I have my 9505 and since I have had it, the biggest frustration I've had is the stupid Samsung lockscreen.
I don't understand why text message notification previews can't be clicked on to open, but I can open by pulling down or swiping up from the short cut for text message on the botton of the screen. Also there is a resizable white box that I don't understand the purpose of.
All I want is a pull down bar that INSTANTLY unlocks my phone (No animation, no delays, no fades!).
Anyone know if Samsung has a fix pending or if I need to resort to third party options? I don't have root yet, and want to delay that as long as possible.
To come directly to an unread message you click on the "New Message" and then samsung will highlight an area where you simply unlock your device. Then you will come directly to the message.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean. I think we might be talking about different thing. On my lockscreen if I get a new txt message, I can't just click on the message to open it. It's odd. If I swipe right or left strange things happen too.

that pretty much sums it up... press the message, then unlock as normal and it'll take you to the message

With android 4.2 Google introduced widgets on lockscreen. The white box that appears when you drag on the lockscreen is for cusomize the widgets. It took a while to understand that for me too. But try simply press one time at the "New Message" on your lockscreen and then simply unlock in the highlighted area.

during my one month hd2 usage i havent found any annoying issues with it, however there is one issue that i would like to have - when sms/reminder is arriving it would be great to have it on screen straight away like in other phones - is it possible somehow?
Ah yes, +1, that small icon at the top is not enough :S
settings - menu - all settings - sounds and notifications - notifications tab - scroll down events to 'message:new message' - tick display message on screen

maybe i am old fashioned, but on my old iphone, se w910i each message that comes in popup as preview on the home screen - this is the problem
Give it a try, send yourself a message, then jump to the home page. Its not a problem at all, and doesn't look out of place against the manila skin.
*update* oh right, i just re-read what the OP wants and this is slightly different, this just shows the message, it doesn't access it (so you can't reply directly)
Sorry for the skewed title.
I have this minor problem. Whenever there is a new sms and when I open the the sms( let's say from the lockscreen which provide the shortcut option to view the unread sms using manilla), it doesn't direct me to the unread sms.
Most of the time it will direct me to the 2nd sms or maybe 3rd sms.
the qn is ; am I the only one having this problem? And how do I solve it?
Yeah it's showing the last message you looked at...very annoying
Haha, so i'm not the only one...it's irritating as hell.
All the previous HTc phones knows how to go to the newest, now sure why in HD2, this is NOT done.
Also, all my previous HTC phones, on the main page, you can actually dismiss, mark as read or delete the message without opening it...but in the HD2..all you can do is HIDE.....super troublesome this HTC messages.and you can't disable it! I hope HTC updates it..this is the biggest pain in the HD2..
yeah... so much for productivity

from the lock screen... tap the slide bar, drag the new bar off the screen and you arrive at your new message.
lakeland
I tried your suggestion but it doesnt seem to be working. I drag the sms bar as far over as I can after tapping the slider and I still arrive at the last viewed message not the new one.....any more help?
Also is there not a cab file to make the sms slider go directly to all messages where the new sms can just be replied. Instead of having to go to the navigation tab and then clicking the sms and then replying. It seems there must be a fix for both of these problems.
currently when i get an sms i have to:
-press a hard key
-unlock the slider
-press the message tab
-then when i get to messages it isn't set to the latest message it is set to the last message checkeds
-then i have to scroll to message 1
coming from android that is a lot of button presses. in android you could actually read the first couple of lines from the lockscreen. is there a way for me to reduce the button presses?
Install S2U2.
S2U2 will be able to display the message on the screen (while the phone remains locked).
Do you have win6.5 lock enabled? when you get a message it should have a message slider and if you slide that it will automatically take you to the sms tab (or email tab if you got an email or missed call tab if you got a missed call or.....)
Set titanium as home screen then after unlock hit text.
Or you could:
-press a hard key
-tap the slider
-unlock the new slider which pops up
should take you directly to your new message.

this takes me to the messages tab, but it does not take me to the latest message. it takes me to the last message i checked when i was in that tab so i still have to scroll once.
i will check out that s2u2 and report back.
ok so i downloaded s2u2 and love the functionality of it. i hate the fact that it looks like iphone though i wish it were more original looking. or even the same but a different colorway, especially in the message bubble that pops up. but hey, it was free and works great so thanks for suggesting it.
much better than the stock lock screen for sure!

There is a disturbing amount of themes for S2U2, if you don't like the stock one (which does mimic the iphone alot) you should look at the other ones.

You just click the slider instead of sliding it. It obviously only works if there's something to show you.

So I understand, after a missed call, email sms etc. do you see a number on the unlock slider? If so, and you tap the unlock slider, you should see one or more notification sliders pop down. Are those not appearing? If that's the case, have you ever installed anything intended to modify the lockscreen in any way?

Yes I have (See screenie), but even before this change I've not had the other icons come up. I've always wondered how I could get them to show up since having the phone.
I'm on Orange network (UK) and on official 1.66 rom.
Thanks for your help.

Still nothing, that screenie was taken after tapping
It's not important, it would just be nice.
well it is displaying right. normally you would just touch the slider instead of sliding it and a secondary slider would appear, but if that is not happening for you i don't know where in the settings to enable/disable it.

I can't imagine why it's not working. I've attached a cab with the original lockscreen files. You may try installing it and see if that works. Outside of that, you may have a reg setting inadvertantly changed somewhere.
@methodz: Are you still using S2U2? If not, or you go back to the oem LS, I think we can take your original question one step further (literally). Not sure if you've seen this, but you can change the commmand of the notification slider to go directly to your email inbox instead of the manila tab, or have the sllider actually call your voicemail directly instead of taking you to the dialpad. I dunno about sms as I haven't tried it, but either way it may worth looking at the bottom of this post here by Da_G: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4268138&postcount=3. It will require a tad of registry editing, but for me it's worth it. Less steps to get to things.
When responding to sms messages I find that as I am typing the message the words are appearing as desired but then sometimes the text stops appearing in the message mid way through as I continue to type and the previous message is highlighted for no reason that I can understand. I then tap on the message window where I am writing and everything that I typed, which was not being displayed is there. Annoying, happens frequently.
i second that motion...
happens to me 2, btw do you have the tweak where there is a send button above the insert file option?
thought it might be that?
Nope, I don't have that tweak.

For the problem regarding the message disappearing then reappearing if you tap on the input area i have no clue why is that so and wondering is there a fix for that, or probably custom roms do not have that problem.
However, if you want to prevent the problem of "previous message is highlighted for no reason.." i suggest each time you reply to a message in HTC Sense, use the right softkey and choose reply, the previous message is probably highlighted because you tap on the actual message and start replying from there, as you chose to enter the messaging client to view that message and the HTC MESSAGING CLIENT takes time to load all the messages from that contact, it will highlight that particular/latest message after loading all the previous messages associated with the contact hence the highlight interrupting your reply.
P.S sorry for my lengthy answer
That doesn't solve the problem as that option is not available in the message string view.
Yeah, i experience this problem too
i'm using 1.66 WWE ROM and im pretty sure its just on 1.66
Everyone using this ROM experiences it if you're in Conversation mode and select the text to reply..
Basically if you have a lot of messages with 1 person, the HD2 is loading the messages WHILE you're typing, and once its done loading, it will highlight the previous message and thats where your cursor disappears..
i'm still looking for a solution to this too
i'm curious if this appears on cooked ROMs like Duttys..
cause if it doesnt, i would probably think of upgrading haha
I got a similar issue, although it's not just SMS, but emails too. Another guy reported the same: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6283141&postcount=2. Waht's going on suddenly?

The reply option is available when you go under menu>reply under the messaging preview in SENSE. For the highlight option, haven't found a solution to that either!

To enable graphic send icon button in HTC Messaging
The following registry tweak adds a graphic send button above the paperclip button. It also changes the 'send' left soft key to a 'back' soft key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\LSK_Send_Msg
Change from 1 to 0.

Ah-ha! Sorry. I misunderstood.
I'm afraid I can't shed much light on the problem. I have the same issue but only very occasionally. Every now and again it happens but not consistently. I haven't been able to pin down a cause.
Me neither - I cannot say why sometimes it does it and other times it does not when operating the phone in the same fashion.
You guys need to log this with customer services so that they can get onto it for the forthcoming firmware update. This phone is not that new anymore and there will probably only be the odd software update coming in future.
I always just hide the keyboard and reopen it.

OK, from where you are sat this is an 'endearing characteristic' of your phone and from where the rest of us are sat it's a bug.
Really common bug, reported here also:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585055
Please report it to HTC, it might get fixed then!

Never said it wasn't a bug, I just offered a simple fix. The same thing happens to me as well.
That's not a fix as it does not prevent the problem from reoccurring, it only remedies the symptom.
If this is affecting you, you need to report it to HTC.

Already reported. You really ought to learn some manners.
Hi,
I am hoping that you could help me with these.
The first is a minor issue while the second is really starting to annoy me.
When I get a new SMS/text message, the normal yellow envelope appears in the notification bar. I drag down the notification bar and read the text message. However, if I just press the menu key to exit the messaging application, the yellow envelope stays there. However, if I exit out using the back key, the yellow envelope disappears.
As of about 10 mins ago, when I get a SMS, I now get the yellow envelope and a second white envelope about 2 seconds later. The white envelope will only disappear when I press the Clear button in the Notifications bar.
I cannot figure out how to get rid of the second white notification envelope.
Edit: I have since realised that it is in fact a postcard icon.
I've noticed this feature too...it doesn't seem to clear the notification unless you drill right into the text message...ie click on the speech bubble.only then will it register as being read.bit annoying but can cope with it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Did you instal any 3rd party messaging clients? I have never seen the white envelope before

I can defo put up with this alright. By the way, you don't have to drill right down into the message. Just pressing the back button to exit out of the message is sufficient to clear down the yellow notification envelope
It is the second, the white notification icon, that is driving me mad. I can only get this to clear when I press the Clear button.
I just looked at it closer. The icon is actually a postcard.
