm but I know for sure that using the factory data reset from phone settings does not wipe your internal "SD card" when using twrp. Now be aware I'm not referring to any wipes from recovery,its the wipe from the phone settings in backup and reset.

Okay thanks guys for all the help! I think this thread is done. I flashed TWRP recovery and I Factory Reset in there and it wiped everything that I needed. I got rid of the lock screen and I also found out that TWRP is a pretty amazing recovery. In the end I kept all my data. Just restored apps by Titanium BackUp. Thanks!:thumbup:

reset to factory

I did the twrp method of rooting and would like to know show to get my system back to factory. also how would I go about getting my system to a fresh state of root? would using the twrp recovery factory reset just basically reset my system back to a fresh root state? I applied a bunch of tweaks and my system is acting funny. thanks for the help

A factory reset will NOT cause you to lose root.

Using googles factory images you can do a full reset to stock including system. Its like a new device except it doesn't change the bootloader status.

I don't think Google has released factory images yet (for this model) on the developer website. They weren't there last time I checked.

Those will get you to the equivalent of or close to factory (one of them is pre-rooted), which may be all the OP wants to do.
However they aren't technically Google's factory images.

Best Toolkit?

Hey guys,
I see alot of toolkits around like N-Cry and Wkip or something.
Now, Im still unrooted and locked.
What is the best toolkit to unlock my bootloader and flash twrp?
Also, I don't want to lose any data while unlocking my bootloader.

The best toolkit is to not use a toolkit at all. Learn how to do it yourself, it's not difficult and will pay off in the end since you'll know how to use fast boot.
You cant unlock your bootloader without losing data, it's a part of the process and is there for security purposes.

It is actually possible to unlock the bootloader without having everything wiped. You need to flash a custom recovery right after unlocking, without rebooting in between. Then you boot into the recovery, wipe the cache, and boot back into android and everything should be left untouched.

A good guide to unlocking and rooting your Nexus 4 is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654. Don't forget Chromium's advise to flash a custom recovery then boot into recovery and wipe the cache before rebooting to preserve your data. I would also recommend copying all data from the Nexus' internal storage to your computer as a backup before rooting.

Take your battery out, then re-enter recovery, clear cache and reboot. If it doesn't work, simply reflash via Odin to correct it.

In future, read a lot more, or don't mess around with your device. The amount of people that go on about "puking, Sick etc" is unreal. If you don't know what you are doing. don't do it. It's that simple.
