Something to flash or best kernel solely for battery? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This was ridiculous. I need something (maybe a ROM) that'll help me strictly for battery as I don't even use my phone that much throughout the day
I only got 4+ hours today.
The screenshots I'm going to post in a minute cause idk why tapatalk is being a retardation.

How about reducing screen brightness and 3G usage?

Use a custom kernel and undervolt it, this increases batterylife siginificantly.

I think your best choice would be cyanogenmod 10.1 with cm kernel and gps off , 2G activated ,screen automatic or low and governor set to powersave these should help you

I'm craving better battery life. Help!

Currently on stock ROM running the matrix kernel. I can't get more than 2.5hrs of screen on time which I think is pathetic. With my galaxy note 2 I can get 5-6hrs screen on time with same usage.
Any other kernel I should try to improve battery life? I see some people here getting over 4hrs screen on time and I don't see how it's possible on this phone.
Pretty good battery life with Franco kernel. What's your screen brightness and mind if you post a screenshot of your Battery in Settings?
Switch to the CM 10.1 nighties. Getting double what I did on stock, no joke.
Some of my recent battery stats can be found here.
Here are my fine tuned settings, been working on these for a while to get this thing to last haha. BTW: buy Faux123 prj app, its fantastic. Well here goes 486/1.13 on intellidemand, snake charmer on, mpdecision off, -100mv universal UV, CPU eco mode on, GPU at 400 on demand, io at fiops 2048.

Hmmm that's weird. Isn't it a pure stock ROM just like stock? Wonder why it's so much better.

Yep CM10 nightly is where its at. Running faux kernel. Check this out. This is with very heavy CPU usage as well.

did you disable any of the location settings in maps or google services/sync? those seems to destroy battery life.

Stock everything as far as CM goes. Location services running. No stability or other issues experienced yet, just a slew of other features I don't know how I went without.
Is it as fast as stock? I love how fast the phone is stock and wouldn't want to change that.

You should look at Franco kernel thread... 5-6 hours are no problem .
I use 100% brightness and have now 2h screen on time and 44% battery left.

so, youre saying that your device reached human body temp only twice? i guess you have never streamed anything nor ever played any cpu intensive games on your device. well, unless you live in a fridge or you are mistaking battery temperature for cpu temperature(they are different).

[DISCUSSION]Governors and Schelduers

Okay,so i made this thread so that development thread become less spammed with your questions.
Please, share your opinions here and ask questions, someone will answer you,and share your screenshots of battery life.
I personally use PegasusQ+VR,it gives great performance and good battery life.
My second choice would be Abyssplug+SIO,especcialy for the hotplug feature.
(In case you dont know what Hotplug is,its the feature that turns off the second core when your phone is not in use.)
I cant decide wich is better, tommorow ill test Hotplug+sio, and ill post screenshots of both tommorow.
Please,ask any questions here,dont spam Benz's threads.
Thank you

Hi, can you tell me the best combination of governors to use. I'm using latest cm
10.1 maclaw build with hotplug and noop, but i think CPU its not sleeping cause i loose about 5% battery in 2hours withought using my fone at all. Thanks
Sent from my GT-I8190 using xda app-developers app ?
Hotplug governor is indeed a joke, at least in Maclaw's CM (not surprised). There is no way to set it up for low battery drain /and/ reasonably smooth functionality. Right now I am using Ondemand + CFQ while playing with the powersave bias and up threshold parameters. The only thing I wish I had from Maclaw/Benz's kernel is the vr/sio schedulers.
You have VR and sio schelduer in Benz's kernel, and Abyssplug governor with real hotpulg feature, when you dont use the phone cpu shuts down one core and the remaining core runs on 200Mhz and 1% usage.
Sent from my GT-I8190 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would gladly use that kernel if it didn't have the dirty flickering fix. And if it didn't require CM10.1 reboot edition.
Also, when I was on CM i ran a logcat with hotplug activated. The second core would often reactivate even if the phone wasn't doing anything, with the screen turned off, then soon turn off and after a few seconds repeat the process. Maybe this phone really needs the core.
What flicketing fix? I got no flickering on the latest Maclaws cm and benzs kernel..and it shuts down the core, you can see with system monitor when your screen is on..dunno for screen off,but i get like 1% drained for a hour with screen off
Sent from my GT-I8190 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The 63 fps refresh rate, which "fixes" the UI flickering.
And yes, I saw the second core turning off myself. However, I am not sure if it keeps being off enough time.
Well in maclaws rom i dont have flickering, but in olivers i had. I dont know,i got decent battery life. Not good as stock, but its ok

And what exactly is so wrong with 63 fps refresh rate? Will your screen fry because of it? No it won't because it can't. Will your phone explode while being used? No it won't because it can't. What's the issue here then? Tell me.

Have you considered the battery drain implications? The battery is weak enough as it is, a higher than normal refresh rate only wastes more GPU power thus more battery.

Battery ?

I am on 4.4 with ak kernel. Default settings. 3g and Google now are on always. I m getting about 10 hours of battery with roughly two hours of screen on time. Is it good enough or can be better ?

There are a lot of factors that can affect the longevity of the phone's daily battery life. Apps that are constantly running in the background will drain your juice. Lowering down the brightness will lower the power consumption greatly. Disabling location services should help. If you're in an area with bad service, your phone will use more power to stay connected to the nearest tower. Tweak you kernel settings or try a different kernel can help.
for a fairly default installation with i would say 10 hours with 2 hours of screen time is normal.
But there are some good advices in this thread to optimize it a little more

CPU good governor and I/O schedulers

I've searched and searched and can't find a thread on this for our excellent devices!
So I'm going to start one !?

Fine i repeat u can use greenify and delete apps u dont use set ur cpu frequency lower if u turn off screen.
Theres also an app which can also save alot of battery. When screen is off ur data will be always on unless u deakivated it. So it enables every 15min or whatever time u set ur data to get notifications etc. So that save battery. Performance is controlled by governor.
It is only up to you whether u need lag free scolling or more battery.
