So I search around and I can get a clear answer on some of my questions so I am hoping I can get some clairity. Part of this stems from not having a Canadian specific section so alot of the info doesnt directly relate.
So the Canadian S4's come with a unlocked bootloader? I been reading that they do however I have seen 2 threads (one not here on here) that state it is locked. Any clear answer on here?
Also this means that flashing a custom recovery should be easier if it is unlocked correct?
If I need to go back to stock say for warranty, its as simple as flashing the stock backup that I would have done (nandroid) then unrooting? This shouldnt have the Triangle counter as (if its confirmed that it is unlocked) it shouldnt have any issue correct?
Hope someone can give me some CLEAR indication as I dont have a ATT S4 but a Canadian S4.
THANKS.
It's unlocked so you can flash easily. I've been running CM10.1 for a while.
You can also ODIN back to stock easily (which will remove the recovery as well as the MODIFIED status).

Hello everyone,
Before I continue... I currently have a Galaxy SII Skyrocket that I've flashed several times using Odin and have rooted in order to reset the custom ROM counter to 0, followed by flashing back to official 4.2.2 via the firmware available on Sammobile. Not saying I'm a technical expert, but if there's instructions on how to do it, I can follow.
My ATT contract is up for upgrade eligibility in the middle of June, and will be ordering the Galaxy S4 when the time comes. I understand the I337 and I9505 are basically the same device, so I9505 firmware can be flashed onto the I337. I've also found the simple instructions on how to unlock your device from AT&T's network.
My question is, is there an available firmware that is stock Android 4.2.2 (no AT&T bloatware or stuff that didn't originally come from Android), basically what will come with the unlocked Galaxy S4 that will be available from Google via the Play Store, that is official (like ROMs found via Sammobile) that can be flashed to the I337 without tripping the custom ROM counter or requiring the device to be rooted? I don't even care if the phone is unlocked... I'll be using it through AT&T's network. I just don't want what Google didn't originally intended Android 4.2.2 to contain on my device.
And if not, which I assume is the answer, is it safe to assume the firmware that will come on the unlocked S4 from Google will be flashable onto the I337 with the abovementioned terms?
I apologize in advance if there is a thread that already answers this question.
Thanks,
Brett
Im looking for sane thing. A base 4.2.2 google goodness without TW, bloatware etc.

It's safe to assume we will be able to flash the Google edition rom but it hasn't been confirmed. Right now the main worry of anyone who doesn't currently own an S4 is a future update that patches Dans Loki exploit. I'm far, far from a dev but I do stalk the R&D thread Adam created about unlocking the bootloader permanently, and I don't see much activity. I don't really know how far they've come or how close they are, and I've got enough common sense to not bug them or ask for eta's.

When some devs get a hold of the google os, I am sure they will port it over for us. I see no reason why we will not be able to run that rom.
So there is an interesting issue I have uncovered...
I am trying to reset an AT&T Galaxy S4 back to stock for warranty purposes, and
need to use the Triangle Away app to reset the custom flash counter.
My problem is that for the AT&T GS4, Triangle Away needs an unlocked bootloader.
So my question to you is, can I use a work around like Loki to use Triangle Away, or is there NO WAY to reset the
custom counter on the phone (currently) because it is an AT&T GS4?
Has anyone attempted this? I have searched high and low and all I can glean is that I will indeed need an unlocked bootloader to
avoid bricking the phone, and the closest we've come is Loki.
please don't ask questions in any sections other than the Q&A
It should not need an unlocked bootloader
one quick google and found xda thraed where member used it on i337
Hello all. I just got a new Galaxy S4 (i337m) and I hate the stock firmware on it. I want to install something custom, however the custom roms require a certain bootloader that I do not have. I have searched for if / how I can change my bootloader but none of the forum posts I have found seem to be related to my specific phone so I'm posting this to find out about my specific phone. I believe it is a locked Fido phone. I used the ADB shell to check the bootloader version and it is not the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader I need to have for the roms Im interested in. Mine was something like CUVL. I can verify later when I get home. However, can I change my bootloader? If so, are there any instructions for this specific phone? My goal for this phone is a light weight / vanilla version of 5.1.1 Lollipop, rooted. Thanks.
If it's an actual i337m the bootloader is already unlocked... I'm a bit rusty though. I've moved on to a G4, and dumped most of my S4 knowledge with it.

How can I tell if it is unlocked? If it is unlocked, does that mean I can install a different bootloader?
I have Samsung Galaxy s4
Model is i9500
But when I go to download mode, I see modem number to sch-i545, which is from Verizon. I want to root my phone and also want to download stock rom or flash custom rom but I don't know which rom to download because I'm confused of which model is correct. My phone has 4G LTE and CDMA. I know i9500 does not support 4G LTE but the model number is i9500 and baseband I9500UBUHOE1. Hope someone cam help me out. Thank you
The correct model # can be found in download mode; therefore, your phone is a Verizon phone with a locked bootloader.

How can I unlock?
Can't be unlocked as far as I know.
Here's a thread about unlocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500826
I want to root and install custom rom, you have thread for that?
You may be able to root but no custom Roms based on cm or aosp.
More information about your device is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon . In short, unless your device has an early bootloader that would allow modification, there is no way to unlock the bootloader, no way to install a custom ROM, and no way to even root the device.
Return this device and get something else.
could this phone have a locked bootloader AND still have other firmware trying to disguise it at the same time ?
No. It's likely his bootloader is unlocked, but he needs to head to the Verizon S4 forums to be sure. But when it comes to frankenphones, my instant response is to return the phone if possible. Frankenphones are a PITA to deal with.

agreed on that, if nothing else it's deception by the vendor/seller
Hello guys, I'm posting this for first time.
My girlfriend is having a Samsung S5 from AT&T and I want to root it as she told me system apps from AT&T are taking too much space on her phone and so I was thinking can I flash any custom rom on it?
As I see the AT&T thread separate, I want to ask some things
Does Network provider has to do something with it ?
I can flash custom rom on her phone or not?
And same odin thing works ? Like unlocking bootloader and fishing custom recovery
I have never rooted any Samsung phone ever
I'm having a oneplus and HTC.
If anyone can tell me what all do I need to do, I would appreciate it a lot .
Att version has locked bootloader .... Root is possible and there a few roms but they are all based off the stock rom just tweaked a bit ...

You should consider two things:
1. ATT phone may be sim-locked (locked to their network), but it has nothing to do with custom firmware. This problem may be solved more or less easily.
2. ATT phone (SM-G900A) does have a locked bootloader. This is a real problem.
That's why you're limited to touchwiz-based ROMs and stock kernels.
This means, in it's turn, that you cannot have root on 6.0 and above, you cannot have custom recovery, LOS, etc.
If it was my device and I was going to use it as a smartphone (to communicate with others) on a GSM network, I'd install this ROM in unrooted variant and the latest firmware (boot, modem, kernel).

It's been over 2 years for her phone, unlocking bootloader won't be an issue ( we can unlock it right?) . And she will be using AT&T only because she is using family plan.
If you dare saying the real problem is locked bootloader then we can just unlock it , or I understood it wrong

I believe that the following thread may help you out with this. It's S5 AT&T device specific.
