Hello!
I'm just wondering If anyone has tried the octacore version of the S4 on Mobilicity or Wind mobile (aws 1700/2100 bands)? I'm currently in Asia, Anne think it'd be super cool to pick up one of the international octacore versions here, but since my preferred carrier back home (in Canada) is Mobilicity, I just wanna make sure it'll work first. I've tried googling to see if anyone has tried it before, but I wasn't able to find anything.
If anyone has tried it, or knows if it'll work, I'd really appreciate your help!
Thanks so much =)

i popped in my inactive wind sim and it shows wind home when i search for mobile networks but i am not sure as it was inactive
According to the specs posted at gsmarena (http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9500_galaxy_s4-5125.php), the i9500 doesn't support AWS. You would be stuck with 2G EDGE data

Thank you for your help. Did the roaming icon show up at all? I saw on the wiki that it's not supposed to work.
Can AWS be enabled on s4 i9500 - please help guys.
Hi,
I have a wind sim (Canada), it doesn't work on my S4 i9500 which i bought from UAE. Is there a way AWS frequencies can be enabled on this phone? I am desperately looking for a work around. To me, XDA is my only hope left.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks.

did you ever get this to work? i have this phone and need to get it to work with wind... not sure if there is a solution other than just use it with wifi.

Hello everyone,
I am really confused about different versions of Galaxy S4 and their compatibility with Wind mobile in Canada.
As far as I know, there are i9500, i9505 and i377 variants.
I was looking forward to buy the i9505 model but I'm not sure if it is compatible with Wind mobile network. (Right now I am outside of Canada for a while so getting a phone in a duty free shop makes sense.)
Does anyone know if i377 or any other variants of Galaxy S4 is compatible with Wind mobile?
If it matters, right now I have a T999V (galaxy S3) which works fine with Wind's network.
Thanks in advance

The GT-i9500 uses the exynos octa core cpu and isn't available in North America because it doesn't support LTE here.
The GT-i9505 is the international S4 that uses the qualcomm quadcore cpu which is marketed in the USA as i377 (at&t) and i377m (bell/rogers/telus) in Canada. These 2 variants don't support AWS bands out of the box, but users have shown a way to enable that on these phones.
There is also another variant of the i9505 marketed as SGH-M919 for T-Mobile in USA and SGH-M919V for Wind/Videotron in Canada. These support AWS bands out of the box and work perfectly well on all North American providers such as At&t, Rogers, Bell, Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile, etc.
Hope this helps your dilemma!

Thank you for your elaboration.
In other words, if I went and bought an SGS 4 with model number i9505, it wouldn't work on -say- Wind mobile out of the box? Should I strictly go for M919? Or are they all the same i9505 hardware only different radios? This "radio": are we referring to the baseband firmware or the actual circuitry inside the phone itself?
Sorry for asking again but I'm trying to clear up the confusion.
Thank you very much in advance

1) All GT-i9505 variants have the same hardware which includes the radio chip, cpu, ram etc.
2) The software part (modem) that controls the radio module is different in the variants which is why some of the users were able to 'activate' AWS band support on the At&t/Rogers/Bell S4 by flashing the appropriate modem/rom.
3) I believe if you purchase the GT-i9505 it will still work on Wind Mobile and the other carriers. But keep in mind that you may or may not be able to connect to LTE or lose reception in some areas where they only run the network on a respective band.
This is where you have to do your homework. Go to Wind Mobile's website and see what bands they use & then cross reference them with the GT-i9505 supported bands.
After you do that yourself and are fairly confident that the phone should work. I'd suggest that you call up Wind mobile and ask them to ensure if that model will work on Wind completely. Just a heads up, you may not get the most knowledgeable tech on your first try...so you may have to try again.
If you just really want that model from the duty free, just get it! I'm sure one of the more advanced users here will be able to point out what needs to be tweaked for it run flawlessly on whatever network.

Now that clears everything up
bought the GT i9500
I bought the GT i9500 galaxy s4 when I was on vacation outside Canada.
Now I'm back here and cannot connect to wind network.. It always goes on roaming :crying:
Please someone let me know what to do with my phone. Can I sell it to someone using Rogers/Bell/Telus? as my friend has a rogers sim card and its working on my phone
Also would be thankful if someone could tell me what could I do to make wind work on my phone.
I had the simcard cut by the phoneseller when I bought it so I could use it when I come back here. Could that be the problem? I mean, would it work if I bought a new small sim card from Wind?
No it won't work.I
I got a phone UK from 3 network and it didn't work and after lots of research I found that it is missing the AWS mode. Mine also works with Rogers, Telus and Bell but not Wind mobile. The store just cut my cimcar for $5 and did not work.
I was reading that there is a ROM or firmware that should be updated.
good luck and let me know if you fixed it.
Samsung Galaxy S4 on Wind Mobile
Were you able to get this working on WIND Mobile? I am in the same predicament, and need to get this working but it just keeps roaming. Wonder if there is a ROM that can be flashed to support the AWS frequency for WIND.

Hey everyone!
I purchased an S4 yesterday from a guy on Craigslist. This S4 does not have any type of branding on it at all, so my guess is that it is the international unlocked S4. The About Phone section says it is a GT-I9500, baseband version is I9500XXUAMDK.
I took it to MetroPCS today (which ride off of T-Mobile towers) and activated the device onto their network. However, I am stuck on EDGE!!
I do not know what to do. It has been quite some time since I have been working with Android phones. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it? Baseband version and model number are legit ... this is the international exynos variant s4
Also according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_frequencies
MetroPCS uses CDMA/EVDO tech for data ... while the i9500 which u have supports only gsm bands and HSPA+ for data ...
That's why u are stuck on edge/2g

Yeah, I ran a test with an app in the play store that detects. It has less than 1GB of RAM and only 720p video. The camera quality kinda sucks too.
MetroPCS teamed with T-Mobile, so they should be on HSPA+ now. That is why I took the "S4" there.
Suggestion

Sorry to hear about the fake s4.
I hope you didn't pay exorbitantly
It would be nice if you could post a few pictures of the fake s4 and its software ( details and Ui )
For my curiosity and to help other people find out fakes.
Thanks.
Hi all.
I originally purchased my Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 in the UK where I was using it on LTE with absolutely no problems.
One thing led to another and I'm now living in Canada, and using my i9505 on the Bell/Virgin network. The phone connects to the 3G network just fine, but does not connect to Bells LTE network here.
Having done some research, I'm led to believe that this is due to the fact that the i9505 does not support the 1700MHz network for LTE, although the similar i337 model does.
I've read a number of topics that state it may/may not be possible to unlock this banding on the i9505, but have not been able to find any conclusive answer on whether it's possible, and if so, how to actually do this.
Any help or suggestions anyone might have would be incredibly appreciated, as I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering this.
Thanks in advance!
Basically Ive had the phone for over a month now and the connection issues have been constant. The carrier I use is Straight Talk. I got a new SIM card. Ive tried every APN setting it seems. And I cannot get any help. Did I plainly just mess up and by the wrong version of the phone I needed?

Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Should have gone for 9005.
When It is on GSM only mode I only get EDGE speed, and when I switch to either WCDMA/GSM or WDCMA only mode, I do get H+ but its not reliable and I frequently end up in emergency calls only mode and am frequently resending messages. What model should I get for the best results with Straight Talk does anyone know?

You need the N900A (AT&T) or the N900T (T-Mobile). GSM Mode means 2.5G (EDGE) only. WCDMA Mode means H+ (3G) only.
You can also try the N9005 if you're into tinkering and whatnot.
Your current phone most likely does not support the recommended 'fast' bands that are on US Carriers.

Do you know which one would be the best one to get? I'm into rooting and flashing Roms, so based on that Im guessing the N9005, but arent there different carrier models of that phone as well /: basically I dont want to make the same mistake

N9005 is most used internationally so more devs support this device. But the N900T also works too.
Not the N900A if you care about ROMs.

Okay then I'll pass on the N900A. Are there specific carrier branded N9005s? or are they all the same and unlocked. Sorry for all the questions. Also I barely figured out how to "thank" you >.<-

Yeah there are, and there are specific models of N9005 too with a different partition structure (Hong Kong 16GB)
You're going to have to find an N9005 not from Hong Kong just in case, even though they also sell the international 32gb version as well, and that is already unlocked SIM wise and region wise.
Also, if you come from the states, make sure the bands are supported by your phone. People have bought the n9005 from America to find the LTE bands don't work in Europe..
Hi Friends,
I'm on the Canadian side. Bought the phone with Wind Mobile, had to activate with their SIM, but then unlocked it with an unlocking code Wind provided like two hours after.
I'm now on Telus network, but the phone does not show LTE. I do recall it showing 4G/LTE when I was using the Wind sim.
Anyone have any solutions? Suggestions?
Anyone? Many thanks

Yes Telus has LTE. Wind doesn't. I'm using the same SIM card I used on the iphone 6, and the iphone 6 displays LTE no problem with this SIM.
I don't think I have mobile data toggle.

Sure thing! You need to go in your dealer and dial *#272*(insert imei)# this will take you to the csc page. If you don't know what your imei is dial *#06# and write it down. Make sure you write down the first 15 digits as it might give you 2 extra. (after a dash of course)
Once you're in there you should see your csc as GLW I think that's the wind one. If what you want is Telus then select tls.
If it's already tls leave it. That's won't resolve your issue.
***Warning***
This will wipe your device
Hope that works for you bud

Your phone supports LTE+. All Canadian Galaxy s7 edge models are same regardless of carrier and contain all network bands offered by the respective carriers. I believe Roger's offers 4g if I'm not mistaken which is quite similar to LTE+. If you want LTE+ just change your CSC to BMC and put in a bell Sim card as long as your phone is unlocked. Then u will get LTE+.
